Jw, your math is wrong on recruiting.

1. We enrolled 33 in the 2011 class

2. Yes, 25 is the limit on Summer enrollee's, but the only limit on EE is any amount that takes U over the previous years 25 limit. (Example: If U signed 10 in 2012, U could have 15 EE for 2013)

3. We already have 6 EE that have signed grant-in-aid packages to enroll in January.

4. We will sign around 32-33 this year, if my facts aren't eluding me

Will never forget the amazing scramble by Vinny vs. OU.

Agreed fully from your comments on the last blog. We all have beaten our comments into the ground about our concerns. Complaining incessantly serves no purpose and only hurts going forward. Now is the time to discuss the bowl game, recruiting, hoops and baseball. I love following recruiting, but mostly just want to be awakened first thing on NSD to see who is with the U as true "commits."

We will beat Lil Miami by double digits!!!

Thanks, Ohio- I try to follow recruiting, but just don't have the patience to remember most of the rules and details.

Agree on this. Nobody is changing any minds, time to move on and forget yesterday's disappointment. No UM games today so we can't be pissed about what happened today, right? :)

CaneRock

Barry Jackson:

### Though UM would never admit it, there was disappointment internally –-- including on the Hurricanes’ football staff -- about being passed over by the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, which is more prestigious than the Russell Athletic Bowl. Chick-Fil-A Bowl officials told UM that their bowl committee believes they should take the best team and that Duke beat UM.

The Raleigh News & Observer said ACC commissioner John Swofford pressured Chick-Fil-A to take Duke, but UM has no evidence of that and consequently isn’t upset with Swofford.

### The ACC has discussed having UM play in Louisville in their Labor Day weekend opener next year, but that’s undecided. In Weeks 2 through 4, UM plays FAU, Florida A&M and at Nebraska.

### Palm Beach Dwyer four-star receiver Johnnie Dixon –-- considering UM, Alabama and Ohio State –-- delayed his decision for at least a few days… Palm Beach Cardinal Newman four-star receiver Travis Rudolph, a former UM commitment, said he’s considering UM again....

Miami Central High four-star running back Dalvin Cook reportedly liked his UM visit, but some consider FSU still the favorite. This is too close to call, with UF also still in the picture... Per Canesport.com, Fork Union Military tight end Ryheem Lockley --- who was supposed to be part of UM's 2013 class --- still needs to boost his SAT score by 20 points to qualify for UM.

j.w.

God do I hope we don't play Louisville in the opener. Swofford owes us that much, we've done the bowl game followed by the opening game once already and nobody liked it (fans, tv, media, etc.)

Just think, they'll be serving up a greenhorn Qb to us. How thoughtful can you be!

Great stuff Rock.

Very good pun in the title Soup

Primetime Labor Day game is exciting, I think this team will be ready, Nebraska next year is big! Starting off 4-0 is very realistic.... I'm not afraid of Louisville or Bridgewater. Yes he will get "his" but so will MIAMI and MIAMI will be better....

Let's go Canes!!!!

SOUP

I think it will be interesting to watch the Louisville defensive scheme, strategy and performance against our offense in the bowl game and compare and contrast that to our defense. Strong at UL is a very good defensive coach so that would be something to watch for.

GO CANES, BEAT THE 'VILLE!

Sinistercane

Do we have any defensive tackles coming in as early enrollees?

Not that I know of...heck, last time I checked, Valentine was having issues with one of His classes. Hopefully He got that taken care of, we'll see...

LB

We've got to win this game and get that 10 win plateau. 2014 and this recruiting nonsense will come when it comes.

IDK if it was posted yet, but Pete Ariz said Miami fans can go ahead and take JUCO DT off our radar... he aint coming.

CORAL GABLES — If you’d like to see highlights of the Hurricanes’ open practices last weekend, you’ve come to the right place.

This footage was shot at UM’s Dec. 7 and 8 practices, which were open to fans (and reporters). Watch the video below, and scroll down for a blow-by-blow of what you’re seeing.

When Sun Life Stadium was known as Joe Robbie, it hosted a game called the Blockbuster Bowl. The inaugural game, held in 1990, saw two coaching legends, Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno, go at it. Bowden’s Florida State beat Paterno’s Penn State by a touchdown. Wearing No. 89 for the Nittany Lions: a 21-year-old junior tight end named Al Golden.

The game has since moved to Orlando’s Citrus Bowl, and Golden’s Hurricanes are ready to play there tomorrow. They can officially gear up to play Louisville in the Dec. 28 Russell Athletic Bowl.

Because of all the connections – for starters, the numerous players from UM and UofL who grew up with each other in South Florida — both teams are excited about the game.

Miami was also considered for the Chick-fil-A Bowl (Dec. 31 in Atlanta), which wound up picking Duke and SEC opponent Texas A&M.

“We’re excited to be at the Russell Athletic Bowl,” Miami Athletic Director Blake James said. “There’s a lot of great bowls out there … Orlando makes sense for us in so many ways. It gives our fans a chance to see the program and be in the state of Florida.”

Golden said his team, which held two spirited practices last weekend, is salivating over the opportunity.

“The energy from those practices, we haven’t had that,” Golden said. “These guys are excited about playing an excellent Louisville team. I’m sure all the other storylines will emerge in terms of guys that know each other, played against each other. That’s going to make it fun. From a viewership standpoint and of course, a packed house there in Orlando, that’s going to make it all fun.”

Jackson de-commits: According to Rivals.com, Miami-Booker T. Washington defensive end Demetrius Jackson backed off his verbal commitment to Miami. Jackson (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) downgraded the Hurricanes to “top four” status with Louisville, Arkansas and West Virginia. Jackson, who won a state title with Booker T. last weekend, plans to visit UM Jan. 17 and make his announcement on national signing day (Feb. 5).

Season of giving: According to Sports Business Daily, which collected information from various bowl reps and vendors, players in the Russell Athletic Bowl will receive these items three:

1. A $450 gift card for Best Buy and shopping trip. Here’s the fine print: the gift card can only be used during the team’s official trip to the store. The remaining balance will be forfeited. YOU MUST DECIDE NOW.

2. A Timely Watch Co. watch, presumably with the Russell Athletic Bowl logo. Flash

Last, but certainly n– yeah, actually, this is least:

3. A Russell Athletic workout t-shirt. (Wow, gee, thanks guys!)

The NCAA allows each bowl to award up to $550 worth of gifts to 125 participants (players, coaches and staff) per school. At some bowls, players are allowed to enter “gift suites,” where they can have their choice of items, sometimes new-and-unreleased. SBD’s piece has details on that.

Vinny honored: Hurricanes great and 1986 Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday. The ceremony will be streamed live at 8 p.m. on ESPN3 and footballfoundation.org.

Nash workin...

Death, taxes, and Al Golden's staff recruiting in New Jersey. That's what seems to be the norm in our society nowadays. Golden continues to recruit hard in "The Garden State" as the class of 2014 recruiting season rolls on.

However with only a few short months left, the 'Canes staff is focusing on one player in particular from New Jersey.

That player is six-foot-four, 217-pound wide receiver David Njoku (Nuh~Joh~Koo) of Cedar Grove, New Jersey.

David is one of the many prospects who is taking an official visit to Miami this weekend.

"I am just looking for somewhere I can live for the next four to five years." said Njoku. "I want to see if it would be a good fit for me. I definitely want to check out the academic program."

Njoku, who de-committed from Rutgers in mid-October, has a slew of Miami coaches currently recruiting him.

"There are a lot of them." Njoku said. "Coach Barrow, Coach D'Onofrio, and Coach Carroll are all recruiting me heavy.

Although David had yet to talk to any current Miami commits or targets throughout the recruiting process, he looks forward to meeting a few of them this weekend. Especially, fellow New Jersey stars, Kiy Hester and Courtel Jenkins.

The 'Canes may get lucky and have this be Njoku's final official visit before National Signing Day.

"I have nothing planned as of yet. I may visit Ohio State during mid-January but nothing planned yet and we'll just go from after this weekend." Njoku said.

Njoku also tells me his announcement probably won't be coming before National Signing Day.

However, the 'Canes appear to be in the driver seat for this top-notch athlete.

**In my opinion, the 'Canes are coming hard after Njoku in belief that they might not land Dwyer wide receiver Johnnie Dixon. Or even longshots, Ermon Lane and Travis Rudolph. They feel good about their chances with Njoku.

Ariz workin...

Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day for Booker T. Washington linebacker Demetrius Jackson. After weeks of talk whether he would stick with his Miami commitment or not, Jackson officially decommitted before committing later in the day.

“Honestly, you know I’m so new to this process, but I realize it’s a privilege to have an opportunity to play at the University of Miami. It’s done and that’s where I’m going. All other offers are closed. If I could sign early, I would, but I have to wait ‘till February,” said Jackson.

A talk with Miami linebackers coach Micheal Barrow was one of the major reasons for Jackson changing his mind back so quickly.

“He was just telling me about family and how there are seniors leaving at the position they’re recruiting me at. He talked to me about how it’s a prestigious college and I thought about how they were the first school on me when I was a 0-star recruit so I wanted to show loyalty by sticking by them and loyalty is extremely important to me. I see that the Canes family sticks by me because I saw how they went crazy when they thought they were losing me, but I’m staying.”

What kind of role did his family make in his decision to stay in Miami?

“All of my family is honestly die-hard Canes fans and they were upset when I was thinking about my decision. What if I get homesick? I can always catch the Metrorail back or they can come to campus to see me and I can see their face and hear their voices because I love my family to death. I love this Overtown community where I come from to death. After a game, I’m not one of those players who is bigheaded. I like to go and hang around my home boys and the old dudes.”

Jackson will receive an in-home visit from Barrow, Jethro Franklin, and Mark D’Onofrio tomorrow night. D’Onofrio has an idea of how he will use Jackson at Miami.

“He says I’m going to be a stand-up rusher and outside linebacker, so that’s why I need to fill out quickly once I get to the college level.”

The Tornadoes just finished off their undefeated season with a State Championship win over Jacksonville Bolles.

“It felt so great, man. I was jumping around the field, doing backflips. It felt like I was on top of the world and I still can’t believe it. We’re national champs. Little old Booker T in the heart of Overtown is national champs. That’s a blessing because back in the Spring I was a nobody and now everyone knows my name. I still have that in my mind that I’m still a low-key guy and humble. I would do it all over again the same way if I could.”

Some Miami fans are worried about his BTW teammates Chad Thomas and Nigel Bethel taking visits elsewhere. Does Jackson see the three of them at Miami together.

“I honestly think so because we have built a bond and we don’t want to break that.”

From Ariz...

A few things

Not enough info for a new Work, but here are a few things I thought I'd pass along.

**Dalvin Cook is telling people that FSU is his pick right now. The longer his recruitment goes, the better for Miami's chances. Miami is aware that they still trail and will not give up.

**The Ohio State talk with Johnnie Dixon continues getting stronger and stronger. Miami is not giving up, but they do not feel confident.

**I started a thread on this, but take Claude Pelon off your lists.

UMike

I talked about it the other day, the Dywer coach is tight with Meyer from his Florida days. There ara also rumors that coach hates Miami... he is a Florida grad lol.. at least WR is not such an area of need.

UMike

Golden was in NJ visiting schools yesterday

UMike

I think the staff knows Dixon is gone and that is why they are putting in the work for the NJ WR David Njoku

UMike

I am starting to think Miami will pull 4-Star Safety Kiy Hester.

thirstybuzzardcane

Andre Johnson is a class act!!!!!

Very possible. Also, I really like this Njoku kid too. 6'4, 217 already. They could keep his weight down and not let him balloon into a TE.

Michael Wyche?

UMike

Sinister..I forgot to post the name..my bad.... no its Claude Pelon

CaneRock

Seeing as to how Al's recruiting in the NE, NY/NJ may be a sorta recruiting hotbed for us. Reason being, once those 6'0-6'4+ athletes realize that they have no shot at a bball scholly, they migrate to football.

Ohio_Cane

@MiamiHurricanes: Senior WR Allen Hurns needs 19 yards to break UM single-season record and 133 to become 7th 2,000-yard receiver at UM http://t.co/rS7ry09QlU

UMike

First I lean wit it, then I rock wit it... I got a candy apply drop with a glock in it!!

Dam song has been stuck in my head all day....that dam Mike Jones!!!!

Go Canes

Is that the juco DT from California?

UMike

I think so, he was a strong Washington lean until they lost their coach.

UpNorthCane27

the guys name is claude pelon he's the one with family from florida.

We still have Wyche who plays out in cali but is originally from Maryland I believe.

UMike

So the top 3 JUCO DT's (Cory Johnson & Claude Pelon) are off the board. As long as we keep Valentine and/or he qualifies, we will be good for this class at that position.

UMike

^^^^^ Top 2

UMike

We got...

Valentine - 4 Star
Moton - 4 Star
Wyche - 4 Star JUCO (on 247)
Jenkins - 3 Star.

I wouldnt be surprised if we added someone who isnt on the radar yet, but we gave some big targets left and space is tight.

UpNorthCane27

For those in the know... Any good Dt's coming out of Florida next year?

herbieibis

If we lose Valentine, they'll being scrounging under every rock to bring someone in, and by someone I mean the preverbial under the radar guy.

UMike

UpNorth...as of right now I dont see ANY, or LB's... if you look at the Rivals250 for 2015 there are plenty of DB's and WR's in this class in South Florida, but no DT's

UMike

Im sure there will be some Florida kids emerge since our coaches know the area and can find kids...but there arent any big name DT's or LB's at the moment. That could all change once the camps start

VA Cane

Wyche is from VA originally VA Beach area

UMike

247, who is normally pretty good with their rankings, has Wyche as a 4-Star JUCO player. I mean he was a USC commit, not some guy we stole from Idaho lol

UMike

Look SOUP..Im being positive..and no coach bashing lol

VA Cane

I don't see Cook coming; got a good friend from FSU they seem to think he is going there. I think he's just a kid who is 18 not sure of what to do. Hey that is ok as long as he gets an education. Sure I would love that kind of talent, but I am not gonna bash a kid for being 18 in the spotlight just make a good decision for you not UM. I cannot get on kids for this is a big time in their lives.

Just to clarify myself, I do not bash kids or coaches as people. I have been in this line of work too long to do that. I have said repeatedly, and will continue to do so when need be that our fundamentals are not sound; you know I am 100% right spot on. BUT.....we can work on that aspect....it has to be coached it should be coached over and over and over ....like I repeat that word. I also said I did not care for Shannon's ways....he is not very user friendly, but some people are. I never use the word suck....it was coined many years ago, and if you think long and hard....you tell someone you suck....well you suck what? It is dirty, even pornographic. So I do not say it. I think that we could improve all around if we emphasize the fundamentals I preach. Hey a guy who can run a 4.4 40....has some muscle....and can tackle perfectly every time? You will get better quickly....just need to work on it..players and coaches...JMO

UMike

VA..good stuff. Cook might also just like FSU and their coaches better. And for all we know he doesnt REALLY want to be paired with Yearby. Its all good...we cant get them all. This is a far cry from last tear when we struck out badly with top local kids.

orange 'n green in the vein

It's not bashing if the staff has previously taken an Idaho recruit/commit UMike, first of all, it's just descriptive. I don't follow recruiting so I have no idea if that's the case or not.

Second of all, Idaho has never lost a bowl game, third of all, they're coached by a Petrino brother, and finally Moscow Idaho is the dried lentil and chickpea capital of the world.

Just thought you'd like to know those facts about the school.
