Yup, it was just a matter of time. Siiiigh.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It was just a matter of time, before Strong/Hurtt started reaching their tentacles into SF...siiiiiigh.

CaneRock

Lookin' at UT's commitment list, dem jokers ain't got to go NOOOOOOOOWHERE their recruits. We bat .250 on Collins Yearby,Michel, & Cook, and we're done...while UT can bat the same % outta 100 RBs, and that would be considered a BONANZA! for US!

Randy Shannon was right, GEOGRAPHICALLY, it's HARD! to recruit SF!

Dude on a Pale Horse

CR, I'm pretty sure Hurtt is still at Louisville. Not that it matters to me. We don't need Valentine with our new standards. We can get blown out in bowl games with or without him. #pennstatemiamicampus

Anyone see he two Florida commits (Clark & Willis) going back and forth with each other on Twitter? lol

Mike Smith is a hard commit

First it’s Miami (1/17), then Arkansas (1/24), and finally Louisville (1/31). But if anybody has a chance to lure him away, it’s probably the Razorbacks.

- says “I like how the coaches are at Arkansas and Coach Randy Shannon is a cool guy,” “He has put a bunch of guys in the league and he could do the same thing with me. We’ve been talking a lot since around the beginning of my season. I knew of him before but I didn’t know him personally until then.”

-has been on Miami’s campus enough times to know what he should expect. However, he has a very specific objective in mind for this weekend’s visit.

-says “One thing I want to get done this weekend is talking to the coaches about the defensive scheme,” “The type of stuff that they tried to run really didn’t fit the type of guys they had. We haven’t got into it yet but it will be nice to find out about how they’re using me and stuff like that.”

-If it seems like Smith is second guessing his decision, he shot that idea down immediately. He said he feels just as good about the Hurricanes as he ever did.

-says “I’m still a hard commit, I keep in touch with everybody down there,” “If Coach Golden would have left, I understand that he’s doing what’s best for his career. It’s not like I was going to turn around and decommit. They’re not worried about me and they don’t have a reason to be.”

-explained what it means for him to stay local.

- says “I’m taking the chance to keep it here and turn my hometown program around,” “I want to stay close to my family so that’s going to be nice. We’re bringing fresh talent in and I hope a lot of guys stay on board with this class. We can make a run if people don’t jump at other schools.”

-he is dealing with a knee injury but not a torn ACL as had been rumored. It’s just a sprain and he said it won’t hold him back by time he arrives at Miami.

2015 4-Star WR Tavares Martin a Miami target w/ offer) is transferring from John I to Dwyer.... guess we can cross him off our board lol

c### Fort Worth-based Daniel Gresham, rated the nation’s 38th-best running back by rivals.com, was told by Louisville’s new coaching staff on Sunday night that he’s not in their plans. Gresham has visited UM and was interested in the Canes before committing to Louisville.

His coach said Monday that he would again be interested in UM (along with Arkansas and Texas) if Miami reaches out.

Meanwhile, Canesport.com reported that the coach at Salinas (Cal.) Hartwell Community College was told that running back Deandre Mann can expect a Miami offer. Mann, who backed up Lamar Miller at Killian, ran for 1706 yards and 30 touchdowns last season and has nine offers, including Kansas and Purdue.

With Brandon Powell flipping to UF, Miami Central High’s four-star prospect Joseph Yearby is the only running back in UM’s class.

Great research again by TonyCane.

So after evaluating the talent level (star level) we've had since 2006, is it safe to say that Golden has won just as much with LESS talent?

UMike

We’re almost two weeks into 2014, and 23 days away from National Signing Day on Feb. 5.

If you’ve missed anything related to college football recruiting and its ties to South Florida this year, here’s a recap before things get crazier as the dead period ends on Wednesday:

It’s been a rough start for UM in 2014 to say the least.

Early enrollee Braxton Berrios from Leesville Road High in Raleigh, NC, wrote on his Twitter account Friday he has suffered a torn ACL, which he played on during the Under Armour All-America game in St. Petersburg on Jan. 2.

“Ya know the funny thing about my TD in the All American game? I did it with a Torn ACL...God has a plan,” the wide receiver wrote before deleting the post.

No further updates regarding Berrios’ injury or a timetable for his return have been given by the school.

While Berrios is already enrolled, one early enrollee decided to go elsewhere on Friday.

Deerfield Beach running back Brandon Powell, who was supposed to enroll at UM on Wednesday, decommitted from the school and enrolled at the University of Florida on Friday. Powell’s decommitment became the third for the Canes in a week, joining Nigel Bethel and Travonte Valentine.

Bethel, a cornerback from Miami Booker T. Washington said he knew for ‘about two months” he wanted to flip from UM, to Texas Tech.

As for Valentine, the All-American defensive tackle from Hialeah Champagnat Catholic, he decommitted after participating in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in San Antonio in the midst of rumors linking Canes coach Al Golden to the Penn State coaching job. Valentine’s coach Mike Tunsil said Valentine would like to have a sit down with Golden to “make sure everyone is on the same page” before deciding to commit again.

Some pleasant news for UM: Miami Central coach Roland Smith said his Under Armour All-America players Joseph Yearby and Trevor Darling should be enrolled at UM “any day now.”

Yearby, rated a four-star running back who committed to UM in February, has been recovering from a broken fibula and expects to be ready when the Canes begin spring practice.

Darling, rated a four-star offensive tackle, has been committed to UM since April.

“They’re still enrolling,” Smith said. “Everything is in and they’ll be fine.”

If you need a little more everlasting reassurance Canes fans, check out what Berrios and Booker T. defensive end Chad Thomas said after watching UM’s loss to Louisville in the Russell Athletic Bowl while in Orlando practicing for the Under Armour game.

“In our minds, we said we’ll do what we got to do to make a better program,” Thomas said.

Added Berrios: “We want to win. We want to bring back that tradition to winning 10, 11, 12 games a season is normal.”

FSU/UF update

Central running back Dalvin Cook enrolled into Florida State this week, effectively ending his recruitment saga. If you missed any of it, check it out here.

FSU won the final BCS National Championship on Jan. 6, and even got a head start on its 2015 recruiting class as Central safety Calvin Brewton [you defnitely want to read the comments an FSU coach had here] and Miramar cornerback Tyrek Cole committed to play for the Seminoles on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

While the Gators landed Powell, and five-star cornerback Jalen Tabor from Washington, DC Friendship Academy last week, it also lost out on two key commitments in Ermon Lane and Chris Lammons.

Lane, the Homestead wide receiver ranked the second best at his position in the country by ESPN, decommitted from Florida on Friday.

No Hard Feelings But I Just Decommitted From The University Of Florida . Not Because Dalvin Cook. No lie I love gator nation. #OneLove
— Support #⃣5⃣Jwalk (@_MoneyLane) January 10, 2014

Lane, who’s close friends with Cook, is set to make an official visit to FSU on Jan. 31 and announce his final decision on Signing Day.

As for Lammons, who is close friends with UF cornerback commit Quincy Wilson from University School, his decision to decommit from Florida came Thursday night. Wilson had a nice comment regarding Lane after the Under Armour game. If you remember, Lane, Wilson and Lammons all announced their commitments to the Gators on Aug. 12, 2013.

Here’s Lammons’ Twitter post from Thursday:

No I Did Not Decommit Because Of Jalen Tabor Commitment I Decommited To Put Myself In A Better Position .
— Chris Lammons (@Lammons_1) January 10, 2014

Wisconsin and South Carolina will be major players for Lammons’ services. Lammons originally wanted to commit to South Carolina in July before committing to Florida, but the Gamecocks told him they didn’t have enough room to add another defensive back.

Another quick note regarding the Gators: Plantation American Heritage speedster Isaiah McKenzie announced a top five of UF, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Oregon on Sunday night. McKenzie announced his desire to commit to Notre Dame in October, but did not have a qualifying ACT score for the Irish to accept his pledge. He has opened his recruitment back up, but still has a desire to attend Notre Dame.

Other local prospects

--Miramar High will dominate this portion of the update.

When head coach Damon Cogdell decided to leave the school to join the coaching staff at his alma mater West Virginia, it didn’t take long for three of his junior prospects to want to follow him. Wide receiver Khalil Lewis, running back Alex Anderson and cornerback Kendrell McFadden all pledged to West Virginia last week.

Miramar senior safety Andre Godfrey, however, committed to Utah on Thursday.

--With Charlie Strong leaving Louisville for Texas, Cardinal Gibbons WR George Rushing looking elsewhere.

Lurker

Get your facts straight. Hurtt is still at Louisville, and we never had Cook, he was never coming to Miami. That's ok though, make stuff up to get your point across.

Golden has won just as much with LESS talent?

Posted by: 30CINCO | January 14, 2014 at 08:53 AM

Let's seeeeee here...Golden had Benjamin,Byrd,Dorsett,Hurns,James,Miller,Streeter,Washington on offense...and Armstrong,Buchanon,Forston,Spence,Verson on defense...and Golden won one LESS game than Shannon the year before. So since you take Golden's word for everything, why didn't you take Golden's word for it, when He said we had enough talent to beat Maryland...hmmmmm?

UMike

Golden said that one of the reasons he didnt make a change at the DC spot was this solid class coming in.... now if the D has bad numbers again next year, will his excuse be that they played so many young players? That was the excuse after the 2012 season, but when all those young guys came back more experiences and bigger/stronger, the D didnt improve. So now he is waiting to see how the next crop of young guys do? Seems like a cycle lol

UMike

With the schedule and players we had this year, BTW's or St. Thomas' coaching staffs could of won 9-10 games this year at Miami lol

Didn't know FAU played ANYONE worth mentioning besides us and Auburn? We played 3 cupcakes. They played 10.

If strength of schedule can be used to diminish the "gains" the defense made and bash D'No and UM, it can be used to defend it, too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the defense, it was pitiful. I'm saying comparing it to FAU isn't legitimate since they played a FAR easier schedule than us.

This would be 100% wrong.

SOS
2013 - 44
2006 - 60
1997 - 80

I could continue, but I will stop there

SinisterCane

Regardless the FAU defensive staff improved their defense, Chickillo has been in this system for 3 years and he was deemed a talented player coming in and balled out his freshman yr., what happen?
