The University of Miami men's basketball team beat the feathers off of the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee on Monday night by the score of 77-73.
It was a nice and maybe even unexpected win in the ACC, but if you think about it, who really who cares about the score? It was a basketball game after all!
The score never really matters in basketball games or to mascots, now does it?
It seems like every game in this sport, college or professional, usually comes down to the same silly and ridiculous ending: the last minute, and sometimes just the last 3 seconds, is all that really matters!
Why these teams play for 48, 60 or even more minutes (OT) is just totally beyond any rational and/or reasonable person's comprehension. There is so much wasted time and energy by both teams just to get to the final minute that makes the rest of the game seem academic.
The sport is clearly self-indulgent and often looking lost, wandering and unguided. Why not just play three, five minute games and whoever wins the best two of three games survives for the final victory?
Why waste our time watching so many minutes that clearly do NOT matter? No, instead we watch an entire game, and then wait for the last 60 seconds to see what really matters: who wins and who losses.
And apparently what really matters is fouls and time outs that extend the game endlessly. Oh yes, what an exciting game it is NOT! The Seminoles intentionally fouled the Hurricanes on their final 8 possessions at the end of the game to send them to the free throw line with a chance to win the game.
Sure, in the end the Canes beat the dreaded Noles, but seriouly, did U really enjoy it? Maybe so just for the victory dance but the end of the Hack-A-Cane game was simply brutal to see.
Dude and OC...I was just throwing out a group.
Jerome Brown was CAT QUICK!
Not sure about the others.
The real question is do we have ANYONE on the team that can make this list in a year or two.

VA,
Melo is pudgy. I don't think he ever lifts weights. Does he do any practice outside of what he has to? I mean look at LeBron, that guy clearly pushes himself and his body. Even Kobe has always been in terrific shape. How does Melo get away with it with all that money he's paid. He should be a better defender too. Wade is ten times the defender Melo is and he's about 4 or 5 inches shorter. Wade will out effort you, but that's probably why his knees are giving out, lol.

I don't have a problem with a cat coming out and saying he's gay. Way too many feel like they are being looked at, stalked, felt up....whatever its called homophobia it makes me laugh....gay people are not like that...they know who is straight and who is not. I have friends who are gay, and I know some gay people. Never had a problem with them and respect them. I do have a problem with the media......First Take has to debate it over and over, Around the Horn got to harp on it.....and Mike and Mike are overkill....Goltick stammering stumbling bumbling hemming and hawing like he's ok with it and of course Mike Jr and Jake are too I hate the damn Golitick family ....and Greeny obsesses over it. The thing that got me is the overkill...its not the end of the damn world, its a person who is different......not orange with 2 heads and 8 arms....move on.
The press, especially CSNBC has to keep reviving it....and of course they have to get in that Michelle Obama thinks its great. I don't know why we need to know that....you pretty well figure the Pres and Mrs. O are fairly open minded people who are accepting and its is not an issue it should never be a political issue a persons choice..and the right is just as bad...I don't give a damn what Limbaugh and Glenn Beck think....they are so right wing they should be called Nazis....let the man be who he is, and accept it, move on. It is 2014 not 1945....

Since we beat the hell of the defense, what do you think about the Oline? I thought the Canes pass well but run blocking for short yardage was less then desired

Jelani was bitten by the injury bug coming out of HS and at UM. He's played some, but not a lot.

Nash at CIS:
A 2015 Georgia lineman gets a UM offer
As of late, the Miami Hurricanes staff has been offering 2015 offensive linemen left-and-right. One of those linemen is 2015 Coffee County (Ga.) offensive guard, Cole Minshew.
Minshew, who checks in at six-foot-four, 310-pounds, claimed the Hurricanes offer just a few days after National Signing Day and the offer just happened to be his first.
"My head coach told me that there was a college coach that came by for me. It was (Miami Hurricanes tight ends coach) Larry Scott," said Minshew in his deep southern accent. "So I called him and he basically told me had an offer for me."
Minshew added he really likes the vibe he gets from Larry Scott early on.
Being that it was his first offer, Minshew was ecstatic and plans to be down in Coral Gables for a junior day in March.
"It means a lot, especially since it was my first offer. They will definitely be in my top list of colleges," said Minshew.
While he doesn't have any offers besides the 'Canes, Minshew has been visited at school by the in-state Georgia Bulldogs, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
"I'm really just looking for somewhere I feel like I'm at home," said Minshew. "Also I'm looking for great coaches, good facilities and stuff."
Cole and his team, the Coffee County Trojans, compete in arguably the toughest class of Georgia football, AAAAAA and compete very well.
"I'd say I play nasty. Just flat out aggressive and physical," said Minshew. "I always play hard and I'm always very loyal to the team."
While he isn't your prototypical lineman that Miami is use to recruiting, Minshew plays a very tough, hard-nosed,mane exciting brand of football.
He is a player, Al Golden's staff could develop and down the road be a starter.
I would compare Minshew a lot to current 'Cane offensive linemen, Alex Gall.

Sinister great point on run offense, but my guess is just like our def scheme our offensive scheme where you run the spread and not punch U in the forehead football which i prefer the running game typically is less physical, it can produce big plays but its unusual to ground teams on long drives. Those 4 long drives against Carolina and Wake respictively was encouraging to see but i dont expect it. Go Canes! My biggest thing is all I ask for is a real good run game, an effective, smart, accurate, quarterback who makes the right throws to our receivers, and tight ends, and when needed make a timely 3rd and 4 run get 5 yards get outta bounds to extend the drive. Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco esque.

I watch the first half of the game again and I'm proud of the way the guys played on D. Best they looked since the FL game.

Willie, intentional fouls are 2 shots and the ball. Unfortunately, at the end of the game, the fouls everyone knows are intentional aren't called that way. If not in the double bonus it is 1 and 1. Why should the winning team essentially be penalized-----why not let them take it in again if they want?
Posted by: Mountain Cane | February 11, 2014 at 04:56 PM
My vote for fastest Cane DT (and also best) is Jerome Brown. I don't think it is close in either category.

And everybody also knows that was for the REGULAR season record not counting a conference championship game and/or bowl game.
OGV...Don't take shyte out of context on purpose unless U want it stuffed back up your azz where it came from in the first place.

My favorite plays involve sudden shifts in emotion particularly against hated rivals.
In the Peach Bowl against FU, the Gators blocked a punt and had great field position. Gator fans are rocking, smelling blood. FU runs four plays and then lines up for a 30 yard field goal. Thomas Carroll blocks it. Devin Hester scoops it up and sprints 78 yards for a TD.
Gator fans looked like they just got gut punched. The momentum shifts 180 degrees. The U sacks Chris Leak on the next two plays.
Miami goes on to win by at least three touchdowns with Brock Berlin leading the way and rubbing it in at the end.

Said Rosier: “Once I committed, I knew I was going there. I couldn’t wait to sign the papers and be a Miami Hurricane.”

About 2015, it's about the recruiting. The 2015 class has a real chance to strengthen the roster. Two four star players leAve after the 2014 season, and possibly 10+ will replace them. That is, unless Golden's job is perceived to be in jeapordy next year. Then the class will collapse, just as it did in 2010 and we will be lucky to salvage the class. I'm not saying I'm absolutely right...but there is a severe short term cost if golden leaves after 2014.

Old Nick, after getting gutted by Oakie, has changed his DEE philosophy, going for more speedier guys, than the road grader type De's & Dt's. Got to have more versatility to combat the spread and just think, we're wanting to get bigger.
