That Incognito story is the most revolting thing I've read in a very long time. My God, we all get that an NFL lockerroom is different than anywhere else, but how any University would allow idiots like this to say they came from their schools is beyond me.

@NashSports: 2015 Monarch WR Calvin Ridley has been offered by USC. Per @coachmarroquin @FlaHSFootball

Morris, who is training for the draft at Pete Bommarito’s Performance Center in North Miami Beach, said Williams will surprise people next season. “You don’t need a rocket arm to be a great quarterback,” Morris said. But Williams has improved his arm strength in the past year, which has coaches encouraged.

I think Morris is getting confused!! I think he meant to say Gray Crow, not Williams!!! Isn't that right Soup?

@LB, What!!! Kacy Rodgers isn't on your top 10......LOL!!!

thirstybuzzardcane

I would have to say that Coley has to be in the top 3 for best player on the team.

1. Perryman
2. Duke
3. Coley

Definitely still running Shannon's scheme at tht time...also fielded the BEST Defense since Golden's arrival so if U did your best work the first go round...why change a system that wasn't broke is a better question? Why are you defending a change that made things worst?

From Ariz:

Had a chance to watch Demetrius Jackson play basketball
I went to the Ransom-Booker T. Washington game last night, which was the regional quarterfinal matchup. Everything you look for in a football player who plays basketball, Jackson has. He finished the game with 26 points and was matched up with Trey Mourning (Alonzo's son and a top basketball recruit) for most of the night.

The first thing that jumped out to me about him on the court was that he does not have the look of a "basketball player" as far as body composition. His lower half is very strong and he has bulked up tremendously in the last year. His size will not be an issue on the football field, especially as he continues to focus on adding weight over the next few months.

In the first half, Booker T. picked up full court, where Jackson was at the top of the press. He was all over the court and had several steals where he showed off his wingspan and high pointed the ball. He is an extremely fluid athlete for his size, but was not afraid to use his body down low even when being covered by Mourning. There were a few instances where Jackson caught the ball in the high post and just overpowered the 6-9 Mourning to get to the basket.

In the second half, the Tornadoes picked up man-to-man and Jackson was covering Mourning. In the first half, when Booker T used more zone, Mourning had 16 points. Mourning scored 9 points in the second half, but almost all of the points he scored were a very difficult and Jackson seemed to frustrate him. On a related note, Mourning is a player...he's not just a name. Good touch around the rim with a smooth jumper for his size.

Nearly all of Jackson's points were at the rim on either dunks or layups. Like I said, the most encouraging thing that I took away from watching him is that he's not all that far away physically from being able to contribute on the football field. Jackson played the entire game as well and was playing his best as the game wore on. He always seemed to be around the basketball, which is another trait to look for in a defensive player in football.

I've been singing Jackson's praises for about six months now and last night validated a lot of my beliefs about him from a physical standpoint. Miami got a steal.

KY Yes Sir man this cold weather is crazy, its been extra cold this year and the wintry mix stuff has been crazy but the crazy part is the day I leave and the days I will be in Miami the temperature here will be in the low 70's. I am like seriously. Cant wait to party with yall.

Remember Spence played a year in that system when he was interviewed this season and he spoke about the scheme not being the problem.

Dude on a Pale Horse

This blog existed WAY before so many Golden defenders started coming around. Golden received plenty of praise with McGee, Jacory, Perryman, etc. Golden put much of his own blood in the water this year when he didn't fire D'Onofrio and flirted with Penn State and lost to Duke and VT and was blown out by Louisville. You want Golden praise, go look in the archives.

RCCF

the fact tht everything there after has failed DUH..so he just magically lost all that ability tht Spence was braggn about after all the 2008 kids left the program huh?
insert excuses....
here it is....if it wasn't broke why fix it?
they destroyed a working defense to implement defenses tht don't allow athletic kids to be athletic kids...tht is all

Go(lden)Canes well its because you defend a mediocre scheme....say it with me now
NO SWISS CHEESE....clearly we were a better defense one year removed from Randy Shannon correct....ok after tht has the defense not gotten Progressively Worst?....(insert crap stats)this is where you usually bring points like but we held Sav.St to 7points and the defense kept us 7-0 blah blah LIES....the majority of anybody breathing KNOWS there is NO WAY to claim a quality defense when you are fielding inferior opponents...check this out do you not think that our offenses of old were so potent because they practiced against CandyAsses? No Sir they were tough as nails because who they practiced against were the BEST of the BEST....now fast forward to now...every write up swears by our offensive line....a chunk of fans would say they underachieved...Now again practing against CandyAss Schemes gives the offense CandyAss hopes for Saturday...its easy math but you choose to argue against it and I mean honestly I don't believe anyone can see how you don't see that...but hey cheers to you Mr.

Why is it all facts stated to the contrary of someone's opinion on here gets labeled an excuse?

We didn't have the talent for a top 25 defense ==> fact

Our defense didn't look good because it was on the field too long ==> fact

Defensive talent wasn't good enough to do better than #121 (2012) or #101 (2013) in ypg ==> excuse

Is it so hard to understand?

VA Cane

Bottom line is this....we can argue until Doomsday about this and that.....but the fact is that we have got to improve in a lot of areas. The Defense has to get better....I do not see them being Top 10 this year....but we need to improve....and stats are not everything but they tell the story. 3rd down conversion, scoring D, red zone D, sacks, hurries, TOS, rush and pass yard avg...it will tell you a lot. I look at players....their fundamentals, special skills, attitude, aggression, learning and listening skills, commitment to team. We need to get people in a good scheme and keep coaching them. does not have to be complex...the 46 has a lot of different stuff to it....lets get in the 4/3, be aggressive and ready, do some blitzing that's successful, play some tough man....and get better. It takes players and coaches. Same on O. We need to get better at running the ball, 3rd down conversions, run block, and TOS and penalties. That is my take. I could put them in a million schemes....we are gonna have some young talent....KISS keep it simple stupid....get an aggressive basic set, coach the hell out of them, try things and see what works. Show improvement. That's a start. JMO)

Go Canes

I'm not defending the scheme.

Can't you guys differentiate between the two?

The guy said we switch schemes after his first year here. That is a factual inaccuracy.

The result is irrelevant, the fact is what I am pointing out.

VA Cane

We must get better. If we get to 50-60....that would be a nice improvement....and its a lot of things that we are doing...coaches and players that need to be worked on. Again, I know we are not in the top tier.....but lets commit to getting better. Good goal to start with we know we cannot give up these huge numbers and win consistently.

VA Cane

Yea there were times I felt we could have 14 on the field like Buddy Ryan LOL.....and not make the plays we need to make. We tackle poorly too much arm tackling, grabs.....bad angles. This can be improved by coaching proper technique. Fundamentals. Improved tackling would make a huge difference....we can do it.

CaneRock

Boy I tell ya', Go Canes & 30CINCO want to give credit to this "scheme" soooooooooo bad...WHY?!

Ohio_Cane, I don't see no Sonny Ogdogwu being our starting RT. That spot is either Darling's, or McDermott's. Golden sounded very excited when He was talking about those two..."They are, who we thought they were."

Lurker

2011 defense had several NFL players on defense and was markedly worse than 2010 defense. Gave up a lot of yards and long drives unlike the previous year. Scheme debate started the very first year because the 2011 defense had so obviously regressed from 2010

RCCF

Were the keys handed to 30'nofrio very workable? So why change from what was working is the biggest issue?

Very nice highlights. bg1906 did a great job on these; it gives you some idea about each kid. I watched them through; I am going to go back and make some notes so that I will have some idea what each guy does well.

Like I said, I am looking for a nice improvement this year; it will be interesting to see how we do...new QB, how will Duke be, can we run the ball....and can we get the Defense to improve. I think yes, and I am going to be positive....but we have to focus on a more aggressive scheme, improve in areas I mentioned before, have an all out effort from players and coaches....and make some strides....it can be done. Lot of snow here on Wed and Thurs....gone now melted away.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Go Canes please leave your case rested and dont try and open the trial again and then complain that the trial is open again.

Lurker

Two jet questions are Duke's and Yearby's recoveries.

Being cleared to play is not the same as being ready to go full tilt at game speed. Just the slightest level of hesitation and fear is the difference between an average back and a gamebreaker.

The Dude

Good post Lurker, I think Duke is pretty feerless though. On the same note, I'd like to see Malcom Lewis come full circle next year. That kid was looking like a really good player before his gruesome injury.
