NEW BLOG IS UP!

Brevardcane

Coaching talent is another factor. I'm not sure how many of our coaches have coached a game that big?

dj moonbat

We ALL knew that going into the game but most thought that Miami COULD win the game. The only question left is: "Why didn't they?"

Posted by: SOUP | November 04, 2013 at 08:26 AM

Well, although FSU came out a little flat, they didn't stay that way. Miami needed a couple of defensive plays that would hurt FSU badly enough to keep the 'Noles out of rhythm, and never got them. (Or, actually, the two interceptions would have been those plays except that Miami NEEDED those plays to make up for the fact that otherwise FSU was driving at will.)

The more talented team almost has to screw up. They did, but no worse than Miami did. So really, there's no question left. The better team won, because they didn't screw up (Miami didn't force them to screw up) enough to lose.

SOUP

If U begin to accept the fact that it is a "given" that teams of lesser talent can never beat teams of teams of greater talent then why even play the games?

U can't say all week long BEFORE the game: "Hey anything can happen, that's why they play the games. They (the media) is acting like Miami shouldn't even show up!"

And then say AFTER the game: "Well FSU has better talent so that's why Miami lost."

We ALL knew that going into the game but most thought that Miami COULD win the game. The only question left is: "Why didn't they?"

SOUP

Here's the thing I don't get:

1. Let's all accept and acknowledge that FSU has currently accumulated better talent accross the board than Miami.

2. Teams of lesser talent beat teams with greater talent every week in college football.

3. Why couldn't or didn't Miami beat FSU?

SOUP

GO CANES, BEAT VT!

NativeCane

Tap, tap, tap, is this thing on?

Had a great time tailgating with Soup, Old Skool, and TSully! saturday, then the game with Zilla and his bro, OGV, And Anastasia!
OGV gets the hard core fan award in my opinion. He brings the same loud enthusiasm when youre ahead as when you are 30 pts down, stays to the bitter end, and irritates the schnit out of opposing fans! LOL
It was apparent like Golden has been saying forever we aint there yet but we are making progress. We simply lost to a better team saturday but our day is coming!

DEM CANES!!!

I begged Um to recruit TY. but they told me they already had TB#3 coming so they did not want to duplicate talent....

I'm going to miss watching Duke run the rest of the season. He just glides and is so elusive. Great stiff arm, too.

With Coley getting open deep multiple times vs the Noles, just think what PD could have done to em. With time, a healed-is SM17 ankle, a healthy-ish PD, and enough things to correct/work for the repeat, the ACCCG will be closer than 27pts.

Ohio_Cane

Now we just need to win out, and we should, even without Duke. He will be missed, though

Terrance Sullivan

If someone needs a ticket to the Virginia Tech game Saturday seat next to me. Section 130 Row 23 Seat 2 I am asking for 40 dollars. That seat is a 65 dollar ticket for this game. Go Canes.

mi@mic@ne

In this game we compounded the problems by not being successful when they adjusted to us. I saw our offense push them around in the touchdown drive. But of course the next series we saw their safety making tackles the line of scrimmage. What happens when they are playing us tight and bringing their backs for run support? Instead of throwing the short passes we should have been throwing the intermediate and long passes. They had to bring their backs up or we would have controlled the game.

I saw our receivers with one or two steps on their backs.. We just did not connect with those passes. Back in the day we would have been licking our chops at the chance to open the passing game up. How things have changed.

Terrance Sullivan

Number 11 in the BCS. I will take it. Go Canes! Beat VT!

Not bad

VA Cane

I want to play hard and hit people with authority but bounty talk goes too far. I coach and teach my guys to be aggressive but never dirty or outside the rules.

Sarasota 'cane

Looks like Sileo may have Tweeted himself out of another job. What a moron!
He offered a $1000.00 bounty for any cane player who takes out Freeman if UM and FSU meet in the ACCCG. A bunch of FSU player families read it and now it's viral. His program director at his second rate sports channel has had to apologize and said he would investigate. Doesn't look good for Dan.

VA Cane

Canesteeler glad the young men got home ok. If last night was not bad enough your steelers and my raiders both are horrible. Hey at least the U is 7-1. Damn our pro teams are bad LOL!!!!!

BEERicane

His name is D?No!

The Herb says it's time to be realist.
1.Our defense is loaded with guys that have played a lot of football. Think about it, Gaines, Highsmith, Rodgers, Chicklo, Robinson, Porter, Pierre, Green, Renfro, Armbrister, Cain, Perryman, these guys are not greenhorns but what it does say is that somewhere the scouting combines and star makers got it right on most of these guys. That group measures out to 3 stars and average don't get it when you play teams that have elite talent. You would think that a team that lost 11 guys to the draft and started a RS Freshman QB wouldn't be that good but what it does tell me is that they have talent stock piled the way we used too! Ain't really no use in complaining when it comes down to it, you have to play the hand we dealt ourselves and as Dandy Shannon once said "We can't get anybody off the waiver wire to help us. If we take care of our problems in recruiting, we wouldn't be in this situation but we've had to beg and scrap just to get a DT to come here and basically take cast offs and flip guys who were headed to 2ND rate schools.
We need serious help on the DL, LB, Wr & a bigger RB. We are all excited that Yearby is coming along with Powell but they too are light weights. Unless we are going to switch over and join the ranks of the Spread option teams, then we need to get us a big bruiser RB. FSU is a good team, that lost 3/4 of their coaching staff and are still steam rolling along and would they beat Bama, No, Saban is the man when it comes to stopping a team, especially giving him a month to prepare.
Does Deno have to go, that answer is now clear, to The Herb, yes he does. Playing passive just to hold teams to FG's is Puss ball. The bend but don't break, especially with a veteran defensive unit, is pure powder puff football. No guts no glory. Those guys we have in the secondary, especially those sophs, are going to remember the toasting their getting because our pass rush suks. No Man is an island unless you play in DENO's defensive scheme.

CGNC that was 2005. I was there in the Georgias Dome completely pissed off with another 25,000 Canes fans! 2003 was our last great year going 11-2 winning the Big East and the Orange Bowl against FSU 16-14. 2004 We beat the Florida Crocs in the Peach Bowl and finished 9-3. Mad Props to Native Cane, Soup, and Old Skool U guys rock. It was cool hanging with Zilla at the game. and the rest of the CanesFam. Our Goals are still attainable winning the ACC Coastal, Winning a Bowl Game if I had to guess now the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on New Years Eve in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome, and to win 10 plus games. something we havent done since 2003. Go Canes. Hate to hear that about Randy Duke Johnson. Wishing that young man a healthy recovery. Allen Hurns did step up and play really well. Gonna need the recievers and running backs to step up in the place of Duke and Dorsett.

CGNC, Williams played that game and did good

VfB_Cane

This NFL week shows all the troubles we've had these past years: Lamar Miller had 105 yards rushing on Thursday, today Mike James has 140 after three quarters.
One might think our rushing attack 2 or 3 years ago must have been unstopable. However, as we all know, it was mediocre at best.
So, on top of not having great talent across the board, we also failed to get the maximum out of the playmakers on our roster.
I hope that Golden & Co. will get this thing turned around so we won't sit here on a Sunday three years from today wondering how we never won a conference title with all those future pros on our team.

CGNC

Beer, now we on the same page. EVERY job should be on the line, coaches included too!

BEERicane

Point taken WWiN.

I'd agree that an in game switcher-oo is appropriate if Morris doesn't play up to snuff. That should be applicable to any and all positions/players in any team sport.

WWIN

Mountain, they actually are. Williams should play due to the reasons you stated in your second paragraph.

Let me make this clear, last year I was saying DO NOT put Williams in the game, he was horrible. This year the table has turned, one off-season can make a huge difference.

I'm not saying lets make Williams our starting qb, I'm saying if Morris starts doing what he does against va tech, lets give Williams a CHANCE. And if Williams can't get the job done put Morris back in, if he does get the job done then you open up your qb competition after the game. That's FAIR as it gets. Then you want look dumb as a coach for not at least trying something else and you don't have to worry about people talking about playing the back-up anymore.

Beer, you are correct, Morris did play good the first half I'll even go as far as saying his best half of his career considering it was against a good defense. But, he's played 6 bad GAMES vs 1 good HALF.

Canesteeler

I think at some point if Morris continues to struggle you have to give Williams a shot. VT is going to load the box and blitz the shit out of us. Finally I can relax, my son and his friends arrived home safely from Tally.

BEERicane

WWiN,

I think Morris played pretty OK last night. A few second half mistakes, to be sure. But losing duke and throwing in a new QB against a good D would be too much for Williams to handle. We would lose that game. This is Morris' team and gives us the best chance to win vs the Turkeys.

mountain cane

No Willie, they aren't. The favorite guy in town is always the back-up qb. I know you and many others here love Williams. I find him very unathletic and don't think he will be the qb next year.

I think Morris gives us the best chance to win now, which is what matters when 7-1.

WWIN

No way you change qbs at this point. You ride him to the end.

Morris is not a good reader of defenses or decision maker. Not sure how much of his current throwing slump is ankle related or other. The underthrow of wide open Coley was appalling.

Posted by: mountain cane | November 03, 2013 at 05:31 PM

Aren't those two paragraphs a contradiction of each other??? LMHO

WWIN

Beer, you been drinking too much of yo name. LOL

No way in hell playing Williams would make our situation any worse than what it is. It sends the message to Morris and all our qb's that that kind of play is unacceptable. It gives Williams experience for next year.

Stop trying to force a key into a keyhole that it doesn't fit in

BEERicane

"Inside sources" don't know crap. These are the same ones who said the defensive game plan would be different for FSU. Same for the offense. The only thing inside about that "info" is inside the realm of fantasy.

mountain cane

No way you change qbs at this point. You ride him to the end.

Morris is not a good reader of defenses or decision maker. Not sure how much of his current throwing slump is ankle related or other. The underthrow of wide open Coley was appalling.

VT has a good defense, as usual. They will stop the run and force Morris to beat them Logan Thomas is also an erratic qb who can't read defenses. We need to pressure him into errors or this could end badly.

We open as 6 point favorites.

Clwtrdan

FSU could conceivably play for a national championship. Alabama has LSU next week plus at Miss State and at Auburn and Oregon is at Stanford next week. That was a very good team that beat us last night and they play nobody else any good except a depleted Florida in G-ville the last game of the regular season. We could really be a spoiler for them if we can win out. But we would have to step up big in the ACC game. We may get to see Walter Tucker, The Bus, or even Corn Elder before the year is through. Otherwise it's Crawford and Clements. Eduardo will definitely get a lot more plays. Next man up.....

Forgot (or wanted to forget) walford last night. we finally get a game where we throw to the TE and he's got no hands at all play after play.

I've christened him "Mr Bobbles". Although I suspect after last night we won"t be throwing many more hiss way. Time for another one of the TE's on the roster to step up.

WWIN

Only way he sees the field is if Morris can't go. We beat VT, we win the coastal.

Morris hasn't been a go all year! LOL

Did you not hear when Soup said multiple inside sources said Williams is better than Morris???

jsy

Unless golden recruits to the point that we have first round talent at every position on defense we will never be elite with dno here. But this is typical golden. His mentality is reactive and not proactive. instead of cutting ties with dno snd his zone hes going to wait until the negativity from fans and boosters becomes so bad he has no choice to get rid of him instead of going out there and makinf changes. i say let barrow call plays he cant possible be worse than Dno. This is easily seen in the make up of the team we always wait to be punched in the face and then adjust instead of coming out swinging. When he said we need to take it to the fourth quarter I knew we lost. The only way a huge underdog wins is going all In with nothing to lose. A three td dog on the road does not win by playing soft hoping the other team messes up. We need to force the action. We play scared and that is goldens biggest flaw. Losing the game doesn't bother me bc there is no shane losing to something better than u, what pisses me off is the fact that fsu is looking forward to playing us again. We need the mentality that even if we lose we give them such hell that their will to play us is gone.

roachcane77

P.S. Somebody already said it… Coley is a great recruiter… KEEP HIM. But if Jedd Fisch becomes available… GET HIM BACK!

roachcane77

Everyone STOP the NEW DC talk… AG would not get rid of D'No even if Saban himself decided to step down as Alabama's head coach to come coach our D.

College roommate, best man in his wedding… AG's defended him EVERYTIME he's been questioned about him… EVERYTIME!

Not happening, never, nada, get over it… as long as AG is here… No'D is here. PERIOD.

(Sorry to say… )

Canesteeler

I realize both football teams I have passion for have terrible pass rushes. The D lines for the Steelers and Canes rush the QB as if getting sacks are illegal.

Montreal-Cane

Calling Dalvin Cook...We need you next year and you will see the field a lot in 2014. Muschamp is a born loser and we saw it again yesterday on National TV. Canes will win the NC in 2015 and give FSU a correction after two recruiting class cleared of the NCAA cloud....

VA Cane

WWIN,

I always defer to other teams. I try to point out their strengths, their key players, their tendencies and tell my guys that we have to play our game; we know what their game is, we go with our plan to execute our game, and our plan to disrupt their plan.

Last night my opponent wanted to line up wide and throw....they lined up 5 a lot, and we manned the heck out of them, soon they had to keep a back in so I had 4 in man the rest going after people. We disrupted the game plan of a pretty decent team.....in my book they are all good else they would not be here. We don't talk or comment we just bring it with all we have.

Montreal-Cane

Agree. VT is the most important game of the season...

May be we will see how good is Walter Tucker.
I don't trust Gus the Bus "yet".

BEERicane

Next week will show how far we've come and how good a leader Golden is. If these guys put that embarrassing loss behind em and show up for VT, this team had come a long way in the maturity department.

BEERicane

No way Williams plays. Why would he play when we have a must-win vs VT? Only way he sees the field is if Morris can't go. We beat VT, we win the coastal.

PHUCK! Bud Foster!

Didn't McGahee run through that HIGHSCHOOL! ass defense for 6 TDs! LMAO!

If anything, I'd rather have the Oregon DC, now that's an attacking 3-4 right there!

VA Cane

I know he is good.....and he played at Memphis. Hes not green and I think it would be worth trying, just to have a different look. Not saying bench Morris, but is it obvious he is hurt still (not an excuse)his accuracy and judgment are not on this year, and you got to have great play form QB.

I know Foster a little...when a couple guys I played with father died, we went down to a little club in Radford....they had a raffle, couple VT guys there....and Bud was there. He was nice...likes women and beer....has a rep in Bburg as a ladies man....hes married but not my call to judge him. I think with what is going on in Bburg, he will not get HC job.....but could coach D anywhere in CFB. I would take him, he is very good. Beamers son set to become HC in a couple or sooner....Foster getting squeezed even though he has been loyal.....and responsible for a lot of Beamers success.

TGU_CANE

"Killing me softly with this zone, killing me softly..." song by D'No dedicated to us.

jsy

In the past if I remember correctly when the West Virginia and Clemson hc spots were available he was interested but passed over. I mean everybody talks about Saban and his defense, I'm of the mindset that fosters get up field attacking style is better he never had the horses that Saban had. If we could somehow get him here we would once again have opposing offenses fear us. I hate how teams don't fear us anymore and that's bc of our soft purée defense.

WWIN

VA, playing Williams can't be any worse lol. I actually think that Golden is not playing Williams because he wants to give the qb job to Olsen or Kaaya for the next 3-4yrs. But he's gon have a problem with Olsen if Kaaya gets it or he'll have a problem with Kaaya if he doesn't wanna red shirt.

TJL

Would love for Bud Foster to get fired at VT-get rid of the BFF Dno and hire Bud!

Sarasota 'cane

Posted by: jsy | November 03, 2013 at 03:07 PM

That would be a dream scenario, but it would seem that Bud Foster is ready to coach his own team at this point.

jsy

My Christmas year this year is for vt to fall apart and bud foster be let go and becomes our dc. It's just wishful thinking but he would be the ideal man to run our defense. It would be a win win for everyone bc imagine the defense he would field with our athletes. He would dominate on defense with our players and after two - three years could become a hc somewhere. I always respected that man and feel he doesn't get the credit he deserves. I never thought this point last year Jed would be gone and replaced with coley so u never know but it's just wishful thinking at this point. It just seems like the perfect marriage because in all of college football the only defense constantly plays defense like we used to is vt.

Montreal-Cane

Not enough mad players on the Canes...Kehoe`s group of Lazy tall choir boys got me sick yesterday especially after the whistle when Duke was crushed by FSU mad men with the result of a broken ankle...I hope his right knee is ok by the way...look at the replay...

We love you Al Golden but after the season you need to make major changes on your coaching staff and go get the very best DC and defensive back coach...Also if Jedd Fisch gets fired...Please take him back...Our OC may be a good recruiter but his play calling is so predictable. No Wonder Jimbo never wanted him to call plays at FSU...

Jimbo is just a great Coach. FSU lost so many players to the NFL after last season plus he has almost an entire new coaching staff...With him it's no excuse and we reload...

Enough for the negative.

Now can we have the running game going next week with Crawford if healthy...Clements, Walter Tucker or Gus the Bus...May be big Mo on 3rd and short and goal line situations...

Sandland deserves to start over Walford who played like s...last night...

Finally can we recruit the 2 fastest pass rushers in the country pleassssssse...

VA Cane

Not down on Morris, but Willie, perhaps its time to get Williams in for some action.....hell it might help Morris see things differently, and get the kid some reps....in real game situations. I know you have called for this, and I do not think it would hurt. Change things up a little...run some no huddle hurry up run the ball and let Williams gun a few....he is healthy and not totally green. I have done it in the past with some crazy success and without people hanging their heads and getting down. JMO

VA Cane

Good points all of you. I felt like FSU put in a great game plan, executed it and....Coaches and players really believed in it....they were confident sure and played with abandon while executing it. We looked ok at times...some decent runs...2 nice TDs....but we looked hesitant. We looked like we were not sure we could run it....we looked like we were fearful of Man Cov, of stepping up to the line as a LB on 3rd and blasting a back or blocker, or thinking we could convert on 3rd. FSU to me KNEW they could do what they planned and did it....with passion and confidence.

That's part of having a deep, strong, well coached and well developed team that believes in the plan and the coaching. Takes time....again my charges are 13, but last night they executed flawlessly.....I mean they do what I ask them to with confidence....and whatever I call, right or wrong they execute with heart and effort...in short they believe in me....and I know how good they are and really believe in them.

We must have a great plan, all must be in.....and go out there and let it rip....theres no backing off or holding back. JMO

WWIN

Also, this is the second player Coley has gotten hurt with dumb play calling, see the play that got Dorsett hurt.

WWIN

Positives....

Our WR's got open all night, especially Stacey Coley. He's going to be our difference maker.

VA Cane

Greg Olsen J Graham both catch TDS......how is it we have great TEs in the pros, yet we have not gotten into using them as we used to. It is a great weapon; I had 6 catches by my TEs last night. They block a lot but they get open for me. I like going north south.....quick screens going forward are just like a run....and another thing we do not do often is get the run game going.....hit some passes to TEs or crossing...run a screen....then cross them up with a quick draw play. We I still do it; give my FULLBACK a chance to run....we do still have a fullback....why not use him in more ways? JMO

VA Cane - you are on a roll with your posting! Very insightful and accurate.

Canesteeler - I agree with you.

Canesteeler, like Coke said, Coley and D'no fall on Golden, those are his guys. Also Morris falls on him too.

CoCane

Yeah Canesteeler. I agree. Coley & No'D are in over their heads. But if Golden doesn't see it, so is he. This coaching staff is good for 8-10 win seasons conistantly but not championships. Jmo
