We interrupt our normal blogging on this Memorial Day 2014 to offer a very sincere THANK U to all of the men and women who defend freedom!
For all of those incredibly brave men and women who have served in the U.S armed forces and who have literally put their lives on the line to protect and defend the United States of America this blog is for U.
For all of the courageous men and women who recognized that freedom isn't free and found it necessary to put themselves in harms way we thank U.
For all of those Army soldiers who have fearlessly risked their lives to defend our Country in World Wars, regional conflicts and in other military battles against terrorists we honor U.
For all of those Navy sailors, who save the free world on the open seas, without concern for their own safety to defend the world's oceans we recognize U.
For all of those highly skilled Air Force pilots and their support crews who defend our airspace with their incredible talent and ability we salute U.
And for all of those who served as a Marine like my father who faught in Korea and served as a Staff Sargent in Camp LeJune, NC may God bless you and keep you safe and well. It's not easy being first in and last out.
We wish all American defense personnel and all U.S. citizens across our great Nation the peace, freedom and security that all sovereign Nations deserve.
We would like to take this opporuntity to wish all of our armed forces and all of our Canespace Nation family and friends a safe, happy and fun Memorial Day.
Miami Hurricane fans salute U and ask that God Bless America!
I second Soup thoughts.

Analyst is certain UM will host baseball regional
BY WALTER VILLA
SPECIAL TO THE MIAMI HERALD
Despite dropping the first two games of this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, the University of Miami baseball team is a “100 percent lock” to host a regional next weekend.
That’s according to Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt, an expert in the field. Fitt said the Canes are still in line to be one of 16 national seeds and thus potentially host a super regional.
But to do that, Fitt said, the Canes must beat Duke on Saturday, and it wouldn’t hurt if Texas Christian lost in the Big 12 tournament.
The Canes, who won the ACC regular-season title, lost to Georgia Tech and Clemson in the first two games of the tournament, dropping their RPI to 15th in the nation.
UM WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Canes’ streak of reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament in women’s tennis for five consecutive years ended last week with a 4-0 loss to third-ranked UCLA.
Still, no Canes program has had more success lately than women’s tennis, which has made the Sweet 16 round for nine consecutive years.
For next season, the Canes will have to replace graduating seniors Monique Albuquerque (who was 18-0 until losing to UCLA), Melissa Bolivar and Brittany Dubins.
Miami will return its top three players: juniors Stephanie Wagner and Clementina Riobueno, and senior Lina Lileikite.

Thank U ALL military! Past, present, and future!
I don't know if every HS does this, but my alma mater has graduates immediately entering military to stand and be recognized at the beginning of the ceremony at graduation. Watched my little sister graduate HS yesterday and they did this. Thought it was awesome, especially considering what weekend it is.

Honor Courage Commitment
Posted by: SinisterCane | May 24, 2014 at 08:17 AM
I thank all the courageous men and women in all the branches of the military who unconditionally serve their nation. I remember and thank all of those who have died defending the freedom we live under due to their commitment.
I think of my father today, as he was wounded in Korea as a Marine in 1950. My older cousin Billy served 3 tours in Vietnam as a chopper pilot and was fortunate to come home. I think of many of my players who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan; I have several who did not make it home while serving their country.
I hope we can get things corrected with the VA Health System, as we have made a promise to care for our troops. We must put aside our philosophical and political differences, be grateful and thankful to all troops past, present and those to come, and together as Americans find a positive solution to this untimely setback.....Together as Americans.
God bless and watch over all our troops, and God bless our Special Cane troops out there doing a much tougher task than football. Iraqi, ColdCane, CaneSince82, and Hassy we all thank you for all you do.
If I had you on my football team, we would never lose another game!!! God Bless and Godspeed!!
Sincerely,
VAC

Col. Jessep: You want answers?
Kaffee: I think I'm entitled to.
Col. Jessep: *You want answers?*
Kaffee: *I want the truth!*
Col. Jessep: *You can't handle the truth!*
[pauses]
Col. Jessep: Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

My sincere thanks and never ending respect to all of those, as Ohio said "Past, present, and future!" that have chosen the life of service to our country.
That sacrifice is what makes this country so great and allows the rest of us to to have the freedoms we enjoy.

We should be ok to host a Regional. I hope. You never know with the NCAA, they don't really like 3 State teams to host 3 Regionals. FSU and Florida are both seeded locks. If that's the case, i'd just assume head out of State as a #2 seed and see if this team can Buck the hell up. With the 3 starters they have, there's now way they can't rip of 5 straight Wins and make Omaha as an underdog. Just got to field n get far more timely hitting.
Salute Troops ...

Hurricanes Baseball @CanesBaseball
Phenomenal at bat from Brandon Lopez, who takes the 11th pitch he sees from Huber to center for a sacrifice fly; #Canes leading 4-2 T-8
Posted by: 86Cane | May 24, 2014 at 01:52 PM
That was a clutch, great at bat by Lopez. Heading to the bottom of the 9th with the canes up 4-2. Brian Garcia gives up a 2 run hr and we are now heading to the bottom of the 10th tied 4-4. So disappointing. Get it to the 11th and let's go Canes
Posted by: Aerocane | May 24, 2014 at 02:40 PM
Btw - to show what a crazy sport baseball is: Garcia hadn't given up a hr all year and the duke guy who hit it, did not have a hr all year. Crazy
Posted by: Aerocane | May 24, 2014 at 02:44 PM
Rough ninth, bottom of the 10th, man on 1st, now out #2 for Duke, still tied at 4.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 02:46 PM
now it's the top of the 11th. C'mon, Aero.... Get some good juju going our way!
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 02:47 PM
Top of the 11th, Canes already with 2 down, nobody on.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 02:53 PM
To the bottom of the 11th we go. Too many nailbiters for this team lately, although they'd been winning most of them over the last 6 weeks. They can't let this one slip away.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 02:55 PM
Duke with runner on 1st, one out, bottom 11th still.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 02:58 PM
2 outs....still runner on 1st. C'mon, D. Let's get to the 12th.

Carey at 3rd, one out....let's plate the runner....
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:10 PM
Oops. Make that runner at 3rd with Carey at bat.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:10 PM
Canes take the lead, up 5-4, still top of the 12th!!!!
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:11 PM
Two down, 6-4 lead, good top of the 12th!
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:15 PM
Out 3, to the bottom of the 12, time to hold the lead and wrap up one game in the tnmt.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:16 PM
Duke half of the 12th, first batter goes down. Next batter, now on 1st, as seems to be the case every inning with this pitching staff toward the end of games the last few days.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:21 PM
Runners now on 1st and 2nd, still one out, and now with the potential game winner at the plate for the Blue Devils....yuck. Hammond on the mound for the U.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:22 PM
Big out, now 2 outs, two on, need to get this batter down and end it.
Posted by: jcane | May 24, 2014 at 03:24 PM
