I guess I get #1. I even beat Soup!

One other variable many forget with the whole union discussion is that the very top academic students get opportunities to get in to grad schools that can increase the chances for better career earnings. Only the top couple % of students get in to law, med, etc. schools. These careers, after many more years of expense and hard work, often lead to better than avg. incomes, for which the tuition continues to be quite expensive (btw, docs are being told more and more by the govt. how much they should make while the govt. isn't paying the tuition to go to med school). Football or basketball players in the NCAA, if in the top couple of %, typically play professionally and make fortunes while not risking tuition expenses to get there. Granted, most never get to this level, but what's the difference for other students?

There are so many ways to view this situation, and all raise valid points. After all, a guy getting good medical care in college as an athlete may not continue to get great care for injuries sustained playing years after completing the school career. For the guys not going pro, this is an issue.

Too much thinking too late in the day. TGI@F. Canes, baby....

That was a cute switcheroo, Soup. Funny.

Sooooo... Gibson wants to commit early so other recruits will follow him. I wonder what kids he will try to take with him out of South Florida. Sad when the coaches had to recruit against other coaches AND local HS kids.

Gibson's the Pied Piper of recruits

UMike

Gibson isnt coming to Miami anyway, so hopefully he commits somewhere soon and gets it over with. Hopefully we can lock up JJ soon to "counter" whatever recruiting efforts Gibson tries. JJ has a ton more pull, at least in Dade than Gibson.

Actually, Jaquan Johnson is, but Gibson has plenty of pull around SFLA

UMike

Cam made a good point on Twitter last night saying something to the effect that its almost better to not have Gibson so we can avoid the controversy when we try to switch him to WR or the thought of changing the offense to fit his strengths. We need to lock up JJ, at least publicly (since I think he is a lock already)

Ohio_Cane

I think Jaquan commits to UM in the next couple months, BUT he is no lock, IMO. Having a great season this year would keep him committed.

UMike

Give me...

Jaquan Johnson
Calvin Ridley
Jacques Patrick
Tyrek Cole
Shawn Burgess-Becker
Devonaire Clarington
Tim Irvin
Jordan Cronkrite
Kendrell McFadden
Tevon Coney

Or a decent combination of 7-8 of those guys and it wont matter that we dont get Gibson, T. McFadden, Scarlett etc.

UMike

I think he is Miami's to lose. Kid has been a real Cane fan for a while. Who else would throw up the U for the all-country pic? He is not a trolling type of kid. I think he is all Cane, unless of course something goes horrible wrong this season lol

He did say that for the pic the photographer told him to pose different ways and throw up different "symbols" and that's the one the paper picked. But, he could just say that so people don't think he's a lock. Who knows.

Add Minkah and Wimbush and this class is complete IMO

UMike

Ohio.. I was just referencing "State of Miami" kids... so that when we "lose" local kids no one will really care if we keep those other guys home. Still need a DT or two, IDK where thats coming from

Those are all skill players correct?

Where's the beef?

UMike

SOUP... was just referencing "State of Miami" kids...there will be some DE's like Snowbridge (not sure I spelled it right), but no DT's at the moment.

WTH! did ya'll sprinkle in ya'll Fruit Loops this early in the mornin'!

Go Canes

I don't see a kid who couldn't start at QB for his 7 on 7 team being such a draw for other players.

UMike

Also, we already have 2 OL and 1 DT committed.

UMike

Go Canes, I think Gibson COULD start for the 7 on 7, but I think kids just become friendly with other top guys they meet at camps or on visits etc and they know the other kid is a top talent etc.... they dont look at "will this guy be throwing it to me for 3 years?"... I mean people wanted to follow Cook who is a RB. Its a popularity thing more than anything else imo.

UMike

Freakin Bama, they already got more 4-Star commits than we have total commits lol

I know what U were doing. Was just adding that with those 2 in addition, I'm good with that class and Golden can add whatever LB/DL he wants.

@NJ_Sports exclusive: DeSean Jackson's gang connections troubling to Eagles. http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2014/03/eagles_desean_jackson_off-the-field_troubles.html

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 5m

Despite shopping him and finding interest, Eagles have made decision to cut WR DeSean Jackson. Outright. Jackson is now a free agent.

WOW!

Canezitis

So he's too gangsta for Eagles!?

Ohio_Cane

Lol, Canezitis. Apparently.

Obviously, he put out a statement denying any gang affiliation.

UMike

So its ok to be racist and play for the Eagles, but not someone who maybe knows some gang members.. sad

After Aaron Hernandez? Yes. I think any team would take a racist over a gang member now.

30CINCO

From what I've read, I don't necessarily think he was let go strictly because of being "affiliated" with gang members. Seemed to have had issues with coach Kelly, was late to meetings, and was influencing younger players in a "bad way". Whether they believe the "affiliates" are the ones who are influencing him is another story, but I would think they wouldnt let him go if they werent certain of it. The whole Aaron Hernandez situation has teams on high alert.

UMike

I think the gang stuff might of been a way to make them look like they had legit reasons, has there every been a report about him and gangs the whole time he was in the NFL? Hernandez was a one time thing and had a long history of gang ties. Im sure IF there was any worry about REAL gang ties the Eagles would of known a long time ago. But hey, lets keep the racist.

UMike

Oh well... he has millions and someone else will pay him millions more lol

30CINCO

Did you read the report? There are pictures of him throwing up "gang" signs, pictures of him with an "affiliate" who was just released from jail, after he and another "affiliate" were accused of murdering a 14 year old kid, because the kid did rival "gang signs" to them. Both guys were in the car, one was acquitted the other found not guilty, hence the picture of him being released. This was back in 2010. DeSean has even done the "gang sign" thing in games, on tv. There was a cop who was interviewed in the story, he said if DeSean wasnt in the gang, members of the gang would not have let him get away with doing the sign without repercussion. Plenty of pictures out there with "gang" members. The Eagles are out to make money, having DeSean helps them make more by helping them win, but is it worth the trouble and baggage he brings? Apparently not, but someone else will take a chance.

For clarification, I wasn't saying I agree with it, but I can see some owners/GM/etc having this thought process.

LOL. Well, it is AG's defense everyone knows that ;-) I wonder of D'No goes along with it because that's his boss and he brought him along or he just thinks it works too?

UMike

EVERY athlete these days throws up some sort of sign, or what appears to look like "gang signs"... like Fat Joe said "these ****** even made gang signs commercial". Lebron James in Instagram pictures throws signs up, its the new "cool" thing to do lol... I understand why an owner might be worried, but come on. I bet over half the players in the NFL know a gang member. Most of these athletes dont come from the best areas, especially the Cali kids. JMO... seems to be a little overboard, especially for the best player on your team. It was probably just a little part of the reason, like you said reports are he and Kelly didnt see eye to eye etc.

I go agree someone will take a "chance" on him.
