Seven years is a long time.
A lot can happen in seven years.
A lot has happened in the last seven years on Canespace.
Today, Canespace celebrates its seventh anniversary of bringing you the news you can use about your Miami Hurricanes. And, as we already mentioned, a lot has happened over that time on the blog run "For The Fans, By The Fans".
It was even suggested this past year that the blog's tag line be changed to "Canespace: Ruining Work Productivity One Day At A Time."
Whether you blog all day at work, or from home, or even on the go with your mobile device, we know that you blog and that you blog a lot! Here are the stats for the last seven years to prove it:
Lifetime Page Views: 8,075,909
Page Views/Day: 3158
Total Posts: 1864
Total Comments: 439,607
From the exciting hiring and eventual sad firing of a long-time Hurricane legend, player-turned-coach Randy Shannon, to the hiring of Al Golden as his replacement, Canespace has hung in there with you through the all the wins and losses, NCAA investigations, recruiting classes and the frustration and agony that goes with the territory.
From the early "blog wars" that nearly tore the #CanesFam apart, to the defections and departures of many talented and interesting bloggers who have come and gone over the years, Canespace has been the one common place of safe refuge for Canes fans from literally all over the world.
We thank all of you who are still here with us and we offer an invitation and warm welcome to those who would join us to talk Hurricane sports all day, every day throughout the many years to come.
Go Canes, Go Canespace!
Winner?

It's hard to judge the new QB based on what he did at Kansas. That team and program is abysmal.
Can't see why anyone is knocking bringing in a former 5 star kid to a QB corp that as of now has not thrown a meaningful pass at the college level.
It's only costing us a one year scholarship so there is absolutely no down side.

Thank U Soup for everything. CaneSpace rules! That is all!

He’s got hops: It’s not hard to imagine Hurricanes signee David Njoku as a future red-zone threat.
Njoku, who will arrive in Coral Gables later this month, won the high jump at last weekend’s New Balance Nationals meet with a jump of 6 feet, 11 inches.
That’s not even his best jump. At the recent New Jersey state meet, he jumped a state record 7-1 while competing for Cedar Grove High.
Njoku, who played wide receiver in high school, will start off as an “X” receiver at UM and could eventually play tight end. He will likely redshirt.
Njoku, listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. He was a three-star recruit who put up 981 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns and 334 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2013.

5 Star rating meaning nothing when your body of work is 8 TD and 10 Int's, also wasn't Heap part of the program that was abysmal.

GO Canes, couldn't agree more! w/ adding the new QB. Its a win win I think for the coaching staff.
1. This guy is not that good or best years are behind - Win, we took a shot that cost us one Schollie for one year that was not going to be used
2. This guy comes in, and is good but Olson takes it up a notch - WIN, Creates great competition. Olson gets pressure from him and Kaaya, and Answers. This guy is a great backup (in case of injury) and Kaaya RS's. This would keep Olson on his toes for the next year or two.
3. This guy comes in, learns the system and beats everyone out. WIN - Kaaya RS's and gets to learn the system for a year. Next year he and Olsen Battle it out.

There is zero downside to bringing in this kid as a QB, for the reasons mentioned above, and as an insurance policy. It's a no lose scenario for an open scholarship.
Anybody that has an issue must be so steeped in negativity they can't think straight.
Posted by: Lurker | June 16, 2014 at 12:06 PM
Overall the addition of another QB is a positive for this season (will preserve RS as Da U in HOU pointed out). The ONLY downside is that it does take away meeting one of our scholarship reductions over the upcoming years. So that part is a negative. But bet positive IMO.
Posted by: BEERicane | June 16, 2014 at 12:11 PM
Who's knockin' Heaps?
Alls I'm askin', is if the kid was so good, then why did He get beat out at 2 different schools? He didn't leave KU because the program was abysmal, He left because He got BEAT OUT!...and ditto with BYU!
But hey, He's a Cane now, so good luck to em' LMAO!
Posted by: CaneRock | June 16, 2014 at 12:17 PM
And with all the NJ coaches we had on our staff in 2012, how was FSU Sean Maguire's only offer?

Guess I cant think straight haha.. So we need an insurance policy when we have 5 scholarship QBs?? So some below average QB is suppose to help the competition at QB?
Give the reps to the young guns who you recruited to be the future of the program.
If it dont hurt the numbers great... but still not a fan of taking reps away from the young kids who need it.
Posted by: UMike | June 16, 2014 at 12:22 PM
What's the peeps on Heaps!! I'm sure he's taking Gray's scholarship......No way Gray is making it into UM unless he goes to prep school.
I agree with Lurker, Go Canes, Da U about signing Heaps....He's not going to hurt us at all. Heck, with all of our talented receivers he might have a Heisman type year.

Soup I have not been active for the past several months however thanks for giving Canes Nation this venue. BTW one year QB's does no good for the program.

thirsty.. he was a 5-Star coming out.. so his HS tapes should look great lol..
OK OK OK... I will agree with you guys that it wont hurt if it doesnt effect the numbers... BUT... I still dont think he is good enough to push Olsen or Kaaya. Kaaya red-shirting will depend on Williams health and Olsens performance.. no Heaps imo

I think by bringing in this qb in, it is obvious that Olsen wasn't ready for this fall, and perhaps never.
Not sure when Kaaya got the playbook, how smart he is and how much he has absorbed, but if near ready I'd be inclined to throw him in.
He's the future.

Here's the thing for me with the new QB signing:
1. Everybody knows we are NOT winning the National Championship this season. The one scholly for one year is NBD.
2. Only a few people know that Gray Crow will be the starting QB this year.
3. If the signing of the new 1 yr QB allows us to play Crow, Olsen, Heaps or even Williams later this year when he returns from injury then I am good with that.
4. This allows us MANY options to red-shirt Kaaya and Rosier for the next season when we all expect MORE from the UM team in 2015 and beyond.
This move makes me much more hopeful today about THIS season and the FUTURE than I was yesterday.
That is all.

UMike, not to pile on the kid...but the 2 guys that beat em' out at BYU & KU, BOTH totaled the number of *s He got coming outta HS LMAO!
Cozart (KU) was a 2*...and Nelson (BYU) was a 3*.

Patrick NIX the words "Gray" and "Crow" from all of this and I agree with the entire statement. Lol
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | June 16, 2014 at 01:12 PM
A lot goes into it. William's health, do they think Olsen can actually play, do they hope not to burn Kaaya's redshirt.
Can't see this as anything other than a need pickup with no drawbacks.
Posted by: Go Canes | June 16, 2014 at 01:15 PM
But Heaps seems like a mature kid, I've read that He's married.
Posted by: CaneRock | June 16, 2014 at 01:19 PM
I don't worry much about red shirts. If Kaaya turns out to be really top notch there is zero chance he'd be here for 5 years.

Go scan through the roster and click on the players U never heard of and be prepared to be surprised (especially at QB and FB). It is amazing at how these players ever ended up at UM as walk ons or on the practice squad or whatever. How does that happen?
