As I was thinking back over the season and trying to remember my favorite moment I thought about the big win over the Florida Gators. That was good and fun too. But when it really comes down to it I think the 2013 UM football season really comes down to when NativeCane said this at the FSU game in Tally:

"Hey SOUP, throw down some beer, we need more beer for twerking!"

FSwhoo goes SEC route, former LSU guy Fisher, former Bama guy Pruitt, Hurricanes go, Mac route Golden and No D and we're suppose to be surprised with the results.

Terrance Sullivan

Soup that sounds like a plan.

Go Canes

And Florida hired Urban Meyer from the Mountain West's Utah, LSU took a guy from the Big 10 in Nick Saban, Ohio State took Jim Tressel from Division II Youngstown State and Oregon took Chip Keely from NEW HAMPSHIRE.

How did that work out for those schools?

Im with umike too many shots at obama and liberals (which i am).Politics should not be on the blog at all. I know my boy VA cane has some strong passion but when he drops stuff like that it does bother me. Lets just talk canes and getting VA Cane at least the DC job in coral gables.

Let's not forget we took Jimmy Johnson when he was barely over 500 at Oklahoma State and hired Erickson from powerhouse Washington State.

What in the world is the point being made when you guys keep ragging on the fact they came from a MAC school?

It's also well known that Ridley and Shawn Burgess-Becker want to play together in college. Leading for one is akin to leading for both.

j.w.

RCCF- love your posts, but totally disagree on this one. Luke's post certainly implied that Randy was signing all of the area's best recruits and that after his firing all of the area's best black recruits went to Louisville or Central Fl. Both were completely untrue; Randy had one great class, one good class, but dozens of top recruits (regardless of race) wouldn't sign with him. It was one of the biggest disappointments we suffered, as everyone assumed that a Miami born and bred HC would clean house in Dade and other than the Northwestern kids he missed a helll of alot more than Golden. It was like the end of the Coker regime with him. And Golden's hiring caused one or two kids to leave, we had practically nobody committed when Randy left. Yes, everyone remembers Bridgewater and that is one we all regret. But name three other commitments who left due to Randy's firing.

The difference between the MAC guys, and the other names you mentioned...is those other guys broght something new to the table.

Kelly - Took the no huddle to another level.
JJ - Miami 4-3
Erickson - One Back
Urban Meyer - Don't know the name of His offense, but it was innovative.

What do THESE! guys bring to the table...self help books...The Stockdale Paradox?...cute lil' maxims?...that's it?

Posted by: Go Canes | January 03, 2014 at 12:39 PM

JJ was 8-4 his last year at OSU, and the reason he was able to do that was that he had invented a defense that killed the option. Erickson was 9-3 at Washington State (improving from 3-7 his first year), and had an innovative one-back offense that Miami thought would emphasize its air superiority.

Say what you want about JJ and Erickson, those guys were technical innovators. Golden's main contribution to the technical aspect of the game seems to be heavy repetition of the adjective 'multiple.'

How can GCrow leave, Ohio? He runs the scout team and helps to get our D so prepared?!

Yes, obviously Tim Tebow would have been a success no matter what system he was in, as evidenced by his massive successes in the NFL.

Other evidence that the Urban Sprawl works is that Alex Smith was a #1 overall draft pick.

JJ was 8-4 his last year at OSU: TRUE
Overall Record at OSU : 29-25

Erickson was 9-3 at Washington State: TRUE
Overall Record at WSU: 12-10-1

Good article! I am in full agreement this is the JUDGEMENT year for Coach Golden and staff! Year 4 is the year to judge a college coach PERIOD! They have my full support LETS GO CANES!!!! All Shannon players are now gone and this team is now ALL GOLDEN'S players. I am hopefull that James Coley will have improvement in year two and the D improves to a top 40 Defense.

A Health Duuke wins us 10 games this dude is a program changer! I did not think our O would fall off so much without him. It's clear that offense runs through him and Duke is the heart of this team!

You are correct it's incredible the excuses made to justify .500

Screw the name of Urban's offense before being hired by the gators his accomplishments' Bowling Greens In his first season there, he engineered one of the greatest turnarounds in the NCAA football history, going 8–3 and capping off the season with a 56–21 victory over Bowling Green's rival, the University of Toledo Rockets.[16] He also earned Mid-American Conference coach of the year honors. The next year, Bowling Green finished with a 9–3 record.[16] After a 17–6 overall record, Meyer left for the University of Utah. He helped turn around a team that had gone 2–9 in 2000.

In his first year there, Meyer was named the Mountain West Conference's Coach of the Year with a 10–2 record, the best ever for a coach's first season at Utah.[18] He also earned honors as The Sporting News National Coach of the Year, the first Utes coach to do so

In 2004, Meyer led the undefeated Utes to a Bowl Championship Series bid, something that had not been done by a team from a non-automatically qualifying BCS conference since the formation of the BCS in 1998.[22] He remained at Utah long enough to coach the team to a Fiesta Bowl win over Pittsburgh,[5] capping off the Utes' first perfect season (12–0) since 1930

Now what did Al do again??

There is no such thing as a list of reasons. There is either one sufficient reason or a list of excuses. ~Robert Brault

Ridley on 247

Ridley (6-2, 170) exploded onto the scene, finishing the year with 1,131 yards and 12 touchdowns on 41 receptions.
Not even Ridley could have expected that type of season.

-Says “I was real happy with how our season went as a team,” “We were able to get to the playoffs for the first time and I was proud we achieved that. I was pleased with how I did personally too. I knew I could be that type of player, but I didn’t know I could have those kind of stats.”

-Top five of Miami, Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU.

-early leader “I love Miami,” “That is my top school. I like the atmosphere and I really like the receivers they have right now. I am very comfortable there.”

-Is in contact with Brennan Carroll and Al Golden “They pretty much say they want me and Shawn to come together and help bring them back,” “They tell me how much they are gong to be needing receivers next year.”

-Thoughts on how UM 2013 season “I think they did good, but they could have done better,” “They shouldn’t lose to Duke and games like that. They will get better next year.”

-Was in attendance for the Under Armour All American Game on Thursday night. He will likely play in next year’s game. Ridley was seen on the sidelines wearing a FSU hat and windbreaker, but he says not to read too much into the outfit. Says “I got it for Christmas, so why not wear it?” “I don’t really know much about them. They offered me, but I haven’t heard from them. I do like the way they play.”

-Ridley and Burgess-Becker want to get out and see as many schools as they can this offseason so that they can make the most informed decision possible. Says “We want to go to Tennessee, Oregon, Ohio State, and West Virginia,” “Just to see what they have to offer and what it looks like.”

-Discussed what factors will be most important in his recruitment. Says “I just want a good education and early playing time,” “That is it.”

J'Ville Cane

Again, you can't have it both ways, don't reference the 80's and 90's hirings when it fits your agenda. We are talking about the landscape of college football today which is entirely different from yesteryear.

Even the university of Connecticut went and hired a guy from Notre Dame. We go and get a MAC staff.

Louisville goes to the SEC we went MAC.

I guess it's true, we are trying to keep up with the Wake Forest of the world (Yes Wake got their guy from the MAC too)

Even FAU went to the SEC we went MAC
Arkansas State went ACC we went MAC

Miami Ohio went and got their guy from Notre Dame, we went MAC

Two wrongs don't make a right, but they make a good excuse. ~Thomas Szasz,
