Anyone see his "I need to feed my family" tweet last night?

Recruiting is dirty, dirty, dirty...

Zach Abolverdi ‏@ZachAbolverdi 33m
BREAKING: RB Brandon Powell (@_Powellbp4) will enroll early at #UF per Deerfield Beach head coach Allen Jackson. #Gators

No dead period for the Gators??? And SEC money to Powell? Anyone knows if the NCAA still exists?

UMike

Thats 3, 4-Star players in a week. All local.

SinisterCane

Has Franklin signed with PSU yet?

CaneRock

"Wildcards"?

After Michel and Cook, Powell WAS! the "wildcard out there"...at least for us.

And if we lose Valentine, then that drops a GOOD DT haul, to AVERAGE!

UMike

A contract making Vanderbilt's James Franklin the next Penn State coach should be finalized and approved at a meeting of the school's newly formed compensation committee Saturday morning, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

Earlier Thursday, ESPN reported Franklin had agreed to accept an offer to become Penn State's coach.

The Penn State compensation committee is scheduled to meet in a closed session at 8:30 a.m. ET Saturday to discuss a "matter of compensation," PSU spokeswoman Lisa Powers said. She added that the person whose contract is being reviewed "has not been publicly identified at this time."

Sources told ESPN that individual is Franklin, who spent the past three seasons at Vanderbilt.

Powers said that following the meeting, a brief public session would be held at 9 a.m. The committee members are chair Linda B. Strumpf, Kathleen L. Casey, Mark H. Dambly, Karen B. Peetz and Paul H. Silvis.

Vanderbilt athletic director David Williams, meanwhile, told The Associated Press on Thursday night that he exchanged text messages with Franklin, and Franklin "basically said that he is our coach. He hasn't made a decision."

Williams earlier Thursday told The Associated Press that Franklin characterized reports that he had accepted a job offer as "inaccurate." Franklin technically would not officially accept the Penn State job until the contract was approved Saturday, a source told ESPN.

Franklin was given a contract extension in December 2012 designed to keep him at Vanderbilt for years to come. Asked whether the Commodores have worked to restructure Franklin's deal since the end of this past season, Williams said they have an ongoing process to remain competitive.

Penn State interim coach Larry Johnson said Thursday night that he hasn't been told anything about his future.

"I'm still the interim coach until a new coach is named," Johnson said. "As of right now, I'm continuing to do my part."

Sources said Franklin met with Penn State officials Wednesday night in Destin, Fla. He would succeed Bill O'Brien, who was introduced as coach of the Houston Texans last week after two seasons with the Nittany Lions.

Earlier this week, ESPN reported that Penn State's leading candidates were Franklin, Miami's Al Golden and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Shefter also reported that San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman interviewed with the committee.

UMike, it's funny...but at first the pro-Golden crowd said that Bethel was one of the 4-7 that would've bolted, if Golden bolted. Now they're saying it's because of grades, or He's too small. Where dey do dat at!

UMike

CR, we already lost Valentine. That Golden stuff is just an excuse. If he was worried about Golden leaving, he could of waited a day or two to see, but he jumped ship the first chance he got.

Powell is not a back up plan, kid is a legit 4-star player and Browards player of the year. There will be no "wild cards" or big additions from now until signing day. Jackson will either stay at Florida or flip to FSU which seems to be the thinking a the moment.

If we do gain anyone, it will be the plan C guys like Edgar Cerenord. Still a solid class, but not what it should/could of been. Bethel is pushing hard for D.Jackson to join him at TTU, and he now has a visit set.

Also, I will believe the Griffin news when it actually happens. We have heard "he is close" and "this month" for like 8 months now.

UMike

CR.. I know.. they got to find any reason besides this staff lol... For he record Bethel said on Twitter just days ago he was up to 180 lbs, but who cares he is FAST and knows how to cover and has great ball skills. Ask FSU how having those small DB's worked for them. Bethel NEVER had grade issues!

UMike

I think that lost to Louisville is starting to show its results. We win that game and we have a 10 win season, a bowl win and maybe more importantly, we show the local kids the home team can win. Instead all we did was show these local kids they can go to other schools and win big. We let a team full of Miami kids blow us out in a game played in Florida. And to top it off, their QB is a former Miami commit who might be he #1 draft pick.

Miami had the chance to bury all that, bu even with a month to prepare, they showed nothing.

Go Canes

Thinking we lost Powell because golden talked to penny state is silly.

There's something else going on there.

Grades or an envelope delivered to his house are my best two guesses.

Go Canes

If Powell cared so much about stability would he go to a team that went 4-8 with a coach that's another bad season away from getting fired??

UMike

I dont know if Golden flirting with Pedophile U had anything to do with it, but either way the staff didn't hold him.

CaneRock

NOBODY! said we lost Powell because Golden flirted with PSU. Powell doesn't want to come here, because He does NOT WANT TO PLAY CB! And how is it grades, if He's an EE!

Losing Powell to UF, is the reverse of losing UF losing Clinton Portis to us!

UMike

I sure hope we can get some RB's next year. If Walton can moved up to 2015 it would be huge. If Duke stays healthy next year, it could be his last year. And the only real talent behind him has never played a snap in a college game. So RB depth is a real issue... at least talented depth imo

LB

I just saw people in fist fights for water last night. The police are everywhere. Many of these same people tout the very industry (coal) that allowed the chemical spill and will more than probably not be held accountable.

It's such a weird time up here. I'm even reading recruiting news from you guys just to distract me from it all.

UMike

CR I agree. Powell is a play maker. They dont give the Broward player of the year to just any one. He is a legend in that area. Sometimes you lose out on more than just the talent of a player.

LB, you alright? Let us know if you need anything...

UMike

The only grade casualties in this class so far have been Stuckey and maybe Gray.

UMike

CR.. I second that...

SOUP

Think of the positives, maybe we add Harris?

Posted by: 30CINCO | January 10, 2014 at 01:15 AM

Yeah maybe that? ;-)

Or this wouldn't suck either:

@NashSports: Per @DerekTysonESPN, Plantation CB Chris Lammons has decommitted from Florida. #Gators

UMike

For those that think Miami doesnt need Florida players.... FSU just won a title with 66 kids from Florida on their roster. Every school that wins big keeps all their top local talent, while cherry picking talent from others areas to round it off. Alabama is a bit of an exception because they can now recruit nationally, but even they have 33 plays from "talent rich" Alabama on their roster lol

UMike

Lammons will end up a South Carolina I think...or Wisconsin.. they seem to be out in the lead at the moment for him.

SOUP

LB...if you can afford to might want to take a weekend away from the unrest and travel somewhere safe a few hours away by car where the water is clean and bring a few cases back with you for emergencies like this. You can go several days or a week without food but only a day or two without water! Or U could just drink beer? LOL

UMike

SOUP.. Im all good.. just pointing out some things... Im not mad any more lol

UpNorthCane27

Goddddammmmnn what in the world is going on in Coral Gables!! Losing Powell sucks tremendously kid is a beast. But I guess were going to have to wait it out and see what happens. I can't think of a Recruiting year filled with so many ups and downs man.

UpNorthCane27

At least Perryman is staying!! my boy will beast I feel it I feel it!!

Remember, with your new LOWER expectations just waking up and breathing for another day U should be completely satisfied. Anything else good that happens today is just GRAVY!

LB

"LB, you alright? Let us know if you need anything..."

For now, I think we're okay. It's extremely cool of you to ask and I'll absolutely keep you updated.

"Remember the 5 P's:

Prior

And I'm usually so organized, leave it to Soup to educate and bring me back to reality.

They're setting up distribution centers around here, but they say that this nonsense could go on for up to 10 days or more.

It's madness. People actually broke into my work and hauled off water in gallon jugs so the suits are royally ticked as we're already short.

It's not really relevant to Canes news, but I thought that if I can't be interesting I can at least be entertaining.

LB

I think Perryman from frustration alone should be all-world next year. It wouldn't surprise me if he hit the Butkus...

..."He's undersized."
"Dirty program."
"Al Golden's leaving."
"Bowl loss."
"Lost to Duke."

...blah, blah. If Kirby joins in the party, Barrow's corps will be interesting.

SOUP

LB...in Florida with Hurricane season threatening every year residents are trained (read WARNED) or advised to have a gallon of water for each person in their homes for at least five days. We always keep two cases of 6 gallons each and one case of 24 ea/16 oz drinking water bottles from June to November and then we use it up and replace it again the following year so we are used to that stuff.

Mark my words: There will be an actual war over water, not oil, in the next 10-15 years. And if the whole global sea level rise thingy actually happens and/or starts sooner than later then all bets are off!

LB

Excellent to know.

SOUP

Ok, folks just to reiterate the point:

From now to NSD we are going all positive all the time to support the 'Canes during the recruiting process.

@bigphatlee @flasportsbuzz Apparently UF offers a family meal plan with their scholly.

LB

I feel better about the next batch of UM's quarterbacks as the emphasis has been placed on accuracy over big plays and arm strength. These quarterbacks move to throw (R. Wilson, A. Luck), not move to run (M. Vick, T. Tebow).

UM has a stockpile of talent at receiver. If the tight ends get the appropriate number of targets along with a healthy Duke Johnson...

...interesting, yes?

LB

Heh. The $EC is offering PS4s, 60 inch TVs, stocks, a new home, and at least two jumps in economic classification.

It's amazing all the advancements we've made in technology and medicine, that we can't find a way to ELIMINATE! the combustible engine/energy...or at least that's what THEY lead us to believe.

LB, I'm not far from U, bro. Let me know if I can help. Short drive to come here and get water, food, shelter, etc. Anything U need.

Lurker

Perryman has not decided yet. That's a fact. Personally I hope he stays, but I thnk he'll declare for draft.

LB

"LB, I'm not far from U, bro. Let me know if I can help. Short drive to come here and get water, food, shelter, etc. Anything U need."

That's awesome of you to offer. If it gets hellish, I'll do that.

UMike

That is correct... Sutrel reported that Perryman has NOT made a decision yet.

My bad, apologies and I will try NOT to let that happen again.

UpNorthCane27

Dammit I thought he did decide.. Perryman needs to stay lol. We need some good news down there in Coral Gables.

CaneRock

^^^^^^^^^^^^^With our luck these last few days, Perryman might flip too LMAO!

UMike

I think to myself how is Florida still getting this recruits. Not only did they flip Powell in the last second, but they also flipped a 5-star DB. They had a 4 win season, BUT, their coach was smart enough to see their weakness (offense), and changed it. I do think normally continuity is good, but not if it isnt working. FSU revamped their whole staff and got better. Alabama is always losing coordinators and wins big.
