High expectations can lead to unrealized goals which often causes frustration and disappointment. Low expectations are often exceeded which leads to an increased sense of optimism and well being.
So it appears that the key to happiness is to simply lower your expectations, right? To simply just wake up, breathe some fresh air and be able to see one more beautiful sunrise should make you just as happy as you can be!
A small minority of Miami Hurricane football fans appear to have given up their hopes and dreams of ever fielding a National Championship team again.
It seems clear now that they have lowered their expectations to the point where winning nine games, losing to basketball schools like Duke and getting blown out by Louisville in a meaningless bowl game in some dank, old stadium somewhere in Orlando is just fine with them.
Oh, and forget about even having a chance to beat FSU. That is just crazy!
In fact, the fans with these low expectations not only fully expect and accept it to lose 3 or 4 games a season, they embrace and defend it with great passion. They are proud, progressive, modern thinking, current day college football fans. They are the new U who don't even know "The U".
These fans have set their expectations so low that it is basically impossible to be disappointed. What makes it so completely confusing to many is that they appear to be perfectly happy in their new found "safe zone".
Trust me, there is no coach, player or any real fan of any team that plans, predicts or wants to lose any game. However, after much thought and deliberation, I have decided to completely ignore them and join the "low expectation" crowd with great reluctance and trepidation.
So, I thought I would share my new "low expectation" goals for 2014:
- If Miami wins one game, any game,by one point, I will be happy.
- If at least some people show up for home games I will be happy.
- If Miami scores less than 10 points a game I will still be happy.
- If UM allows over 30 points a game I will also be happy.
- If Miami allows 500 yards a game on defense I will be happy.
- If the UM goes three-and-out on every possession I will be happy.
- If the sun shines during football games I will be hot and happy.
- If it rains like crazy during football games I will be wet and happy.
- In fact, I have decided that I will just be happy to be happy.
There, I feel so much better now. In fact, I am going to start a support group for people with low expectations. I think we will start all of our meetings by introducing ourselves like this:
"Hi, my name is ______________ I have low expectations and I feel happy!
jw, here U go:

Uhhhhh, NO!, "He hasn't already"...don't think He ever will.

BREAKING NEWS - EXPECTATIONS ARE LOWERED IN NOT-SO-HAPPY VALLEY. D'NO BEING CONSIDERED FOR THE PSU HEAD COACHING JOB.
According to a knowledgeable source on ESPN4, D'No, a fan favorite on the UM football coaching staff, was strongly recommended for the vacant PSU head coaching job by PSU alumnus, Al Golden, who said that "D'No has done a great job for us here at UM. Yes, we would hate to lose him. Nevertheless, I think it is a tribute to our program - and the success we've had the last few years, especially on defense - that Coach D'No is being mentioned for the Penn State head coaching job."
However, not everyone agrees. A caustic Canes fan, who goes by the moniker NOME, posted this comment on a Rivals-affiliated sports blog: "No one wants the Penn State coaching job. And no one wants Coach D'No. So, it's a PERFECT fit."
The twittersphere is trending with comments from top-rated recruits who are de-committing to UM because of "lack of stability" on the UM coaching staff and the potential loss of Coach D'No to Big Ten powerhouse Penn State. "I committed to the coach and not to the school," said one prized DT from Miami Southeastern High School. "If he goes, I go too."
In response, the editor of the popular Canespace blog posted this comment: "There IT is."
But the general consensus is that it is too soon to panic over the potential loss of Coach D'No. In the words of Canespace blogger RAT MAN, "If he leaves, we can always hire Butch Davis as our new DC."
In response the Canespace editor says:
"There IT is (again)!

I'm trying to figure out if this is just funny or downright hilarious, so do you mean the last time UM played UL or the last time UM played UL when they were coached by Petrino specifically?
Either way, Butch Davis is interested in the UM job. Blake James needs to be discussing the framework of that deal regardless of what Pederast State University does this week.

UM already has trouble paying a competitive salary. How are they going to pay Butch AND buy out Golden?
I love the idea, but once they signed Al until hell freezes over, it became prohibitively expensive to fire him. They just have to make him WANT to leave.

Posted by: dj moonbat | January 08, 2014 at 01:59 PM
That's why Blake needs to break up the little love nest from the Pederast State University dorms going on in the UM coaching staff building by firing outright the non-prohibitive DC coordinator from his contract to help nudge the other half of the relationship on north. Plus I keep saying this, the ACC just renegotiated the TV deal and cashed an extra BCS check before getting the payout from the Orange Bowl locked in yearly, the money is there despite the pleas of poverty to the contrary from UM, just have a bunch of spendthrifts trying to say otherwise in the hopes of . . . lowered expectations.

Canerock- missing the point. 1) he's a serial liar. he got fired because he lied about the accident, no tjust because he was cheating on his wife. Although he did lie to her about it, just like he liked to WKU, the Atlanta Falcons, Louisville in 2005, to the national media about inteviewing for the Auburn job in the middle of the season, etc. 2) He has proven that he isn't staying at Louisville if something bigger comes free (think Mississippi State as soon as Mullen gets the next job). 3) And half of Louisville doesn't want anything to do with him. Other than all of that, it's a great hire.

Great picture in that article of the sun on the water. Enjoying the beauty of a sunrise or sunset is being able to enjoy simple things in life to me, not really lowering expectations. I just want to see consistent good football from my college team which I haven't in a long time. I do see it when I watch some other teams play, especially some of these bowl games. We used to look like that.
I am a little further down the road than Canesteeler - but feel the same. Until things change for the better, I mean really better (could be under AG but doubtful to me) or someone else, entertainment shillings are spent elsewhere

Dno leaving would lose us 1-3 recruits. He's the lead recruiter on a couple and have said he's a main reason they're coming. I believe Kiy Hester was one of those. Dno and Golden reeled him in
