I remember that on Golden's first year he said "we are playing a lot of freshmen" (Excuse #1). That article really bears out the truth... If Golden and company could develop players and the RS guys had so little talent, couldn't he coach up more guys? Why are RS recruits still playing?

AfriCane

just a good thing I didn't care for NYE celebration this year. because my year is officially ruined before it started.

RCCF

After All of This Do Want Him Back? Do the Kids Look at him the same? Do Recruits Trust him? Do we lose Recruits and or Kids Want to Transfer because of his Disloyal Heart? these are my concerns because if he doesn't leave NOW he is a cancer to us and I can guarantee the kids are watching these shenanigans as much as or more than fans..

j.w.

Nigerian, he isn't gone yet. And probably won't be any time soon.

AfriCane

j.w., if he told UM that, then y is he talking to penn state? its even worse that he talks and then stays. GTFOH!!!

AfriCane

GTFOH wasn't to u j.w. more to golden.

The Dude

RARA, I totally agree. His Ds were not creative. Mostly Tampa 2 with far superior talent. I'm not black, but my family is mixed with every race you can imagine so I keep it real as f*ck in regards to race. I wanted Randy to be successful because he was a Cane first, but I also think it helped in recruiting that he was black and a successful man.

4-Real

I wanna hear what Cocane thinks asap!

CaneRock

Miami is not a Tulane, stepping stone, its a major program.

Miami is a stepping stone...for the NFL.

orange 'n green in the vein

Terrance, I'm at a loss for comment too right now, sure is fun reading though.

The Dude

Yeah, we need some CoCane ASAP!

j.w.

No worries, Nigerian, I knew what you meant. He can spin this pretty well still, something along the line of "This is where I want to be. My alma mater called, I listened, didn't interview with them because as much as I loved my time at PSU this is where I want to be, where I plan to be, where my family is happy." He effectively tells recruits that he doesn't want to go anywere elese, tells parents my family loves South Florida and you have nothing to worry about regarding your kids, and subtley reminds recruits and their coaches that he is in demand. The fact that UM probably here's the third message the loudest gets him his raise.

The Dude

OGV, we don't need you to comment, we have a fair idea of what you might say, lol.

j.w.

hears ^^

RARA

Nigeriancane...you have obviously never been recruited on any level, either with sports or in business. When a big name job comes seeking you out for an interview, even if you will likely not take it you hear them out. Even if it is a courtesy. You don't do that for a slapd*ck job, but for a big name job you grant the interview. Nothing wrong with seeing your options and staying put (exception is your marriage lol). I'm not mad at Golden for listening. Not even mad if he leaves.

SOUP

I believe Golden will stay. He will talk to PSU to leverage more $$$ for himself and his assistants (new hires?). That is the way the game is played folks, get used to it. Did'nt U see it with the "Saban to Texas" news lately. How many coaches gpot extensions and raises because of that "Breaking News"?

CaneInsider has learned that Al Golden spoke to a source inside the Miami Hurricanes’ football program and said emphatically, “I’m not leaving,” earlier today. The source requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the current situation.

CaneINsider believes that coach Golden is committed to finishing the work he started at Miami based on the characterizing of the sources comments. Golden is set to close this year’s 2014 recruiting class, which his widely seen as top 10 by all recruiting services and stay in Miami where his family has found a home. Something he’s said on numerous occasions previously.

Rand Stevens

Golden will have more success with more intelligent players who can think on their feet. Miami talent is more reptilian.....not a bad thing but different.

Yes the same for Jimbo.

fyi....after watching the Almighty Bama get SwissCheesed I don't want ANY parts of the 3-4base in Miami AT ALL...that defense is LAME!!

so its racist to point out that daU has only had one Black coach in a predominately black cultured area with kids who grow up playing for black coaches but if someone makes light of the fact that the one coach that was black and given a chance was handcuffed he is racist...SHUT UP PEOPLE.. that my friends is Stupid.. The man spoke his mind and nothing else level the labels at 3M..

RCCF12%

This is nonsense. For some strange reason the ESPN 30 for 30 The U show created this myth that somehow Miamis football program is a singular creation of the inner city in Miami. In fact, Miami's greatest years were a hell of lot more integrated regionally and racially than anything in the last decade of failure.

Ive seen more white boys at skill positions in these bowl game running train on opponents this year than Ive seen in years.

This entire program needs to get out of fantasy land open it's mind and come into the year 2014.

you know, this thought has been on my mind for the longest but I've never articulated it. i'm more inclined to think that is the main reason for our failures last 8 years than coaching. yes! we have super athletes but r lacking the super smarts. florida athletes r raptors & T-rexs while Midwest talent r more like Dolphins, with better smarts.

Well said. I think that has a lot to do with the struggles on D. Jmo...

per canesport:

by Gary Ferman

After days of speculation, CaneSport has confirmed that Al Golden has been offered the Head Coaching job at Penn State and is likely to take it.

Miami is predominantly a Hispanic (vas majority Cuban) cultured area followed by Haitian area. It's not "predominantly black" by any stretch.

RCCF

sidebar: I am not implementing the demographics of Miami I have never been..I was simply saying Randy gave 20yrs to daU..They could have done him better BottomLine..Yes he deserved to go but I do think it was still too early.

That Is All..

RCCF12% ColorBlind Green and Orange ONLY Thnx!!

The Dude

RCCF, it was only too early because they hired Golden. Had they hired Gruden like they thought, and Miami was dominating, its a different story.

that is a general rule that refers to pedestrian situations. some jobs r too big, some situations r too top level to where a whisper makes a big impact. Miami is such a job. the intent behind the intent that leads to talking to another organization about another job is powerful enough. when speculation hit about saban to texas, saban shot it down. he didn't wait to talk to texas 1st. he couldn't mess with a program as big as 'bama. the U is such a program.

RCCF

No it would've still been too early I felt like the firing of Randy came at the uprise of his Coaching.. The Coach who hated him was gone.. He was most likely gonna retool Idk this is all just hogposh now but I just felt it was too early..

Just a thought if AG goes to Penn State.
I wonder if they talked to him before the UL game...and if so, did he pack it in weeks ago?

O'Brien was rumored to the Texans a while back...maybe PSU had the plan moving long before we knew it....

I believe that sometimes you have to spend money to make money. Miami could go with an up and comer in the WAC or AAC or Big East. However, I believe its time to take out the checkbook and spend money on a coach that can bring in the revenue. We all know that when Miami is hot that stadium is sold out! We just havent been hot in a quick minute.

here is my list of possibilities from a financial situation
1. Mike Leach
2. Rod Carey - Northern Illinois
3. Tim DeRuyter - fresno state
4. Ed Oregon
5. Lane kiffin - He will be cheap with little success.
6. Tommy Tubberville

From a smart standpoint
1. Charlie Strong - Recruits our area heavily and would help us keep recruits and have one heck of a defense. Problem is he would be expensive. I believe if Florida has another bad year he would go there.
2. All former hurricane connections - Dorsey(they did it at texas tech and it worked), Butch, Chud, Schiano, ect. Its just exciting but probably not likely.
3. Gruden is always mentioned in every job opening so add him to the list.
4. All former players - Reed, Lewis, Bernie.. haha
5. James Coley - why not! everybody likes him and would help with recruiting which we all know is important!

Dude on a Pale Horse

You may be right, your certainly entitled to your opinion that he was close. I don't see it though.

Longtime, are you suggesting that a university may have made some phone calls behind closed doors?

Montreal-Cane

Butch Davis tells me he would like to interview if Canes job became open.
