Ricky Town is a Trojan.

j.w.

Only caught part of the bball game, we played a little better than expected, I guess. I'm still not seeing it with LeComte (sp?), yeah, he's young, but so is everyone in college basketball, and he is our starter. Looking forward to seeing our new group next year.

Terrance Sullivan

Great blogging today peeps. keep calm and Cane on.

86Cane

Rock...I really appreciate U as a blogger and what U bring to Canespace. U do try to contribute a lot to the blog and are alway ON.

There are SOME times that I wish U didn't have to go all Mano-a-Mano with other bloggers and call people out or pick fights, but hey if that is what motivates U then I guess we will have to accept that.

Now if U wanna pick on UMike ALL DAY LONG then that's cool too. LOL

Wilson spent thousands last summer taking his eldest son, Quincy, a four-star defensive back at University School, on official recruiting trips to USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Note Dame, South Carolina and Tennessee before he finally committed to the Florida Gators in August.

“The reason you are seeing all these decommitments is because some kids are finally taking their official visits now and seeing schools and changing their minds,” Wilson said.

“It’s sad because the fan bases get on Twitter and get on the kids when in reality it’s just a flaw in the system. You speed things up and that’s what is happening.”

Barry Jackson:

###It’s a light weekend for UM recruiting visits, among seniors. Mobile (Ala.)-based Malik Rosier --- rated the nation’s 22nd-best dual purpose quarterback --- is visiting and is considered a solid UM oral commitment.

At least two others were expected this weekend: Three-star Georgia-based prospect Tavon Ross (who’s committed to Missouri) and three-star Jacksonville-based receiver Isaiah Ford, who’s uncommitted.

UM has interest in Ross as a running back, but Ross told Rivals.com that his commitment to Mizzou is “pretty solid.”

Ford, rated the nation’s No. 67 receiver, is considering Louisville, Virginia Tech,

UM, UF and South Carolina.
UM will host a bunch of juniors on Sunday.

That's 3 PWOs, I believe.
I wonder if that's our way around the 9 schollie reduction...

Walk-on: Any athlete who participates on an athletic team without an athletic scholarship is considered a walk-on. Walk-ons are not permitted to sign a National Letter of Intent. A "preferred walk-on" is assured a spot on the team, but the athlete is not offered a scholarship.

Coach L said Randy didn't like short dbs.

I'm just saying...

Posted by: Go Canes | January 25, 2014 at 09:47 PM

LMAO!

You probably believe that, too.

You believe ANYthing the UM coaches say, which ALSO makes you, laughably naïve...laughably gullible.

That comment about Coach L is laughably uninformed.

Posted by: Go Canes | January 25, 2014 at 05:09 PM

And you're laughably illiterate. Show me where 2002 said anything about "about Coach L".

86Cane

I was out all day so I missed the game but it seems now that I am glad I did.

Da U N Houston

Not a huge Morris fan, BUT the second pick was a timing route n the WR fell. If he kept his feet it would've been a completion and he would've gone out of bounce.

Even the first pic the DB cut in front of the WR. He (WR) needs to fight for position.

Keep it real!

TJL

Morris threw 2 picks-missed a wide open receiver on a 10 yard throw/no pressure
#65 & #77 each gave up a sack

Canesteeler

Da Pimp is coaching his ass off this season. The hoops team is very limited offensively however they are well coached and they play hard.

86Cane

Watching the senior bowl, it is beyond me how Stephen Morris was able to hold on to the starting job for so long.

Posted by: VfB_Cane | January 25, 2014 at 06:38 PM

I put that on the coaches. I think it is fair to say that this is one decision that we all have to question?

VfB_Cane

Watching the senior bowl, it is beyond me how Stephen Morris was able to hold on to the starting job for so long.
I sure hope the addition of Olsen and Kaaya results in a new level of competition.

4-Real

Frank Haith players? ^^^^^^^

Lurker

Laughably ignorant is more like it.

He must have forgotten this was against an undefeated number 2 team, with one of the best coaches and most talented lineups in college.

While Miami which lost all 5 starters and has a lineup that most coaches would not be able to squeeze 10 wins out of this seasons due to age and inexperience.

Just keeping our reputation for having an ignorant fan base

Maybe my knowledge of American geography is not as good as it should be, but why are our guys at the Senior Bowl playing for the "North" team?

Posted by: VfB_Cane | January 25, 2014 at 04:23 PM

Because they don't have a proper Southern drawl.

Lurker

You do realize Manu is just 17 yrs old and 3 months ago was playing kiddie ball in Belgium? What Coach L has done with this patchwork crew is nothing short of amazing.

Watch and learn

BASKETBALL COMMENTS:

Sorry, but I'm not believin' or buyin' what Coach L is sayin' and sellin' about Manu Lecomte and Tonye Jekiri.

Manu - 1/2 FG/FGA (TotPts = 3) in 20 minutes of play.
Tonye - 1/4 FG/FGA (TotPts = 3) in 27 minutes of play.

We need better production from these two starters, if we are going to make another run at the ACCC any time in the foreseeable future.

VfB_Cane

Maybe my knowledge of American geography is not as good as it should be, but why are our guys at the Senior Bowl playing for the "North" team?

CaneRock

I agree with TC, I'd rather have Gibson. Town's to slew-footed for me, I don't see any redeeming qualities with that kid.

CaneRock

Damn, for a kid that we never offered, we sure waited in anticipation for His announcement:

Greg Reid...

Its old skool but at least he put a UM hat on the table.

Posted by: bg1906 | February 03, 2009 at 06:36 PM

Reid has 1 visit left, I wish he was coming after signing day and then decide. But oooh well!

Posted by: bg1906 | February 03, 2009 at 06:37 PM

just based off the hat you know he ain't picking us. no one wants to take pictures in that hat.

> SCRATCH THEM FROM THE LIST: Receiver Andre Debose (sticking with UF, but visiting FSU this weekend), cornerback Greg Reid (consider UM nothing more than a flirtation, my people tell me he's headed to Florida State), linebacker Tana Patrick (no longer considering UM), linebacker Greg King (needs a test score and is likely headed to the SEC anyway) and tight end Billy Sanders (guess he's not going to take that last minute trip to UM after all).

4-Real

Joyner was once said 2 be a silent verbal to UM. Riddle me this...How many of you actually think RL3 will make a better db than Quincy Wilson?

dj moonbat

i see...

In an age where lots of WRs were still small guys themselves, small DBs were fine. These days, though, 5'11" is on the small side for a starting WR.

I would bend the rules for a guy with spectacular field awareness and ball skills (like Lamarcus Joyner), but in general, I would be trying to recruit guys 5'10" and up.

I haven't seen Bethel, or even heard that much about him, but unless somebody's going to tell me that his playmaking was, in fact, spectacular, I'd say that given the stated preference for average-or-above height DBs, we can let him decommit without feeling like we've blown it.

CR, do U just make stuff up?

Shannon didn't even OFFER Greg Reid, and I remember the entire fanbase being up in arms that we quick looking at Joyner because of size only.

CaneRock

"I guess he was making a counterpoint to the fact Shannon didn't like small dbs."

No, I was making a counterpoint, to the fact that Finnie had a JUVIE RECORD...maybe that's why Shannon didn't recruit Him. NOT saying that Shannon recruited choir boys (one of His recruits raped a co-ed), but it was known in quite a few circles, that Shannon had intel on the local kids.

And where did you read or hear that Shannon didn't like small DBs...He recruited Greg Reid & Lamarcus Joyner HARD!

86Cane

And when you offer 2 DBs from NJ, before the #3 CB for the C/O 2015 in YOUR OWN FRONT YARD!, you don't expect that kid to be honest when asked about UM.

Me too, me too.

4-Real

Anybody remembers #26 hit on Jason Whitten up in Knoxville? Classic!

4-Real

People are quick to say coaches hated Shannon but they can never give names. On the flipside I see coaches talk Golden " UP" all the time, yet they send their kids elsewhere. See Dwyer's Jack Daniels.

Go Canes

Shannon completely ignored certain schools. That's where the beef was with him. There were a ton of coaches who said his staff wouldn't come by, ever.

The funny thing about Bethel and his whole decommitment is he would never have gotten a look from Shannon. He didn't like small db's.

4-Real

So let me get this straight..... When Shannon refused 2 kiss up 2 these same sofla divas HE was burning bridges correct?

CaneRock

At the end of the day NJ has ballers also, so it is what it is, some these kids are divas (not all, but some) very few understand it's a business and that the schools have to do what's best for their squad.

I just wanna see the CANES win baby so idc...

Posted by: UpNorthCane | January 24, 2014 at 03:06 PM

UNC...NO!...DOUBT!

I don't have a problem with NJ kids. I've always thought that theirs untapped potential in the NY/NJ area.

Jay-Z said in a song..."And watch hoop dreams deflate, like a true fiends weight." Well, you take those kids with "deflated hoop dreams", you can make a pretty good football player out of most of em', I think. From what I hear, they don't really invest in the football infrastructure up that way...sad if it's true.

CaneRock

Because they ARE! There is a TON of evidence that shows it. To argue against it is just to argue for the sake of it. It gets old and boring: STOP IT!

Posted by: 86Cane | January 24, 2014 at 04:11 PM

SOUP, this is my last post on the subject. I asked O_C to show me evidence...to show me these "quotes of entitlement" from these "entitled SF athletes"...and He shows me "some fan's opinions on Bruce's comments" LMAO!

And when you offer 2 DBs from NJ, before the #3 CB for the C/O 2015 in YOUR OWN FRONT YARD!, you don't expect that kid to be honest when asked about UM... NO WONDER! we struck out on DBs for 2014!
