While most of the college sports world focuses on National Signing Day 2014, we have our focus on a few other sports that are happening and happen to actually matter at this time of the year.
In February, we will celebrate the month that brings us Valentine's Day with some seriously naughty four play.
No, not the kind of foreplay that you may be thinking of, but the kind of clean and fun sports "four play" that brings you an incredible opportunity to support your Miami Hurricanes athletic teams in Coral Gables over a four day period:
- Baseball: UM vs FAU at 6 PM on 2/19/14.
- Basketball: UM vs ND at 9 PM on 2/19/14.
- Baseball: UM vs UF at 7 PM on 2/21/14.
- Basketball: UM vs BC at Noon on 2/22/14.
Canespace will be on hand and in force with several bloggers who will be in attendance at these events and we hope that many more of you will join us for this exciting gathering of 'Canes fans.
We will also meet and celebrate before and after the games at The Titanic Brewery near Mark Light Field. The Titanic offers great food selections, delicious cold frosty beverages and good times to all who choose to attend this special four day sports extravaganza.
So that leaves only one question: "Are U with us or are U against us?"
First in Debary and in my wifes heart

"Miami offers a middle schooler
2018 DB Tyreke Johnson from Jacksonville Trinity Christian picked up an #LSU and #Miami offer today. Johnson is still in middle school.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I know it's not the worst, but knowing it's from us... good grief.
Why not start offering fetuses? Or better yet, the forthcoming offspring of a fetus... or a grandchild of a fetus...
...I just made myself insane, and it's all your fault.

Manny:
"I can never fault Miami for the way they've recruited Travonte," Tunsil said. "They did a great job recruiting him. I could never complain about that. They’ve been on him hard. They had the defensive coordinator, the d-line coach, the head coach over here. Overall, I think they could recruit our school better. But as far as Travonte, they’ve done great."

I'd respond, but my current state of "mind-blown" can't allow it. All I have the ability to say is "please" and "thank you."

Big article in the NYTimes over the weekend on girls college sports. Apparently exceptional athletes are so few that competition is intense. Girls are routinely offered and have even chosen a college by the time they enter high school.

“We were Oregon before Oregon was Oregon. We want to be BACK on the cutting edge.” — Chris Freet (@ChrisFreet) October 25, 2013 Freet was then implored by a fan to leave the current Miami Hurricanes football helmets alone in any potential change.
About this statement WW I believe our AD Blake James that made those comments...and he sealed it with "whatever they do don't touch that U"...James feels our uni's are old and tired and they don't represent where we stand he wants them to pop like Oregon Uni's and be the Best things going because we are the Best Program Going.. I Love It!!

Forgot where I read it, but I read somewhere where they say most bball players come from middle class homes. I believe it...basketball (and baseball) are becoming more expensive to play. About the only NON-snobbish sports in HS nowadays, are wrestling & football.

It's pretty tough to knock this staff recruiting-wise. They dropped the ball on DL and LBs last year, but last year especially was a year where the NCAA business really hurt. And even amid all the negative recruiting, we've managed to keep/flip some incredible players (here I'm thinking of Duke and Stacy Coley), guys who have talent as good as just about any that Miami's had.
To get more of those jaw-dropping talents, though, Miami needs to convince those guys that they will be winning big before they graduate. And so Miami needs to be able to win the occasional game against a good team, now, with the talent it has. If Miami can only ever beat bad teams, Miami will keep failing to haul in the really elite local players.

BTW will have their signing ceremony at 9:00 on NSD, so we will know early if there are any suprises.... Good or bad

This post from CIS is kinda long, but talks about what has happened in the past in terms of South Florida recruiting.
" After reading all 12-13 pages of "the Work" thread I really felt compelled to say something to some of yall. Especially to certain cats in particular. First off, I would say about 95% of you actually know nothing about how much we FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED miserably in regards to South Florida recruiting in the Dennis and Butch eras. You want to talk to me about losing top talent in So Fla YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT??..Go ask Dennis and Butch about that. You think Al is bad?..Let me take you on a little walk down memory lane..
Go ask Butch about Rickey Sealey (LB out of Miami High) and how he played us in 95' cuz his mama wanted his sorry a$$ brother Norris to play with him so they went to Aub. Go ask about Marquand Manual (UF) and Clevan Thomas (FSU). Go ask about Martavious Houston (AUB). Go ask about Derrick Gibson (FSU), James Colzie (FSU), Sean Key (FSU), Rock Preston (FSU), Lawrence Wright (UF), Corey Simon (FSU), Zack and Henri Crockett (FSU), Samari Rolle (FSU), Troy Saunders (FSU) , Khalid Abdullah (FSU), Snoop Minnis (FSU), Bradley Jennings (FSU) AND ON AND ON AND ON..Remember losing WR Billy Brown out of St Thomas back in 1995 to FSU?! I could literally write an entire thread about the top talent that we lost IN SOUTH FLORIDA ALONE to FSU/UF/AUB year in and out back in the mid 90s and early 00s. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
And if you know anything about recruiting you would know that everyone I just named were NATIONALLY recruited guys. Everyone wanted them. No diamond in the roughs here. And rival schools walked right in Dade and Broward County and TOOK... THEM.... ALL.
And what did Butch do? Did he cry and whine about the $hit after COUNTLESS FAILURES that at the time seemed like it would ruin our program and we would NEVER get back to prominence? NO. He used his knowledge, and everything that Jimmy taught him about eyeing talent and went out there and formed the greatest collection of talent in NCAA history. ONE THING we all can agree on is that AL is in the top 5 as far as best recruiters in the country and has an eye for talent. (It remains to be seen if he can develop that talent like Jimmy and Butch could)
I dont understand some of you guys..FRANCHISE, I thought you was an OG. I know this aint your first time at the rodeo. What are you doing? We been thru HELLA battles like this. This aint new stuff. Back in 95', when Sedrick Irvin straight PLAYED us and went to MSU..Did Butch fold? Naw playa..He just went out and got Dyral McMillan and supplemented him with some little known kid named Edgerrin James. KEPT IT MOVING..
ERNIE MCCRACKEN, you named ONE YEAR that we pulled that off. (getting most of the talent in Dade) Here I will help you..we did it only THREE MORE TIMES in the last 20 years! (05, 08, 98-99) Its like you forgot back in 98' when Bryce Bishop and Anquan Boldin straight left us at the alter..What did Butch do? Oh he just replaced them with two kids named Vernon Carey and Andre Johnson AND KEPT IT MOVING.
TP801, come on dude. How you gonna sit back and totally trash the class AND the work that Al has put in KNOWING that this class could be the one to bring our defense back to prominence. You really want me to bring my point home? Go look at FSUs 1998 recruiting class! (dont get me started on their class in 1993) You talk about coming into SoFla and turning $hit upside down?! But guess what? The next two UM classes (Jerome McDougle, Andrew Williams, DJ Williams, Jon Vilma, etc) built the foundation for a great DEFENSE that FSU couldnt do nothing with EVEN WITH all those 4 and 5 stars from Dade.
Whats my point? If Dalvin Cook doesnt want to join us..Fine, PETE, you let him know I got two lil' homeboys named Juwon Young and Darrion Owens who are gonna come see him for the next 3 years and wont be backing down either! Johnnie Dixon and Ermon Lane think they would be better served elsewhere? PETE, you tell them I said that Artie Burns, Corn Elder, and Jamal Carter are gonna be diggin in that a$$ EVERY TIME they come across that middle!
Stop all the whining. I get it..We want EVERYONE! (que GIF) But we got what the F we came here for. Great pass rushers, a great QB, a great RB and a cornerstone at DT.
And thats that! "

i'm over it fellas. i'm done with this TV nonsense. yeah, golden screwed us with his whole PSU stunt, but this is the U. kids come to the U, not the frigging coach. we have not kept one championship winning coach. not one! everyone has talked to him. hes talking about how hes made a connection with the FL players @ LSU and he has not been able to do that with Miami? then why does he go to Miami all the time to hang out with the players there? hes talking about the few players on LSU. u cant compare that to a school with 70% FL players, in Miami, FL, close to his high school. he reeks of that nasty disease, premadona-titis. even his high school coach said Miami has done a good job with recruiting him. when u start going against the U when the U has been good to you, you go to that dark place between my anus and a hole in the ground. we solved our O linemen issues. we are certain to solve our D tackle issues eventually. Its all about the U!!!
