Our Miami Hurricanes will go 10-4 including winning the ACC Coastal and winning the Bowl Game. I will severely be disappointed if these 3 developments don't happen. If we have a better record than this and accomplish more than the 3 things I listed above I will be excited.

Interesting article.

We have the talent to accomplish what is mentioned in Terrance's predictions. But the biggest question is: Are we going to be solid at the QB position or just ok for the 2014 season...

UMike

TSully We could win anywhere from 7-11 games lol... When I look over the schedule there are only many 8 games I feel confident we will win. If the D improves ans the QB is not turnover prone, we should be able to win a good amount of games.

Three quick UM items:

### Hurricanes football, this week, got its 12th oral commitment for 2015 when three-star Venice High offensive lineman Tyler Gauthier orally committed. Of UM's dozen oral commitments, nine are rated three-star recruits by rivals.com. Four are rated four-star prospects.

### UM basketball remains very much in the mix for two transfers, but unfortunately, both would be required to sit out this season.

One of them, 6-8 forward Kamari Murphy, told ESPN he will visit UM after visiting USF. He averaged 6.1 points and 6.3 rebounds for Oklahoma State last season.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports former Alabama 6-8 power forward Nick Jacobs will choose between UM and Georgia Tech. He averaged 8.4 points and 3.5 rebounds and shot 52 percent last season while averaging 20 minutes a game.

### Former UM safety AJ Highsmith, Alonzo's son, announced on Instagram that he will no longer play football. He auditioned for the San Francisco 49ers last month after going undrafted.

Sam Bruce, the nation’s No. 6 wide receiver in the 2016 class, has a Top 3 including a leader.

Who sticks out?

“Florida State one, Miami two and Ohio State three,” Bruce told 247Sports.com on Tuesday afternoon.

Where will the four-star prospect be this summer?

“I’m going to take a break for two weeks to rest my body,” Bruce said. “Then I’ll be back and forth to Miami. I’m going to Ohio State in July or at the end of June.”

The Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas standout has 27 offers.

Oregon is his newest.

“Offensive coordinator Scott Frost came down and watched me,” Bruce said. “Then he offered.”

During the Spring Evaluation Period, everyone was at national powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas.

“Ohio State, FSU, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Nebraska, Alabama and FAU were the ones I saw the most,” Bruce said.

As a sophomore, Bruce recorded 45 catches for 679 yards and nine touchdowns while at Fort Lauderdale (FL) University School.

Scott Patchan 247 update 6/4

Tampa Freedom defensive end Scott Patchan had a desire to make an early decision and he did so by committing to Miami at the spring game. Patchan (6-6, 240) noted there’s a minor downside to being off the market but the pros far outweigh the cons in his mind.

-Says “I probably won’t get all the offers I need for a chance at being a five star recruit,” “On the plus side, I get to be as much of a leader as possible by recruiting for my class. I can represent Miami in the best way and that’s what I’ll do. I’ve loved this school for a long time and I’m satisfied enough with my choice that I’m not changing.”

-Prospects often commit early to take the pressure off but that wasn’t really one of the motivations in Patchan’s case.

-Says “Life really hasn’t changed at all, I’m working out just as much if not harder,” “The reality is that I’ll be in college in 2015 and I need to make more progress before I get there. Everybody else will be bigger, faster, and stronger so I need to be right there with them when I arrive on campus.”

-hoped to put on his recruiting hat and he’s been able to do just that.

-Says “There’s a lot of guys, it’s hard to name only a few,” “I tell them how excited I am about my choice and how they can’t go wrong with Miami. There’s too much to pass up and that’s what I want to help them realize.”

-big fan of some of the recruits that have already joined him in Miami’s 2015 class.

-Says “It’s a big class when you look at the offensive linemen alone,” “Kevin Feder is 6’9” and you can’t coach size. Dwayne Lawson has a great ability to get away from pressure in the pocket and he knows how to get the ball to his receivers. Again, that’s something that comes very naturally. Dexter Williams and Jordan Cronkrite are both downhill guys coming out of the backfield. They can get north and south but they have good enough agility to operate inside or in the open field.”

-didn’t hesitate to state how he feels about prospects who decommit, not just from Miami, but really anywhere.

-Says “If you go ahead and commit somewhere, you’re saying all in,” “There are certain situations I understand like if the head coach leaves for another position. But if you decommit and nothing big changed, there’s no reason to do that. You wasted everybody’s time because you got them excited and then let them down. Then once you decommitted the first time, what stops you from doing it again? I don’t agree with that at all. My goal is to win a bunch of games and expect all my teammates to be fully on board as well. If they’re not, they made a bad decision and they don’t deserve a scholarship.”

-Before going public, Patchan said he hoped to visit every school that had offered him. Where does he stand on the front currently?

-Says “That’s mostly out the window, there may be a few schools I take officials to,” “I’m very happy with my commitment to Miami. They’re still recruiting me just as hard and that’s one of the greatest things. They send all the important pictures, videos, the stuff that makes me feel wanted. They’re not thinking ‘Well he’s on board so we don’t need to waste our time’. I guess that’s one reason I picked them in the first place.”

Carlton Davis Rivals update 6/4

Miami Norland High School DB Carlton Davis is a high priority in this Cane recruiting class - he has UM among his 25 offers. And Davis says he's talking with Cane coaches regularly.

-Says "They're talking about getting me down there, going to see the campus, things like that," Davis said.

-he'll visit UM on Saturday for the camp - he'll watch on from the side.

-Says "I've already visited Miami before," adding that he hasn't seen any other colleges yet.

-has yet to narrow things down but will do that at the end of the summer once he takes visits to Florida, Florida State, Auburn and Alabama.

-Says "I might make a soft commit before the summer ends,"

-Something UM has going for it with him: "My mom wants me to stay close to home,"

-Asked if that's going to play a big factor in his decision, "Sort of."

-adds of Miami that "It's the hometown school and an up-and-coming program. I know a couple of players there - Duke (Johnson), Artie (Burns), Ryan Mayes - they told me it's a good program."

-finished last season with one interception and 10 pass breakups.

And I think Bruce ends up a Cane...we've come a long way from "Miami don't be offerin' us SF kids", to #2 on His list.

Sam Bruce is gonna be a recruit U either love or hate. Will play the recruiting game in the media until he commits and maybe all the way until NSD 2016. Kid loves the attention.

That said, would love to have him lol

Ohio_Cane

Oh, and Patchan is the type of recruit every fan loves. Doesn't BS, makes his decision, and sticks to it. Love that.

UMike

Ohio.. I definitely want him in Miami. Kid was a top WR last season as a sophomore lol.. He gave the BTW secondary fits and was easily a top 2-3 player on he field when they played.

Bill Snyder has been coaching for more than 50 years, and he’s seen the game change in many ways.

When it comes to the styles of play, he says history repeats itself, with the same changes popping up over time.

“You see changes, but if you’ve been in the game long enough, as I have for over 50 years, you recognize you’ve seen those changes before,” he told Paul Finebaum. “In other words, it’s kind of what goes around, comes around. There’s only so many ways you can play the game. By in large, most of it, it’s all been done before. It gets new names and new attention.

“People talk about Wildcat offense. There’s a reason why we did that 20-something years ago. Where did it all come from? For me, when I was playing, the programs I was in in college and high school were single-wing programs. You look at what is being done in the ‘Wildcat’ offense, and it’s single-wing football. It’s got a different moniker to it. But it’s still the same type of football. Virtually anything that takes place in college football or high school football or NFL football, the changes are, by in large, things that have happened in the past or somebody puts a new spin on it and provides some different terminology and you try it again."

I agree with your post 86.

Go Canes

Just wanted to add my two cents about the whole Bama-LSU games topic.

I really want to play either or both of those games.

I'm a big believer that in every aspect of life-professionally, personally, economically-whatever...you are always trending one direction or another.

In life nothing of importance is every just stagnant.

This program is no different.

We need to know where we are trending, legitamitely, not on a game to game basis, but as a team and program.

Those games will tell us. Win or hang with them to the bitter end and we are where we want to be.

Lose with a thud and it's time to re-evaluate everything. Not just the coach and his staff, but the entire approach we are taking to the new realities of college football.

Basically are we in or out.

UMike

Games Im very confident we win...

Florida A&M
Arkansas St.
Duke
Georgia Tech
Virginia
Pittsburgh

Games Im fairly confident we can win..

Louisville
Cincinnati
North Carolina

Games I either have zero confident in or an just unsure..

Florida State
Nebraska
Virginia Tech

86Cane

UMike...I would be more worried about Louisville or maybe even UNC than VT. We lost to VT last year on turnovers alone. That will not happen again.

Go Canes

About half our meaningful opponents will be breaking in new QBs this season. We will be facing a ton of inexperienced throwers in 2014.

Virginia, UNC, Louisville, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Pitt are what I can think of off the top of my head.

UMike

Go Canes.. so what does that say about us? lol

SOUP.. I and faily confident about Louisville because it is an opener and they lost Bridegwater. We SHOULD want revenge and play that way. UNC and VT always give us fits. UNC lost their great TE which is a plus, but again they always give us fits.

That is a good point, and normally I think most would agree (and probably still do) but...

1) We will also be breaking in a QB and most likely a freshman.

2) Our D is known for giving up career days to average QB's.. so how many of those inexperienced throwers will have a Heisman game against us?

To me it means we are catching a break while rebuilding this program.

I see all of those teams taking a huge step back offensively, more than us in my opinion, because none of them have the stable of running backs and receivers we have.

If we are better defensively, which we should be, I see us grinding out a lot of our wins.

Florida wildlife officials are getting ready for a count survey of the state’s black bear population.

In 2002, Florida wildlife officials estimated the state’s black bear population at around 3,000.

In the past year, there has been a steady rise in reports and sightings of black bears in Florida’s residential zones, leading state wildlife officials to think the black bear population has significantly grown in the last 12 years.

“The frequency of phone calls, the frequency of sightings, there’s just a lot more out there,” Florida Fish and Wildlife spokesman Greg Workman told WESH.com. “We’re hoping to prove our hypothesis that the bear population has greatly increased since 2002,” Greg Workman, Florida Fish

Biologists with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will set up 200 counting stations in wooded areas throughout the state to tally the black bears.

Surrounded by barbed wire, the counting stations will use bait such as donuts to lure in black bears.

This I agree with. I think it will come down to our D more than our QB. We do have weapons for whichever QB we go with. I hope Coley earns his money this season. But our D cannot give up 40 points to nobodies or chunk play after chunk play.

AGREE 100%!

Ohio_Cane

Melo WANTS the ball all the time. Lebron GETS the ball all the time. Would never work IMO

Go Canes

Melo may be the most overrated player of my lifetime.

And I agree Duke is the key to our season offensively, but I won't sleep on Yearby that can be just as effective when getting his reps.

That's a gigantic plus for us.

86Cane

IMHO what the Heat needs is a rebounder/shot blocker at center. Someone who is defensive minded not a scorer and who could nail down 10-12 rebounds and 3-5 blocks per game. If Miami had this they would simply be unbeatable.

Then maybe a new, young, athletic 3 point shooter to replace the aging Ray Allen

86 is spot on. 8-4 is the target, just depends on how the D improves. With a new QB too many mistakes and unknowns. Schedule doesn't help much either.

8-4 - end tier bowl win sets the stage to move ahead.

VA Cane

TSully,
I agree we play a good schedule to a point, but I am for getting rid of the Savannah States, Bethune Cookmans and FL A&Ms. We can get better opponents and you get better by playing good teams.I would say yes to Bama and LSU. Both of them.

"If you want to run with the big dogs, you got to learn to piss in the tall weeds. If you do not want to run with the big dogs, keep your sorry ass on the porch".

You got to learn to ride a punch. Thats why I scrimmage HS freshman ball teams and beat them. Their coaches cannot believe we can do it. I have good size and great speed, but at times they are bigger.
Why do we win? We are in shape year round, we are fundamentally sounder than most varsity HS teams, and we are smarter.

So maybe Bama and LSU whip us like dogs, maybe we play them close, or maybe we sneak in pull the upset and win one of them. Run with those big dogs, just give it all you got....you will be surprised how many kids that would attract.

Winning solves all problems, winning on a very regular basis changes the world. We are winning at a 97% clip at 79-3 over 7 years. I get kids and their parents ask me if they can get a waiver from their school (32 in our league) can they come play for me? Some of these kids are incredibly good!!!!
I do not accept waivers, or people who say they stay after school at someones house even though they live far away because for years people cheated that way. We win because we are good and getting better each day, not because I need to recruit kids. My guys are my guys and I will never push one away by getting a great player to get a waiver. I could get great recruits; I do not need to do it!!

AlPa on the other hand needs recruits. He has done a good job, and I think is getting better at it in FL. Beat one of the big dogs, and/or beat FSU, and they will come. It is time to do it. Do not back down.

Melo can go to the moon as far as I am concerned. Any guy who cannot play D, or try to do so, cannot rebound and will not pass I do not want. I loved the old Knicks with Clyde, Willis Reed, Bradley, Earl the Pearl, etc. Those guys were great team players. They did win 2 titles. After that, just could not stand them. Ewing was a great guy. Starks, Alan Houston, Isaiahs time there, Melo....ugh. I stopped pulling for them years ago, now I love to see them lose cause Melo is a first class jerk.

VA Cane

I think we can have a good year. Schedule is not easy, could be tougher which I would like.

The O line has got to be great. I think we have had good lines, but we need to be stronger, quicker, faster, in better shape and really get the footwork down. Reach blocks, drive blocks, pulls and pass block must be highly aggressive.

Along with that, we must remember we have inexperience at QB. If we can run and protect Kaaya....whom I think and want to be the guy as I think he can win....we will be ok.

If we can do that, and it is a lot, we CAN run the ball with Duke Yerby and Co. Give them holes and we can run. QB has time we have guys to catch it.

D has got to has got to improve. Tackle, penetrate, pass rush, cover one on one man. Got to do better. Not #1 in every category, improve get stable.

Special teams are kind of a mystery; punting kicking game. Got to be there.

86Cane

Along with that, we must remember we have inexperience at QB. If we can run and protect Kaaya....whom I think and want to be the guy as I think he can win....we will be ok.
