Rion Brown scored 19 points to help Miami beat North Carolina 63-57 on Wednesday night, giving the Hurricanes their first Atlantic Coast Conference win while dropping the Tar Heels to 0-2 in the league.
Erik Swoope added a career-high 14 points for the Hurricanes (9-6, 1-2 ACC), who took control late in the first half and led by 13 points after the break against the cold-shooting Tar Heels (10-5, 0-2).
Miami was coming off a tough 49-44 loss at No. 2 Syracuse over the weekend, a game in which the favored Orange didn't score the go-ahead basket until the 4:16 mark. This time, the Hurricanes grinded their way to a win, twice turning away modest rallies from a suddenly reeling UNC team.
James Michael McAdoo scored 12 points for North Carolina, which was coming off a 73-67 loss at Wake Forest in one of its worst performances of the season.
Noteworthy
Erik Swoope had a career high 14 points, surpassing his previous career high of 13 against Pepperdine in 2010
Tonye Jekiri set a new career high with 10 rebounds. His previous high was nine against St. Francis on 11/8/13
Tonight’s starters were Reed, Brown, Kirk, Adams Kelly. This starting five is now 6-3 when put together
Donnavan Kirk started the game off with a three-pointer, breaking the Tar Heels 8-0 run to begin the game
After starting the game with an 8-point deficit, Miami reeled off a 10-0 run to garner their first lead of the game.
Miami led by as many as 14 Wednesday night in a game that included seven lead-changes
Miami extends its winning streak against North Carolina to 4
Miami won their first ACC game of the 2013-14 season
Rion Brown recorded his second double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Miami limited North Carolina to 31 percent shooting from the field and 24 percent shooting from beyond the arc

ESPN reporting that Penn State has made an offer to Franklin who will accept or reject today.
Nice article on the mens BB team. Nice win for the boys in orange and green.

If Franklins stay put, expect PED U to accept AL w/NOFENSE
Posted by: SinisterCane | January 09, 2014 at 08:55 AM
So I guess that UNC did not have enough talent on the floor last night?
Posted by: SOUP | January 09, 2014 at 08:56 AM
Tony or OGV...can you please compare UNC and UM bb players and recruiting classes?
Posted by: SOUP | January 09, 2014 at 09:00 AM
Talent is less relevant in college basketball as compared to college football. We are not talking about the NBA were having the best player automatically makes you one of (if not the best) best teams.
But nobody is saying Larranga isn't schematically better than Golden at this point.
Coach L has been a head coach far longer than Golden.
Hopefully some of his abilities/techniques rub off.

I think it is safe to say UNC has more individual talent.
Question: is Coach L a better coach than R. Williams?
Posted by: 30CINCO | January 09, 2014 at 09:23 AM
Guess Gruden isn't coming to Coral Gables his lil bro just got hired to be the head coach for the Washington Redskins :-(... here I though John Gruden was still an option. lol
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | January 09, 2014 at 09:29 AM
40 minutes of L baby!. Good job Canes! Thanks Soup for posting this. I enjoyed every minute of the game. Lets continue to see this team scrap and claw their ways to victory and try to make the tournament again. Their length is exceptional and going to that matchup zone was huge for this team in this game and going forward. Rion Brown is and will have to continue to lead this team to success and what can I say about Coach L dude is money! Love that guy!

Great win by the Canes last night
Posted by: SinisterCane | January 09, 2014 at 10:16 AM
Coach L is better. Williams had the benefit of sitting next to Dean Smith on a bench, which helps everyone, but Phil Ford.
Posted by: trianglecane | January 09, 2014 at 10:17 AM
Guess this does not matter because if they left fsu would just plug in a clone just as good or better...

Coach L is an amazing teacher, basically Tom Izzo minus the big time recruits.
Really wish he would have had Shane just one more season.

Geez, I wish this would end for crying out loud!!! ESPN is reporting Franklin has not been offered the job yet.

At least there is a few of us that care about more than the football team. Go Canes! Cant wait to see this team and the baseball team for the Canes Four Play in 5 weeks.

If D'No goes.. so does Hersey D'Nawforlo. Our outstanding 5'11" 295 corner prospect, who can also plug the 0 and 1.

Well ESPN reporting Franklin to PSU. It was fun while it lasted. I'll support the current regime as much as is warranted.
The silver lining in this "process" that occurred this week when Al offered his services to PSU is that he seems to have accelerated the clock that he will be judged by.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | January 09, 2014 at 12:49 PM
IDK RCF kid is pretty salty about the whole UM offer being as an athlete and not for QB. Has been talking about his butt buddies cook and lane.
Either way UM dropped the ball on this one offering so late in the game should've done it earlier and dealt with any issues after.

U are becoming very wise young Samurai.
Samurai (侍?), usually referred to in Japanese as bushi (武士?, [bu͍ꜜ.ɕi̥]) or buke (武家?), were the military nobility of medieval and early-modern Japan. According to translator William Scott Wilson: "In Chinese, the character 侍 was originally a verb meaning to wait upon or accompany persons in the upper ranks of society, and this is also true of the original term in Japanese, saburau. In both countries the terms were nominalized to mean "those who serve in close attendance to the nobility," the pronunciation in Japanese changing to saburai.
By the end of the 12th century, samurai became almost entirely synonymous with bushi, and the word was closely associated with the middle and upper echelons of the warrior class. The samurai followed a set of rules that came to be known as bushidō.

Heard it on the broadcast that the plan was to have Manu learn under Shane for atleast 1 year. Would have been big for his development. I cannot believe Manu is only 17, playing against men at times, impressive.

Find it hard to believe the offer they just randomly offered Harris as a QB recently.
Maybe the kid really wants to be here. He's the only one who can say anything so we have no idea what's been said between him and the coaches.
