UM head coach Al Golden held his year ending press conference with the media today at the Hecht Athletic Center in Coral Gables.
Golden had a lot to say but rather than try to translate it into small sound bites I will let you listen to the entire event and then decide for yourself what the most important take-aways are.
Golden spoke about the team's defense, offense, talent, scheme, recruiting and the Penn State situation during the press conference. So, now I ask you this question: "What stood out for you?"

Thinking same exact thing.
Sometimes people want to hear only what they want. Golden said we had 5 explosive plays on D, someone said "Golden said we have an explosive defense!".

Dude-
He's lying?!
If one of those "explosive players" scores a TD of 30, 40, or 50 yards, what would you define that play as?

No, Alverage Slogan told his school that he wanted a contract he could sign presented to him that day, they laughed at his 300 page, blue and white cover copy of Deserve Victory and then told him to sit quietly like a good little Paterno worshiper and he came slinking back to UM.
Keep being willfully ignorant of that fact though Alverage Slogan fans, those tie printed tshirts will be collectable a year from now to remind people of the four year Golden Error at UM.

When mentioning the offense he provide last years numbers and then gave all these numbers "we need to be at" or "want to be at" but when talking on defense did he provide one number " we need to be at" or
" want to be at?" No, because he doesn't want to put that kind of pressure on his bff. Some of us remember his excuse filled propaganda speech.
Remember this gem on continuity from back in July;
"Defensively I know you wanted to make some changes this last year. What are the things you think need to change in order to get the defense where it needs to be?"
Golden's response:
"I think the biggest thing was to not change, was just to take all the young kids, the 14 or 15 freshmen we played over there and just to quiet their minds down, settle them down a little bit. I felt different about the defense in the spring – there was a calmness, they were communicating more. And then of course getting [defensive tackle] Curtis Porter back and then giving everybody another year in the weight room.
"[Linebacker] Denzel Perryman grew up on the stage for us, played at 208 and then 212. He’s 243 now. [Linebacker] Jimmy Gaines is 240. [Linebacker] Alex Figueroa is 238. [Defensive end] Anthony Chickillo is another guy who played for us at 45 and 50. He is now 275. So those kids had to grow up and were forced to play before they were ready. Now, they’re settled in, they know the system and we’re excited about who we have coming back on defense."
Golden tongue knows what he's doing and only the Al Golden fans can't see it.

No you're right, we were loaded with senior-laden talent on defense in 2012. There's no way those freshman and sophomore DBs blew the coverage. I'm sure after the game DNo decided to take the play called "leave the RB wide open" out of the playbook.

You put up "facts" that Golden threw Coley under the bus?
Golden saying "we need to be at" means he threw him under the bus? How? He's right. Our completion percentage and 3rd down conversion need to be better. I bet you any money Coley himself would say the exact same thing. Like I said, you're making something out of nothing.

Yes it was.
question for the al apologists/bagdad bob's on this blob. you talk about how golden saved us with the dark cloud of the ncaa --and i will credit him for guiding the program through the trouble. BUT, in the last 2 years, Al's record is 16-9. what was Bill o'briens record at Ped state? 15-9, 1 less win with much MUCH harsher sanctions than what we received. you will cite the uncertainty of the ncaa witch hunt --but psu had 4 bowl bams /ship reductions --hell players were allowed to leave without sitting out a year. he won 1 less game than Al and the gimp DC. and it was noted here that we've had top 20 recruiting classes during the ncaa mess. so it didn't seem to kill us in recruiting --i'll agree it hurt us.
I saw the No'D deniers quote Jordan Futch as saying No'D is a great coach and his scheme can work. I'll see your jordan futch and raise you an all-american / 1st round pick (p. Buchanon) or NFL'er eric winston or a LB on the greatest college LB crew ever (Darrin Smith) or another 1st round pick (duane starks) who have said this is garbage.
one last question for the propagandists employed by AL or No'D --if the talent isn't there to run the garbage scheme we are running now --Chip Kelly, who has acconplished a HELL of alot more in football than Al or No'D(bcs games, bowl wins, conf championships-- you know things we wish for now as cane fans) --said when he went to the eagles that he wasn't just going to bring a scheme he was going to fit his scheme to his players. a conference championship winning coach (BGSU) said the same thing. i know, i know --its bowling green --right and they have a freaking conf championship and we can hope to be them one day.
listening to that interview with joe --i lost 20 IQ points and 5 years off my life with the BS coming through the radio.

***file this under No'D deniers
I read that during the ncaa cloud we could get talent at rb(duke) at wr (coley) and even cb(t howard) but everyone knows that DT's won't commit to school under ncaa investigation. right everyone knows that --if everyone means absolutely no one believes that garabge.
thanks to the host of this site --made my day reading this at work instead of actually working

I posted that Al provided us with numbers of where "we want to be" in regards of the offense and refuse to do the same thing on the defense. I don't hear excuses given for the offense suffering due to depth, talent or size, only on the defensive side of the ball. Do you not notice that?
Why hasn't he stated " where we want to be" or "need to be" on defense. That requires accountability on that side of the ball which he has never displayed. Even when the question posed to him is about the defense he always makes it his business to bring up the offense. Do you not notice that?
I'm sure you don't.

"It played a big role for me," he said while in San Antonio. "They have a majority black coaching staff. That's a turn on for me. You can feel comfortable around them. I feel we can bond better."
