Six Atlantic Coast Conference baseball teams, led by No. 1 Virginia, are ranked in Baseball America’s preseason Top 25 rankings.
The Cavaliers, who were picked by the ACC coaches as the league’s preseason favorite last week, earned the top spot in the poll for the first time in program history. They are joined in the Top 10 by No. 5 NC State and No. 6 Florida State.
With Virginia at No. 1, it marks the second straight season that a team from the ACC has held the preseason top spot after North Carolina last year.
Rounding out the ACC teams in the Top 25 are No. 13 Clemson, No. 16 Miami, and No. 17 North Carolina. The six league representatives are the second most from any conference in the country.
Miami will return its entire starting rotation in 2014, including Louisville Slugger All-American lefthander Bryan Radziewski and USA Baseball Collegiate National Team member Chris Diaz. The duo combined to make 30 starts this past season, and both finished among the top three in the ACC in earned run average.
Both Radziewski (29th round, St. Louis Cardinals) and senior righthander Javi Salas (38th round, Minnesota Twins) decided to return to campus after being selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, while Freshman All-America David Thompson (.286, six home runs, 46 RBI) will help anchor a Miami lineup that returns seven starters from a year ago.
Joining the returning nucleus is a recruiting class ranked among the best nationwide. The group was rated No. 4 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 6 by Baseball America – its highest ranking from the publication since 2006. The Hurricanes have had two classes ranked among the top 10 by both publications in back-to-back seasons.
The 2014 season gets under way on Feb. 14 with all 14 ACC teams in action. The poll from Baseball America: http://theacc.co/1fhEuP9.

I've been to warmer places like Cancun, Riviera Maya, etc. Not that I don't LOVE that weather, but I would miss the cold. Doesn't bother me.

Right now my 11yo daughter is home alone and my 15yo son is stuck at school because the buses werent able to make it back and up a hill to the school lol... I grew up slamming Coronas in Mexico and San Diego. Its nice, no doubt. So is slamming back a pilsner at the cabin on Henry's Lake after a morning hike in West Yellowstone. I'd miss the seasons too. Plus you can have all the people down there in Florida. I'll take my mountain tops, elk, moose, nature.

If U start sliding, don't tense up and hold the brake down. Let up, then pump them slowly.
Also, watch 2-4 cars ahead of U for sudden stops. Slowing down gently >>> having to slow down quickly.

Dude, do U hunt? I bow and gun hunt whitetail here (and coyote when they present themselves lol). I've always wanted to bow hunt elk
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 28, 2014 at 01:56 PM
O_C, I've hunted duck and geese. Never Elk or Deer, yet. I'm learning still, I wanted to go last season but didn't get a tag in time. I bought a Remington 700 chambered 30-06. I can't wait, I want to butcher it to but that may be a bit much my first go 'round. My uncle and my dad go every year, I've just never been terribly interested until recently.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 28, 2014 at 02:02 PM
I have mad respect for bow hunters as that is actual hunting. Too many call themselves a hunter as they shoot from their truck bed or 4 wheeler. If I had it my way, it would all be bow hunting.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 28, 2014 at 02:03 PM
You can hunt wolves here too O_C.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 28, 2014 at 02:04 PM
A few years ago, I was coming home from Stanley, ID and came down Galena Summit. My wife and I saw wolves taking down a elk and eat it. It was freaking sweet.

I'm all about the bow hunt. Gun season in Ohio is only 1 week for shotgun and 3 days for muzzleloader. No other rifle hunting for whitetail.
Whitetail is the ultimate hunt, especially using a bow. Smartest animal I've ever come across. Their sense of smell is impeccable. Especially the big trophy bucks. They haven't survived long enough to grow that size horns for no reason. Scouting, waiting, etc for one to get within 40-50 yards max is a crazy feeling. Got 2 doe this year, but no bucks.
Butchering yourself is the way to go if U know what you're doing. Saves $$ for sure. U can ruin cuts and waste meat by not doing it the right way. I'd pay to have it butchered until someone teaches U the right way.

Wolf would be an exciting hunt. Coyote around here are always fair game and are a problem in our area, so we shoot every one we see when we're out. Which isn't often, but when one gets close enough, his day is over. They attack livestock, pets, children, etc and are a real big problem

OC it is cold all over except in FL I guess. I love playing coaching in it.....Parcells always said that is championship football.
Only problem I have is the damn Dominion Power Bill. My last house I had a monster woodstove had it so set to keep whole house warm. All I had to do was get wood, but when not appraising that's what I do.... trees. I had enough for 3 winters at a time. This house had a gas fp, but with times real low economically, could not afford gas. Then to pay rent on a tank got to be a problem, so I told them come get it.
Still love playing in it always have. If you get your guys on that page....it takes coaching, psychology.....and many years of playing in it.....and knowing all the secrets, tidbits, odds and ends.....and some mountain folklore and fairy dust......it is an awesome advantage. Going way back, out of the 12 or so SBs, we have never lost on a tile run in cold weather....in HS we won back to backs you had to win 3 to win it all....we won 6 cold weather games.....love it brings out the heart and will of a champ.....my guys have shoed over the years that it hurts to get hit in the cold....it breaks you mentally and physically.....we call it Owning Your Soul .....these little things make it work in the cold re football!!!!

Yes UM.....slow slow slow...if you have an automatic.... keep her in 1 or 2 more traction lower gear ratio.....clean car off real good and give your self a lot of room.....never hurry slow and steady gets you there....and if you do slide steer into the slide pump brake no stomp.....and as you slow and feel it correcting then you can straighten it out.....slow works best

A lot of people use AR15s on the wolf hunts here because you never know how many you're calling in. In some areas the wolves are a problem, in other areas people are just pissed that they have to deal with them now. I don't feel bad for them though. They have their livestock on public lands, the public says we want these animals, that's America.

Ohio...Harry Miller from California is planning a bow/rifle hunt for Elk in the mountains of Northern New Mexico for Canespacers next year. This year he is going scouting trip and next year it is ON! He says U have to camp out on the mountain overnight amongst the beasts to have any shot at them at dusk and most likely in the early AM.
NativeCane and I are already ALL IN.

Harry knows a landowner there with a property allgedly "covered in Elk". Their convo went something like this: He asked her "How many do you think we can get?" and she asked him "How many U want?"
He is gonna get the license info and local details this year on his scouting trip and then we are going next year.

UMike here's another tip from a Floridian that had to learn about winter driving in Tennessee. Stay well back of 18 wheelers, particular in the day after the snow is over and the warm-up has begun. Snow or ice can loosen from the top of the tractor trailer and blow off in one sheet. It's enough to break a windshield.
