In their final regular season game at the BankUnited Center, Garrius Adams scored a career high 22 points and Rion Brown added 19 to lift the Canes to a 69-56 win against visiting Wake Forest. Adams shot 6 of 8 from the field and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line as the Hurricanes never trailed after a 14-0 run midway through the first half.
Miami also withstood a Deacons' rally to end the first half. Miami (16-15, 7-11 Atlantic Coast Conference) expanded a six-point lead at halftime and outscored Wake Forest 12-2 in the first 6:57 of the second half. Rion Brown's jumper with 13:03 remaining pushed the Hurricanes' lead to 41-25. Erik Swoope was Miami's third double-digit scorer with 11 points.
The win moved Miami past Wake Forest (16-15, 6-12) for a 10th place finish in the conference regular season standings. Miami will now turn their attention to the ACC Tournament on March 12. The Canes enter the tournament as the defending champions, beating North Carolina 87-77 in last year's final in Greensboro. Miami, fueled by senior leaders Rion Brown & Garrius Adams, will play Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against Virginia Tech.
Noteworthy Since his arrival in 2011, Jim Larrañaga has recorded three of the top four win totals in ACC play in Miami history (15-3, 9-7, 7-11). Miami’s previous ACC high was eight wins in 2007-08. Miami finished the season 3-0 at home in ACC play after starting the year 0-6 in league games. The Canes finished the regular season shooting 50 percent or better in their last three games. Starters: Justin Heller, Garrius Adams, Rion Brown, Erik Swoope, Raphael Akpejiori.
Justin Heller made his first career start Saturday, joining four other seniors on Senior Day. Miami’s first points came on a Garrius Adams put back at the 17:45 mark. Garrius Adams scored an ACC- and career-high 22 points, breaking his previous ACC (16 vs. NC State 3/1/14) and career (20 vs. UCF 11/21/13) bests. Rion Brown has made a 3-pointer in 27-of-31 games this year and has registered two-or-more threes in 16 games this year.
Rion Brown scored in double-figures (19) for the 13th straight game and 25th time this season. Tonye Jekiri’s nine rebounds pushed his season total to 159, triple what he had in 2012-13. The sophomore has recorded five or more rebounds in 15 games this year. Erik Swoope’s 10 points extended his streak of scoring in double figures to five games, the longest of his career. Manu Lecomte recorded one three against Wake Forest, and has now hit a three in 15 games this year. The freshman finished the regular season shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc.
Manu Lecomte finishes the regular season averaging 7.9 points per game, the highest total by a freshman since Durand Scott averaged 10.3 in 2009-10. Manu Lecomte recorded a career high three steals. Lecomte has recorded two steals four times this year, last at Clemson on 3/4/14. Nine of Miami’s 12 players have registered at least seven starts. Garrius Adams is the only Cane to start every game (31).
Update the Record Book | Garrius Adams and Rion Brown are enjoying the fruits of their labor, building on their personal season highs. Garrius Adams Games Started: 31 Minutes: 1036 Points: 323 Assists: 89 Rebounds: 147 Rion Brown Games Started: 30 Minutes: 1091 Points: 476 Assists: 71 Rebounds: 184

This season proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Coach L is a GREAT head coach. This was a transitional year with a team stacked with 2 stringers who were offensively challenged.
They were unexpectedly entertaining to watch, never folded after a string of disappointing losses and generally performed way, way beyond my meager expectations at the beginning of the year.
L and staff did a brilliant job slowing the pace, transitioned the team to a zone D and made them competitive game after game.
Next year: we comin'. The future is bright for mens Bball as long as L is around.

TAMPA, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing program opened its 2014 spring season with a scrimmage against the University of Michigan.“The team raced hard today and I am proud of them for that,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “Ultimately, we fell short to an unrelenting Michigan squad. However, I think we learned some valuable racing lessons today. I look forward to building from this experience during out spring training camp which begins Monday.”

Bulls played with a lot of effort. Heat are the laziest champs I can remember in the regular season. They're a different team in the playoffs. Let's see if they can flip the switch again. I hate Noah, but he plays with the fire of a champion, I just can't get over the fact he's a Gator otherwise I'd love the guy. Way too many lazy passes by the Heat. LeBron wasn't aggressive. Thibbodeau is a fantastic coach, he always pushes the Heat to play a game they sont want to.

### A few UM spring observations: Coaches are very encouraged by the play of safety Deon Bush; they believe he’s back to the form he showed as a freshman before struggling through last year’s sports hernia. “That held me back [last year] with running, cutting and explosiveness,” he said. “I feel better than ever now.” Jamal Carter is making a strong case to win the other safety job, though he must beat out Rayshawn Jenkins when Jenkins returns from injury. UM wants more consistent play from Jenkins….. Freshman cornerback Ryan Mayes has surprised; he’s fast, long and covers a lot of ground.... Coaches like the pass-rush potential of linebacker Darrion Owens, who appears to be ahead of Juwon Young, the other early-enrollee linebacker.

Alabama signed six 5-Star recruits in the 2014 class.. SIX... 3 from in-state... not to shabby.
Posted by: UMike | March 10, 2014 at 07:47 AM
Was bored and did a little research...just wanted to compare some schools and states and see who actually keeps their talent home. All these numbers are based off 247 and their state rankings. This is ONLY counting the 4 & 5 star players.
Alabama
Total number of players - 12
Bama - 6 players
Auburn - 5 players
Bama kept 50% of the top kids in the State, and as a whole both "big" schools kept just about all of the top kids home.
Texas
Total number of players - 37
Texas - 7
A&M - 7
Baylor - 5
California
Total number of players - 43
USC - 8
Cal - 1
UCLA - 7
Standford - 3
Florida
Total number of players - 45
Miami - 8
FSU - 10
Florida - 5
The Florida schools kept more of their talent home. Miami with 8 is on par of above other most of the other big programs in terms of keeping their talent home. We just need to fix the issue where the few guys we do lose are the very top guys.

Posted by: UMike | March 10, 2014 at 10:20 AM
UMike good and expected analysis. Our Canes formula has pretty much been recruit Florida especially South Florida, Texas, California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Louisiana,Georgia. There is plenty of talent in the SouthEast go after it. And there was already built in pipelines to Jersey, Cali, Penn, Ohio, and Texas, so that was just being reopened. The Playbook is being reopened that we have used since 1979. Go Canes!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | March 10, 2014 at 10:57 AM
UMike, like I've said before, Young's gonna be a DE before He leaves here. With His frame, no way He doesn't blow up to 260-260+. And as much onus as this staff places on weight gain, no way He loses, or maintains His current weight. And then we still don't know what they're gonna do with Gayot & Hester.
