I hate to say that I told you so, but as it turns out, I most definitely told U so.
Miami Hurricanes head football coach Al Golden released a statement Sunday, reaffirming his commitment to the University of Miami:
"There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15."
I said several times over the last few days that Al Golden was NOT leaving the University of Miami for his alma mater of Penn State University.
I said all along that the Penn State job was just a case of, and a situation that led to, a bunch of rumors, lies and speculation.
In fact I even wrote a lengthy article with that same title. And, of course once again, I was proven to be correct and 100% right.
With UM head coach Al Golden announcing today that he was staying at "The U" and was looking forward to closing out the 2014 recruiting class strong we all felt a sense a relief. The collective "WE" were the fans, players, coaches and maybe most importantly the recruits on the hook for the 2014 class.
And we like that. Yeah, we like that a lot.

MCC98 knows some people, who think Butch couldn't coach when he was suffering from actual crippling sanctions instead of not being allowed to talk about a trumped up investigation and failing to win while doing so, who might go for that, but they're historically horrible judges of coaching acumen so they probably would be horrified to see the truth in the air. Pete Ariz:
Powell motivated to prove he's elite
There was a lot of uncertainty around the Miami football program over the past 72 hours regarding the future of Head Coach Al Golden and his interest in Penn State. The fans weren’t the only ones in the dark about Golden’s status at Miami though, as recruits were questioning whether he would return as well. Canes commit Brandon Powell was relieved when Golden released a statement that he would return.
“Yeah, I was worried he would leave. I was just waiting until something came out, but I tried not to think about it too much. I was real excited when he said he was going to stay because I’ll be down there in school in one more day,” said Powell.
The speedster out of Deerfield Beach will arrive on campus this week as an early enrollee.
“I’ll be there on Wednesday. I’m about to start college workouts, learn the playbook, and all that. So it’s about to get real. I need to go in and work. It really hasn't hit me yet, but it will when I start packing tomorrow.”
Powell has already heard stories about the difficulty of the offseason workout plan at Miami.
“When I went there on my visit, I was with Tracy Howard, Deon Bush, and Malcolm Lewis and they were telling me about the UTough workouts and how that made them almost want to quit football. I’ve been working out with my trainer who has been pushing me since the third grade so I’ll just have to push through.”
Although Powell has the ability to play multiple positions at the next level, he projects himself as a running back.
“I see myself at running back, but I’m a very versatile player. I can line up at the slot or catch the ball out of the backfield. I see myself as a running back though, because that’s what they recruited me as and that’s what I want to play.”
Powell had an incredible season with 1339 rushing yards and 20 TDs, but for some reason seems to be a forgotten member of Miami’s class.
“It motivated me a lot. I really wasn’t paying attention about all that talk about Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cook because even if they would have came, I would compete still. It still motivated me that people don’t think I’m one of the elite running backs around. I’m just going to go in there and work hard to show people why I’m going to the University of Miami.”

Cgnc find me one post where I "adore" Golden or anyone else.
Unless pointing out everything we've been through has negatively impacted this program tremendously and thinking this staff deserves the same amount of time previous coaches have gotten is "adoration".

Negative Nancy's jumping ship?
Hardly. UM has some really good players, but the amount of suck that is a Mark D'Onofrio defense can't be overstated.
As long as D'Onofrio remains, there will be at least two games a year the team will lose on account of the defense.

I'm afraid next year will give us more continuity than we can handle.

Highlights from Al Golden’s news conference from Monday afternoon:
### He said there won’t be any changes to the coaching staff. As we reported, UM never asked him to dump Mark D’Onofrio, and Golden had no intention of doing it. He said “the answer is not change, the answer is continuity.”
He clearly trusts this staff and wants to see what the staff does with a team that is adding a high-end recruiting class.
“First year without the NCAA cloud,” he said. “There’s a big part of me that wants that, that hasn’t experienced that…. We have an experienced group, mature group coming back. I look at my depth in the spring [with] the first team. We’re a lot deeper. I like the symmetry we have.”

False equivalence;
False equivalence is a logical fallacy where there appears to be a logical equivalence between two opposing arguments, but when in fact there is none. Journalists use a form of this logical fallacy when comparing two sides of a scientific debate in an attempt to provide a balance between a scientific and denialist point of view. However, there is no equivalence between the two sides, when one is supported by evidence, and the other side with little or no evidence, of which most is of low quality. In other words, in false equivalence, someone will state that the opposing arguments have a passing similarity in support, when, on close examination, there is large difference between the quality of evidence.
The staff being supported now is not as accomplished as the staffs that were previously supported and in some cases, received less or unequal support by administration on down the line.
But willful ignorance, the blog just never can get enough of.

Powell would be a monster on a defense that lets him man up and shadow tight. unfortunately that's not our defense.
Either way glad to have the kid, he's def a baller and will put in work.

What?!?! You're insinuating that we didn't have any talent/production at DT? No no that can't be right. Robinson, Renfrow, and Porter were amazing!! Of course, when they got pushed back 5 yards when the other team ran the ball (nearly every time), that was all D'NO's fault. We should fire him because he hasn't developed a scheme that stops opposing offenses while having DTs that get blown off the ball every play.
Posted by: TLuv | January 06, 2014 at 02:27 PM
Explain to The Herb how is length supposed to make this defense better, when it's the sorry ass coaching and schemes, that holds it back.
What style of offense do we run? I still haven't figured that one out. I can say, it's the telegraphed version. No backs in the back field, hey we are passing. Line up in the "I" formation we are running, lineup with one back, it's 50/50 pass or run. Line-up under center it's run.
