Up North get your act together! New Blog!

Where is UMike? Miss is one stop info. centre.

VA Cane

Thanks CS enjoyed your memories of ST26. You always add a touch of class to the blog and to my day. Hope you are well, know you are loving your hockey along with CGNC you guys rule when it comes to hockey. I have a home game about 2 miles from home again, I like being close. We are prepared and know this team is master of upsets; we have not underestimated them at all.

I just listened to Saban on gameday. Like him or not is ones choice, but his ideas, his philosophy for preparing, training, focus, team work, his respect for his players is unreal. No wonder he is a winner; he is as good as it gets. JMO Se you guys later we gonna win one for the CS!!!!

VA Cane good luck today

BEERicane

Get Well D |_| KE sign in Tuscaloosa today. That was great to see

BEERicane

Apparently, Miami fans are back to not caring about basketball. A flash in the pan. I've been a huge fan/follower of the BBall team for some time now and I can tell you that was probably the single most embarrassing on court performance of the past 15-20 years. I've spent a lot of time and money on that program to be fine with that garbage. Unless you've actually been going to all the home games for the past 10 years rather than picking up the remote when they were in a good run, you can shut it.

BEERicane

360,

Please scold Ohio as well. Apparently you are OK with the defending ACC champs losing at home to NoName St community college.

VA Cane

I do not want to be Stanford or Bama or anyone else...if I did I would pull for them. As a coach I like the way they execute fundamentals in the run game, on the lines, move to the pass and play physical. Miami at one time did that; to be elite you got to get back there I know that as fact.

I am pleased with the season, we have done well so far. Got to focus today on VT. Run the ball, get TEs involved, take some shots, protect Morris, run some draws and quick screens. On D tackle and pressure, cover tight man I hope but doubt. No Tos, no stupid penalties....and STFU no yapping....we win.

I never fret over UM games, I want us to win but I have no control. I do have control of my guys; we play at 1:00 so I am rolling out. This is my focus winning today to advance to the conference game next week. We play a good team today, a sleeper all year. Beat several temas by surprise...How? Basic fundamental football. They have discipline, execute not fancy not super fast....but never make mistakes and have beat 3 teams you would never guess they could. I knew they could. We are prepared and very ready to go. I will be back later have a great day.

Ohio_Cane

Where is OGV with his Coach L hype? What a way to start the season...

360Cane

Basketball season underway as we take the court as the defending ACC Champs. We are struggling vs no-name NY school for the blind. This year we are ACC CHUMPS.

Quick question. When is the last time UM lost it's season opener?

Coach L earned that extension.

Misery loves company. Is that why you are here?

CGNC

Foster is going to dial it up and pressure momo, so the Oline needs to protect and momo needs to throw it away when necessary.

TonyCane

I think if Butch Davis has been hired instead of Golden - with the same staff from 1995 - we would be almost in the same position today.

I'm looking forward to Eduardo seeing more action tonight. I've always liked that kid. Would love to see him find the endzone tonight. And get Rashawn on the field (or medical RS)?

Lawd Have Mercy our BBall team lost to St. Francis of New York in the Home Opener. Not a good way to start off the Homecoming weekend. Hope our Canes take care of VT tomorrow.

It's official. Coach L is the first hurricanes coach to lose the season opener in 2 decades. No excuse for that. It's going to be a looooong season. Recruiting will be a uphill battle.

BIG TIME! players, make BIG TIME! plays, in BIG TIME! games BABY!:

Led by senior BRANDON POWELL'S 133 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 17 carries and a stellar effort by the defense, the Bucks earned their first victory over St. Thomas since 2007.

Moments later, POWELL broke loose on a sweep down the sideline for a 50-yard touchdown.

POWELL also broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run late in the first half when the heaviest rains were falling to cut Aquinas’ lead to 7-6. Deerfield failed to convert the extra point as its holder mishandled the snap, but Powell said the score gave the team confidence.

Soup, like you said a couple of weeks ago, I'm tired of stressing over games, I wanna sit back take my seat belt off and enjoy the ride but I can't cuz we hit too bumps. I love Golden but what we did against average teams this year is inexcusable. But he did have a good game plan vs fsu where the players didn't execute. On the flip side, I still believe in him but its somethings that he needs to work on.

Sorry if I offended anybody

Note to Coley:

Play calls need to be aggressive tomorrow, particularly with the short to mid range passes. We need to exploit their speed in coverage. I really think Miami has receivers that are a lot faster than VT's DB's. Their linebackers are good and they have some really good dt's but overall we have a better team.

Game will come down to line of scrimmage and the ability for our QB to manage the game. We cause turnovers and maintain ball control we will WIN. Good luck to the canes and I will be watching the game sippin on my Hen/sweet tea combo. I think Gus should play second reps and give eduardo the 3rd spot. Gus seems to be a lot quicker and has that IT factor when I have seem him in games.

WWIN

I don't think it's making excuses to say UM's not good enough, and that there are reasons that they aren't good enough, and that we expect these reasons to remain with us for a while.

If the problems with the 'Canes were, in fact, easy to fix, then the relentless culture of blame would be more understandable. But they aren't.

I keep seeing signs that UM is getting better than it's been recently. And I don't see many signs that the people running the show are idiots, or otherwise blinded to the truth that seems so obvious to those of us giving directions on the Internetz. As long as those conditions remain true, I've got no reason to complain.

WWIN

CGNC, you can't teach em to play soft for two years then expect em to play aggressive after that. That's like feeding a lion cub and then expecting them to go out and hunt after two years of being hand fed

SOUP

The Miami Hurricanes played in the 2nd indoor collegiate football games in history. On November 8th, 1930, the Canes played the Temple Owls in the Atlantic City Auditorium.

"The hectic road trip began against Temple University of Philadelphia and ws played in the auditorium at Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was UM's first intersectional game and was only the second college football contest played indoors.

One account says an estimated three million square feet of Pennsylvania black dirt was brought to the Atlantic City Auditorium to make the grassless field. But Bill Kimbrough, center on the team, recalls that, "They had held a hockey game in the auditorium the night before and put this reddish brown substance-clay or whatever it was-over the frozen surface, I suppose. Anyway, it was as hard a rock."

The UM players carried coconuts to the game and presented them to the Temple players. Temple, in return, handed the Hurricanes a 34-0 defeat."

PREACH!

THE MAN

I'm not saying by like those teams (Stan and Ala), but something can be said how they approach games. Watching them I don't seem them turning the ball over much because most of it is they are steady eddie marching down the field. Miami's problem is they are in 3rd and long too much and it makes them try and force something that isn't there. I'm not saying be like a Big 10 team, but sh!t I'd rather have consistent sustaining drives and take shots every now and then, then go 3 and out A LOT or have a turnover. All this in turn puts added pressure on the defense which in itself has there own issue. They are opposite, they are too conservative...

CaneRock

SMDH! and LMAO! at wanting to be like Stanford.

Nobody wanted to be like Stanford when they lost to Utah, huh?...yeah, I thought so.

VA Cane

Agreed brother, we are a good team and its been much better this year. We are about where we belong somewhere in that top 11-25, perhaps nearer the up-per echelon. I think the recruiting is much better, will be even better and the staff will with the talent be able to develop a deeper, stronger more talented team. They will see that these kids can and will develop better skills, be able to line up and compete.....and be very aggressive.

j.w.

Agreed, Va. We are still in the building phase, and are ahead of schedule in some areas, but we were 7-5 and 6-6 the past two years for a reason (or reasons). We're a good "team" because we play as a team, but we're not going to dominate like we did in the 80's without more stars. Give it time and enjoy the ride.

VA Cane

Nice guys as in people. Yet Bill Russell was not a nice guy on the court, he was hard. tony is a nice guy but he still got teams to be aggressive. You got to be aggressive in this game. We may develop that over time don't know. Even the teams with the SWAG I call it being a loudmouth...Irvin Sapp,Thomas....great players but hated their mouths....they were tough as shit.....Irvin was a physical go get them guy....we need to ramp it up a notch....I do not want to be a finess team...I want to be a tough fundamental smart finess team....

Yeah Stanford has a 220 RB, they can use when they need a yd or 2, and instead of us using Hagens at 250 we use Duke who is maybe a 190 soaking wet or Crawford who is maybe 195. That extra beef should be worth one stinking yd. or it was for Stanford.

Texascane

I can just see this thread if Miami put 8 6'6" 270-290 pound white guys on the line of scrimmage like Stanford and ran the lead power from the I formation 40 times a game. I guess we could move to the Big 10.

j.w.

I don't see any evidence that Golden lacks the killer instinct. We aren't blowing out ACC opponents because we're frankly not good enough to do it every week. Just because you have the front-line talent doesn't mean you have the depth, and any team starting Cornelius, Gaines and Highsmith lacks depth. 7-1. Top 11 in the BCS. We aren't top 3 material right now, we have tons of flaws, but we're winning.

The Dude

Posted by: THE MAN | November 08, 2013 at 12:33 PM

I totally agree with one caveat, Stephen Morris is the reason we cant sustain drives. He is far too inaccurate and doesn't execute plays within the context of the game. For instance, his turnovers in the redzone are killers.

The Dude

Posted by: 360Cane | November 08, 2013 at 12:41 PM

The D played well, but the O never finished it and put the nail in the coffin.

^^^

some fire not done fire.

360Cane

I don't know man. We sure did have done fire against UF. Gang tackling and all. But that's the only time I've seen it all year. :-(

The Dude

Golden will get us there in the next few years, remember folks, we didn't go get an elite coach, we got a project coach that has high upside, but is still learning on the job. For instance, Gus not being our short yardage back is almost unforgivable at this point. While Gus is only a freshman, he can contribute much more. Please don't counter with "Well, Gus is only a freshman and he isn't ready." Then get him ready! Al is a football coach, that's what you do is get guys ready. That being said, the player development on this team is better than anything we've seen since Butch Davis.

I anticipate a lot of guys coming back and actually feel we could be better next year. If we had any kind of consistency at QB, tomorrows outcome would never be in doubt. That's on 3 people, Golden 1, Coley 2 and Stephen Morris 3. This team has not played to its potential this year. We've yet to see a complete effort or see Miami truly step on someone's throat. But I don't think that's because Al Golden lacks a killer instinct, but that Al Golden hasn't gotten the most out of his players. There is another level of coaching that Al needs to get to.

I've said in the past, Golden could be as good as Pete Carroll one day. I think they are similar in a lot of ways. We all just have to wait it out because I don't think he's going anywhere soon.

TGU_Cane

I'm gonna say it before the game.
"Fire D'NO. Bench #17."

THE MAN

Last nights Oregon/Stanford game was a perfect example that you need a strong running game and good defense to make any noise. Stanford were sustaining drives all night and played good sound defense. That gimicky offense that Oregon runs looks good when it's rolling, but looks really bad when it doesn't work. They are off the field in 1 min. Miami needs to learn from this and sustain drives and keep the O on the field with short to intermediate passes on 1st and 2nd down with runs mixed in to stay away from the awful 3rd and long that they are accustomed too. Play hard nosed D with man and safeties eyeing the run and lower the boom on rb's. Miami's coordinators are way over thinking everything right now. IMO they need to get back to the basics and let the athletes handle themselves on the field...

360Cane

Yea, it also made me raise an eyebrow when Golden was so concerned about running the score up on SS. That he even went as far as to talk to the other HC about shortening the game because he's "been there before with Temple."

Nice guys can win 'ships too though, right?

VA Cane

We've had the talent advantage every game this year except for the fsu game, so talent is not a excuse. Golden is too nice, no killa instinct, bottom line.

Posted by: Willie Will in Nashville | November 08, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Willie you understand perfectly. I never want to be dirty cheap or loudmouthed...35 years coaching I never tolerate that stuff.....but I do want to destroy you on the field....beat you up physically, wear you out, frustrate you, make you quit....and do those things it gets into your psyche....in your mind you know you are beat and that you are afraid to get punished.

This is not a nice game; you have to really go after people. If you hit them over and over, clean, hard and by the rules...I emphasize that....and someone gets hurt....you are not at fault nor should you be sorry. You did your job. That's the world that's life. We have to find a way to develop that killer instinct its developed taught and coached. It assignment football, executed in a simple form in a highly aggressive manner. Its not dirty at all....its hard clean and non stop. JMO

WWIN

What happened with recruiting since the fsu game? I guess they liked fsu cuz I haven't heard anything since the game????
