Remember folks, we are not here defending or arguing why Miami is not great or why we cant be average. People are here actually defending and making excuses as to why its ok to be this bad! I have never seen this

I think U are reading or interpreting some of the comments the wrong way but it was an impressive post nonetheless.

Old Skool

Pete Seegar RIP

VfB_Cane

Just to prove the accuracy of SOUP's "dumb and dumber" article, here's another prime example featuring our in-state rivals:

http://recruiting.blog.ajc.com/2014/01/27/hand-to-hand-combat-over-lorenzo-carter/

Dude on a Pale Horse

Go Canes you are right about the offense, the big plays for sure hid much of the problems with Morris and his inconsistancies. Plus the play calling was very questionable. Like Duke up the middle on short yardage when you have Gus and Hagens on the sidelines. Waiting to get Walford involved. Bubble screen after bubble screen. We will know more about James Coley next year, as of right now consider me unimpressed. Whoever the starting QB is next year will have plenty of weapons. Duke, Gus, Coley, Waters, Dorsett & Walford. But they need a commander. A guy that demands more and leads them in preperation and on the field. I don't think Olsen has that makeup in him. Not sure about Williams. There is no reason why this team should be so awful on 3rd down next year, really they should have been much better in 2013.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Jiggafras,

That kind of talk makes me think you're a Hurricanes fan, not just an Al Golden fan. You nailed it in your post. Very well written my friend.

Dude on a Pale Horse

WW,

That's funny and I think true. Diamonds are made under intense pressure. I like that people are putting pressure on him as he's yet to deliver, but the Florida win makes me really happy. Ultimately, Golden would be golden had he fired Marky No'D after the season, but Golden decided that he's the smartest guy in the room and that BFFs come before winning. He deserves all of his heat for sponsoring and making excuses for his DC. Then he flirted with Penn State on top of it. It kills me when people act like he's done us a miracle job here. He's had moments where you can see greatness and moments where you can see complete failure. He's learning on the job. The admin is cool with it, they just want to go bowling and graduate players, so Golden will never get pressure from them to be great. It has to come from former players (who are starting to question him) and the fans.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Bama is stacked at RB for a reason. Ingram, Richardson, Lacey, next is Yeldon and Henry. All getting/will be getting paid on Sundays. Plus they are paying players, as far as we know, we are not. Scarborough will get touches anywhere he chooses to commit to. Scarborough is a freak as O_C said. I will be shocked if we land him, but super happy. Still hoping we get Valentine and Jackson and Harris as I feel like they are guys we're supposed to get. I'd take Jackson over Bethel any day. But Bethel might be really good in the right system. Scarborough would take the sting out of Powell, Cook and Michel a lot.

TonyCane

Again, one day a recruit will either expose on smart phone video the enhanced Recruiting, or a friend will. It will bust out on social media and will be a huge story.

WWIN

CSM...U are 100% correct. FSU fans I know VERY well wanted Fisher gone from FSU before this past season. And I mean GONE!

Posted by:Β 86CaneΒ |Β January 27, 2014 at 11:59 AM

So the answer is...

Be negative about Golden and hope he's gone and he'll eventually win the Ship!!!

CaneRock

Fournette might be better, but Scarborough is FREAKIER! Not only can He tote the rock, but the kid has some MITTS! You rarely ever see a kid that's a 5* TE, and a 5* RB all rolled into one...SCARY!

herbieibis

Here we go again, just like last year, trying to find another RB at the witching hour. A whole year to recruit and evaluate and it's down to 3 guys, Scarborough is a prayer, McKnight is down to us, So. Miss & mighty Louisiana Laffaytte, And Solomon Hunter, is being recruited by power house Sam Houston St. & Houston Baptist. This should never happen but this is 2 years in a row. I'm sure there are plenty of capable alternate Rb's in the State of Florida but we have some how by-passed them all and I'm not even counting Scarborough. You want to know why we don't have depth of talent, well here is a good reason, Geeze!

herbieibis

Bama, is stacked at RB already with 3 5-star guys and Scarborough is verballed their? If we can flip him, we'd put him at FB and never give him the ball.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Thank heavens that these HS players can't jump straight to the NFL. It makes CF so much better.

Ohio_Cane

Yep. I wouldn't put him with Fournette, but there are similar comparisons. Fournette could go to the NFL right now. This kid needs a year or 2, but he'll be a starter there one day. 1st round pick in a few years if he continues to develop his game

CaneRock

Ohio_Cane, Scarborough is in the same league as Fournette. Even Weinke said..."He can go to an NFL training camp, and not blink an eye."

Ohio_Cane

Bo Scarbrough to UM is trending upward. If he visits this weekend like it's being reported, we've got a real shot.

If U haven't seen this kid play, go watch. 6'2, 230 and doesn't just "run over people", but can. He's a faster, more agile Gus Edwards. "Freak" is a good word to use considering his age/size.

http://youtu.be/OY4xWCM_rrc

Ohio_Cane

CR, Gaillard is not a Plan B. We were recruiting this kid and taking his commitment regardless who was coming to UM. He's been committed to UGA and apparently isn't a fan of Pruitt and his DL coach there he was really connected to got fired so he may flip.

Hassan

They didn't give him $$$, just a lifetime gift card to McDonald's.

For $10,000. LOL

People joke about this but word on the street is that he flipped for 15k

I know some people close to the situation and it is pretty much confirmed on the street, he has lots o designer threads now but of course he got that for "X-Mas"

CaneRock

And really, Golden can't reconcile "bend don't break"..."can't get pressure with the front 4"...with all those garbage ass stats that He was spewing on WQAM. He can't reconcile those stats with what I saw at the FSU game...He really can't.

CaneRock

Remember folks, we are not here defending or arguing why Miami is not great or why we cant be average. People are here actually defending and making excuses as to why its ok to be this bad! I have never seen this

Posted by: Jiggafras | January 27, 2014 at 10:58 PM

YUP!

And you know what, reflecting on some comments Golden has made about the defense..."Bend don't break"..."We can't get pressure with the front 4". That's QUITTER! talk. He might as well just say, that He's gonna concede 35 points to the other team, and play catch up. I was at the FSU game, the "defense" didn't even PUT UP A FIGHT!

CaneRock

**They aren't recruiting any "back-up plan" types at this stage. The only prospects they are legitimately talking to are legit Miami kids."

Like hell they aren't...didn't Gaillard cancel His visit last week...

Nevertheless, Gaillard is a legit prospect, He reminds me of Porter. Hope we flip em'.

Da U N Houston

I thought the same thing about Walton transferring indicates the "Ice" is leaving.

I think Ice left UM for two reasons (Golden wanted him to stay)
1. He wanted to coach Treon his youngest son through highschool
2. He wanted to help Tim Jr. get situated. He can leave and Tim Jr. will become the next Head Coach at BTW.

So now he can get a spot back at UM. Might get Treon on board too.

Jiggafras

Defenses are bad because they are bad, not because of ST, or the cloud, or anything else. Its like a ever changing cycle of excuses for No'D. Last year at Duke and UVA we put up 52 and 40 points, at times scoring TDs off long drives. Our D turn around and allowed the opposition to walk right down the field. Golden rolled out the youth excuses and how much he made the decision to outscore the opposition. This year the youth excuses cant really be use, its because the offense wont stay on the field. Its al bull, not partially, 100% bull.

Our offense were simply terrible under Shannon, time and time again they put our D in ba positions....never have they sunk to the levels we have reached here. For christ sakes we had Patrick Nix for 2 years, Kirby Freeman as a starter and a punter for a WR and our OL was in pretty bad shape....like really bad. Like no talent. Our D had alot of bad performances under Shannon but never the weekly record setting performances by every QB we see now. Stop making excuses, for us to blame anything that the D for the D problems is excuses. Thats how i see it. I don't hear anyone saying Morris was Pressing because our D cant stop traffic in cops uniform.

Does anyone remember the Duke, VT game from this year? Who won the game? Duke offense could not move the ball....in anyway, their offense was simply atrocious. Did their D lay down? No they bamboozled Logan Thomas in Blacksburg. You no why?....because it their job, no matter what the offense does. And they have a competent DC who figured out how to stop VT's putrid offense, something we have failed to do in 2/3 years.

We have had all type of issues on and off the field, but none of it can explain the historic atrocity that is our defense...none of it. In the real world if u reach work late, or fall asleep on the job, u usually get fired. No one care that u have 4 kids or u have to stay up late cooking dinner or cleaning up or running errands or dropping your kids off at school. You get the job done or you're fired.

Before a team becomes good or great, you see evidence of greatness, you see potential. Under Fisch we had shown we were about to take off offensively. I have not seen any sign of anything from No'D. Everybody thats defending him whether with facts or not, is really wishful thinking right now. And do not mention Temple. If u go to sign a contract as a football player and you bring up your stats from 3 years before they would probably cut you.

Remember folks, we are not here defending or arguing why Miami is not great or why we cant be average. People are here actually defending and making excuses as to why its ok to be this bad! I have never seen this

Well Walton to MC, can only mean Ice to UM.

They're not mutually exclusive, but I sure hope so.

Ohio_Cane

Ariz:

Not enough for The Work and not necessarily a ton of new info, but I got more confirmation on a few things today -

**Lamont Gaillard will be here this weekend and Miami feels like he is flippable.

**Good chance Scarborough makes it for the official visit this upcoming weekend. No guarantees, but his unofficial was not just a get-away.

**Still no worries about Demetrius Jackson from Miami's side.

**Kaaya has given Miami no indications that he won't be at Miami.

**Almost not worth mentioning Valentine to Miami fans at this point...LSU

**Trending up with JC Jackson.

**Miami believes that Chad Thomas will stick, but look for them to turn up the heat in the coming days. They know that the FSU visit made an impression on him.

**As of right now, it looks like Lenius will be a part of this class.

**Miami is very much in it for Ross. Don't know if they lead, but his interest is extremely real especially after last weekend.

**They aren't recruiting any "back-up plan" types at this stage. The only prospects they are legitimately talking to are legit Miami kids.

CaneRock

Well Walton to MC, can only mean Ice to UM.

Dj, not fake. He's been trying hard to reclassify and apparently transferring to Central gets him closer to being able to. I don't know specifics, but that's what I've read

Looks like 3 RBs may visit UM this weekend

lol http://miami.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1602657 …

Go Canes

Problem with our offense in my opinion was the big plays helped overshadow way too many inconsistent performances.

We'd have a ton of 3 and outs then hit a 65 yd td.

Nothing wrong against some teams but when you're up against good teams you have to put together sustained drives.

Those were few and far between when we really needed them.

CaneRock

RCCF, I think that Outlaws team has a lotta Cane in em' LMAO! We need to offer that lil' RB that they have, that kid is FAST AS HELL!

Da U N Houston

Man I went down and seen the game against Central, and he put on a show against Phillips and I believe Phillips is better than E. Lane as a JR.

You guys are spoiled, the football played down in Florida is light years ahead. He might be average in SoFl, but he'll ball out in other places.

And I agree BTW has some playa's so his speed woudl come in handy!

If they pulled the schollie they have their reasons and I am cool with that.

dj moonbat

But still the funny thing is.. despite how horrible our D is, our O was just as bad.

Posted by: CaneSawMassacre | January 27, 2014 at 03:50 PM

No. It wasn't. It was significantly better.

In scoring/yardage, the D was 65th/89th. The O was 33rd/48th.

Was that good enough? No. Was it 'just as bad'? Only if your command of English (or perhaps math) is deeply flawed.

j.w.

Powell has had plenty of time to rehearse a good come back for the feed my family line. We're talking about the SEC, cheating is an artfrom there and in that league if you're not doing it, you're not trying. Even Vandy is starting to get on board.

86Cane

When Powell twitted that he decommited to FL because he had to feed his family. Isn't that a clear indication that he took money to flip?

thnx Rock..so Tim's allegiance isn't as strong to the U as his cousin who has no choice what school he attends lol..

Da U N Houston, even if Ice does come, I still don't see us taking Bethel back... especially since JC Jackson is interested. And who knows, we may get a commitment from Patrick Porter this weekend, I actually like Him better than Bethel.

And honestly, I think we pulled Bethel's offer.

Da U N Houston

HA, you guys must have never been to Lubbock!!!!! They probably paid him in "Feed" LMAO!!!!!!

And I am sure Tenn. has longer pockets than TT, but O Well. Just wondering! Thanks

Ohio_Cane

Bethel isn't being paid lol

RCCF

so let me get this straight:

Tim Irvin is the nephew and he plays in FLHS
Michael Irvin Jr. the son plays in TXHS
Tim and Michael were never on the same team? or did Tim move to FL?

RCCF

30CINCO

Gotta drive his family

CaneSawMassacre

Bethel isn't getting money from TT.. He might get some perks at the school but we are not talking about A&M here guys..

Just a meddling Big 12 program..

He might get a "car or a school job" but he isn't getting duffle bag money there.

CaneSawMassacre

Question Da U.. Do we want him back now?

I do... but the coaches may not be as forgiving (stupid I know)..

Most people thought he was overrated as is.. (don't kill me)
1. Undersized
2. relied on speed too much for instinct\
3. Speed didn't correlate for lack of instinct ( not 4.3 or quick change of direction guy)
4. Didn't show elite cover abilityy against the best or excellent leadership.

Given all that.
I still want him. Because I'm not sold on this DB class and I hate letting a kid from BTW go anywhere but here.. Yet, like you said. Something smelled fishy...

And I hope it is JC Jackson walking into the back door.

30CINCO

Gotta feed his family

Da U N Houston

And their D was worst than ours!

Ohio_Cane

Bethel is gone. We've moved on.

Da U N Houston

Dumb question I know, but for the recruiting guru's and folks on the inside. Is it a done deal with N. Bethel II? Just can't see him going to TTU. Lubbock? It just doesn't make any sense!!!

1. He is the highest ranked player in their class.
2. There is no other Florida player in their class.
3. There is only 1, yes 1 player on their roster from the state of Florida????

Something doesn't add up. So again is he "Gone"?

Tim "Ice" Harris is a class act. He has a great family and he is very very respected in the Miami community. The kids love him as a coach and a mentor. It would be nice to have him back at the U.

Da U N Houston

We NEED Gus to force the coaches to give him carries. I have to admit he got better as the season went along, similar to Coley (though Coley is light years better). If Gus is not better I truely think that will be on coaching b/c you can see that the kid wants to get better. He was just so big in highschool that coaches seem to never taught him how to lower his pads. But to that defense he should've been redshirted but we couldn't afford to.

Da U N Houston

I feel you CR, and completely agree. I think D'No was/is over his head. I really hope AG would take more ownership (not just saying it but doing it) of the D. Shoot, give Barrow a shot at calling the plays. I really believe in our DB's and we should be much better with TH3, Artie, Crawford, and Gunter. That is a very good group there who has improved as they are comfrotable. The safties will be much better. I like Carter to push Jenkins as a headhunter.

They must find a way to beat one on one matchups up front. I am hoping with 15-20 lbs added on AQM that he can be an everydown player, he beats his man. AND PLEASE leave McCord in the game. That dude just flat out makes plays when he's in there. Hopefully he is READY!

I am going to get some flack, but S. Green was just not atheletic enough to beat anyone. He was great at setting the edge, but that's it. We NEED to win the one on one battles and we are not doing that!

CaneSawMassacre

how many do you dial up?

I'm not defending anybody..I watched every game like everybody else.

Do you dial up more in the Louisville game? After you were holding them to field goals?

Because I saw what Strong did to our offense and I was perplexed.. and mad. Can we not be that creative, but I had to go back and look and see that it was our offense that killed us that game.

Our D stymied the Heisman hopeful as long as you would have expected.

The funny thing is. . . Everybody expected Teddy to carve us up.

Yet, nobody talks about how our O played Houdini.. We all said. We need the O to score. Our D was balling in the first half. Our O could have blown Zeus himself and we still wouldn't have sniffed a first down.

Its all about understanding.

I'm not satisified with no D, but I have more reasoning than most.

And anybody that is willing to give Coley (a friend of a friend) the pass has to step back and check themself.

Morris - decline (and I want to make something perfectly clear. Yes, Miami should maintain a pro-style offense, but if you don't have a scrambling QB or a dominant running game aka BAMA then you are not a collegiate team. It makes no sense. Even before Morris got hurt. He is fast enough to get 6 yars by running. Dumbest things I've ever seen trying to turn him into a pocket QB only).
WR - ok ( but weird route progressions)
RB - ok (Duke was over and inappropriately utilized)
OL - solid ( but again goes back to QB)

30CINCO

Sure. Improved to 89th in total D, and 65th in scoring D. Before the year 2011, would ANY of us have thought of those as anything other than horrible rankings for a Miami defense?

Posted by: dj moonbat | January 27, 2014 at 01:16 PM

They must of wrote that before we actually started playing decent teams lol.. to say the D was "much improved" showed they didnt actually watch lol

Posted by: UMike | January 27, 2014 at 01:28 PM

---------------------------------------------
They could be talking about the PA/G improving from 30.5 in 2012 to 26.8 in 2013. Or maybe the defense giving up less yards per game from 486.4 in 2012 to 426.4 in 2013. Still bad, but improvement non the less. But hey, it's not me saying it, it's them.

CaneRock

And again, for the life of me, how can somebody that coached in a state with Dick Lebeau, and Jim Johnson, have such an AVERAGE! blitz package. It's RIDICULOUS! how transparent we look, you can see us blitzing from a MILE AWAY!

raizecane

...how many blitzes did He dial up?

Posted by: CaneRock | January 27, 2014 at 03:55 PM

******************************************

I am guessing a lot but you have to excecute to be successful. And we failed in that area.

CaneRock

I agree with ya'll on the O.

But still, what did Duh'Onofrexcuses do exactly, to change the tides of those games. How many chances did He take...how many blitzes did He dial up?

CaneSawMassacre

I want to make this straight too. I'm neither a Golden apologist or hater.

I would have moved forward if he left.

And I'm not completely satisfied with his coaching, but....

I find some of your conversations arrogant.

CaneSawMassacre

You can say all you want about D, but I remember quite perfectly everybody saying we would need our offense to win vs top opponents. Funny enough we had a chance versus all of those top quality oppenents...

Down 21-14 at half to FSU
Down by 31-30 to Duke

But still the funny thing is.. despite how horrible our D is, our O was just as bad.

Good info

CaneSawMassacre

Da U n Houston...

Speak the truth.

Everybody wants to blast the the D.. Fairly enough. But anyboyd including the incredulous OGV, who watches football knows, Our offense set us up terribly.. All year.

I can't imagine a team worst on converting third downs. We sustained very few drives.

I told Soup our passing game was shot once Dorsett went down. Nobdoy cared to hear, but he was the only real threat to stretch a defense and make them respect you.

Then DB's started creeping up.

Duke gets injured.

Then we have no real threat through the backfield.

But even before that. How many three and outs was this team having???

And the real question comes to this....(Like soup said) Did Morris digress that badly? Was Morris that injured? Or did offensive coaching take 10 steps back and not two?

86Cane

Go Canes...It was a spammer from another blog. I deleted it and blocked them. Hatred runs deep "over there".

Go Canes

That's not me above, for whatever that's worth.

Really good info Da U. One of those three posessions of more than 5 plays was due to an unsportsmanlike penalty when we missed a 3rd down. That was the drive Morris fumbled in the red zone.

Lot's of work to do. Need our staff to close strong to bring in much needed help.

Da U N Houston

I know its easy to bash on the D, but do realize that after we lost Duke and Dorsett, how many 3 and outs we had. Of course the D gave up a lot of points and yards, they were on the field ALL the time. Even after turnovers, our O would go 3 and out! How many 3 and shorts did we have to punt? No matter how great your D is, no D is going play the WHOLE game with no breather:

VT - VT had 26 first downs, Miami 12 (3-12 for third downs)
Mia: 13 possessions (Miami with ball)
1. 2 play = 81 yds TD
2. Fumble
3. Fumble
4. 6 plays = Punt
5. 4 plays = loss on Downs
6. 9 plays = 77 yds TD
7. 3 plays = punt
8. 3 plays = punt
9. 3 plays = punt
10. 10 plays = 54 yds fieldgoal
11. 2 plays = 77yd TD
12. 3 plays = punt
13. 9 plays = end of game

And Against UL we had the ball for 11 possesions, and we only had 3, yes 3 possessions where we had more than 5 plays!!

Find me one team with an offensive production that bad in keeping the chains moving and I will show you a team who's Defense did worst that ours.

Look at the whole picture folks. Yes the D was not stout, but the O was part of the problem!

Maybe the defense can't stop the same plays over and over and over again because the NCAA cloud was so thick they couldn't see the formations?

Now that made me LOL!

Maybe it wasn't the NCAA cloud but the one from all of the States that are legalizing marijuana that got carried by the Jetstream and drifted over the 305?

Can I get an AMEN from the congregation!

BUT just because there is a T/O should not mean an automatic score.

Yeah SOUP! In the coaching world, that's what you call..."Sudden Change"!

Go Canes

I'm none of the above. I didn't say the offense turned it over did I?

Did you read what was under that too? Our offense did nothing that entire game as well.

We were plauged by turnovers, the offense did nothing and the defense played terrible.

What is so confusing about that?

86Cane

VT had to gain a total of 120 yds on offense to get 4 touchdowns.

Yeah that's not good and I agree that we need improvement on both sides of the ball and that the O did not help the D nearly enough. U are correct the blame goes both ways and there is plenty to go around, NOT just on D.

BUT just because there is a T/O should not mean an automatic score. The UM D could have held VT to a FG or got a T/O of their own or sacked the QB and made them punt but THAT never happened.

But how about this year instead of blaming our team (players AND coaches) for failing so badly how about we just shame the OTHER team and go out there and whoop dey azz so badly they go crying on home to Mama?

Yeah, how about THAT plan?
