The No. 11 Miami Hurricanes totaled 16 hits en route to a 10-2 win over #20 Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon to finish off the three-game sweep.
Miami (32-13) improved to 19-1 in its last 20 games by scoring two runs apiece in the first, fourth and fifth innings. The Hurricanes then scored four runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.
Miami's Alex Hernandez had a career-high four hits to lead the Hurricanes, who had six players with double-digit hits.
Steve Wilkerson hit a single in the seventh inning to become the 45th Tiger in the ACC era (1954-14) to join the 200-hit club. It also extended his hitting streak to 10 games, his fifth career double-digit hitting streak, for the Tigers (25-19, 12-11 ACC).
UM starter Bryan Radziewski (4-2) allowed just one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched to earn the win. Clemson starter Jake Long (2-3) suffered the loss.

CANES WIN 19 OUT OF LAST 20!! THIS TEAM IS ON FIRE.. ALABAMA ST THIS WEEKEND SHOULD BE A SWEEP. HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET A TOP 8 SEED AND HOST AT THE CRIB!!!

Best part of the current bb team's outstanding performance: it's great when the canes win, it improves our ranking, improves the odds of us hosting a regional (& maybe super-regional)
2nd best part of the win streak: no noise from the obnoxious fire Morris crowd

Hell I should just hop on the bus with ASU and come down for the weekend since the campus is a mile and a half away from me, but they will not let me on the bus with all my Canes gear on lol. Go Canes!

Many posters were calling for Morris's head earlier this season, patience is a virtue especially in baseball. Keep it rolling Canes!!!

Everyone on here knows I am as big a cane baseball fan as anyone. And yes, the canes are on fire and have won 19 of 20. And I'm gonna root for them and follow them whether they are on this streak or if they had lost 19 of 20. With that said, this win streak does not by any means make me or any other true Cane baseball fan forget the terrible recruiting and play on the field over the last 6 or so years under Morris. Hopefully he is pulling a Bowden, and handing the reigns to Dimare.

This is what's called having an agenda. I'm a true canes fan, and this team is making me forget the last few years, but some people would rather be right to further their beloved agenda, rather than enjoying this success. It's not like Morris never won anything before.
Also, please don't bring up Mike Martin or Sulley. Tell me what you see when you look in their baseball trophy cases.
Posted by: Lurker | April 27, 2014 at 06:42 PM
Morris has made some errors the last few years, specifically chasing guys he had zero chance of ever getting on campus.
Losing these guys to the draft then scrambling has hurt the program, but I think they are doing a better job going after guys they can actually sign and develop.

Go canes, I agree. And it all started with Morris bringing Dimare back. This years freshman class including: Brian Garcia, cooper hammand, Collins and abreu, is awesome.

This is really big. UF's non conference scheduling is going to have one less cream puff to beat up on. Hopefully this will open the door to playing them again in the near future.

Morris has deserved all the heat he's been getting especially over the last 3 years. The defensive performances had been inexcusably deteriorating year by year over a period of 5 years.

The Work 4-27
**Brad Kaaya got some big news this week as he is officially good to go for May 18th enrollment. Previously, Kaaya was unsure if he would be here in May or late June. Obviously the sooner he gets on campus, the better his chances are to win the starting job.
**Dexter Williams’ recruitment could be a roller-coaster ride for Miami fans. I spoke to sources on the Williams side as well as the Miami side and both tell me it will be very difficult to keep him committed the entire cycle. UF feels confident that they are very much in the picture for him and Miami knows that the Gators are a real threat. In other words, don’t be surprised to see a drama-filled recruitment whether Williams signs with Miami or not.
**Also at the running back spot, UF and FSU are still in pursuit of Jordan Cronkrite. Florida State was at Westminster last week and conveyed that message to him. Travaris Robinson at UF is still keeping in contact as well. It is highly unlinkely that there will be anything to worry about here, but it is a good sign for Cronkrite as a prospect that both of those schools still want him.
**Any reports of Trayone Gray officially qualifying for Miami are premature at this point. Miami is more confident than before, but they have not received any information that leads them to believe that he is in the clear. If Gray does get in, look for him to start out at RB.
**Miami is very high on newest commit Quentez Johnson. He was right near the top of their wish list at the defensive tackle spot. The Canes plucked him out of SEC country so they will need to keep recruiting him if he blows up the way they think he will. He is built a lot like 2014 signee Courtel Jenkins.
**Deon Cain is a major target for Miami right now. He is one of Golden’s favorite all-around prospects in this class. It would be a monster pull considering the other schools recruiting him. Larry Scott has taken the reigns with Golden.
**Tyrek Cole remains the priority at the cornerback spot for Miami and the chances with him remain very good. A defensive back class with him, Tim Irvin, and JaQuan Johnson is potentially special.
**Look for a number of new offers to go out this week.
**Here are the current weights of a few signees who will be enrolling on May 18th:
Demetrius Jackson: 226
Chad Thomas: 245
Brad Kaaya: 230
Courtel Jenkins: 317

The NFC scout said Pat O’Donnell, one of the top five punter prospects, “is better than some of the punters in the league now. What a weapon.”
That scout said he wasn’t impressed with any of UM’s seven draft-eligible defensive ends and linebackers. “Not like it used to be at Miami at those positions,” he said…. Tight end Asante Cleveland, defensive end David Gilbert (the Dolphins had him break down film), offensive lineman Jared Wheeler and defensive linemen Shayon Green, Luther Robinson and Curtis Porter should get a look in an NFL camp. So might UM basketball player Erik Swoope, who has auditioned for the Dolphins and three other teams as a potential tight end.

Posted by: 86Cane | April 27, 2014 at 11:36 PM
^^ Exactly. Ryan Williams is a stick figure at 6'6, 225. Kaayaat 6'4, 230 is built but not excessive. 5-10 more lbs max and he's NFL prototype size.

Quentez Johnson is a nice pick up, but will be a battle to keep him. Hid hasa lot of big time offers but only a few from the SEC, once those big time SEC offers come this staff will have to put in more work. Probably should be a 4-Star right now.

There’s an element of mystery surrounding some of the state’s top NFL draft prospects because four have red flags unrelated to performance: UM offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson (suspensions for marijuana use); UF cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy (marijuana possession arrest and suspension); UF cornerback Marcus Roberson (suspension last November for team rules violation) and UF defensive tackle Dominique Easley (has had ACL tears in each knee).
Some buzz on the state prospects as we close in on the draft, May 8-10:
### Hurricanes: This UM draft class elicits as much frustration as optimism. One longtime NFC scout was bemoaning how disappointed he was that the impressive physical tools of Stephen Morris and Henderson didn’t translate into more consistent play.
The scout said there’s no question about Morris’ arm --– and there are no character questions --– but he’s not sure he can even be a No. 2 quarterback in the league.
“He’ll throw late to receivers, or on a crossing pattern, the ball will sail on him,” the scout said, aware that Morris understandably attributed some of last season’s mechanical issues to an Achilles’ injury. “I’m not sure he judges the speed of the receivers coming across the middle. He’s 50/50 on his throws; his misses are more high than low. The accuracy and vision are concerns.”
Nolan Nawrocki --- in his outstanding NFL Draft preview book (Triumph Books) --- said Morris is a fifth- or sixth-rounder who “struggles to handle pressure and presses to create plays. Eyes drop to the rush very quickly and vacates the pocket prematurely. Makes too many head-scratching decisions and makes his receivers consistently work for the ball. Has moldable talent for a backup role and enough raw tools to pique the interest of a patient quarterbacks coach.”
Beyond questions about Henderson’s character and marijuana use at UM, one scout said “he couldn’t draw up formations” when he met with him at the NFL Combine.
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said Henderson has high bust potential. “No consistency with this kid at all,” Mayock said. “From a talent perspective, he's a first- or second-round talent. But he’s probably a fourth-round kid just because you don't know what you're getting. If you can take Brandon Linder’s toughness and tenacity and place it in Seantrel Henderson’s body, you’ll have a first-round pick.”
NFL.com’s Nawrocki said Henderson “already has been removed from many draft boards” but still could go in the second or third round.
Scouts like Linder as a late-round pick. “He’s smart enough to be a guard/center swing guy, and a lot of guys can’t do that,” the scout said. “He was very impressive at his Pro Day.” Said Draftinsider.com’s Tony Pauline: “Miami coaches have been raving about Linder's character and his grade is rising.”…
One scout said he was impressed that Allen Hurns’ yards per catch jumped dramatically from 11.2 as a junior to 18.7 as a senior. “Maybe he’s a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver,” the scout said. “I would consider him in the fifth, sixth round.”
Mayock said Hurns’ issue “is that he's got average size and speed. I don't see him separating in man‑to‑man press coverage very easily. He's not overly big or fast. So how does he fit in? He's got to be crafty; he's got to run great routes.”…
