Six Miami Hurricanes were named to the 2013 All-ACC Football teams, announced Monday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). The 2013 All-ACC teams were voted on by 65 ACSMA members.
Junior LB Denzel Perryman and graduate P Pat O’Donnell were both named to the first team. Sophomore RB Duke Johnson, senior WR Allen Hurns and senior OG Brandon Linder were named to the second team, while senior QB Stephen Morris was selected to the third team.
Perryman, who has started all 12 games at linebacker, leads the Hurricanes defense with 104 total tackles – 65 solo stops – along with 5.0 tackles for loss. Perryman, who was honorable mention All-ACC by ACSMA in 2012, has tallied 10+ tackles in six games this season.
O’Donnell, who was named ACC Specialist of the Week on Monday for his career-first forced fumble in a road win at Pitt, ranks third nationally with a 47.3 yards-per-punt average, which leads the ACC by nearly 3.0 yards per kick. O’Donnell has 20 punts of 50+ yards to his credit and 17 that have landed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.
Despite missing the last four games of the season with a fractured ankle, Johnson collected second-team All-ACC honors after rushing for 920 yards and six TDs. He was averaging 115.0 rushing yards per game before his season-ending injury. He averaged 174.1 all-purpose yards per contest.
Hurns is currently enjoying one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history. The senior leads Miami in both receptions (60) and receiving yards (1,138). He is only the fourth player with a 1,000-yard receiving season in school history and 19 yards shy of breaking the school single-season receiving yards mark. Currently, Hurns ranks seventh in Miami history in both career receptions (119) and career receiving yards (1,867) and eighth in career receiving TDs (14).
Linder, a preseason All-ACC selection, helped anchor Miami’s offensive line that paved the way for the Hurricanes to average 446.8 yards of total offense and 35.9 points per game. Miami’s offense scored 40+ points five times in 2013.
Miami’s lone third-team selection was Morris, who has thrown for 2,868 yards and 21 TDs through 12 games. For the second straight season, Morris has posted four 300-yard passing games. The Miami native ranks third all-time in Miami history with 7,736 passing yards and 49 passing TDs. Morris is the only QB this season to throw a 50+ yard pass in nine different games.
Five Miami Hurricanes collected honorable mention All-ACC from ACSMA – senior OT Seantrel Henderson, junior OG Jon Feliciano, sophomore CB Tracy Howard, sophomore S Deon Bush and freshman specialist Stacy Coley.

After FSU and UF sent assistants to Cook for in-home visits, Golden went personally. 12/1 started the "contact period", so this is where the in-home visits start.

With less than a week before division champions compete for their conference titles Saturday, bowl scenarios for the University of Miami still focus on one of two likely games:
• The Chick-fil-A Bowl at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 in Atlanta against, perhaps, the Texas A&M Aggies (8-4) and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.
• The Russell Athletic Bowl at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 28 in Orlando against, perhaps, the Louisville Cardinals (10-1) and Miami hometown quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
The first bowl destination for UM (9-3, 5-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) in three years will depend on whether the ACC Championship game goes pretty much the way everyone except the Blue Devils expects it to go — with BCS No. 1 and 29-point favorite Florida State (12-0, 8-0) defeating No. 20 Duke (10-2, 6-2).
If FSU does get the expected victory and advances to the BCS National Championship on Jan. 6 in Pasadena, Calif., the Orange Bowl would likely select Clemson (10-2, 7-1) as the team to replace FSU — that is, if Clemson is eligible.
The Orange Bowl, which has an automatic tie-in with the ACC champion, could select any replacement for FSU if the Seminoles go to the BCS title game, as long as the replacement is ranked among the top 14 teams in the final BCS standings that come out Sunday.
Clemson is now BCS No.13.
Though the Orange Bowl would not be obligated to take Clemson, it likely would because of a longstanding relationship with the ACC that will contractually continue for the next 12 years.
An Alabama-Clemson game would be one possible scenario for the Jan. 3 Orange Bowl, though everything is contingent on this weekend.

From CIS & Rivals
Jordan Scarlett
2015 RB has a list of 25 early offers
-Miami, Florida, Florida State, UCF and Ohio State top 5
- says "It's a little important to me to stay in Florida, but at the end of the day if the better choice is go out of state that's what I'll have to do,"

-recruited to Miami by Paul Williams
-says "I've been talking to him a lot," Scarlett said. "He talks about don't forget about them, that it's a good place, that it's home for me, stuff like that."
-says "It's a nice, strong program, they are definitely on their way back up to the top. They were top 10, had some injuries that hurt them. They should be great next year, have young guys and have more young guys coming in this year."
- says depth charts will play "a big role"
-says "I really want early playing time," "If I have to beat out one guy for my starting position that's not a problem, I just have to work hard. But being back on the depth chart, a lot of talent on the depth chart, I'd pick another school."

Miami's current class rankings
Rivals - 4th
247 - 5th
Scout - 5th
ESPN - 3rd
So we have a consensus top 5 class this year and it will only get better come Sunday.
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 06:41 AM
K.C. McDermott - 5 Star (Scout)
Chad Thomas - 5 Star (Scout)
Joseph Yearby - 5 Star (Scout)
Trevor Darling - 4 Star
Anthony Moten - 4 Star
Brad Kaaya - 4 Star
Trent Harris - 4 Star (everywhere but Rivals)
Nigel Bethel II - 4 Star (Rivals & ESPN)
Reilly Gibbons - 4 Star (Rivals & ESPN)
Darrell Langham - 4 Star (ESPN)
Brandon Powell - 4 Star (Rivals & ESPN)
Darrion Owens - 4 Star (ESPN)
Braxton Berrios - 4 Star (Rivals & ESPN)
Trayone Gray - 4 Star (ESPN)
That gives Miami 14 commits that are 4 or 5 star players according to at least 1 major recruiting service. Thats over half the class. Also, when we add Dixson Sunday, he will add to this list.
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 06:51 AM
Also, Mike Smith and D. Jackson have been bouncing from 3 to 4 Star on different sites and could easily be added to that list.

Anyone here got an interest in buying a Hurricanes memorabilia set/lot? Things like a full size helmet autographed by he 2009 team, some signed 8x10's, signed footballs, concrete pieces from the OB in a frame, 2001 championship magazines an lots more. If so let me know.

These are good things (the awards), tangible evidence that my premise is correct... Al Golden's vision is working, but the defense is holding him back.
Who the eff gave Seantrel votes? Susan? A last gasp (pun intended, think about it) before #Sutrel cracks before graduation. Flowers deserved the nod moreso than #77.

Now is Al Golden's chance! Hire back 'Coach O', Ed Orgeron, as our Defensive Coordinator!!!!

I have more statistics for you, even more startling.
It's a long read, but it's absolutely worth your time. I'm bumping my previous post not for the sake of doing so, but for understanding.

Previous post:
2011
Wins: 6
TFL: 73
Sacks: 24
Int's: 18
Games with 20+: 7
30+: 2
40+: 0
Shutouts: 0
2012
Wins: 7
TFL: 53
Sacks: 18
Int's: 11
Games with 20+: 8
30+: 7
40+: 4
Shutouts: 0
2013
Wins: 9
TFL: 59
Sacks: 28
Int's: 18
Games with 20+: 9
30+: 5
40+: 3
Shutouts: 0
The Good:
- Wins (+2)? Up.
- TFL (+6), Sacks (+10), and Int's (+7)? Up from 2012.
- Games in which the defense allowed 30+ points (-2)? Down.
The Questionable:
- Games in which the defense allowed 20+ points (+1)? Up from 2012.
- No shutouts.
The meaning?
- In 75% (24/36) of the total games under D'Onofrio, the defense has allowed AT LEAST 20 points.
- In 39% (14/36) of these games, the defense has allowed at least 30 points.
- In 19% (7/36), at least 40 points have been surrendered.
- Of the 12 teams the defense has given up 20 points or less, 3 are FCS teams.
- Of the 9 FBS teams held to under 20 points, the average win total is 5.44.
- Of the 9 FBS teams held to under 20 points, only four of them were conference opponents (the others being Ohio State, USF [2011], USF [2012], FAU, & Florida [2013]).
- Of the 9 FBS teams held to under 20 points, only two had winning records: N. Carolina- 2012, Ga. Tech- 2011.
-----
New Information
Even though the defense is improving in some statistics from 2012 (INT's, TFL's, sacks, and most importantly... wins), there is something buried underneath the surface that may make you question D'Onofrio lasting another day at UM.
Have you noticed that the defense seems to give up a lot of points to bad teams? It's easy to dismiss that as us being irritated, but there's more to it than that. In fact, this trend may be getting WORSE despite playing easier opponents.
Therefore, it was UM's opponents which roused my curiosity.
The statistics I focused upon were UM's opponent's wins, their total points, and their ranking in respect to the landscape of football.
The final statistic? Effectiveness. The opponents points average points scored - UM's points allowed vs. that opponent. It's a metric that produces a positive or negative. Simply put, it tells how UM did against a particular offense in accordance to other teams.
Note: I did not include FCS opponents (Savannah, Bethune) for rankings, wins, points, and the metric because it tells somewhat of a false tale.
2011
Preface: UM allowed 20.8 points per game. Sean Spence helped this a lot.
- UM faced opponents who averaged 6.6 wins a year. 7 of the 12 teams were "bowl eligible" (6 wins or higher).
- The average points scored of their opponents were 28, with a ranking of 66.
- The metric looks good, averaging +7.4 points against opponents.
- The defense fared worse than others against only 3/12 opponents: Maryland, Va. Tech, and Virginia. However, these were all conference opponents who ranked 93rd, 55th, and 92nd in points scored.
Summation: It's surprising UM did this well. The performances against Ga. Tech, K. State, and Duke were very solid. Ga. Tech was in fact, D'Onofrio's BEST game (as UM allowed 7 points against an average of 34.9 scored... +27.9).
2012
Preface: UM allowed 27.25 points a game, more than a touchdown worse than the year before. Young faces make this number understandable.
- UM faced opponents who averaged 7.2 wins a year. 8 of the 12 teams were "bowl eligible" (6 wins or higher).
- The average points scored of their opponents were 30.5, with a ranking of 59.8
- The metric is severely worse, averaging -2.2 points against opponents.
- The defense fared worse than others against 7/12 opponents: Boston College, Kansas State, Ga. Tech, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Virginia, and Duke. All save the Irish and the Wildcats were conference opponents. These were the 111th, 35th, 72nd, 77th, 95th, 46th and 10th best offenses.
Summation: Three BCS opponents makes for a tough year, but the offenses were only slightly better (up 2.1 points per game and 6.2 in ranking). Good outing vs. North Carolina (+22.6 vs. the 11th best offense). But when a defense struggles as demonstrated, the coordinator gets heat.
2013
Preface: In the year of "what might have been," UM allowed 26.25 points a game, a hair less than 2012. Did more experience help?
- UM faced opponents who averaged 6 wins a year. 7 of the 12 teams were "bowl eligible" (6 wins or higher), but FAU may not make a bowl. In short, it's an easier schedule.
- The average points scored of their opponents were 27.6, with a ranking of 76.7. Again, evidence of an easier schedule.
- The metric is better, but still negative: -.1.
- The defense fared worse than others against 6/12 opponents: USF, Wake, Va. Tech, Duke, Virginia, and Pitt. These were the 123rd, 117th, 97th, 41st, 111th, and 86th ranked offenses. All save USF were conference losses.
Summation: Though the metrics are better, take another look at that last statistic. Only half of those teams are bowl eligible. Not only were the 6 bad performances were against bad offenses, but they were also against conference opponents.
I conclude by my overriding premise: Al Golden's vision is working. There are more talented players and he's getting more out of them, as evidenced by the accolades and improved win totals.
Yet all statistics point that D'Onofrio's defense lowers UM's ceiling, and thus Al Golden's vision.
I rest my case.

Unknown player speaking out against NOFENSE

Speaking of Offense the power formation the CANEZ ran against FSU in the first quarter is what AL should run next year especially with a UN-mobile RW

Didn't get any response on this last night but lets try it again... just thought that for myself and others screaming that the d and specifically no'd is the probkem what are possible solutions? I came up with this http://www.49ers.com/team/coaches/Jim-Leavitt/5a3d7795-473a-4919-b2bf-174884765f4d
What y'all think of this guy were talkin experience credibility a proven track record and still radioactive as a head coach so attainable as a dc

If NOFENSE comes back for the 14' season will you turn on AL?
Posted by: SinisterCane | December 03, 2013 at 10:46 AM
I prefer an attack ing style D. I like to go down swinging, just my style. On O I.like to.be more conservative with the ball and let talent and speed win the day. I am glad we stayed pro style on O
Posted by: hassan | December 03, 2013 at 10:57 AM
Fmcane I like Jim Leavitt and he does have a relationship with that Tampa area that can be helpful for our canes. Plus he's a mean ass dude and he will make this defense fly with anger and aggressiveness. which is evident by the way his linebackers play in San Fran. JG
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | December 03, 2013 at 11:07 AM
Upnorth, they were already playing like that but he does have Navarro Bowman playing just as good as Patrick Willis.
Coach O isn't a defensive coordinator he is a Dline coach and a better recruiter. .
Hoping this class sticks and we ad Davin Cook

Golden, Coley and Brown all visited Cook

Ariz in regards to Sony/Cook..
"I still think yes, with Cook being more likely than Sony. Last night was big with Cook and Miami gets the last crack at him on his OV. FSU feels very, very good about landing him"
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:19 AM
Ariz on who might not make it in the class..
Gray - won't qualify
Rosier - have never felt like he was completely solid. Has not returned messages or calls in months and the coaches seen to give Kaaya a lot more love
Turner - not a high priority for Miami right now
Mayes - putting this as a possibility. The longer they go without picking up a safety, the more likely he sticks out of necessity
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:20 AM
^^^^^ Losing Gray will hurt, I hope he can go prep and qualify... is an elite talent.
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:21 AM
Laquinton that's true about them playing like that but I do think Bowman and Willis have improved and become more n more dominant.. maybe its just because they are naturally talented or maybe it can also be because their Lb coach is good.
Here's a guy that I would love to give a shot and he's learned from the best..

Ariz in regards to DL Corey Johnshon and Pelon...
Haven't heard much on Johnson. Sarkisian leaving Washington puts an interesting twist on things with Pelon because it looks like that's where he was headed. If he gets recruited by USC, that could be his spot. His visit here will tell us a lot.
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:21 AM
Ariz on Griffin...
Coaches have continued to stay in contact with him daily which is a stark contrast from a couple months back, where there was not much if a shot at all. The problem is that Griffin is not in school, so literally everything hinges on his ACT score
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:23 AM
Ariz regarding Kiy Hester...
Primary target for Miami at safety right now. Won't know much more until he visits. He's not doing interviews at the moment
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:23 AM
Ariz when asked about a local player Miami i snot recruiting but should...
Michael Johnson - Safety from Champagnat
For three reasons
1) he's a legit top prospect at safety with size, speed, and ball skills. He will be 205 within the next year
2) huge position of need
3) as long as the coaching staff at Champagnat is there, they will have top D1 talent. Would be nice to start a pipeline there
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:24 AM
Ariz regarding D. Jackson & Hester...
He has been adamant in the fact that he is still committed and told me last week that he will most likely be sticking because he wants to be close to his family. I also think that his definition of "committed" is different from our definition.
Yes, there is a legitimate shot with Kiy Hester. Something that could help Miami's chances is the fact that him and Courtel Jenkins are friends and played together last year at DePaul Catholic.
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:26 AM
Ariz re: Valentine...
Never know for certain when transcripts and scores are involved, but the Champagnat coaches are very confident he will be OK

This from a poster at CIS...
Pete,
I'm hearing from a very prominent source in the Miami area who is around the situation regarding the recruitment of Dalvin Cook that Cook is basically paid for by FSU and he is just playing the game to cover his a**, by taking a visit and acting like he is unsure about where he will end up. Have you heard anything similar to this?
Posted by: UMike | December 03, 2013 at 11:27 AM
Bottom line, NOBODY IS GETTING BETTER WITH DENO AS DE-COORDINATOR, well maybe Perrymen. 2 honorable mention, all ACC picks, with 18 veteran players coming back from last year and out of three teams picked we had one. How Bush was even mentioned as honorable I don't know.
Easy Ed would be a great fit and the dude turned down being the highest paid asst. in America. Orgeron, like Shannon is not a major college head coach, maybe down in D-2, they would be good.
Posted by: herbieibis | December 03, 2013 at 11:31 AM
If I'm a kid that gets paid why not just take the money and go to the school you really want to go too. If I'm a top notch recruit I'd make the coach give me the money no one else, that way there if I go down the coach goes down.
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | December 03, 2013 at 11:33 AM
Um should just pay Winston Moss whatever he wants to come Coach our Defense.
