This article was written for Canespace by blogger AeroCane...
I want to start off by giving you some background. I started going to Hurricane and Dolphin games at age 4 in 1966! I am a huge Cane fan and have never waivered in my loyalty. That does not mean I like everything going on in Coral Gables nor will I keep my mouth shut.
At first I loved the Golden hire. However, after seeing the way he defends the defense time after time, I am leaving judgement until after this year.
Personally, I am very disappointed that he is going with this same staff, but, I will give Golden the 2014 season to succeed or fail.
So with that out of the way, I am listing the recruits we have gotten this year that the big dogs also wanted (Alabama, Ohio State, UF, FSU, etc). Hopefully they stick!
(The ratings are my system – the higher ranking of either Rivals or Scout)
Name Pos Stars Key Competitors (who have Offered)
Chad Thomas DE 5 Bama, UF, FSU, UL, LSU
D Jackson DE 4 Ark, UL, WV
T Harris DE 4 BC, UF, FSU, GA, Ohio St, Tenn, Wisc
M Smith DE 3 Ark, Clemson, FSU, UL
B Kaaya QB 4 Boise St, USC, UCLA
M Rosier QB 3
J Yearby RB 5 Bama, Aub, UF, FSU
B Berrios WR 4 Clemson, NC, OSU, Oregon, USC, Tenn
T Brady WR 3 UF, FSU, Miss St, UCF
D Langham WR 3 FSU
T Gray WR 3 USF, Cincinnati
KC McDermott OL 5 Bama, UF, FSU, LSU, OK, OSU, ND
R Gibbons OL 4 AR, Aub, Clemson, UF, FSU, NC, OSU, Okla, USC, Tenn
T Darling OL 4 FSU, Clemson, WV
N Linder OL 3
K Hester DB 4 Ark, BC, Mich, Mich St, Neb, NC, Ohio St
M Gayot DB 3 Ark, USF, UL
R Mayes DB 3 BC, Syracuse
D Owens DB/LB 3 BC, GA, UL, Mich St, Neb, Ohio St
A Moten DL 4 Bama, Ark, UF, FSU, UL, MSU, OSU, ND
C Heurtelou DL 3 Aub, Missouri, Neb, Tenn, Wisc
C Jenkins DL 3 Pitt
M Wyche DL 3 USC, Wash St
T McCray LB 3 Bama, LSU
J Young LB 3 Miss, NC
C Herndon TE 3 Miss St
So basically what this list means without any debate is the following:
- FSU offered 10 of our current committments;
- A top SEC school (Bama, Auburn, UF, GA, LSU, or South Carolina) has offered 11 of our commits;
- And Louisville and Ohio St have offered 11 of our commitments.
Yes, some players may get away, but Miami gets their share as well.
GO CANES!
I see there is some "UMikeing" going on tonight haha

### Three-star Jacksonville receiver Isaiah Ford, who wants to play both football and basketball, reportedly plans to visit Miami after attracting recent interest. Louisville, South Carolina and Virginia Tech are among others under consideration... UM needs all the quality linebackers it can get, so the Hurricanes have some reason for concern that Pompano Beach Ely prospect/UM oral commitment Terry McCray plans to visit Alabama and LSU. McCray can play inside linebacker (a big need area for UM) as well as outside linebacker.... Several UM coaches on Thursday visited four-star Imokalee cornerback JC Jackson, a soft UF oral commitment who also is considering Miami and FSU.

As national and regional recruiting analysts will soon converge on this area of the country to check out some of the elite prospects going through speed and agility drills, it is a reminder how impressive this next wave of talent really is.
After following talent in this part of the country for more than 44 years, I have not taken it for granted when it comes to the level of play we have and the elite athletes who pass through on the way to the next level.
Just like the classes of 2014, 2013 and the dozens before them, the Class of 2015 is upholding the prospect-rich area.
This is a class as we usher in another promising offseason that will leave a mark in the collegiate and professional ranks.
This is a class with football players who have been leading since they put on that first uniform. Highly prized prospects such as Plantation American Heritage quarterback Torrance Gibson, running back Jordan Scarlett (Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), Miami Central receiver Da’vante Phillips, Hialeah Champagnat Catholic receiver Steven Claude and Miami Northwestern receiver Jovon Durante.
Where other offensive performers such as Miami Booker T. Washington quarterback Tim Alexander, tight end Devonaire Clarington (Miami Southridge), South Dade running back Johnnie Hankins, Miami Westminster Christian athletes Jordan Cronkite and Tim Irvin, St. Thomas Aquinas receivers Juwaun Harris and Devante Peete, and running back Deltron Sands, Hallandale running back Taj McGowan, Miami Southwest quarterback Deundre Pickett White and athlete Trevon Sands, Pembroke Pines Flanagan quarterback Ryan Stanley, Coconut Creek Monarch receiver Calvin Ridley, Sunrise Piper running back Travis Liburd and Shaquery Wilson (Coral Gables) have been turning heads.
The Class of 2015 also is stout on defensive with Central defensive backs Calvin Brewton and Olin Cushion, lineman Fermin Silva, Plantation American Heritage defensive back Tavarus McFadden, Miramar safety Kendrell McFadden. Jeffrey Hill and cornerback Tyrek Cole, Hallandale linebacker Sh'mar Kilby Lane, St. Thomas Aquinas defensive backs Tyson Cisrow, Rashard Causey, Lance Deveaux and lineman Brandon Boyce, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons defensive end Richard McIntosh, Killian defensive back Jaquan Johnson and linebacker Bruce Davis, South Plantation safety Rodrick Archer, defensive back Gerald Robinson and linebacker Danny Thomas (Champagnat Catholic), Monarch safety Shawn Burgess, Fort Laudedale Stranahan safety Richie Kittles, linebacker Emilio Gibbs (Coral Gables), Miami Gulliver Prep linebacker Dominic Sheppard and Deerfield Beach lineman Jason Strowbridge.
Other 2015 prospects
Quarterbacks: Gerald Anderson, Miami Springs; Malcolm Anestor, Hialeah Gardens; Tucker Beirne, Christopher Columbus; Jake Boshever, Coral Springs; Patrick Coats, South Miami, Jason Collins, Dillard; Deangelo Fulford, Northeast; Michael Harris, Monarch; Brett Israel, Douglas; Hilton Joseph, North Miami; Janarvis Pough, McArthur; Jake Rizzo, St. Thomas Aquinas; Bernard Scott, South Broward; Jowan Watson, Gulliver Prep; Cedric Wiggins, North Miami Beach.
Running backs: Alex Anderson, Miramar; Wade Collier, Homestead; Brayon Parrish, Western; Brandon Silvestry, Belen Jesuit.
Receivers: Leon Brown, Miami Northwestern; Antonio Calloway, Booker T. Washington; Andres Fernandez, Christopher Columbus; Robert Foy, Flanagan; Jordan Herrera, Killian; Andrew James, Westminster Academy; Kahlil Lewis, Miramar; Anthony Olivencia, Killian; Koron Rozier, Coconut Creek; Victor Sam, North Miami; Dequantay Smith, Southwest Miami.

UpNorth...I get to work early and for the most part let these computers do their job.. gives me a few mins to BS lol... IDK if he flew back with them, but maybe lol.. he is locked in to UM.
Im still waiting to hear about Golden visiting VT though. Hopefully that comes today.
Posted by: UMike | January 17, 2014 at 06:18 AM
There also seems to be a little smoke around Treon Harris and Miami's chances. He brother Tim Harris JR was saying that Miami offering late is understandable because staffs are always evaluating needs etc...IDK if that was political talk or not. I mean, the whole family went to UM, his teammates are going to UM and we have the last visit. Another "expert" was quoted as saying Harris was "looking around."

Miami is now the leader for 3-Star athlete Deiondre Porter from Tampa. He committed from USF after he Miami offer. He is visiting Florida his weekend, but Miami is in the lead at the moment. Has offers from Florida, Cincy, Rutgers, Wisconsin & USF

From Ariz...
His brother was telling me back in August that Treon would be a Cane if offered as a QB. We will see if those feelings are still there.
Posted by: UMike | January 17, 2014 at 06:37 AM
It should also be noted that Harris either did or is visiting Florida. I know that means nothing for Miami, but it might show he isnt as solid to FSU as we thought.

@mattyports: #Canes offered Treon last week. Tim Jr. said family has no issue w/ that; programs are "constantly evaluating" needs.

Playing career[edit]
College[edit]
Golden was a three-year (1989–91) letterwinner and tight end for Penn State,[1] where he received the 1991 Ridge Riley Award, given annually to a player who displays excellence in scholarship, sportsmanship, friendship and leadership. As a junior in 1990, Golden played a key role in Penn State's nationally-televised 24–21 upset of #1-ranked Notre Dame at South Bend. His touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter tied the score at 21 as Penn State rallied from a 21–7 deficit. Golden was named captain of the Nittany Lions his senior year and helped lead them to a 42–17 win over University of Tennessee in the 1992 Fiesta Bowl, an 11–2 record, and a #3 ranking in the final 1991 AP Poll.
Professional[edit]
Golden spent the 1992 season in the National Football League with the New England Patriots.[2]
Posted by: 86Cane | January 17, 2014 at 10:01 AM
According to the stats from 1992 Golden never played in a game, caught a pass or scored a TD for the Pats.

The Atlantic Coast Conference raced into the New Year riding the momentum of a 2013 fall season that was highlighted by two National Championships, a Heisman Trophy, widespread team success and individual accolades in virtually every sport.
ACC Commissioner John Swofford discusses the remarkable run and looks ahead with the hope of continued success in the spring.
Q. The week of January 3 through 10 saw the ACC win the Discover Orange Bowl and the Vizio BCS National Championship, place five schools among the top nine in the NACDA Learfield Cup standings and claim the MAC Hermann Award in both men and women’s soccer. As Commissioner, could you think of a better start to the New Year, and what do you think that says about the conference as a whole moving forward?
A. It has been a tremendous year, and that week sort of puts in perspective how successful our schools and our student-athletes have been during the fall sports. It shows the breadth of quality, athletically in our conference – collectively in terms of our teams and again, on an individual basis in terms of the quality of our athletes. When you have a national champion in football, a national champion in men’s soccer, the Heisman Trophy winner, the national players of the year in both men’s and women’s soccer, the success of our field hockey programs , as well as all of the individual awards in football – not only the Heisman Trophy, but multiple national player and coach of the year awards– it really has been an outstanding fall, and with the culmination of that, to the New Year.

Q. We had kind of a ‘perfect storm” in ACC Football with the National Championship, 11 teams posting winning season, the Heisman Trophy and almost every other major award. But where do you think the conference stands as we move from the BCS to the College Football Playoff next year?
A. I think we took a definite step forward with ACC football this year. We had 11 teams going to bowls, which had never happened. We had 11 teams with winning records, which is absolutely remarkable. In the course of a week, we had two BCS bowl wins – one, of course, for the national championship, and the other against a quality name-brand opponent in our partner going forward, the Orange Bowl. The winners of those games (Florida State and Clemson) both finished in the top 10 in the country. It really has given us a platform a national perspective that we need and desire, and an excellent platform on which to build for the future.
Posted by: SOUP | January 17, 2014 at 10:43 AM
Q. Touching on the bowl partnerships that begin next season – it’s an interesting mix of some games that ACC fans have grown to know well and some new ones as well. How do you feel about the lineup that will be in place starting with the 2014 season?
A. I think that without question it is the best bowl lineup that we’ve ever had. You start with our continued and strengthened partnership with the Orange Bowl, and who will be (the opponent) on the other side on an annual basis: the SEC, the Big Ten or Notre Dame. The Orange Bowl will always be played now on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, and the ACC will always have a team in the game regardless of how many of our teams are in the four-team BCS Playoff.
We have the opportunity to continue in Orlando, and in some years possibly play in both games (the Russell Athletic and Capital One Bowls). We still retain our ties with Nashville (the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl) and the Belk Bowl in Charlotte continues to get stronger and stronger with the SEC on the other side. That seems like a natural for a game in the Southeast.

This is pretty funny from D$ over at CIS..
Recruiting is a weird thing
This is totally off-topic and probably a bit negative, but it got me thinking. In 2008, Randy Shannon cleaned up South Florida. It was the happiest NSD we've ever had. Some called it the best class in the country. Now, looking back on it, four things dawned on me:
We signed a five-star cornerback. But the five-star cornerback we missed was Patrick Peterson.
We signed three highly rated DTs, including the number one DT in the country. But the defensive tackle we missed was Corey Liuget.
We signed seven wide receivers. But the wide receiver we missed was T.Y. Hilton.
We signed eight players out of Miami Northwestern. But the ninth guy was Lavonte David.
