Every year on Canespace we go through this same process: Who are the players that will become a true Legend of the Fall?
So after the 2013 college football season ended we had a brief debate about which University of Miami football players should be selected as Legends of the Fall (LOF) for this season. Let us just say that there were many opinions!
Then we waited for the post-season awards to be issued and the fans to have their input into the process and after all of that here is what we have decided:
Offense: WR Allen Hurns and OL Brandon Linder
Defense: DB Tracy Howard
Freshman: WR Stacy Coley
Coach: Brennan Carroll
Bonus: P Pat O'Donnell
Miami Hurricanes punter Pat O'Donnell was selected to the USA TODAY Sports All-America Second Team on Wednesday. O'Donnell, a first-team All-ACC selection by both ACSMA and the league’s head coaches, is Miami’s first 2013 All-America selection. He is one of 13 selections from the ACC – the most of any FBS conference.
O'Donnell ranks third nationally with a 47.3 yards-per-punt average, which leads the ACC by nearly 3.0 yards per kick. O’Donnell has 20 punts of 50+ yards to his credit and 17 that have landed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. His current average of 47.3 yards per punt is a single-season Miami record.
Hurns is currently enjoying one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history. The senior leads Miami in both receptions (60) and receiving yards (1,138). He is only the fourth player with a 1,000-yard receiving season in school history and 19 yards shy of breaking the school single-season receiving yards mark. Hurns ranks seventh in Miami history in both career receptions (119) and career receiving yards (1,867) and eighth in career receiving TDs.
Linder, a preseason All-ACC selection, helped anchor Miami’s offensive line that paved the way for the Hurricanes to average 446.8 yards of total offense and 35.9 points per game. Miami’s offense scored 40+ points five times in 2013.
Coley played in all 12 games, making six starts at receiver and also saw time at kick returner and punt returner. He was a second-team All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports, third-team All-ACC by league's head coaches and honorable mention All-ACC by ACSMA and was tabbed first-team WR on 247Sports' True Freshman All-America Team. He ranks second on team in receptions (30) and receiving yards (559) and leads the team with seven TD catches.
Coley is the only FBS player in 2013 to record a TD via rushing, receiving, punt return and kick return.
I voted for RB Dallas Crawford because I thought he was desrving of the award because he led the team in TDs and took over the rushing load once Duke Johnson went down. But that selection was apparently voted down.So maybe next year the Fort Myers product can make me and all of the other Canespacers proud in our next edition of: "The Legends Of The Fall" like these two proud young men below?
So which bloggers got it right and won a prize?
Only time will tell as we go back and look at the pre-season votes.
That story will follow in the coming days.

Anybody familiar with the recruiting show on css " In The Huddle "? 4 those of u that aren't its a southern based recruiting show that covers recruits mostly from the south. Long story short, they just released their all CSS 1st team offense & defense team & would u believe only 2 players from the state of Florida made the cut. Travis Rudolph & Kc McDermott. No Cook, no Yearby, no Dixon, no Lane, and most importantly, NO CHAD THOMAS!!! They actually had the nerve to pick Norcross de Lorenzo Carter over Thomas which is definitely insulting after we all witnessed Thomas & Booker T destroy Carter & Norcross. And this ain't coming from no paysite.

Hopefully a L ville fan was pulling this stunt and not one of our guys doing a "Willy Williams"
A significant portion of the Hilton Orlando at 6001 Destination Parkway in South West Orlando had to be evacuated early Tuesday morning due to fire alarms and reports of smoke around 1:30 am. Sources confirm that nearly 250 people, nearly one third of the hotels guests, were evacuated as 3 Full Brigades of Fire Fighters arrived within minutes to assess the situation. After nearly two and a half hours, at 4am, the all clear was given for guests to return to their rooms. Battalion Chief and spokesman Jim Monahan of Department 33 said, "There were multiple fire alarms that were pulled and engaged and what seemed to be a very significant smell and visual confirmation of a metallic smoke mostly associated with smoke bombs or cherry bombs." The University of Miami Football team is in Orlando to play the Louisville Cardinals next Saturday night in the Russell Athletic Bowl . There were several confirmed reports by evacuated guests that many, if not more than half of the 250 guests that were escorted to a safe area outside the Hotel, seemed to be Football players wearing University of Miami attire. But they were all corralled very quickly by what seemed to be Coaches and Administrators to a different area outside the Hotel. Battalion Chief and spokesman Jim Monahan declined to comment about the cause of the alarm and said a full scale investigation was already underway and taken very seriously. A spokesman for the Hilton Orlando also declined comment until the Fire Departments investigation is complete.
Further updates as they are made available.

Once again I wasn't talking about YOU or talking to YOU Lb. But 4 the record you & Willie Will were the only ones bringing up USC on the daily, 4ever calling me out & accusing me of being a Trojan fan especially when they lose & everyone on this blog can bare witness. Even Soup had 2 check a certain blogger a few weeks ago when the blogger tried to bring up Kiffin /USC fiasco. Blogger said " at least we're doin better than Kiffin/ USC lol". Soup's response.. " I could care less about other teams and their problems"... "Only concerned about the team I root 4!" And that's the point I was trying to make to Willie. Sweep around your own front door! Southern Cal struggled cuz they are ALREADY on probation and dealing with scholly losses, WHAT'S OUR EXCUSE? And bare in mind their was an entire thread dedicated to the Auburn Tigers recently. Does that make the creator of the Auburn thread an Auburn fan, or is the poster just giving props where props are due?

I don't know who this is, but he's way wrong on this one. He was being recruited and was offered.
Derricott signed a week ago with KState.
So he's part right. We're NO LONGER recruiting him lol
But yes, Kenny Young is a LB target of ours. Along with Raymon Minor. I would take either or both, but our chances aren't great except for the fact that they'll visit next month

This Date in Hurricanes History...December 24th, 1926 Brought to you by the UM Sports Hall of Fame:
In the First Ever ROAD GAME in school history, the University of Miami defeated the University of Havana 23- 0 in Havana!
Coach Howard Buck's "freshman team" finished the 1926 season UNDEFEATED, 8-0, including a similar 23-0 victory over Havana in a Thanksgiving Day match up in Coral Gables !
The "Hurricanes" as they became known due to the September hurricane that nearly destroyed Miami and caused postponement of the first scheduled football game, outscored their rivals 122 to 13, including 6 shutouts...the closest game was a 9-7 victory over Howard on New Year's Day.

The 1926 Miami hurricane (or Great Miami Hurricane) was a Category 4 hurricane that devastated Miami in September 1926. The storm also particularly damaged Sanibel Island and the Florida Panhandle, the U.S. state of Alabama, and the Bahamas. The storm's enormous regional economic impact helped end the Florida land boom of the 1920s and pushed the region on an early start into the Great Depression.
The Cape Verde-type hurricane formed on September 10. Moving west-northwest while traversing the tropical Atlantic, the storm later passed near St. Kitts on September 14. By September 17 it was battering the Bahamas, impacting the Turks and Caicos Islands with winds estimated at 150 mph (240 km/h).[2] Then, in the early morning hours of September 18, it made landfall just south of Miami between Coral Gables and South Miami as a devastating Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. The storm crossed the peninsula south of Lake Okeechobee, entered the Gulf of Mexico, and made another landfall near Mobile, Alabama as a Category 3 hurricane on September 20 before hooking westward along coastal Alabama and Mississippi, eventually dissipating on September 22 after moving inland over Louisiana.
In Florida, winds on the ground were reported around 145 mph (233 km/h) and the pressure measured at 930 mbar (27.46 inHg) — though all such data is suspect. Most of the coastal inhabitants had not evacuated, partly because of short warning (a hurricane warning was issued just a few hours before landfall) and partly because the "young" city's population knew little about the danger a major hurricane posed. A 15-foot (4.6 m) storm surge inundated the area, causing massive property damage and some fatalities. As the eye of the hurricane crossed over Miami Beach and downtown Miami, many people believed the storm had passed. Some tried to leave the barrier islands, only to be swept off the bridges by the rear eyewall. "The lull lasted 35 minutes, and during that time the streets of the city became crowded with people," wrote Richard Gray, the local weather chief. "As a result, many lives were lost during the second phase of the storm."[3]

Grandmother told me a story like this except she lived in Indian Rocks and the year was around 1920. She said when the eye passed over many neighbors thought it was over and they walked out exploring on the mud and grass flats because the water had been sucked out in the gulf and were caught out there when the wind and water rushed in.

NativeCane....here U go:
The Tampa Bay hurricane of 1921 (also known as the 1921 Tarpon Springs hurricane) was the third hurricane, second major hurricane, and final storm of an inactive 1921 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm took a typical path for an October Atlantic hurricane, brushing past Cuba before hitting near Tampa, Florida, becoming the first major hurricane to hit the area since the hurricane of 1848. The hurricane was also the most destructive storm of the season, causing around $10 million (1921 USD, $92 million (2005 USD) in damage.
As it turned to the north in the Gulf of Mexico, the hurricane maintained its intensity before curving to the north-northeast on October 24. Thereafter, it turned northeast and quickly weakened, making landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Tarpon Springs, Florida, on October 25 with sustained winds of 115 mph (185 km/h) and a central pressure of 958 mb (28.29 inHg).[3] The hurricane quickly crossed Central Florida before entering the Atlantic, weakening to a minimal hurricane over land.
