On this joyous and festive occasion let me take a minute away from sports to wish each and everyone of you orange and green bleeding knuckleheads out there in Canespace a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Now that we got that out of the way let us appreciate the fact that the Miami Hurricanes have finished the 2013 college football season with a 9-4 record and take look ahead to 2014.
Although some serious Hurricane die-hards out there in Canespace may not be completely satisfied with the final results of this season let us take the time to recognize the accomplishments and improvements of the UM football team under head coach Al Golden.
Even the most vocal critics of Golden must respectfully recognize the following achievements:
- Miami has improved each and every year under Golden, going from 6 wins in 2011, to 7 wins last season and up to 9 wins in his third season at the helm in 2013.
- In 2013 the Hurricanes scored more points on offense and gave up fewer points defensively than last year.
- Miami had several players recognized by the ACC for their accomplishments this post-season and played in their first bowl game in four years.
- Most importantly of all, the Hurricanes beat the stinkin' Florida Gators in what could be the last regular season meeting between the two teams. Therefore, that victory entitles Miami fans to perpetual bragging rights. Winning 9 games is good, but beating the Gators is priceless!
Looking ahead can only mean that we now have about one month and a week away from National Signing Day. Fortunately for us here at Canespace we have recruiting experts like OhioCane, UMike and LB who will constantly keep us up to date with which hat each recruit is wearing on any given day right up until NSD 2014 on the first Wednesday in February.
Well LB won't, he actually hates the recruiting game and could care less about where some high school kid is going to go to school, especially some jock who thinks he is all that and a bag of chips. However, LB is always good for doing some serious research for our continuing "By The Numbers" series of articles that will run through the off-season and up until Spring practice begins sometime in April.
So have fun but be safe out there Canespacers and have a Happy New Year!

Season was a failure.
Again.
That's now eight years in a row Alverage Slogan has failed to live up to preseason expectations for the team he has coached.
He doesn't have it and never will.
Go get Chud.

OFF TOPIC, HOW CAN A STATE PASS A LAW THAT DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS A FEDERAL LAW?
Pot advocates, who had long pushed legalization as an alternative to the lengthy and costly global drug war, had argued it would generate revenue for state coffers and save money in locking up drug offenders.
Still, setting up regulations, taxation and oversight for a drug that's never been regulated before took some time.
Colorado set up an elaborate plant-tracking system to try to keep the drug away from the black market, and regulators set up packaging, labeling and testing requirements, along with potency limits for edible pot.
The U.S. Justice Department outlined an eight-point slate of priorities for pot regulation, requiring states to keep the drug away from minors, criminal cartels, federal property and other states in order to avoid a federal crackdown. Pot is still illegal under federal law.

The Doctrine of Pre-emption and The Supremacy Clause
The law that applies to situations where state and federal laws disagree is called the supremacy clause, which is part of article VI of the Constitution [source: FindLaw]. The supremacy cause contains what's known as the doctrine of pre-emption, which says that the federal government wins in the case of conflicting legislation. Basically, if a federal and state law contradict, then when you're in the state you can follow the state law, but the fed can decide to stop you.
The operative term here, though, is "can."

IMO, needs to be legalized everywhere already.

So far the ACC is 3-4 in bowl games with the VT game still going on and Duke later on tonight. then of course Clemson on Friday and FSU on Monday.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 31, 2013 at 03:52 PM
RCCF - the SEC schools have their own helicopters I think. Nothing we can do about that
Posted by: CGNC | December 31, 2013 at 03:52 PM
BS! "Randy got His"!
Ole' boy was quick to give AG a contract extension after a below sub-par first year, but dragged His feet after RS won 9 games (same as Golden) His third year. So much so, that it effected recruiting for the 2010 class! And I agree with RCCF, I believe that Randy got less than accomadating accomadation during His tenure...it's BS!
Not a rant against you Terrance...IJS!

So a better question do U all think Randy should still be the Head Coach?
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 31, 2013 at 03:58 PM
CaneRock, I think Randy received a contract extension after his 3rd year if I am not mistaken. Just like Coker was given one and then fired. We are awesome at that
Posted by: CGNC | December 31, 2013 at 03:58 PM
yea no shots at U TSull just saying the evidence is there I wont say Randy is the man the savior for the job Im just saying they are playing way nicer with this regime as the last regime hell how many coordinators were we on by now in Randy's tenure with him being one of if not the only fixture that stayed?? How many changes has Golden been forced to make??

Terrance- No, I don't. He hitched his wagon to Northwestern, alienated some of the other high schools, didn't recruit appropriate depth and would not give former players sideline passes. For the UM - FSU game, Randall Hill had to get a pass from someone he knew from FSU. Plus, and remember THIS, he could not utilize a proper timeout to save his life. If is\was such good head coach material, why did no other school pick him up? He is a decent D-Coord, no shame in that
Posted by: CGNC | December 31, 2013 at 04:01 PM
Golden hit his extension due to the NCAA investigation, and possibly as a make good for not being informed about the allegations when hired. Tell me, if Golden left in 2011, what coach exactly could we have gotten with a potential death penalty hanging over our heads.
Posted by: TonyCane | December 31, 2013 at 04:02 PM
RCCF - they are playing nicer because they were not upfront with him about the NCAA mess and the ponzi midget. While AG may have known there were rumblings of something, I am sure he had no idea we would be front page news on USA today and constant story on ESPN for months. Also, maybe his agent is more aggressive, who knows
Posted by: CGNC | December 31, 2013 at 04:03 PM
Yes Its all love CaneSpace Fam its good healthy debate. BTW I aint sold on Al either and if we dont see improvement he needs to be shown the door also.

I had some informal talks with UM about the job just in case he was going to leave but I turned them down to stay with Canespace. Fortunately, it worked out for UM too and Golden stayed.
Plus I didn't have enough sayings to fill out the entire bingo card.

I'm on the bus again in 2014, they have the best Kool-Aid. Blind passion is the best kind! It was so dumb of me to ever get off the bus in seasons past. I want us to have to get a second bus for all the people jumping on next year. I even want to get OGV on the bus. I'll save the seat next to me for him. Hopefully Ohio_Cane heals in time that the doctors will let him ride the bus after what happened last year with the bus running him over on the freeway. Let's go Canes!
