NEW BLOG IS UP!

Terrance Sullivan

So Teddy "Throat Slashing the U" Bridgewater got drafted in the 1st round, I know some people are happy for him not me. I didn't care one way or the other about the guy and seem like he was okay but when he pulled that ish. He was dead to me. JMO.

BEERicane

Tony, RBs are as coveted as they used to be. He's no AP so wouldn't be surprised to see duke slip to 2nd rd

TonyCane

Miami will have at least one next year(Duke)

BEERicane

Buffalo had one, too -- top 5. Damn how far the u (lowercase intentional) has fallen

86Cane

Louisville had 3 players taken in the first round.

UF had 1

VT had 1

UNC had 1

Pitt had 1

Clemson had 1

FSU had 1

UM had none.

86Cane

Teddy goes #32 to Minnesota?

NICE!

VAC. Congratulations! Great story thank you for sharing. Many years have passed since you coached him but clearly the lessons taught have stayed with the young man.

fmcane

VA you are truly an inspiration! I have been blessed to have some great coaches over the years through city leagues and playing at St. Thomas but I gotta say my middle school lacrosse coach I still receive life lessons from and I will be blessed to have he and his wife at my wedding this year. In fact a big shout out to all the spacers who commit themselves to making an impact in there community!

VA Cane

I had one of the proudest moments of my life tonight. I actually cried tears of joy. The draft is on, and as they announce the invited players, I was a little overcome with the emotion of coaching a young man 7 years and seeing his 6'8' 350 pound frame cross that stage. Morgan Moses is a fine young man, and not only will he be drafted, but he is graduating with honors from UVA. It is Mr Jeffersons University, and a fine school.

I love the young man, and he sent me a text today to tell me he felt the same. Amazing how your players never seem to forget you when you make a commitment to them.

There are going to be haters in life everywhere. Racists, negative people, doubting Thomases...you name it they are always like little thorns in ones side.

Heck, we have a few people on here who hate to see others succeed, or question their approach to game, their schemes, their methods, their commitment to trying to coach kids into winners in Life Family School Football; The Life Plan!!! They always feel the need to try and make that cutting, snide remark. However, that is their right to do so.

Young men like Morgan Moses, who I coached from flag to 8th grade, is why I have been doing this for so long. He has reached the pinnacle in all 4 phases of OUR Life Plan Commitment. I am so proud of him and what HE has done, and I thank The Almighty for allowing me the honor of being part of this young mans life. He will go much further in life, and he will make big tracks on the land!!!

Manny:

If you are a high school football recruit and you aren't considered a four- or five-star recruit there is no need to panic. Your chances of being a future NFL first round pick aren't impossible.

Don't believe me? I spent this afternoon looking up the recruiting backgrounds of the Top 50 NFL Draft Prospects according to ESPN and found some intriguing information on how many stars they were given in high school.

Of the top 50 players expected to be taken over the next three days, Rivals.com rated 26 either 4- or 5-star recruits and 24 were 3-star recruits or worse according to the scouting website.

Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/hssports/2014/05/almost-half-of-top-50-nfl-draft-prospects-were-3-star-high-school-recruits-or-worse.html#storylink=cpy

And O_C, I don't know if you remember this, but there was a "cloud" over the program then. You had the Willie Cooper shooting, and Pata got murdered that year. Now that cloud didn't effect the program like the NCAA cloud (not trying to minimize gun violence), but I do remember a quite a few parents didn't want there kids going to UM because in light of those 2 incidents.

CaneRock

Randy took over on Dec 8th, so not sure how many between Nov 28th and Dec 8th they got though.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | May 08, 2014 at 05:02 PM

Only 2...Daniel Adderley on 11/28/06, and Ojomo on 12/08/06. But Addereley & Ojomo were for sure RS gets.

Ohio_Cane

Randy took over on Dec 8th, so not sure how many between Nov 28th and Dec 8th they got though.

CaneRock

And Manziel's Pro Day means nothing to me, hell, Tebow had a great Pro Day...whu' happened?

CaneRock

And as far as the NFL draft is concerned, no way in hell that Manziel, should be considered a better prospect than Teddy B. Playing QB in the NFL, is all about having a nervous system that's ICE COLD!, and having eye & arm talent. And IMO, Manziel has NEITHER! Hell, SM17's attributes translate better to the NFL, than Manziel...

CaneRock

But DAMN! Ohio_Cane, our lil' discussion just revealed the obvious. Both RS & Golden, only had 4 commits between em', when they took over. SMDH!

CaneRock

Can we talk about the draft or the ACC, or the UM baseball team or the 2014 football schedule? Anything but Shannon!

Posted by: 86Cane | May 08, 2014 at 04:30 PM

LMAO! But SOUP, we're talking about Coker, too LMAO!

CaneRock

Correct. Now I don't have a link or anything to confirm this, but he was given more than 2 commits when he was hired, unlike Golden.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | May 08, 2014 at 04:18 PM

Per Miami Scout:

Kayne Farquharson committed on 6/12/2006.
Harland Gunn committed on 3/6/2006.

The rest of em' committed from 11/28/2006, to 2/7/2007.

Now unless the rest of em' were silent commits to Coker, who went ahead and pulled the trigger despite a coaching change, then yeah, RS only had 2 commits.

86Cane

Can we talk about the draft or the ACC, or the UM baseball team or the 2014 football schedule? Anything but Shannon!

Ohio_Cane

Ohio_Cane...IIRC, RS got the job in November/December, and very much like Golden, He had to scramble to put a recruiting class together.

Javarris James
Kenny Phillips
Calais Campbell
Jason Fox
Tavares Gooden
Colin McCarthy
Randy Phillips
Glenn Sharpe
Daryl Sharpton
Sam Shields

Hell, I can't really think of a 2 year starter that Coker left Randy with...somebody refresh my memory.

I'll bite. This is Randy's first year as HC (2007), AKA the team Coker left for Randy:

Allen Bailey
Damien Berry
Lee Chambers
Graig Cooper
Kayne Farquharson
Orlando Franklin
Harland Gunn
Leonard Hankerson
Tyler Horn
Joseph Nicolas
Adewale Ojomo
DeMarcus Van Dyke

So ya, the cupboard wasn't bare...

Me and Ariz's convo on twitter just now regarding new QB offer Daniel Parr from Dwyer:

Canespace ‏@86Cane 25m

Canespace ‏@86Cane 13m

@PeterAriz I should've said Plan B, but I think U got the gist.

Peter Ariz ‏@PeterAriz 4m

@86Cane He's not really a plan B though. Miami thinks is a top-flight QB prospect. Some inside have wanted to offer for months

Canespace ‏@86Cane 22s

@PeterAriz Well that's good news considering Wimbush's pick yesterday and the fact that Gibson is long gone from what it seems.

BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Being down 16 runs after five innings was no problem for a minor league affiliate of the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.

The Clinton LumberKings trailed the Burlington Bees 17-1 after five in a game between clubs based in Iowa. Nineteen runs later, the comeback was complete for Clinton, which wound up winning the Class A Midwest League game 20-17 in 12 innings.

Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | May 08, 2014 at 08:57 AM

You really don't understand the implications of this, do you...

Well let me briefly explain. The players AROUND THE LEAGUE, were seriously contemplating a boycott. Basically, the players were putting the owners, AND the commissioner, on notice..."Either ya'll do something about this guy, or we'll consider you complicit in His THOUGHTS,WORDS, and ACTIONS!" IOWs, the players backed the owners into a corner, and expedited Silver's announcement. And trust me, a boycott is still on the table, if Sterling, or anybody associated with Him, ends up with control of this team.

New NFLPA president Eric Winston said the reason the NFL's plan for HGH testing is on hold is because the players don't agree with the league's stipulation that commissioner Roger Goodell be the final arbitrator in any future disputes around the testing process or the results.

"It's there when [Goodell] wants to sign it," Winston said. "I kind of laugh because it keeps coming up. If he wants HGH testing as bad as he wants to retain his power then we would have had HGH testing last year. At the end of the day that's what this is all about. He wants to hold all the cards and he wants to be the judge, jury and executioner and we're not going to go for an un-American system like that."

86Cane

Can U imagine a UCF player will be taken BEFORE any player from FSU, UF or UM?

11. Tennessee Titans: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida: I've been hearing cornerback or pass rusher for Tennessee the past few weeks, but if Bortles slips all the way to 11, Ken Whisenhunt -- an offensive mind at heart -- may go quarterback. As one coach put it to me at the NFL League Meetings in March, "People scoff at the Roethlisberger comparisons, but watch the way he escapes trouble in the pocket. There's one guy who does it like [Bortles] does, and it's Roethlisberger." Jake Locker's offered mixed results and hasn't been able to stay healthy. The fifth year of his option wasn't picked up last week. The writing's on the wall. If Bortles is on the board, I like him as a Titan.

86Cane

So Bucs fans what do U think?

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M: Jason Licht and Lovie Smith would be awfully happy if the draft played out this way and Evans lands in their laps without having to trade up into the top five. Evans is right up there with Watkins on a few teams' boards, and the value of getting a 6-4 receiver with pass catching ability like Evans at seventh overall is off the charts. If Evans is gone, this pick could be Aaron Donald, the big defensive tackle out of Pitt. And if Manziel is still on the board, this is where it gets interesting.

86Cane

So it looks like Jedd Fisch may get to work with Manziel in Jax? That should be interesting:

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M: For two years, we've been going back and forth on where Johnny Manziel ends up. When it's all said and done, I think Jags GM David Caldwell -- in his second year on the job -- rolls the dice and turns Jacksonville into the most relevant professional team in the state of Florida. Jacksonville is in an ideal spot with the third pick and could go Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins, or Blake Bortles here (I see them going offense, not defense), too. But I think it's Manziel. Pair him with offensive coordinator and wunderkind Jedd Fisch, build an offense around him, and send the CBS trucks there for Week 1's national game.

UMike

I think ESPN reported the team is owned by a "family trust"

UMike

The wife seems to think she is keeping it, or the family is. I wonder how players and fans will react to that.

I just think it'll be interesting if Sterling's estranged wife gets to keep the team. One way or the other, there's gonna be a huge legal payday for LA lawyers in the near future.

UMike

UMike

I dont like that it was a DT that de-commited.. we just have no luck with that position lol

UMike

I dont care if he did or didnt know he was being recorded, his feelings about black people are obvious. Njoku targeting late June arrival

-6-foot-4, 215-lbs on signing day. Since then, he's grown an inch and weighs 230lbs.

-Claims that he's recently tested at a 4.45 40, and a 40 inch vertical.

-Broke the school record in the 200 with a 22.6-second finish (beating the record by .03 seconds), and he also had a 6-10 high jump over the weekend. "I came close to 7-0 1/2," he said.

-Max bench is 285, max squat is 480, and deadlift's 495.

-Njoku won't be able to report for Summer Session I May 18 because his school doesn't end until June 20. "I arrive June 29th," he said. "I'm all set (academically)."

-Unsure if coaches will try him at tight end or receiver.

-Hasn't gotten the UM playbook yet but that he expects it soon.

Shortly after Johnson de-committed, four-star UM oral commitment/defensive end Scott Patchan tweeted: “If you commit to a school, you should be faithful to that school 100 percent. I’m tired of hearing about kids decommitting. Don’t commit then.”
