Came down to Miami for the weekend to avoid the snow storm in NYC. Was @ cameo last night. Saw Bryant McKinne celebrating his birthday. Now @ the Schwartz center to see the building live for the 1st time. Took a picture @ the big U sign. Have to head back tomorrow to the snow storm NYC. FML!

Lord willing I'm gonna try 2 make it 2 tha FSU game this season. 205 meets 305 by way of tha 313 baby!!!

Lance Leggett had every bit the talent Andre Johnson did. I'm not entirely sure Lance ever lifted a weight at The U. He should have left a 220 pound, 6'3", 4.3 40 running freak. Instead...

------------------------------------------

You are high lol

If you rephrase this you would be closer to correct.

"Lance Leggett had similar HT/WT/Speed combo of Andre Johnson"

Johnson was faster, Johnson was almost much stronger, way different body type. Of course Johnson's talent was not just HT/WT/Speed his FOOTBALL talent whihc is what matter's was much greater. He could actually Catch and use his HT/WT/Speed talent, Unlike Leggett.

Old Skool

30Cinco. I haven't lived in South Florida in about 8 years. Wings n Curls east of 75 on Hollywood Boulevard used to be good, however their quality declined over the years and they've since been bought out. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Dude on a Pale Horse

The biggest thing I'm looking for is an attacking D. Not a sit and wait D. I'm not talking about blitzing. I'm talking about canning this 2 gap read react crap. I think Al can develop the talent. Hopefully the last 3 years of not being able to stop anyone has opened his eyes on his D and has made him realize changes are needed. Of course everything he's said leaves me to believe he hasn't. I think Ryan wins the QB battle and I want to see him be a football nerd. I want to watch Gus get better and not get hurt. I want to see James Coley utilize his players in better situations. The WRs are really good. Waters, Dorsett, Coley etc. I want to see what Dobard really is. I want to see if Kehoe still has some great OLines in him. I want to see Perryman be an All American and the secondary become a no fly zone. I want to see Figs become a machine ala Dan Morgan.

Hassan

I'm most intrigued by the battles at Safety. We had some bright spots and some shaky plays. 2 new guys, especially Kiy Hester will push the current guys.

Also intrigued to see if Artie can take the next step at CB and grow into the beast I think he can be.
--------------------------------------------

Artie will be a good one at DB. his development will happen in summer 7 on 7's, Guarding #3 will make you get better.

The safeties are the best group long term on the team.

Jamal Carter - Safety takes time to learn, this kid has all the tools, he will play more this year and be a contributer.

Deon Bush - He will bounce back and also help us in the Nickel situations, reminds me of Antrel Rolle in that he has that ability.

Rayshawn Jenkins - Kid is the next great safety at the U, a big year might propel him to go pro. He is a ball hakw but also a good run adn strike guy, old U type player.

Dallas Crawford - a very tough smart football player, leading scorer on last year's team. He is not super fast but he can come in and provide great depth at the safety position and special teams.

Ray Lewis III - not a big kid or fast but after a year in UTough i think he might be a late bloomer and have just enough to provide depth on special teams.

2 freshman - both are big and they can run decently, the safety position is hard to pick up fast. I expect 1 or both to Redshirt and get stronger and learn the defense.

For those interested, the game tomorrow is at 2pm.

Wow! I love wings, too, but the Canes take down FSU on the diamond in Tally and we get no more than four posts on it?! C'mon, Canespacers! Great pitching by Diaz and Garcia. Pretty good defense, too, in spite of the error in the first that gave FSU their only run of the game (yup, by our old football player, D. Thompson). Diaz did his own share of good D to save himself, and didn't get rattle. FSU did though, giving up I think 2 of the 3 runs on errors, along with committing 3 errors to the U's 1. Neither team did much hitting. Pretty good pitching out there, which is the key to the season more than likely. I'd love to see Garcia get more consistent in the closer role, as he could be a huge help to this season's team.

Game 2 manana. No wide rights here, but it's still FSU. Go Canes! Interesting is that this series doesn't count toward the conference standings, as they weren't supposed to play each other intraconference this year, but still do to maintain the rivalry. It makes the games way less meaningful, but nobody can ever look at it this way when playing a top 2 FSU team and looking at potential end of season seeding for hosting regionals, should the U continue to play good ball.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Going back through the season hilights. There were flashes. We just never stepped on throats. Morris made stupid plays in important situations. When healthy, we were very fast. Dorsett can beat any D deep. Running game has to get better to bring safeties up. Duke is a gamebreaker when healthy. Next year he's going pro. We badly need to get better. I think Al has done a much better job getting players better than Shannon with Chickillo being an exception. That kid was a very good 4-3 DE. I really wish we ran the D we ran before Golden got here. Too many times we are lost! Looking back through a lot of seasons today. No one got less out of talent than Coker. Moss was a beast Freshman. Leggett had NFL written all over him. Willie Williams... 2002 should have won a 'ship, 03 should have played for a 'ship, 04 and 05 we had freaky talent just never got better, got lazy.

The Tit Wings are very good. Especially paired with their Beer Sampler. Great stuff.

Agree.

Montreal-Cane

We now have a real closer freshman Brian Garcia with a 97 MPH fastball on a regular basis.

Excellent game by starting pitcher Chris Diaz.

FSU was undefeated and ranked at no. 2 before today's game.

Go Canes sweep the Noles this WE!

Montreal-Cane

Nice win by the Canes over FSU 3-1

CaneRock

As far as DB depth is concerned, is outta all the Safeties we recruited, maybe 1 (Hester), is the only TRUE Safety. Frankly, I think Gayot eventually moves to LB, or some type of hybrid SS/OLB position.

Go Canes

We are equally thin in the defensive backfield.

DB and safety comprise a minimum four to five players on any defensive snap. We are barely 2 deep at some positions, not counting incoming freshmen.

I seriously doubt our coaches moved Dallas unless he really wanted it and they were 100% sure Duke and Yearby we're going to be 100% this fall.

Dude on a Pale Horse

When will Cronkrite announce? We need to stock up on elite RBs. Last years crop would have gone a long way. We didn't get Cook or Michel or Powell. We need 1 or 2 elite RBs every freaking year, can't miss guys, 6 deep roster. Gus is a nice project, make him a FB like Najeh.

VfB_Cane

I'd say the plan is to confuse opponents by having two players named "Crawford" at DB to make up for a less than confusing scheme LOL

Lurker

You can't even compare anyone in the defensive backfield to Crawford based on last year, because you don't take someone that's been offense for the spring, summer, and fall practices, and the season, and expect them to be plugged right in on defense where they have to make reads and adjust.

So just hope people are kidding about saying Highsmith is "better" than Crawford, based on last year. Makes no sense at all. Apples and oranges. lol smh

4-Real

Db / safety

Jamal Carter
Deon Bush
Ladarius Gunter
Artie Burns
Rayshawn Jenkins
Dallas Crawford
Tracy Howard
Antonio Crawford
Corn
Fentress ?

Rb /Fb
Duke- injured
Yearby- injured / yet 2 play
Gus- raw BUT improving
Walt Tucker- unproven
Kid from Iowa- unproven

Which position is the thinnest again? Hope this strictly 4 the spring. Sully is right bout our offense. We put up great numbers against garbage teams. Nevertheless I hope OUR Canes have a healthy & productive spring. God bless JoJo.

Dude on a Pale Horse

2001 Canes would nickle and dime you with FGs all day. Dorsey made quick choices and always understood the situation. The OL always protected Dorsey, it was personal for them, very personal, religiously personal. They could almost always run their way out of a funk. They were so efficient it was scary. I can only see 5 or six players on our O being good enough to be on that team, and maybe only one of them would start.

On D... Haha on D... we'd rip your f*ckin heart out. We'd freakin fly off the line to disrupt you in the backfield. The back 7 would read the play and then FLY to the ball... BAMM!!! Some fool just got blasted, ball pops out and 6 Canes are heading the other way! Convoy football. Our D now has maybe has 5 or 6 players that could be on that roster in 2001, maybe 1 (Perryman) would start. AQM would get a lot of time too. Here I think a lot of our problems are we aren't aggressive on D. We are coached to be scared.

We aren't there on either side. That being said, we have more than enough to beat Duke and last years VT. Also had more than enough not to get blown out by Louisville.

Terrance Sullivan

Lawd Beer! LOL

BEERicane

but if we're moving him back to S now we must be seriously hurting there.

Posted by: j.w. | February 28, 2014 at 05:25 PM

Does this imply Highsmith was better than him? If so, ouch!

j.w.

4th string running back seems a little harsh. He's shown more than Edwards, has more experience than the new kid. He might never be Duke but he's the guy we wanted in goal line situations last year when Duke was healthy. No, Crawford isn't playing in the NFL at RB, but if we're moving him back to S now we must be seriously hurting there.

Terrance Sullivan

LOL we are far from good on offense. Just like the A**clown writer who complains about how bad our 3rd down defense was and he is right about that but fails to mention how awful we were on 3rd down completion offense was but hey the appologists will say hey nothing to see here we have the greatest offense on earth(side eye) its just our defense is awful. Our offense is just as good as FSU, Bama, Auburn, etc we just had the worst defense known to mankind. SMDH.

RCCF

TS you don't think that scoring too fast is an issue i.e. Miami either hits the homerun with Duke running it or QB over the top to a receiver...tht takes NO time at all off the clock i.e. doing good but shooting yourself in the foot.. I wouldn't necessarily say that is a problem as much as it seems or looks like...also if you insert a QB with field vision and pocket pressence enough to utilize the line play then you have a Brand New Offense...Trust TS we are good on Offense not Laughable at all...

RCCF

Terrance Sullivan

Rock thats a tough one. I say the place with the best wings good cold beer with many options, plenty of flat screen tv's with sports on it. and if the talent is functionable. IE nice looking but isnt too ditzy. Ya Dig!

Terrance Sullivan

Both the offense and defense needs to greatly improve. Thats just keeping it real.

Terrance Sullivan

LOL at Offense isnt a problem. Thats hysterical!

TS I honestly didn't really give the Offensive a read...Our offense is not the issue alot of our problem is we either score too fast or we don't score enough..Easy Fix the Athletes are there so its not much of a write up...anyone that knows Miami football knows we are DEFENSE so I wasn't trying to single you out I was just playing off your words but again my concern is Defense the Offense is NOT the issue..

"Drover's wings in Wellsburg, WV are the best in the country!

My favorite beers: Yuengling and Magic Hat #9"

Living in WV, I've never heard of Drover's.

Formerly the best wings in my neck of the woods was 6th Avenue Grill.

But now, the best wings are either Fat Patty's in Winfield or Adelphia in downtown Charleston.

Lurker

Wasn't Tucker under consideration for linebacker?

Terrance Sullivan

Rock U might be on to something bruh!

Terrance Sullivan

Raize go for it bruh!

CaneRock

Some of ya'll overlooked another name in the RB mix, a name I was surprised to see in Barry Jackson's article...Quincy Casimir. Now I thought He was brought in to add Safety & Special Teams depth, but maybe the staff sees some potential there.

And again about Tucker...the kid runs/ran a 10.4 100M...was a 2x State Champion in the 110M hurdles...runs a 4.4 40...and is damn near as big as Gus! Like I said last night, the kid may be a legit prospect. We'll see.

raizecane

Not sure why.....but i have a craving for some wings....I hear the Tilted Kilt calling my name.

Terrance Sullivan

RCCF I said his defense opinion was pretty much spot on, but of course I saw U didnt say nothing about the writer excuse making on offense. I guess if U agree with writer then its all good lol. SMDH!

UpNorth, I CANNOT eat Wings without blue cheeze!

Dude on a Pale Horse

TS, I agree.

UpNorth, Its a Cali thing, ranch and avocado bro. On EVERYTHING!

4-Real

Not upset, just puzzled. I can see moving Gunter or Burns to safety but why Crawford now, when we realistically don't have but 1 true rb in Gus & he is still raw?

UpNorthCane27

The Dude to answer your question... It has to be bleu cheese all the way my man, especially with wings. But the bleu Cheese has to be on point if you aint got a good clue cheese you aint got ish.

Terrance Sullivan

Yes Sir Dude. I mean most points about the defense was spot on but hell most Reasonable Canes fans know this, but his excuse making for the offense and his lap dogging Stephen Morris was a joke. Lol he tried to make it Al Golden fault for the defense and offense. I mean seriously in the words of Rudy Ray Moore aka Dolemite I can take this article and wipe my *** with it.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Oh I see, 30Cinco posted it. NVM.

RCCF

I personally don't care that they moved Crawford to DB to be honest with you he was servicable at best as a RB if the kid loves it so do I next subject...

Ahhhhhh Someone writes exactly what we all know and he catches flack for it "shocked"..
Golden has able kids on Defense but is he putting them in proper positions? Bottomline..
No the writter may not have been an expert and I mean by stars who is an expert writter if we don't agree with them right?lol...but no the writter was correct the defense has been getting worst and this is the year to stand up and do something about it..
No Swiss Cheese....Build from what you did in 2011(copying HurricaneOnion's Formula)and let the chips fall where they may..

RCCF12%....say Al Golden 3x and who Appears?

Dude on a Pale Horse

You gotta link TS?

Dude on a Pale Horse

We're good O_C. I have nothing but love for you. And when I call you and Go Canes super homers, I mean it as a good thing. You guys bring good stuff every day.

Dude on a Pale Horse

And I don't think there are a lot of fans HERE that are upset with the move. 4-Real is the only one I've seen upset.

Ohio_Cane

4-Real made me think of it, that's all. My bad, and I'll clarify better in the future.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Its confusing when you don't mention you are reacting to fans on other boards in your posts here, it makes it seem like you are responding to earlier posts on the Space. I'm not trying to come after you O_C, just saying that's how it looks.

Ohio_Cane

MIAMI FANS, both here and elsewhere, are mad that Crawford is being moved. These are the same fans who complained he didn't do good enough at RB when spelling Duke.

What's confusing?

Terrance Sullivan

LOL at this Page Q sports guy trying to fancy himself off as some expert lol. So in short order the dude is a Stephen Morris lap dog, thinks the Offense is 5 star and the defense is 1 star. Great analysis lol. This cat need to stick exclusively to his day job. SMDH!

Dude on a Pale Horse

O_C and Go Canes are confusing everyone on the Space. I wonder if this is why so many arguments start. Lol.

Ohio_Cane

When I say "fans", I mean all fans, not just the ones who post here.

Ohio_Cane

CR,

4-real, plenty of guys on CIS, and plenty of people on twitter are VERY upset he's being moved to DB. We don't always refer to JUST posters on this site.

Dude on a Pale Horse

That's funny.

Go Canes

I was talking about it in general Canerock. I've been on other sites and have seen quite a bit about it on twitter.

But thanks for the all caps. Let's me know you still care.

Dude on a Pale Horse

Go Canes,

My only objection is the Spring depth. There are pros and cons either way. I don't think anyone is heated about it, except maybe 4-Real.

Dude on a Pale Horse

CR,

Sound the protect Al Golden alarm!

CaneRock

"Being second guessed" to what "extent"?

4-Real is the only one I know of that's objected to it. Sorry, I don't see this CaneSpace panic mode that you're talking about...maybe it's JUST YOU!

CaneRock

As far as Crawford is concerned, remember, He played STQB (Scout Team QB) His 1st year, and was a situational player (Wild-Cat QB) in 2012. So it's not like He was penciled in as a RB from Day 1. And me personally, I like Him more as a DB coming outta HS anyways.

Go Canes

I don't understand why the move of what will essentially be our fourth string RB is being second guessed to this extent. Especially when he's moving to his natural position and he wants to be there.

hilarious - yes

surprised - no

Ohio_Cane

Also, I remember tons of fans CONSTANTLY b!tching about Crawford and how he wasn't doing a good enough job when Duke went down. Even when I defended him and talked about him being the only reason we beat UNC.

Funny, cuz I bet some of those same people are now disowning the staff (AGAIN) because they moved him where a lot of people already said he SHOULD be playing.

I find it hilarious.

I personally think the S position is all set in terms of starters. Bush and Jenkins should be it. The freshmen should be able to push those ahead and get playing time. With Dallas in the mix now, that is interesting to watch as well.

Ohio_Cane

Also, how many carries did Dallas get when Duke was healthy? Gus and the other guys need the work anyways. Yearby will be healthy and ready to spell Duke.

Ohio_Cane

4-Real, Dallas is pumped about it, so I don't think our opinion matters anyways. He was a DB all through HS (9 INT's his Senior year), so it's not like moving someone who hasn't played the position much.

No Duke or Yearby 4 the spring, Gus is STILL raw, Tucker & this other kid have yet to get any burn yet you move hthe 2nd best rb 2 safety? I don't know which is worse, the actual move or the fact that fans are applauding / justifying this.....

All my opinion as of now (Pre-Spring):

QB - Ryan Williams

P - Austin Barnard

MLB - Rafael Kirby

NG - Olsen Pierre

OL - (L to R): Flowers, Feliciano, Shane McDermott, Isadora, KC McDermott

I'm most intrigued by the battles at Safety. We had some bright spots and some shaky plays. 2 new guys, especially Kiy Hester will push the current guys.

Yes Sir Dude!

Terrance Sullivan

I am intrigued with who will be our starting QB, Punter, Middle Linebacker, NG, OL? What position battles intrigue u all?

Dude on a Pale Horse

I hope everything works out for Miami/Dallas. I don't love the move though. I thought Dallas was reliable at RB. He's not explosive, but you can trust him.

Ohio_Cane

It looks like Gus, Tucker and 2 walk-ons getting all the carries for Spring.

Although it does make the most sense from Dallas' side to switch now. He needs a full Spring, Summer and Fall to get re-acclimated at DB.

The Dude

Unless they plan on Portis and Edge getting most of the carries this Spring?

The Dude

See O_C, the timing... it doesn't make sense. They're gonna have to RS Gus for the Spring Game.

Ohio_Cane

Dude, Gray (if he qualifies) would be at UM in Summer 1. So yeah, no Spring.

The Dude

My wife makes killer wings.

The Dude

I would love to see Gray at RB. But he won't be there for the Spring will he? I thought he was a Fall kid. The timing of the Crawford move seems weird. I hope the staff isn't moving Dallas to provide a spark, that's something Mark should be able to do.

Terrance Sullivan

Rock U are spot on though. No doubt!

Terrance Sullivan

Right on Dude!

The Dude

So many great wings out there. Personally my beer of choice with wings is Pilsner Urquell.
