I hate to say that I told you so, but as it turns out, I most definitely told U so.
Miami Hurricanes head football coach Al Golden released a statement Sunday, reaffirming his commitment to the University of Miami:
"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15."
I said several times over the last few days that Al Golden was NOT leaving the University of Miami for his alma mater of Penn State University.
I said all along that the Penn State job was just a case of, and a situation that led to, a bunch of rumors, lies and speculation.
In fact I even wrote a lengthy article with that same title. And, of course once again, I was proven to be correct and 100% right.
With UM head coach Al Golden announcing today that he was staying at "The U" and was looking forward to closing out the 2014 recruiting class strong we all felt a sense a relief. The collective "WE" were the fans, players, coaches and maybe most importantly the recruits on the hook for the 2014 class.
And we like that. Yeah, we like that a lot.

4 Real...Yes, everyone should listen to you and your "399,999" friends instead of the four All Americans I just posted that can't wait to play for him.
So let me ask you this. Since according to you Golden is so bad, why are the brothers of TWO current players, both of which are All World and can go to ANY school in America, still picking UM?

I love it! Go Canes!

Are we gonna be staying at our normal spot at the Hampton this upcoming season. I know I already will be coming for the FSU, UNC, Pitt, Duke games. Go Canes! As far as road games gonna do the GT and Louisville games.

Soup, you might want to spend an additional "t". "Penn Sate" sounds like a dish you'd order at a Thai restaurant LOL
Posted by: VfB_Cane | January 05, 2014 at 07:00 PM
Go Canes, are you a Miami Hurricane fan or just an Al Golden fan? Had he left 4 Penn st would u have followed? Once again what were these kids suppose 2 say while still committed 2 Miami?
Posted by: 4-Real | January 05, 2014 at 07:04 PM
We'll he stays! Hope we can now locked down these recruits especially Valentine!! I know this is crazy question be is No-d going to be back to?

Well, I plan on listening to the Joe Rose interview online in the morning. (6:30am?)
Probably just a bunch of "softball" questions, but who knows, maybe something interesting will be revealed…

Joe, FORCE THE ISSUE… PLEASE!
Posted by: roachcane77 | January 05, 2014 at 07:12 PM
Roach come on you and me both know that's not happening.
Posted by: Pbcfrcane13 | January 05, 2014 at 07:16 PM
I am a Canes fan and a Golden fan.
And if Golden left I would still root for him but never before my own team.
For the record your comment, as it did last time, makes absolutely no sense.
No one forced them to be committed. If they didn't trust, believe in and respect coach Golden, if their own flesh and blood who actually go to UM RIGHT NOW and are coached by him spoke badly of him, they'd just go somewhere else wouldn't they?
Posted by: Go Canes | January 05, 2014 at 07:31 PM
Go Canes, could it be possible those kids committed to Miami, especially McDermott who gets to play with his brother his senior year? Better yet, how many current players are singing praises 2 Golden?
Posted by: 4-Real | January 05, 2014 at 07:38 PM
Do you still root 4 Coker & Shannon Go Canes? Afterall, they ARE responsible 4 Miami's last NC! Golden not so much.
Posted by: 4-Real | January 05, 2014 at 07:40 PM
No it's not possible.
That response also made NO sense.
IF the coach is so bad, as you say, do you REALLY THINK Linder and McDermott would want their brothers here?
Posted by: Go Canes | January 05, 2014 at 07:46 PM
I do root for Shannon. He is a lifetime Cane who unfortunately was completely over his head as coach here.
I supported him his entire time here, only acknowledging a change was need after he took an extremely talented 2010 team and ran it into the ground.

AL IS GOLDEN (TONIGHT)
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE U (ALWAYS)

Chad Thomas tweeted that he committed 2 Miami, not the coach. Did you notice these kids you mentioned didn't tweet til after the fact? Just like everyone else they were taking the WAIT-N-C approach. Now that its official that Golden will remain the coach its only natural they praise Golden if they plan on being Canes right? What are they suppose 2 say? I really wish he would have left?!!!
Posted by: 4-Real | January 05, 2014 at 08:03 PM
Ok. I get to keep my Hurricane Club money. Oh well.
Posted by: CGNC | January 05, 2014 at 08:03 PM
Tim Reynolds @ByTimReynolds 2h
So imagine this potential recruiting pitch from Al Golden: "I could have gone home, to my alma mater, my dream job. And I'm still at Miami."
Posted by: SOUP | January 05, 2014 at 08:06 PM
What I can't understand is how some fans are happy golden is back and act like he did nothing wrong. It's blatantly obvious many ppl are golden fans first um fan second. Seriously if your gf told you that she was commited in the long run but at the first sign that her hs crush is single she bounces for the weekend has a fling and comes back and says I'm commited would you accept her with open arms? Esp when she's not even all that she claims to be. Seriously it's like golden is placed on such a high pedestal by some it's like hero worship and the man can do no wrong.
Posted by: jsy | January 05, 2014 at 08:06 PM
After UM posted Golden’s statement, incoming recruit Braxton Berrios wrote on Twitter: “WE ALL STAND WITH THE U!! It’s a canes thing, you guys just wouldn’t understand.”
Cassandra Mitchell, the mother of UM star running back Duke Johnson, said when she “heard the news, I texted Coach Golden and told him, ‘Thank you.’ It shows stability and a commitment to the team.”
Incoming offensive lineman Kc McDermott, a four-star recruit from Palm Beach Central and the younger brother of UM center Shane McDermott, was thrilled Golden is staying, according to his dad, Randy. He reports to Coral Gables to begin his college career on Wednesday.
“Like I said before, we love Al Golden and we love his wife Kelly,’’ Randy McDermott said. “Kc is very happy.”
Miami Booker T. Washington High defensive end Chad Thomas said he first began hearing rumors about Golden possibly heading to Penn State when he played in the Under Armour All-American game earlier this week.
“I called Coach and asked him what was going on,” said Thomas, widely considered UM’s top defensive recruit.
“Coach [Jethro] Franklin, [Micheal] Barrow and Golden told me to just concentrate on the things I could handle and things would work out.”

Go Canes, do you honestly believe that Linder, McDermott, and the rest of our committs would have followed Golden 2 PSU had he got the job? Just what I thought.

I hope golden proves his commitment to the u by cutting dno. That way he can improve on the field and prove that the u comes before personal ties and that nothing and no one is bigger that the program. The u is not psu where one man defines the program. The u is unique bc the program is and will always be bigger than one person and I hope al sees that

Maybe Golden belongs to the dark side and was sent out by Penn State to destroy the U. The meeting at the university was a pep session and a promise if he was successful he would become the coach and have his own statue put up were Jo Pas used to be.

FROM SUN SENTINEL:
For three years, Golden has looked like a great coach, sounded like a great coach and carried himself like a great coach right up to kickoff. Again: You want to see more at that point now.
The real question about Golden's flirtation with Penn State was if the timing was best for a change. Did Golden need something Miami couldn't offer, and Miami want one of its coaching alums on the market like Greg Schiano or Rob Chudzinski?
We'll never know if Golden was offered the Penn State job. But this past week was unusual by Miami standards where coaches thinking of leaving went to something bigger.
Jimmy Johnson to Dallas, Dennis Erickson to Seattle, Butch Davis to Cleveland. Those were undeniably better jobs for more money.
Penn State isn't a better job. Golden seemed to decide that in the end. Now he can go about improving a program that needs improving. Something wasn't quite right for Miami last season, even if you recognize it took a progressive step forward with nine wins and a bowl appearance.
The bowl game against Louisville, in which they looked like a kid lost in the mall, showed how far they still have to go. The defense was a sieve all season. Was that just players? Was it coaching, too?
"We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week," Golden said Sunday.

It may be a subconscious wish of goldens. I find it interesting that he would be in such denial about the defense.
Posted by: mi@mic@ne | January 05, 2014 at 08:29 PM
With Golden attempting to go to PSU, the UM Board should NOT have taken him back & kept pursuing our next HC - he's on my Sh!t List.
We're his Plan B
Golden better be on a short leash or we will continue with this sub-par BS!
F' the Turds!
ACC Championship or bust next year for starters!
Posted by: Keoki | January 05, 2014 at 08:29 PM
For the record, I'm very relieved that Golden is returning. I'll save most of my vile for PSU who IMO thought they could come in and snatch Golden away just because he came from there. He's turned them downed twice now so may they never darken our doorstep again. As for Golden, he needs to finish strong with this class and let his buddy D'Onofrio go find other employment. He lost a lot of fan support this week and those are the only things that will win the fans back Go Canes!
