FROM CBS SPORTS:
In March, the U.S. Department of Edcuation's Office of Civil Rights reportedly began an investigation into Florida State's handling of the Jameis Winston sexual assault allegations. School officials did not seek to question Winston or involved teammates Chris Casher and Ronald Darby until January 2014, after which Casher and Darby were reportedly cited by the school for code of conduct violations.
Winston faced no such citation, and an attorney for his accuser told USA Today in a Friday report that the reason was simple: on the advice of his legal counsel, Winston had refused to cooperate.
"The university took the position that since he refused to respond to questions, they could not make any Title IX findings," attorney Baine Kerr said. "We have objected to that as impermissible reason to delay or terminate a Title IX sexual assault investigation because that would permit any charged party to thwart an investigation simply by refusing to answer questions."
Kerr has asked Florida State to re-open its investigation and charge Winston with code of conduct violations. The school declined to comment to USA Today, though in a statement responding to Wednesday's New York Times report on both the Tallahassee police and Florida State investigations of the claims against Winston, the school vehemently defended its handling of the case.
The Times reported that a police email showed that an athletic department official was aware of the complaint against Winston in January 2013, a full year before the school opened its own investigation, as required by Title IX.
Winston's accuser filed a complaint over the school's response with the Office of Civil Rights in March, prompting its inquiry into whether the school had followed Title IX guidelines.

Though UM’s Corn Elder, back from a knee injury, wants to play football and basketball, his future might be brighter in football, with coaches privately raving about his potential at cornerback.
“That guy is going to be a stud for us,” cornerback Tracy Howard predicted last week. “He’s got better ball skills than I’ve ever seen.”
### James Kelly's announcement that he's transferring is no big loss for the UM basketball program. Kelly was immature and not necessarily an ACC rotation player, according to one UM source.... UM hoped to lure Tennessee State fifth-year senior power forward MJ Rhett, but he told ESPN he will sign with Mississippi. Rhett had planned to visit UM on Monday.

INTERVIEW WITH CUTCLIFF AT DUKE:
Roster attrition can really serve as a setback to a college football program, but haven’t experienced much attrition at all during your tenure at Duke. You don’t give lip-service to recruiting high character people, so how does your staff decide who you believe can be successful at Duke for 4-5 years in this academic environment coupled with your system?
Cutcliffe: We have standards and if you look over your left shoulder that’s our recruiting room. [a board room type of setting adjacent to Coach Cutcliffe’s office] It looks like a focused room. None of us are as smart as all of us, so when we evaluate, we may individually evaluate certain things but before we make an offer, all of us are going to watch, talk, and converse. There are a series of things that I like to know about every player and so we’re going to discuss those things that involve character, integrity, academic habits, social habits, and we now have the ability to look at how a young man uses social media. We do that. At Duke, we don’t have people leave. We sign 15. We may sign 18, but usually not more than that. We absolutely want to know who we are signing. We’re not going to compromise talent, but mostly we’re not going to compromise our values for talent. That’s easier to say than to do. I hear people that say that, but then I look and I’m not really sure they are doing that. I think I’ve been guilty of doing that (earlier in my career) – trying to sign the best available player. At Duke, we are a developmental program and I am proud of that. We are not a one & done, which in our world (football) you could call it three & done. I really believe that we can play with some of our freshmen, which we have, and then some of them are going to redshirt. We’re a program that expects guys in their fourth and fifth years to be really grown up through our system, understand the values of Duke football, understand our practice habits, understand what we do in the strength & conditioning program, understand what is expected academically – all of those things are systematic. I’ve done this for a long time and I’ve tried to get better. If there’s one thing we’re doing even better, it’s that we’re adhering to our system. A system is in place here.

But, but, but.... Corn shouldn't be on defense!!
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | April 19, 2014 at 09:38 AM
Corn should be on offense, RB and slot WR.
Elder and Berrios in a four wide with Coley and Dorsett would be MURDER on a defense. If U left Duke in at RB with no TE then U would have five players on the field who could house the ball for 6 at any given moment.
I like that. Yeah, I like that a lot.
Posted by: SOUP | April 19, 2014 at 10:48 AM
Ohio...BTW if U are trying to say that the UM coaches know more than some guy who runs a blog, has season tickets and parks at E5 that's just crazy talk. Perish the tought. How utterly ridiculous! LOL

ESPN 30 for 30 Bad Boys on Thursday was so good I watched it again last night. I That was a tough team. They were rough at times, but the whole league played that way. They were just better at banging and boarding and defending. I never was an Isaiah fan, but watching him I found a new respect for him. That was a tough little guy. They took down all the big dogs the pretty boys in LA and Boston, and the beginnings of the Jordan era were held down a few years more. It was a great documentary about a lot of great players and a great league which is a shadow of itself now. JMO

Alabama has basically had the top spot in recruiting the last five years. So what. It's not like they have unlimited scholarships. Rivals has them at 15 commitments. That leaves +/- 10 slots, based on whatever their roster is right now. Yes they are getting key guys, but they will be removing themselves from the equation as they approach the roster limit and we and other teams go after other players.
