We all know that there is only one U.
And make no mistake about it, for Miami Hurricane fans, it is all about "The U".
During our recent Canespace "Four Play" trip in February to South Florida and the beautiful campus of the University of Miami a few of us had a chance to see the newly constructed Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence up close and personal for the first time.
Even though Miami proved long ago that winning championships is not all about facilities, in today's highly competitive "recruiting wars" world, it doesn't hurt.
We, like many others who have visited and seen the facility, were extremely impressed with the new, modern and state-of-the-art building located directly behind the Hecht Athletic Center.
As you can see from the above video, there is only one U. It is a small, private school that is a very special place that has produced some of the best student-athletes ever and many National Champions.
And whether it is the old U or the new U, or whether you have been a UM fan forever or for just a few years, we still think that you would strongly agree:
"It is all about The U!"
Love It and Go Canes!

24/7/CIS:
Four-star safety Johnson remains wide open
Ryan Bartow
BRADENTON, Fla. - Jaquan Johnson has a plan in regards to his recruitment.
Jaquan Johnson hopes to make his decision this winter.
“Official visits before decision,” Johnson told 247Sports.com Friday evening at the IMG 7-on-7 National Championships. “Maybe at the U.S. Army (All-American) Game but I’m actually an early enrollee so it might have to be before then. My mind will probably be made by then.”
The Crystal Ball reads 89-percent for Miami.
“People are going to think what they like because of the things I wear or say sometimes,” Johnson said. “Its just because I’m in Miami. That’s all I can wear. That’s all I have.”
Who sticks out right now for the four-star defensive back?
“There’s no leader,” Johnson said. “I’m taking my time. I'm viewing all of my options. I’m not going to rush it. I’m taking my time and making a decision.”
Who is after the Miami (FL) Killian standout the most consistent?
“I’d say everybody. South Carolina, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Alabama and LSU,” Johnson said. “Everybody being consistent. Picking my brain, seeing what I’m thinking about. Its really up in the air. I’d say everyone. Everybody is telling me the same thing. Early opportunity if I work hard. Its up to me to play. I want to give everybody a fair shake.”
The No. 26 prospect in Florida has only visited Miami this summer.
“I have Florida State coming. I believe on the 16 and 17th of July,” Johnson said. “Florida. Eventually going to Alabama, South Carolina and LSU. Maybe (for official visits) or I might do it in the summer. My parents wants to come with me, too.”
The No. 166 overall prospect in the nation adds his thoughts on some of the main programs pursuing him.
LSU - “DB nation. Lot of hype around them. Play fast ball.”
Florida - “(Defensive backs coach Travaris Robison) like another big brother. Right in the backyard. Just a ways from home. He’s looking forward to coaching me. That would be nice.”
Alabama - “(Offensive line coach Mario Cristobal) tells me how it is. I would get a chance if I work.”
Miami - “I’m the number one on their board. They want me bad.”
The U.S. Army All-American still has plans to play his college ball with close friend Tim Irvin, a four-star athlete at Miami (FL) Westminster Christian School.
“Me and Tim (Irvin) talk about it all of the time,” Johnson said. “We are supposed to go to Florida State (to visit) soon. God willing we will be together. If not we will meet each other in the future. I would be at strong safety (and) he would be at free.”

"Everything is for her. Every single thing," Johnson says matter-of-factly. "If I didn't have the childhood I did and it wasn't as tough as it was and my mom didn't struggle the way she did and if I didn't want better for her, I wouldn't play football. … But the reason I play is for her. … It's not for the game. It's not for the attention. It's solely for her, just to get her in a better situation where she doesn't have to work, where she can do what she wants."

UMike is not gonna like him for some reason. He must be either too short, too light or too slow. Maybe it is his "hips" or that he lacks "lateral burst" or "explosiveness"? Must be, right?

MLB recruits are needed, give me more! Happy summer vacation, Canes fans. Taking time to get mentally ready for another season. Hate the talk of "better team, worse record," we can't be worse than the team that showed up for the Bowl game, but the schedule isn't that challenging. Yes, we're better, no, we're not automatically a 7-5 team.

My pleasure Soup.
If you break it down though, it's not really THAT generous.
7 years of you building & maintaining this great blog…not to mention all of the tailgating, trips, tickets, hotels, and t-shirts you put together… comes out to about 4¢ a day. (You work CHEAP my friend... those aren't even third world wages.)
Plus, my donation is somewhat selfish on my part, because where else would I go for my "U fix" if this AWESOME blog were to ever close down?

#SCATHING!
One NFC front office executive said Finnegan has a good chance to rejuvenate his career here partly because he wasn't properly used by former Rams defensive coordinator Tim Walton, the ex-UM coordinator who was fired by the Rams after last season.
When I asked Finnegan about that last week, he said Walton’s defensive system was “atrocious. From the game plan to technique to fundamentals, they weren’t in line with a defensive coordinator who knew what he was doing. He was a great defensive backs coach, but when you're in over your head, it's kind of tough... Here coaches know to play guys to their strengths. I wish I had been here a long time ago. [Coordinator Kevin] Coyle is so good at dissecting offenses.”
After two disappointing seasons, does Finnegan, at 30, still have

Awful, AWFUL soccer by Michael Bradley in crunch time. All U gotta do is put the ball into their corner and the game is over. Instead, he tries to be fancy, turns the ball over, and they score. Terrible.
That's what he does tho... turnovers at horrible times. Not to mention missing a basically wide open net from the 6...

Not UpNorth, but it's "injury time". Clock never stops so they add a certain amount of time at the end for any injury or unnecessary stoppage in play. Usually not more than 5 mins.

Ohio.. ok.. I dont watch soccer but have watched the the last 2 USA games and was wondering about that... thanks
Posted by: UMike | June 23, 2014 at 10:13 AM
That was a frustrating ending. Between Bradley turning the ball over twice in the US half in ET, to not holding the ball in the corner once we had possession in their half in ET.

That Ronaldo guy had a perfect pass though... right? I mean, was that a typical soccer play or an outstanding play?
Posted by: UMike | June 23, 2014 at 10:24 AM
Ohio...I thought the exact same thing about the soccer game yesterday. I think Bradley may have been being selfish when he held the ball so long at center of the field instead of just lofting it down into the Portugal zone to kill time and run out the clock.
The other thing is that the US basically relaxed in the last 2 minutes because they were fatigued and they assumed the game was over. It ain't ova until it is ova.
The third thing is coaching. How do you not have two guys marking the only player who can beat you in the final minute to deny him the ball or at least hinder him enough to deny the wide open lane to kick the perfect cross?
