No, Alverage Slogan told his school that he wanted a contract he could sign presented to him that day, they laughed at his 300 page, blue and white cover copy of Deserve Victory and then told him to sit quietly like a good little Paterno worshiper and he came slinking back to UM.

Keep being willfully ignorant of that fact though Alverage Slogan fans, those tie printed tshirts will be collectable a year from now to remind people of the four year Golden Error at UM.

When mentioning the offense he provide last years numbers and then gave all these numbers "we need to be at" or "want to be at" but when talking on defense did he provide one number " we need to be at" or
" want to be at?" No, because he doesn't want to put that kind of pressure on his bff. Some of us remember his excuse filled propaganda speech.

Remember this gem on continuity from back in July;

"Defensively I know you wanted to make some changes this last year. What are the things you think need to change in order to get the defense where it needs to be?"

Golden's response:

"I think the biggest thing was to not change, was just to take all the young kids, the 14 or 15 freshmen we played over there and just to quiet their minds down, settle them down a little bit. I felt different about the defense in the spring – there was a calmness, they were communicating more. And then of course getting [defensive tackle] Curtis Porter back and then giving everybody another year in the weight room.

"[Linebacker] Denzel Perryman grew up on the stage for us, played at 208 and then 212. He’s 243 now. [Linebacker] Jimmy Gaines is 240. [Linebacker] Alex Figueroa is 238. [Defensive end] Anthony Chickillo is another guy who played for us at 45 and 50. He is now 275. So those kids had to grow up and were forced to play before they were ready. Now, they’re settled in, they know the system and we’re excited about who we have coming back on defense."

Golden tongue knows what he's doing and only the Al Golden fans can't see it.

Yes it was.
question for the al apologists/bagdad bob's on this blob. you talk about how golden saved us with the dark cloud of the ncaa --and i will credit him for guiding the program through the trouble. BUT, in the last 2 years, Al's record is 16-9. what was Bill o'briens record at Ped state? 15-9, 1 less win with much MUCH harsher sanctions than what we received. you will cite the uncertainty of the ncaa witch hunt --but psu had 4 bowl bams /ship reductions --hell players were allowed to leave without sitting out a year. he won 1 less game than Al and the gimp DC. and it was noted here that we've had top 20 recruiting classes during the ncaa mess. so it didn't seem to kill us in recruiting --i'll agree it hurt us.

I saw the No'D deniers quote Jordan Futch as saying No'D is a great coach and his scheme can work. I'll see your jordan futch and raise you an all-american / 1st round pick (p. Buchanon) or NFL'er eric winston or a LB on the greatest college LB crew ever (Darrin Smith) or another 1st round pick (duane starks) who have said this is garbage.

one last question for the propagandists employed by AL or No'D --if the talent isn't there to run the garbage scheme we are running now --Chip Kelly, who has acconplished a HELL of alot more in football than Al or No'D(bcs games, bowl wins, conf championships-- you know things we wish for now as cane fans) --said when he went to the eagles that he wasn't just going to bring a scheme he was going to fit his scheme to his players. a conference championship winning coach (BGSU) said the same thing. i know, i know --its bowling green --right and they have a freaking conf championship and we can hope to be them one day.

listening to that interview with joe --i lost 20 IQ points and 5 years off my life with the BS coming through the radio.

Posted by: bermuda triangle | January 06, 2014 at 12:42 PM

***file this under No'D deniers
I read that during the ncaa cloud we could get talent at rb(duke) at wr (coley) and even cb(t howard) but everyone knows that DT's won't commit to school under ncaa investigation. right everyone knows that --if everyone means absolutely no one believes that garabge.

I posted that Al provided us with numbers of where "we want to be" in regards of the offense and refuse to do the same thing on the defense. I don't hear excuses given for the offense suffering due to depth, talent or size, only on the defensive side of the ball. Do you not notice that?

Why hasn't he stated " where we want to be" or "need to be" on defense. That requires accountability on that side of the ball which he has never displayed. Even when the question posed to him is about the defense he always makes it his business to bring up the offense. Do you not notice that?

What I've gathered on DT Michael Whyche:

He's appealing to the NCAA because ACC rules state that he has to be at his JUCO school for 3 semesters to be able to transfer. He's been there for 2, so they're appealing it.

He's already signed to UM, so he's either coming this week (if appeal goes through) or in June (if appeal doesn't go through).

1. The first thing he said about the defense was "We are not where we want to be" and then repeated it time and time again. But of course that's not good enough for you. Had Joe Rose asked him to be more specific about things there's no doubt AG would have, he didn't "refuse" to do anything. He said the defense has to stop the run and that they have to get better on 3rd down.

2. Because it's commonly known that our offense was more successful than our defense he talked about them differently. IMO, the basis of what he was saying about the offense was that they scored a lot of points and had explosive plays (or players, depending on how you look at it), but for our team to take the next step we have to improve on things like completion percentage and 3rd down conversion.

3. Do you honestly think if James Coley listened to that interview that he would say, "Damn, he just threw me under the bus!"? Not a chance.

Again, you're making something out of nothing.

Old Skool

j.w.

Terrance, that sounds like a DBC prediction, my friend! We are going to struggle next year, tougher schedule, losing a lot of depth on defense, breaking in a new qb, will rely on a lot of players who haven't played a down of major college football at several positions, and we have no idea if Duke is really going to be healthy by next September. Some of these things will work out, some won't, and our record will depend largely on who comes back healthy for opponents. Way too early to count on 10 wins.

Old Skool

Interesting factoids from the NYTimes

During the bowl season the N.C.A.A. temporarily relaxes its no-payment rule: Players who compete in a bowl game get up to $550 in gifts.

Electronics are popular. The Missouri Tigers and the Oklahoma Cowboys, for example, got Apple TVs and iPad Minis for participating in the AT&T Cotton Bowl.

Auburn and Florida State players competing in tonight’s Vizio BCS National Championship Game are getting Fossil watches, shirts, hats and the “gift suite” treatment: basically a shopping spree where they assemble a package from a set menu, including Sony and Nintendo products.

Outside the confines of the post-season, accepting such gifts would get an athlete barred from the field. Players can’t receive any “extra benefit” for their athletic services — not even a free meal from a prospective agent, let alone a game console.

My old players come to the games often...like old Canes they can come on my sidelines...you know why they come? to see that OL steamroll people and backs run behind them then the sting of play action.....and yes they all say they remember how big monster death hits got me way over the top...far more than points...I do not want to win 55-0...give me 28-0 with about 6 assassination hits....what we live for...JMO don't think we'll ever see that folks!!!!! VA Country Azz Cane!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO like Rick Flair!!!!!!

Charminade is in the Valley, Canoga Park to be exact, it's a small religious school that plays other small religious schools predominantly.

Valley football in LA SUCKS. Best players rarely come out of the valley yearly. Go to the basin and get some guys who play in a less 'refined' atmosphere for their rivalry games if you want to be stealing from the best stock of LA football talent. Not to mention they got shut out against their rival this season . . .

Regardless of what the future holds I have to take a second and give props to jake, that boy can punt. I don't recall a single shank all year. He almost replaced my fav cane of all time bosher. But bosher could lay the wood. If dno can somehow find 11 boshers for defense then well be straight.

jsy

But sadly if bosher was on this team he would have been on the bench for too much freelancing

Very true OGV

CGNC

So, now I ask you this question: "What stood out for you?"

Finally listened to Al-Pa. What stood out to me was he completely evaded the Penn State questions, but by this time, there is really no good way to spin it so probably the smart thing. Also he said "uh" more times than W in the debates in his opening statement which shows he was really uncomfortable. Other than that more of the same: "excited", "continuity", "trend" and "it starts with me". Nothing new.

GO CANES

CGNC

ANYBODY THAT HAS A TICKET TO RIDE THE 14-0 BUS I HAVE SOME BAD NEWS.THE HEAD GASKET IS BLOWN,TRANNY IS SLIPPING IN 3RD GEAR,AND WE NEED NEW TIRES

LOL Zilla

VA Cane

Al Pa....hell CGNC all he needs is some khakis 2 inches too short some black coaching cleats with the ripples on the bottom, the bottom of 2 Pepsi bottles for specs......and instead of denying any knowledge of improprieties just deny any knowledge of thinking of taking the job at PSU.....a damn yankee frog looking through ice telling a damn lie.....perfect.

Hey hey gonna be about 10 degrees here tonight...under 0 tonight.....damn wish we were playing....theres noting like hitting a WR in the ribcage in the sub zero weather up 28-0....love that sound of air out of the lungs and the writhing on the ground from a clean hard low legal hit.....Dno and AG would never know much less coach that..........too bad so sad........you like that Al Pa don't you CGNC?!!!!!!!!!!lolretty funny!!!!!

Montreal-Cane

Ohio great info as usual...

Do you expect Valentine to recommit?

TonyCane

We will win 6 - 8 games this year, but will actually have a significantly better team than last year

Yoopercane

There is nothing I can say or do that will change the direction in which Al claims that this team is going. I can complain, rant, scream and it wouldnt change a damn thing. We can beat this horse (sorry CGNC) until the cows come home but I think the horse is beyond dead. Al and co are staying and I just have to find some positive things in this and except it. I AM CANE FOR LIFE!

Montreal-Cane

Al needs to stop answering questions like a politician if he wants to regain our trust if this is possible.

Not a single reporter was agressive enough today...Joe Rose was a wimp this morning in his interview with Coach Golden...We didn't learn anything new...No one asked this question forward...Plain and simple did you meet with Penn State representatives in the last 3 days yes or no?

It seeems obvious Al Golden met with some Penn State representatives least WE...

I can only speculate (the way Al Golden was so evasive today)that he did interview for the job but wanted a deal done on sunday. But Penn State told him they had other candidates to interview...Al probably figured he was not the first choice and too much was at risk for him to wait until the end of the process. So with pressure from UM administration and may be some more $$$ he came to the conclusion of withdrawing his candidacy and stay at Miami...

Once again this is pure speculation on my part but i feel good about it.

VA Cane

Just a sidetrack...bear with me

....I was reading a paper today and it had the music stuff....it had all these people listed on the charts....soul....R&B....and honestly I could not tell you who any of them really were....mostly rap people which is fine not a lot of music in there I know but that's ok.......

but my mind drifted back to the 60s and the really true great soul R&B artists....BB King, Ike and Tina Turner Revue, Aretha, Sam and Dave, Booker T. and the MGs, Clarence Carter, King Curtis, Marvin Gaye....wow What's Going On is the Greatest album ever....The Meters, The Neville Brothers, Jr. Walker and the All Stars, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, 4 Tops, Temps, Edwin Starr, Joe Tex, The Supremes, Carla Thomas, Stevie Wonder....and maybe the greatest of all time....Mr. Otis Redding. I love that man. Tonight while cooking dinner I played the vinyl record Jimi Hendrix Experience/Otis Redding Monterey Pop Festival...summer 67....and its scary...Hendrix first exposure to an American audience fantastic he is too good....but Redding...too good to be true...he's backed by Booker T and The MGs....and he is unreal...the energy, the feeling, the music, the heart and soul he pours out...he's breathless between songs....its 1 side of an lp maybe 12-15 mins but it is so unreal so full of energy funk soul R and B...its the real true essence. I read the liner notes only for the 10,000 time....and the word by Pete Johnson....about Hendrix and Otis....its so moving....honestly I had tears for the 10,000 time.....I am not making any judgement....but a very very strong recommendation....many of you may be too young to have ever heard it or know of it...hope not....for VA Cane....get a cd of it....play it loud....and read those liner notes....you will cry when you feel the depths of their souls...the power the beauty....you will cry I promise....I have many times....and unashamed to do so because it is so beautiful, revealing of their emotions feeling power and love of people....check it out sometime....just a thought

WWIN

Best thing that could ever happen to powell is that he stays on the offensive side of the ball while NO'D is at UM.

Don't you worry about that, Golden and co will have him playing defensive back faster than you can say db!!!

Go Canes

That was a no blitz sack out of a base 3 4 defense by FSU.

Their front line is really dominant.

WWIN

If you don't think this program was a raging dumpster fire a month after Golden got here then something is really, really wrong.

Posted by: Go Canes | January 06, 2014 at 12:00 PM

Golden said out his own mouth to start judging him the moment he stepped foot on campus but now you want us fans to disobey HIS ORDERS??? Or was that another one of his lies?

WWIN

Why am I still reading about people talking about d'no instead of AG? How many damn times must golden tell y'all that this is his d???????????

Susan Miller Degnan ‏@smillerdegnan 15m

Now.@GoldenAl talking about defense and if he'll make changes: Says he's responsible for the defense and the personnel -- for everything.
