Rion Brown became the 35th member of Miami's 1,000 point club, scoring 22 points in a 69-42 win over visiting Boston College Saturday afternoon.
Brown shot 8 of 14 from the field and made four 3-pointers for Miami (14-13, 5-9 Atlantic Coast Conference). Erik Swoope tied a career high with 14 point, while Manu Lecomte and Garrius Adams had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Hurricanes opened the second half with a 14-6 spurt and increased a five-point halftime advantage to 13 for their first double-digit lead. Brown's jumper capped the early second half surge and gave Miami a 41-28 lead.
Patrick Heckmann scored 15 points but was held to two points in the second half for Boston College (7-20, 3-11).
Starting 5: Garrius Adams, Rion Brown, Erik Swoope, Raphael Akpejiori, Donnavan Kirk. Miami’s first points came at the 18:35 mark on a Donnavan Kirk free throw. The Canes shot 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.
Rion Brown’s 22 points against Boston College pushed him into the 1,000 point club. Only 34 previous Canes have scored at least 1,000 points for UM, including Durand Scott and Reggie Johnson from last year’s team, and Malcolm Grant from Coach L’s first season at the U.
Rion Brown scored in double-figures (22) for the ninth straight game and 21st time this season. Rion Brown has also hit multiple threes in nine-straight games, connecting on four against Boston College.
With four 3-pointers against Boston College, Rion Brown is currently No. 9 on Miami’s all-time list of 3-point shots made in a career. His 167 trail No. 8 Kevin Presto (170). Jack McClinton holds the record with 286 made from distance.
Erik Swoope tied his scoring season high with 14 points Saturday. It’s the second time the senior has scored in double figures this season and first time since 1/8/14 against North Carolina.
Garrius Adams scored in double-figures (10) for the eighth straight game and 16th time this season. Manu Lecomte has recorded an assist in 13 straight games (33 during the stretch).

1. Baseball: Beating the Gators is PRIMARY.
2. Basketball: Beating BC by 27 is LEGENDARY.
3. Men's Tennis: No disrespect to the guys but let us just say that women's tennis is ALL the rage right now. And by ALL the rage we mean that it is happening. And soon we will show U the what, the why and the way.

Barry Jackson:
Gray Crow is realistically an afterthought in the spring competition, and incoming Brad Kaaya (likely Olsen's strongest competition in 2015) and Malik Rosier arrive in the summer.
Coach Al Golden said last month that “Ryan has done a really good job, but you're not anointed the starting quarterback. In terms of his growth, maturity, football intelligence, he’s someone we're excited about."
PS: See what I did there, SOUP.

Offensive line coach Art Kehoe and receivers coach Brennan Carroll attended part of the Hurricanes’ baseball game against the Gators on Friday, stayed in the baseball coaches’ office complex for several minutes and then left to walk the prospective UM football player to meet with other Canes’ players at their offseason voluntary workout.

CR I love it. Sometimes its fun to throw out a comment to see what happens. You my friend are the king of comment!!!!!
In the trunk......only you my man. I agree its a rough surface and they beat and bang!!!!!! I think a new part of the equation is the fans. The crowds are so loud vocal and entitled, the pressure from them taunting yelling shouting crazy shit and being so close now makes the amps go up!!!!
Great comments!!!!!!

16 errors in 6 games fo Morris' Canes. cannot survive a season with defensive play that god awful. 5 years running Cane baseball has had trouble with fielding.

As much I am trying to stay positive for the U baseball, as I'd said yesterday it's unlikely that these timely HRs will continue game in and game out. Errors and min. offense (ie 6 hits and one error last night) will doom them if this continues. Now, if the pitching continues to be fairly solid and HRs continue, the situation improves a lot vs. the last few seasons. I'm not sure where this plays out yet, but as I'd said yesterday....6 HRs so far this season vs. 14 all of last year sounds like there is likelihood of some improvement in power. Most importantly, two straight vs. FU is nice, regardless of how. Sweep 'em today...

Go Canes! Sweep the Crocs!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | February 23, 2014 at 11:10 AM
I guess it's not enough to enjoy the moment and be happy about taking the series from the crocs. Some people just like to wallow in misery rather than enjoying the present.

Great point Lurker.

This was a fantastic expedition to witness some Canes action up close & share it with good people at my side. Killer hot wings at the Titanic, shakes at "the Light", great weather, thumping of some hated rivals, the Hooters Girls & meeting the lovely young Lady Canes ACC tennis champs.
And last but not least, "We finished strong, baby!" with a side trip down Las Olas to Ft Lauderdale beach with it's stunning scenery.
Posted by: KYcane | February 22, 2014 at 11:04 PM
With all that said above - the one most memorable thing I took from this trip was standing silently with Terrance on a beautiful quiet morning and paying our respects to the late great ST. A life cut way too short by random violence. The feeling we took from this as we drove away was just so incredibly moving.
Posted by: KYcane | February 23, 2014 at 12:32 PM
If that comment was for me, Lurker, I call the good and bad (called being realistic) while always loving beating FU. I did the same after the win over FU in football. If this were the last series of the season, I'd have no problem with any form of winning. As it is, there are a lot of games still left in the season. I see more hope (some power is being shown, in spite of min. hitting and a bunch of errors, which luckily are the kind of problems that can be corrected and is more forgivable early in the season, unlike a lack of power) on the diamond than I had the last few years so far, and HOPE it all goes well.
For now, after losing four straight series to the turds, I'd love to see the sweep!
I am truly excited about our hoops the next few years. I think Coach L is amazing, and they are doing a great job this year given what they have and in spite of the record. More talent infusion coming in along with growth of young players means some really good teams the next few years. If somehow this team can pull off an upset at UVa this week, a little mo could build. Getting to the top half of the ACC isn't completely impossible, being 10th right now. I don't expect this upset to happen, but if it does
there could still be some excitement left in this season (not an NCAA berth, of course).

FU took a 4-0 lead in the first. The U just hit a HR, now 4-2. Dangerous way to play to stake opponents to good first inning leads as they've done in 2 of these 3 games in the series. Carey's second HR of the series. Inning done, to the 4th with the Canes down by 2.
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 02:03 PM
min. offense
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 10:17 AM
The defense will never hold up if we can't control the TOP.
Posted by: KYcane | February 23, 2014 at 02:16 PM
Now 6-2 in the top of the 5th, Turds. The positive of the series is the U's 6 HRs in one series for the first time in 4 years. Now, how about not giving up more runs and putting a little O together. Bunt single by FU to open the inning, taking advantage of Thompson playing deep at 3rd.
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 02:24 PM
Gators with their 10th hit of the afternoon, now runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Gonna go hang with the family in a few minutes. Easy enough to watch by ESPN 3 streaming on the computer for those interested though.
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 02:26 PM
Now 2 outs, with a K at the last batter. Still runners on 1st and 2nd. Tapper to short, toss to the 2b, and out #3. To the bottom of the 5th, down by 4.
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 02:28 PM
Now 6-4, FU, in the bottom of the 6th. Canes are sticking around, after netting a pair in the 5th, but 1-2-3 in the 6th. FWIW, Canes have 2 errors already today. As already discussed, routine errors are a disturbing trend that needs to be followed over the next few weeks.

Why isn't Sean in the Ring of Honor yet?
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | February 23, 2014 at 03:04 PM
Bottom of the 9th, Zach Collins up to lead off, Canes still down 6-4, last 3 outs to go....
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 03:40 PM
Batter 1: Groundout.
Batter 2: Garrett Kennedy up, quickly behind, 0-2. Now, 2-2....
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 03:43 PM
Kennedy: now full count. Payoff pitch coming...walked him, tying run coming up.
Alex Hernandez, 3rd batter of the inning. Out of fairness to FU, Kennedy should have been out. Ball 3 shouldn't have been taken and looked like a strike. I'd expect the ump to be generous the other way with the next batter if he counts on a taken pitch call. Looper into left for another hit. Runners on 1st and 2nd, pinch hitter coming in, still one out.
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 03:45 PM
The crowd is waking up, with Brad Zunika coming up...a big fella, I'm assuming hoping for a single swing to end this thing. He's 6'6", a freshman with only 2 ABs this season with one hit. Left hander. Pinch runner coming in, too. Gator coach coming in, taking his time and stalling chatting with his pitcher while letting his relief pitcher finish warming up. Can't believe they're giving him so much time. This is likely the payback for the non-strike call....
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 03:48 PM
Ball one to open it up. Now 1-1 count. Fair ball down the 3rd base line.....wait, call reversed, now a foul call...ugh....thought we had the tie. BTW, the batter is now Sebastian Diaz instead of the original pick given the pitcher brought in. Next pitch, strike 3. Two outs. Last chance time. In comes Gator manager, new pitcher yet again, 6th of the game.
Posted by: jcane | February 23, 2014 at 03:53 PM
High fly to center. That'll do it, folks. The U loses game 3. 7 hits and 2 errors doesn't usually cut it in college. Exciting 9th and nice to see them have a few shots at least.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend all.

I was very moved as a player, coach and UM addict regarding the ST post you and T Sully experienced....God is good....thanks for remembering that God Family Country UM matter....and great thanks to SOUP who really makes this all possible...thanks to my family for so much input and knowledge.......VAC

Which is ironic as watching a race track being dried for six hours is more entertaining than UM football games with him coaching the team the last three years.
