In the last two seasons, Al Golden's Canes are 1-5 against ranked teams, outscored 82-219 in those games.

Posted by: Montreal-Cane | December 29, 2013 at 07:08 PM

And the ranked opponent we beat went on to go 4-8.

The Dude

My guess is Golden makes no changes. Has a 7 or 8 win season next year and the year after. Miami doesn't care. D'Onofrio isn't going anywhere. Get used to 500 yards of offense folks. Golden doesn't care about winning. He cares about himself and his BFF.

The Dude

And Miami won't buy him out.

VA Cane

Preparation for Situations and Execution of Fundamentals. A good coach knows and continually learns countless situations and prepares his players for them by teaching the execution of the fundamentals the situation requires at the time. I just do not see where we are doing that; Hey all I know it has been highly successful for me for as long as I can remember. We must take an approach that results in winning; this plan does that. JMO

Sarasota 'cane

The canes and Dolphins can blow me! Football in South Florida is a disgrace.

Sarasota 'cane

And can we stop with the Shannon/Golden comparisons? It's like comparing horse shyt and dog shyt. They both stink.

VA Cane

Al will not get fired, nor will he get the TX PSU jobs.....he is a good man, but he is not qualified for either of those jobs. He will be here and like it or not we have to pull for him to do well. Not that change is bad, you know my opinion of that. I know you cannot win consistently at any level without Preparation for Situations and Execution of Fundamentals; simply put we do not do this very well regularly. JMO

"At least the "Negative Nancies" are diverse in their critique.

Posted by: CaneRock | December 29, 2013 at 07:02 PM"

Well to be fair, they're playing with an uneven field tilted in their favor, since the staff always leaves open sooooo very many valid avenues of critique each year.

On the other hand, nobody is forcing the apologists to continue with their line of reasoning either so it's a made their own bed.

"Posted by: VfB_Cane | December 29, 2013 at 07:08 PM"

Disagree 100%. It's the only interesting thing about this year IMO.

Recruiting, basketball and baseball are all on the table anytime you want to pick them up in the meantime.

We can title the blog "5 Nice Things About Al Golden That Penn State Should Consider When Making Their Next Hire." I know the title is lengthy. Its a work in progress.

Yeah, considering how many times I've read about the last Athletic bowl with the 50 degree weather over the five years since then, last night is going to be played in the blogosphere for at least three times as long.

If UM played 'horrible' that night against Wisconsin and were trying the onside kick with the momentum to steal a win with a few minutes left, last night was whatever horrible is mixed with a triple helping of Alverage Slogan.

So, instant death, basically. Unless you like your rousing games of post game loss presser BINGO more than seeing Miami play football at a championship level or even a competent one.

I say fire the Equipment Manager because our player are always slippin' and fallin'

I'm all for it when it's a fact-based discussion. But posts like "The pessimists always say ..." and "The optimists never acknowledge ..." are boring as hell.

Has soup even posted. I'm cooled off . Something has to change. Do I believe In coach golden . He looks the part. .He can talk a good game but progress is what we are basing everything off of he is somewhat at a slightly b- . Even with the ncaa at hand . Even with major recruits being swayed away. This Year Would Have Been Much Better Having Us Just Lost To The ville And Not Being Blown out . Idk. I'm taking this is as positive as possible. And trust me it's hard. If every body is getting graded. I see that the TE coach from usf is gone. RB coach is gone, wasn't a good hire anyway. All but the db coach is gone from the defensive staff. 9-4.. I'm just hoping we don't have 2010 year like under Shannon his last year. Cause that's what this is a clear reminder to me. What do you all think

Dude- Chud asked for his meeting with the Browns to happen tonight rather than tomorrow. He's hanging on, for the next couple of hours anyway.

BEERicane

Face reality Canes fans. The U is dead and will never be back under Al a Golden. Last night was his absolute best effort of a coaching job. It had to be given the previous 2 bowl bans (and ACCCG ban) and all of the kids who had to lose out on post season opportunities because of it. Golden had to have wanted this game probably more than any other game in his career. And look what happened. He got our asses kicked. He should go for one of two reasons:
A. This was the extent of his coaching ability and it leaves pretty much everything to be desired. We shouldn't put up with that. He should be fired
Or
B. After those bowl bans he, in fact, did not prepare the team to the best of his ability and disappointed an entire fan base and embarrassed the institution as a whole with his half assed attempt this year. For this he should be fired.

One of those two must be true, but the bottom line is he should be fired. Time to hold him accountable for his failures.

No, nothing from Soup, I suspect he's smarter than the rest of us and is cooling off for as long as it takes before he speaks his mind.
The results speak for themselves at some point, it's kind of like a parent who watches his kid screw up over and over again and loves her enough to let her know she isn't getting it done. That's where a lot of us are right now. Speaking our displeasure doesn't mean we don't love UM, but just like I would demand that my daughter does something different to avoid the same mistakes, I need to see something change from UM. Just like I wouldn't stop loving my kid if she doesn't listen, I won't stop following UM, but forget the unbridled enthusiasm if I don't see something new.

make no mistake, we were out coached big time last night.

regardless of how many freshman we get for next year or the years to come unless that fact changes we will still not win big games.

I can understand your point even if I don't feel the same, just got to skim and scroll if that's the way you feel. Like I said, recruiting, basketball, baseball, all on the table anytime you want to pick them up and run with them.

Well said. I'll tell you right now, 86 called me as I was getting to my car and unprovoked asked me if I had seen anything worse than that ever in my life. He's not a happy graduate of the University of Miami today. Trust me. So he probably had one heck of a party to try and get some good time out of the crushing failure of Saturday's game to provide anything resembling such.

Or, alternatively, we could all be blogging on borrowed time and not even realize it yet . . . :(

Football in south Florida is the best in the nation - at the high school level.

Everyone lives in the past with that Ed Reed Speech (though it was GREAT), please quit making references to the 80s, 90s and the barely in the 00s. That ship has sailed. Our new dingy has sunk. We all ache to be relevant again, but conjuring up those distant memories does not make us relevant. It is akin to the ex-high school athlete who is a loser as an adult recalling his glory days. That is precisely the existence of the hurricane fans. Stop living in those glory days. They are embarrassing today given the sad state of affairs in coral gables. It is an insult to those teams, players and coaches of yesteryear.

SOUP

And finally, SOUP, YOU'RE THE MAN! Please don't forget that. And while this "Space" may seem dark and negative right now, it's STILL the greatest U BLOG in the world!

Posted by: laquinton | December 29, 2013 at 08:02 PM

Tell what I think, this 9-4 year, was WORSE! than Shannon's last year! Shannon's defense was NEVER! this horrible in 2010!...NOT EVEN CLOSE!...NO COMPARISON!...NADA!...ZILCH!

AfriCane

VA cane! U r a coach. How about a schematic break down of last night's loss & where we screwed up.

VA Cane

I am not angry I am disappointed. However as bleak as the game was last night, I had an awesome year. I have over 20 kids playing all levels of college football, my boy at UVA Harris8 led nation in interceptions, Jason Snelling scored a TD today and we won another SB and Hopewell Bowl......my football year was HUGE.....I love UM, but I cannot let it bring me down or keep me from developing young men on the field and in life. I do wish I was a little younger I swear I would come to FL sit AG down, and convince him he needs me on the staff. I have no doubt I could succeed coaching at UM....but I will continue to develop them up here.....why Harris8 was not recruited by UM I will never know....UVA has very high standards and grad rates. Someone close to the program should tell the staff that the State of VA has some good players who will block and tackle.

CaneRock

ANYWAYS!, I just have to accept the results of this past season...it was, what it was! I'm just lookin' forward to this QB battle in the Spring & Summer. I'll say it again, LOOK OUT! for that boy Rosier!

laquinton

You got the stats canerock ? I don't believe that the off balance 3-4 fits miami. If we were to play a 4-3 man like fsu was running MIAMI system in 2011 and 2012 under who a ex miami coach in Mark Stoops. It's dumb to fire D'No when golden himself believes this crappy defense works.

CaneRock

Laquinton, to paraphrase..."If everybody in America ran the same defense, only HALF OF EM' WOULD WIN!" IOWs, SCHEME DON'T MEAN $HIT!

Excluding those exotic blitzes, Louisville basically ran the same scheme as Miami...3-4 with 1-High Safety, BUT!, they just KICKED OUR ASSES! with THEIR! version of it.

AfriCane

Beer, labels r bad, but I have no problem saying u r evil, negative & u relish in these 'dark ages' of canes football.
1st it's u saying 'the U is dead.' Now u r suggesting we should not hacking to our glory days with Reed's old speech? Seriously?
1st of, my school is not dead. And yes, I said 'my school.' Because I'm also an alumni, not just a fan. We r just a little down right now. Which happens to every program.
And 2nd, with reed speech, how do we not reach out to our great past if we seek inspiration for the future?

What r u anyway?

raizecane

The best part of this weekend for me was hanging with some spacers friday night…….Oh and meeting Lamer Thomas…..

Old Skool

I'll second that. Anytime we can hang in the future, I'm open.

We have reached out to them. Michael irvin, Ray lewis.. ed reed.. Clinton portis all have spoken to the team. In the off season they come back to train they speak to them. Come on. It's not that.

all have spoken to the team.

Nigeiancane,

The fact you resort to petty name calling and getting so emotional is both laughable and sad. "Evil" you know not the meaning of the word. Showing such a ludicrous lack if restraint shames me to be a part of the same network of Alumni as yourself. Please don't represent yourself and the university in such a negative manner ever again. You should be ashamed.
