Sean Taylor was murdered on November 27, 2007. The former University of Miami and Washington Redskins superstar was shot with a single bullet and killed in his own home during a botched burglary attempt.
It took the legal system over six years to convict his killer, Eric Rivera, of second degree murder. Rivera, a cowardly, worthless thug, was finally sentenced on January 23, 2014 to 57.5 years in prison. He had to wait almost seven years for it, but Sean Taylor finally got his justice yesterday.
It is ironic that just a few days ago I had the opportunity to be in South Florida to attend the UM vs Duke basketball game. As is my tradition when I visit the 305 I take time out of my busy schedule to visit the grave sites of two very important people in my life: my mother and Sean Taylor.
Perhaps by chance, or maybe by fate, both of them happen to be buried a few football fields apart at the Woodlawn South cemetery located off of 117th avenue and 112 street in Kendall.
Sean Taylor is a Miami Hurricane football legend and my mother was always a huge fan of UM football. She worked at the UM medical campus for many years and loved watching games on TV, cheering the Hurricanes on to victory and even giving me a "high five" whenever the 'Canes scored.
It is always an emotional moment when I visit the cemetery to pay my respects to both of them. When I do have the chance to visit I have adopted the custom of pouring out some whisky at the grave sites in their honor.
You see my mother liked a sip of Jameson's Irish whiskey from time to time and I always hoped that Sean would also approve.
Even after all of this time, this visit was no different than the rest.
The tears and the whisky flowed.
And now that justice has been done for Sean, I pray that both of them may finally rest in peace.
CR, do U just make stuff up?
Shannon didn't even OFFER Greg Reid, and I remember the entire fanbase being up in arms that we quick looking at Joyner because of size only.

No problem Mr. 86. Especially because I'll never understand how a juvi record can make a db taller or shorter.

Want a direct quote from Randy if my word isn't good enough?
Randy Shannon: "Jaron Hosely is too short to play corner at Miami"
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | January 25, 2014 at 11:05 AM
i see...
In an age where lots of WRs were still small guys themselves, small DBs were fine. These days, though, 5'11" is on the small side for a starting WR.
I would bend the rules for a guy with spectacular field awareness and ball skills (like Lamarcus Joyner), but in general, I would be trying to recruit guys 5'10" and up.
I haven't seen Bethel, or even heard that much about him, but unless somebody's going to tell me that his playmaking was, in fact, spectacular, I'd say that given the stated preference for average-or-above height DBs, we can let him decommit without feeling like we've blown it.
Posted by: dj moonbat | January 25, 2014 at 11:12 AM
Joyner was once said 2 be a silent verbal to UM. Riddle me this...How many of you actually think RL3 will make a better db than Quincy Wilson?
Posted by: 4-Real | January 25, 2014 at 11:24 AM
> SCRATCH THEM FROM THE LIST: Receiver Andre Debose (sticking with UF, but visiting FSU this weekend), cornerback Greg Reid (consider UM nothing more than a flirtation, my people tell me he's headed to Florida State), linebacker Tana Patrick (no longer considering UM), linebacker Greg King (needs a test score and is likely headed to the SEC anyway) and tight end Billy Sanders (guess he's not going to take that last minute trip to UM after all).

I agree with TC, I'd rather have Gibson. Town's to slew-footed for me, I don't see any redeeming qualities with that kid.

Maybe my knowledge of American geography is not as good as it should be, but why are our guys at the Senior Bowl playing for the "North" team?
Posted by: VfB_Cane | January 25, 2014 at 04:23 PM
BASKETBALL COMMENTS:
Sorry, but I'm not believin' or buyin' what Coach L is sayin' and sellin' about Manu Lecomte and Tonye Jekiri.
Manu - 1/2 FG/FGA (TotPts = 3) in 20 minutes of play.
Tonye - 1/4 FG/FGA (TotPts = 3) in 27 minutes of play.
We need better production from these two starters, if we are going to make another run at the ACCC any time in the foreseeable future.
Posted by: 2002nemo | January 25, 2014 at 04:42 PM
You do realize Manu is just 17 yrs old and 3 months ago was playing kiddie ball in Belgium? What Coach L has done with this patchwork crew is nothing short of amazing.
Watch and learn

LOL - that sure makes sense.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | January 25, 2014 at 05:13 PM
Laughably ignorant is more like it.
He must have forgotten this was against an undefeated number 2 team, with one of the best coaches and most talented lineups in college.
While Miami which lost all 5 starters and has a lineup that most coaches would not be able to squeeze 10 wins out of this seasons due to age and inexperience.
Just keeping our reputation for having an ignorant fan base

Frank Haith players? ^^^^^^^

Watching the senior bowl, it is beyond me how Stephen Morris was able to hold on to the starting job for so long.
I sure hope the addition of Olsen and Kaaya results in a new level of competition.

I put that on the coaches. I think it is fair to say that this is one decision that we all have to question?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 25, 2014 at 06:56 PM
Da Pimp is coaching his ass off this season. The hoops team is very limited offensively however they are well coached and they play hard.
Posted by: Canesteeler | January 25, 2014 at 07:39 PM
Morris threw 2 picks-missed a wide open receiver on a 10 yard throw/no pressure
#65 & #77 each gave up a sack
Posted by: TJL | January 25, 2014 at 07:56 PM
Not a huge Morris fan, BUT the second pick was a timing route n the WR fell. If he kept his feet it would've been a completion and he would've gone out of bounce.
Even the first pic the DB cut in front of the WR. He (WR) needs to fight for position.
Keep it real!
