I hate to say that I told you so, but as it turns out, I most definitely told U so.
Miami Hurricanes head football coach Al Golden released a statement Sunday, reaffirming his commitment to the University of Miami:
"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15."
I said several times over the last few days that Al Golden was NOT leaving the University of Miami for his alma mater of Penn State University.
I said all along that the Penn State job was just a case of, and a situation that led to, a bunch of rumors, lies and speculation.
In fact I even wrote a lengthy article with that same title. And, of course once again, I was proven to be correct and 100% right.
With UM head coach Al Golden announcing today that he was staying at "The U" and was looking forward to closing out the 2014 recruiting class strong we all felt a sense a relief. The collective "WE" were the fans, players, coaches and maybe most importantly the recruits on the hook for the 2014 class.
And we like that. Yeah, we like that a lot.
Firing No'D and going back to the 4-3 and playing more man to man will not be difficult at all for these kids...
Umike, Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't man to man all they play in the streets and parks of south florida?
Our D'coord or lack thereof sucks so lets all just accept that, the sooner the better. This way we can move on to talking about something else lol.

We have had plenty of 4-Star guys commit, but nothing elite since Wilfork.
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:16 AM
YUP!
And we haven't had an elite TE since Shockey & Winslow...this Lenius kid is CERTAINLY! not any of the aforementioned's second comings...AT ALL!
Posted by: CaneRock | January 06, 2014 at 11:24 AM
Did LB write that other article?? lol.. Good info.. Go Canes, did you read it?
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:24 AM
UpNorth.. yes, we really never played with a line, just one guy covering he QB and rushing... was always man to man, and non-stop talking lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:25 AM
UpNorth.. when I play some games with guys up here (TN) there are like 2-3 guys blocking an rushing...was the first I ever saw it in street ball lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:27 AM
Anyone know this guy?
"Fire Golden, he a traitor! How dare he think about anyone else! Hire Butch, he wants to come back!" lol
AND.....before you hurt yourself into thinking I don't like Butch, look at my prior post about Butch.

I just think the "process" needs to have some red marks in it. It's somewhat flawed. This defense that Al himself loves will not work. I'm all for bigger LB that can cover and hit but it seems like he is doing his best to lose games with the defensive scheme. I was hoping for him to go because he won't fire anybody. We have a safety coaching our running backs ? Why did duke not properly know how to hold on to the ball in the open field nor in traffic ? Clinton taught him that ? Why can't Gas lower his pads all season ? Why can't we have more than. I can't root for fsu I like jimbos plan. We can only hope and trust Al knows what he's doing for the sake of the program.

Just imaginable if D'No stays throughout Goldens current contract.. that is 6... more years of D'No lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:33 AM
Blood in the water is just referring to D'No . He knows not what he is doing. Look at all teams that run the 3-4 in professional and college. They have a true nose . We don't have that. True linebackers.. we can't even recruit those.
Miami starts out the season giving up 500 again it's a done deal for ol Marky
Posted by: laquinton | January 06, 2014 at 11:34 AM
lmao leave it to (TN) to have blockers and rushers.
So this whole notion of setting our D back because were changing the philosophy and firing a DC is bull, these kids know man to man they know how to be aggressive and in your face. All this zone stuff is passive and soft as hell mayne.
12%er but goddammit Golden please provide your BFF that pink slip.
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 06, 2014 at 11:34 AM
Go Canes is the Happy Program in the Matrix, I guess he has taken too many of those blue pills
Posted by: SinisterCane | January 06, 2014 at 11:37 AM
Offensive player with a defensive philosophy, the FAIL starts right there
Posted by: SinisterCane | January 06, 2014 at 11:42 AM
At the current pace were going our defense is on pace to give up a whooping 6000 yards or more next season.
How did I get that number? well simple 12 games x 500 yards (avg for our D)= 6000 yards. That's not even including the National Championship game that we win(LMAO Umike, that's wishful thinking I know)
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 06, 2014 at 11:43 AM
I've been amused by all the chatter lately. I didn't think Golden would leave, but interview at other places to leverage a higher salary. I don't blame the man.
It would be highly illogical to take another rebuilding job at Penn State/Texas, infuse your "core values," rehire, re-recruit, and reestablish yourself. If it's not the NFL or getting fired, Golden stays.
As for recruiting, who cares? Until they sign and show up on campus, they aren't Canes. So until NSD and into early signees, count me out.
If D'Onofrio doesn't get the axe, consider me out of the Golden fan pool and into pure neutral territory. D'Onofrio sucks on a legendary scale, and we've all provided evidence to it.
Posted by: LB | January 06, 2014 at 11:45 AM
D'No, doesnt suck, his D sucks because the NCAA mess..didnt you know that? lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:47 AM
Mark can give up 500 yards and 30 points all year and Al's not firing him. He will point to some statistic that shows how we've improved. Then he'll blame the talent (players) or Coley. See, Golden doesn't understand what we do. That a defense can win games. That it can be dominant to a point where the other team just quits. And you can forget about the admin doing anything. Just make it to bowl games and be nice to the media and alums. We will be putting up with these 7,8,9 win seasons until 2020 folks. This is Penn State football.

Sinister I believe in giving Golden the same chance Randy, Butch, Coker and Jimmy got.
Nothing more, nothing less.
The funny thing is guys like you will be firing the next coach the moment he doesn't win as much as your expert eye thinks we shoud.
Posted by: Go Canes | January 06, 2014 at 11:48 AM
Man.. I cant get that line out of my head "upward trend".. the worst defense in the ACC is on an upward trend lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:50 AM
Go Canes.. you believe in anything Al Golden related lol.. I bet you believe the D is on an upward trend too lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:52 AM
"Upward trend" meaning it will be giving "up" more yards Umike. Golden was honest lol
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 06, 2014 at 11:53 AM
I didnt think of that...our right..we gave up more yards as the season went on lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:54 AM

Golden own words when he arrived the program was a train wreck but that train wreck had a top 25 defense
Posted by: Sinistercane | January 06, 2014 at 11:57 AM
UpNorth,
You are brilliant. It finally makes sense. I can see the upward trend now. Lol, Golden is even lying to himself.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 06, 2014 at 11:58 AM
IF Al was to release D'No, then what's to say he doesn't bring in another D'No-clone & we have the same or worse results?
Posted by: Keoki | January 06, 2014 at 11:59 AM
Golden may very well be the man for the job, but he HAS to see that D'No is holding his process back.
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:59 AM
Keoki, Im not sure who could be worse. I mean, we are last in the ACC so if anything it says the same lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 11:59 AM
If you don't think this program was a raging dumpster fire a month after Golden got here then something is really, really wrong.
Posted by: Go Canes | January 06, 2014 at 12:00 PM

Here's your trending up defense under Alverage Slogan, head in the sand for four years fans.

Go Canes, if you don't think our D is currently a raging dumpster fire, something is really, really wrong haha
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 12:03 PM
Coach Golden is a good dude man, who really did a good job carrying us through the NCAA mess (im not talking about performances on the field). His downfall will be his BFF. Its plain and simple, the writing is on the wall, and the stats are there to prove it.
I'll keep rooting for my CANES day in day out. and I will pray every night that golden sees the light and fires D'NO!!!
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 06, 2014 at 12:03 PM
Keoki,
I think a lot of the fire D'Onofrio stuff means fire the scheme, bring in someone who knows what they're doing. Befoe last weekend many wanted Golden to run the program and let his coordinators run their schemes. Because Al's 3-4 is the worst defense in America. That's a fact no one can debate, unless they're blind Al Golden jock sniffers.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 06, 2014 at 12:05 PM
Go Canes I like your optimism man I really do, and I see a lot of me in your posts. unfortunately what happened this year with our defense and especially that Lousiville game performance will forever haunt me until D'NO is fired. I have faith and will always be a 12%er but my will is being tested lol.
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 06, 2014 at 12:06 PM
I wonder if Golden and D'no think yhey can do it because they had mild success at Temple against lesser teams?
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 12:07 PM
That's exactly what they think UMike.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 06, 2014 at 12:08 PM
I HOPED he would hit one out of the park with Joe Rose today. Instead, he fouled out to 3B, never really thought he would be so tone deaf. He is definitely more Yaz than Big Papi. Fortunately he's got one more at bat today to get it right.
Posted by: j.w. | January 06, 2014 at 12:10 PM
Up north did you see what the offense did in that game?
Does that haunt you too?
Posted by: Go Canes | January 06, 2014 at 12:14 PM
Go Canes.. I am with you there and I have said it plenty of times Coley needs work also. But the D has got worse over years, and with players returning. Coley is in his first year and lost his best players. STILL, no reason for the O to be that bad with time to prepare. Its scary to lose 1 player and the whole O wen to shyt lol
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 12:16 PM
Love when people who claim to be Hurricane football fans insult the program to edify the worst coach in its modern history without any sense of irony or self reflection.
Then they go and find tweets talking about how awesome FSU is and post them on here, again without any sense of irony or self reflection, while claiming to support Hurricane football in an attempt to engender their idolatry of the worst coach in modern UM football history to others.
All while claiming to support Hurricane football when asking for the same chance as longtime or lifelong Hurricane coaches and players who won championships before they were head coaches because they engage in idol worship of a guy who demanded a contract from the school he played for in college that wasn't UM and got laughed at while they denied him.
All without irony or self-reflection. It's like they're being willfully ignorant or something . . .

Louisville;
http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22
#1 total defense in the nation.
They win games stopping good offenses, like I told the CEO before the bowl game as I finished my beverages.
(Go to page three to find the trending upwards Hurricanes if you buy lemons from used car salesmen who can't get a contract from where they played in college when they demand one be offered in exchange for a blue and white cover edition of a joke of a 300 page bundle of toilet paper substitute. Or continue with willful ignorance, makes no difference to me in the long run . . .)
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | January 06, 2014 at 12:20 PM
And I for the life of me don't understand my lack of desire to fire everyone and start over for the third time in less than a decade makes me such an "optimist".
The fire Golden crowd is the same group that wanted Coker fired, then Randy and after Golden it will be the next guy.
Oh sorry, we were going to hire Chud or Schiano to come save the day right?
No wait, Charlie Strong was going to spurn Texas, leave Louisville and come here.
No I'm sorry, Richt was going to leave Georgia because he needs a change.
Now I got it, it was going to be Butch!
Please.
Posted by: Go Canes | January 06, 2014 at 12:20 PM
OGV, let's just accept the mediocrity. Try this: Hey we made a bowl game, that's pretty good by our new Penn State standards.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | January 06, 2014 at 12:20 PM
Try ceasing with willful ignorance and you'll begin to understand.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | January 06, 2014 at 12:21 PM
The Dude, there's not enough White Russian's in the world that makes Alverage Slogan football entertaining or acceptable, unless you're willfully ignorant to the disgraces to the legacy of the University of Miami stemming from what you see on display during it.
49-49. But some don't understand thanks to willful ignorance.

2 years from now, we will remember last weekend as the weekend we should have hired Butch Davis.

Go Canes..you don't think at the very least D'No should be let go?
Posted by: UMike | January 06, 2014 at 12:27 PM
For the sake of recruiting I am pleased AG is back. However he insulted my intelligence and wallet with the BS stats he gave. Man up and say he interviewed with his dream school, the team has not been well coached however this incoming class will bring about change in the coaches and on the playing field. He took the bytch route!
Posted by: Canesteeler | January 06, 2014 at 12:27 PM
Go Canes, if you look at my previous posts I have criticized the offense also. I even went as far as to say that we lost the game against Louisville because our offense was terrible. But that is one game out of 13 my man.
All year long I criticized our 3 and outs and the terrible play of Morris. But sorry if I don't call for Coley to get fired after his first year, he deserves one more year to show improvement. NO'D on the other hand has had 3 years already.
We need to improve all around, that is for sure.

If U practice against DUMMIES then U believe the World Works Against Those that Aren't DUMMIES... ie the Offense thought they were going to be lights out because they practice against a CreamPuff Defense...Our Line is not challenged in practice because our DL doesnt challenge ppl on game days...Of Course Kehoe's boys wear them out but what happens on Saturday when REAL DL come in? We lack from within and it starts with the Coaches ie Excuse Makers...Never Will I Not be 12% but the Defense MUST Change Immediately..
