NFL Hall of Famer and University of Miami football great Michael Irvin will host the 4th Annual Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys/University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame (UMSHoF) Celebrity Dolphin Fishing Tournament June 27-28 in Islamorada, Fla.
Event activities will take place at Founders Park at Mile Marker 87 and Coconut Cove Resort and Marina at Mile Marker 85 on the Overseas Highway. All Hurricanes fans are welcome and invited to participate and attend or observe the events.
The tournament weekend will begin Friday evening with a kick-off party and captains’ meeting followed on Saturday by a full day of fishing, awards dinner and live and silent auctions featuring unique sports memorabilia as well as a variety of gift packages.
This is the only fishing event of its kind that matches participants with former Miami Hurricanes sports stars for the competition. Cash prizes and trophies will be presented to anglers in eight categories. A portion of the tournament proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys, The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis and the UMSHoF.
“This tournament reflects the Hall of Fame’s mission,” said K.C. Jones, president of the UMSHoF, a 2008 hall inductee, two-time Super Bowl winner with the Denver Broncos and founder of the tournament.
“Not only can University of Miami sports fans celebrate the accomplishments of our former student-athletes, they can compete side-by-side with them while raising money for local causes. We are on track for 100 boats to participate in this year’s tournament.”
Irvin added: “This is really all about the U and our family of Hurricanes fans and former student-athletes. We must embrace the mission of the UMSHoF, which is an organization that recognizes the tremendous efforts of our Hurricanes athletes, coaches and administrators.”
Former Hurricanes sports stars scheduled to participate include NFL Hall of Famer and 2012 Tournament Host Warren Sapp (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders), NFL Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks (Baltimore Colts, Green Bay Packers, Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders), Clinton Portis (Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins), Brett Romberg (Jacksonville Jaguars, St. Louis Rams, Atlanta Falcons), Gary Dunn (Pittsburgh Steelers), Damione Lewis (St. Louis Rams, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Houston Texans), and Randal Hill (Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints).

I tried to tell you Lurker. I was probably the first. You gotta have more to add here than just insulting VERY good bloggers and killing conversations. Eventually people start seeing your troll-like behavior. I'm not trying to start arguing with you again, but you are lurking back into your troll-like ways.

Thompson back in the middle of the lineup will really be good, not liking him as a fielder though..... hope he is back though if we make the CWS.... Great kid, though guy.
Lurker tell me what you think of Patchan. I think Patchan would be AWESOME with a RS year. Pathan is lONG but he is LEAN, prob will show up around 230, if he could EE it would be great but a RS year would do him wonders. Let him bulk up to 255 or so at 6'5.5 with his first step he would be Elite. Guys i saw this kid at camp and the staff was DROOLING over this kid, he was neck and neck with Chad Thomas who he was dueling with in the drills.

Got to love Rivals... this is the header for a JJ article..
"Miami Killian High School DB Jaquan Johnson remains a high priority Cane commitment. And his good friend Jordan Cronkrite, a recent UM commitment, is working to get him on board with UM. So what's the latest with Johnson? Don't miss what he's talking about."
In one short paragraph them manage to call him a commit AND say UM is working to get him on board. SMH
Posted by: UMike | May 02, 2014 at 07:59 AM
Hassan, if he was neck and neck with Chad Thomas then that's great news. As far as Patchan red shirting, that would be the best situation if we can do it. There's a few guys that could have benefitted from a RS year, but we've been having yo throw them out there.
Posted by: Lurker | May 02, 2014 at 08:05 AM
Also according to Rivals Miami is going hard after 3-Star DB Carlton Davis from Norland. Kid has a pretty good offer sheet with Bama, Florida, Miami, Clemson UGA and others.
Posted by: UMike | May 02, 2014 at 08:08 AM
Thanks Lurker. Him being Neck in Neck with Chad Thomas is my opinion based on what i saw at that camp, but they re-ran the drill 4-5 times because they could not determine a winner. Patchan has great balance, a good first step and a great motor. of course he is young so his hand placement sucks and he needs to get bigger but to me with getting Chad Thomas that gives us a luxary of being able to RS a guy like Patchan a year behind him.
Posted by: Hassan | May 02, 2014 at 08:11 AM
Patchan will be behind McCord, AQM, Thomas, Jackson etc so it looks like he will be a red shirt.
Posted by: UMike | May 02, 2014 at 08:14 AM
Patchan has a VERY! good 1st step.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 02, 2014 at 08:34 AM
I have a very good first step also, but by the 5th or 6th step Im out of breath haha
Posted by: UMike | May 02, 2014 at 08:38 AM
Just found out a kid I used to coach, has committed to one of the Big 3. I have nothing to do with His accomplishment, as He was a stud anyway, but it's still good to hear.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 02, 2014 at 08:52 AM
Hassan, even if he's doing 80% of what Chad is doing, that's still elite in my book.
Posted by: Lurker | May 02, 2014 at 08:56 AM
LOL UMike same here very tired after about the 5th step.

UM has overcome a slow start, and the Canes (32-13) are now the hottest team in the nation, having won 19 of their past 20 games.
BY SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN
[email protected]
Tyler Palmer, Willie Abreu and Zack Collins say they knew all along that this year’s Hurricanes baseball team was a winner.
It just took a little while for reality to catch up to talent.
The three, who hit for a composite .472 at Clemson last weekend as the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 batters in the lineup, are part of a Hurricanes contingent that has kept Miami the hottest team in the nation since late March.
Evidence:
The Canes (32-13 overall), in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference (19-5), are 19-1 in their past 20 games.
UM, ranked as high as fourth by Collegiate Baseball and 10th by Baseball America, has the nation’s longest road-winning streak of 12 games.
UM is 11-1 in one-run games this season.
Miami’s starting rotation of left-handers Chris Diaz (7-0), Andrew Suarez (4-2) and Bryan Radziewski (4-2) have combined to allow only 25 earned runs in their past 15 starts.
Freshman closer Bryan Garcia has 13 saves and a 1.98 ERA.
“It’s crazy, right?” said outfielder/designated hitter Abreu, one of several freshmen who are contributing to the resurgence of a program that has four national titles but has not been to Omaha, Neb., for the College World Series since 2008. “Like I said in the beginning of the year, we just had to get used to playing with each other.
“Now we’re rolling, and it feels great.”

From CIS:
Carlton Davis & Jaquan Johnson Rivals
Carlton Davis
-Says "I've been talking to coaches - coach Hurlie (Brown), coach Paul Williams and coach (Al) Golden," . "They talk about the facilities, what a great place Miami would be for me."
-Says UM "is one of the schools recruiting me hardest - South Carolina is also recruiting me that hard. Those are the two showing me the most interest."
-plans to narrow things down this summer.
-Says UM "They'll make it for sure,"
-hopes to announce a final decision before his senior season.
-Says "I want to do it before the season just in case anything happens (injury-wise so he will still have a scholarship),"
-Says a draw for him to UM's program is that "it's close to home. My family just loves UM because it's the hometown school. They say they want me to go to Miami - I say `I'm thinking about it.'"
-Says Of what he's looking for in a college program, "Education - the classes, if they're crowded or more one-on-one with the teacher. And the environment, whether there's a large fan base, beautiful weather. And also the program, how the team's doing, and the depth chart. I want to play early."
Jaquan Johnson
-On Jordan Cronkrite "We're close friends," "He says I should come to Miami."
- in no rush to make a decision, though. He says he hasn't narrowed anything down. So far he's taken unofficial visits to Miami, Florida State, Florida, UCF and USF, and he's planning to take out of state trips by the end of summer as well.
-summer visit stops as LSU, Alabama, Louisville and Ohio State.
-Says "I'm looking for a place where I want to live for four years," "I'll be looking at the players that are there, who I'll be looking up to. And the coaches, my coach, the DB coach, I have to have a good relationship with him."
-communicates on a daily basis with Hurricane coaches.
-Says "They tell me about the new uniforms, their facilities," "They say they want me to be a part of their program, that I can be a big difference maker on their team."
-plans to name a top five at some point before his season begins.
-Asked if UM will make the cut -Says "It's a big possibility. Miami talks to me all the time. They are one of the best schools that keep in communication with me all the time."
-Says of Miami's program that "I just like how they play young players. I've been to practices, and the intensity is amazing and how the coaching is. That's what I really like about that."

Lurker,
you can criticize my football attacks, ideas, philosophies, and schemes all you want. That is never a problem. They work for me and my teams have been very successful for 36 years, but that does not put them off limits.
I started umpiring baseball at 12, working at the Rec Dept in my home town. I called a lot of games and got to know a lot of kids. As a sophomore, I began participating in baseball and football clinics for kids. At 55, I have been involved with kids for 43 years. Coaching, encouraging, mentoring, teaching, tudoring, umpiring, and trying to lead and show young people to a better life. I have coached ages 6-21. Boys and girls. Football, baseball, basketball, track, wrestling, and softball. Sandlot, middle school, high school and college. I do all in my power to see them succeed in Life Family School Sports in that order. I have 2 young men in the NFL. I have 17 playing college football and baseball. I expect 2 to be drafted next week. They reached these heights on their own. I like to think I helped a little along life's road. I have never made a dime doing this, but I feel like the worlds richest man. Maybe you have never experienced the elation of helping the young people; say what you may, they are the future for you and I.
So when you make a snide remark; and it was meant to be, you know it, questioning how I work with my team does anger me. You have not been on here long, but these good people will tell you this is my calling, my lifes work. I am dedicated to developing young people in the 4 phases I listed above, and I am a fair taskmaster. Life is all about TEAM in everything we do regardless of race, color, creed, religion, or gender. Thats my mission in a nutshell. I have said my piece, and will comment on this no more.
"There comes a time when you realize that you are closer to the end than to the beginning. You wonder whether it was all worthwhile; whether your being there at any time made any difference at all".
-Colonel Nicholson
Bridge Over The River Kwai
Not bragging or gloating, but I can say yes it has been worthwhile and yes I made a difference; I am elated to have had the opportunity.

I can remember not that many years ago when I ran sprints with my guys, even at 45 46 I could really run. Now my guys are so fast I don't bother.....they are burners big time. They love to ride me about my legendary speed... their words not mine. I was a blazer in college and HS. I remember Curtis Dickey from TA&M running a second half kickoff back against us 104 yards. After the game I was chatting up is fullback, George Woodard, who introduced me to CD. He was real modest, shy....hell of a tailback. So I am saying man you are super fast...hell he ran like a 9.7 hundred was a world class sprinter, track guy and all. Woodard says CD tell him about your hundred this spring...1976 you still ran 100 yd dash. CD says well it was fast....I had heard the 9.7 deal. Woodard is egging him on tell him tell him..CD says 10.35 flat....I am confused....Woodard goes finish it man lay it on the man....CD says..well..in full pads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unreal speed.....that is fast shit!!!!
