Don't get me wrong… I'm not saying Steele is spouting "gospel" here… but I do think there is some merit for his method of analysis. He's not just "blindly guessing," and his results prove that out.

Yes, of course he is WAY OFF on some teams, (and he will sometimes have semi-lame explanations as to why this team or that team didn't perform.)

It's like handicapping horses… nobody's perfect, there are too many factors affecting the outcome, but some people, through intensive study and analysis, are better at it than others. (And yes, some people pick horses by their name, or their post position and they do just fine.) Just look at how many "experts" picked California Chrome to win the Triple Crown… it's far from an exact science.

Bottom line is... during this dead period, it's at least something to keep the conversation going until Labor Day FINALLY gets here.

Let's Go Canes!

Remember when the U pumped out QBs, RBs, WRs, DL, LBs, safeties? We don't need to bring back just quarterback U (big help though), we need to bring back THE U!

SinisterCane

Jack Bauer threw that bi!@h out the muthaf@@kin window.

UpNorthCane27

Idk if anyone has posted this but word is trayone gray got a qualifying test score....

Ohio_Cane

If jack Allison sticks, Kaaya better strap his cleats up. This kid is elite. Will be #1 or #2 QB in the country for 2016

j.w.

Allison is really that good, Ohio? I'm impressed and glad to hear we got another good one.

Ohio_Cane

Jw, yes he is. Kid has a CANNON! Obviously, it's real early with him being a 2016 kid, and will take some work to keep him. This is more fruit from the Coley tree

4 wins is a long ways from 11 wins. But he is supposed to be the gospel in predicted season records. LOL pure comedy.

Muschump better win 11 games this year or he is TOAST!

86Cane

Roach, you can have Baylor, Clemson, Louisville, Kansas St and Ole Miss for your entire net worth. No more than 2 will be in top 15 and none in top 5.

Posted by: Mountain Cane | June 23, 2014 at 07:59 PM

I don't know, Baylor, Clemson and The Ville been looking pretty good lately. Did you read that stat I posted about Baylor and having the MOST 1 minute TD drives a few weeks ago? Clemson is recruiting like crazy and The Ville done kicked our butts in the bowl game.

Yes Sir. And he is toast then cause its no way the Crocs are winning 11 games.

Another good news for the Canes...

Miami Gardens (FL) Carol City High School standout athlete and UM signee Trayone Gray was never a sure thing to qualify academically to report for this season. But he got some good news today. Read on.

Gray gets qualifying test score - CaneSport.com

Montreal_Cane

CS reporting he scored a 22.

I will believe it when he will be on Campus.

If true, this is great...

Needed a 19 on the ACT and got a 22.

"I don't even know when I'll report, I'm just waiting on coach Scott to tell me when," Gray said."

Dude on a Pale Horse

Speaking of The U, Gray is a beast athlete. We need him at The U.

roachcane77,

I agree about it being something to talk about but my beef with Steele is that he casts a HUGE net and then claims to be so accurate. Its like me telling you right now that a QB or a RB will win the Heisman Trophy next year and then telling you I told you so. He has like 9 different algorithms for predictions, its like trying to come up with a CF version of moneyball, lol.

UMike

I know its 2 years away but great pick up for us. Coley will get a lot o credit, but according to Ariz Kehoe was his main recruiter.

Also.. love the "WelcomeToTheUSelfie", the staff is creative with that stuff and Im sure the kids love it.

UMike

Tito.. right before the commit...

2016 Palmetto (Fla.) quarterback Jack Allison knows it takes everything he has to become an elite prospect and help his team accomplish their goals. There have been no days off for him as he is constantly putting in work during the summer.

“I work out everyday; I work out with my team in the morning and I’ll also work out with my trainer Elton- John Strawderman every day for speed and strength training with him.”

The 6’5 190 pound gun slinger had his priorities in order as his teams offensive leader. His goals for the upcoming season are rather simple: Win.

“The goal this season is to be a better leader and win football games.”

Allison is entering his junior year, but already has a number of schools interested in his services.

“Alabama, Tennessee, Miami, Mizzou, USF, UCF and I talk to Miami a lot, and the Tennessee coaches a lot as well.”

When asked for what school is putting in the biggest effort to land him, The Palmetto product admitted the ‘Canes are doing a tremendous job of recruiting him.

“I have to say Miami.”

The Hurricanes have really caught Allison’s eye and cites their rich tradition as one of the most appealing aspect of the program.

“The tradition of ‘The U’, the swagger of it, I love it there as well. I love coach (James) Coley, the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator and Al Golden the head coach, he’s amazing. I’d love to play for him and just the atmosphere there is amazing; it’s not uptight and it’s fun, but they handle business.”

Allison got a chance to work with offensive coordinator James Coley on sunday at the Al Golden football Camp and also got to see what the campus is like.

“Coach Coley talked a lot about balance and stuff like that and thats something I never really thought about and I got to see the campus and it’s a really nice campus.”

The Volunteers are another program that has the attention of Allison and their offense is rather intriguing to his style.

“It’s a program within the SEC, which is awesome and the Pro-style offense they have is really nice. I’ve heard they have a really nice campus and the academics are good too. I’d love to get down there.”

On the other side of the conference the Alabama Crimson Tide have made quite the impression on the Florida quarterback and cites their dominance of college football the last few years as a main reason of interest.

“I talk to Lane Kiffin from there a little bit. It’s Alabama they’re one of the best programs over the last few years.”

When it comes to evaluating between every school, Allison has to find what he wants in a school to make a commitment.

“A good environment, somewhere where the quarterbacks coach and head coach understand me and just the best fit for me and the style of offense. I also want to see success over the years from the program.”

*Allison doesn’t have a strict preference, but he said he would prefer a Pro/Spread offense.

More Tito...

2016 Southridge (Fla.) receiver Freddie Pinder is an underclassmen on his spartans team, however he is treated and acts like a senior leader with his tremendous play and leadership.

“I’ve been working out daily since the summer started and we’ve been doing 7 on 7’s a lot. I just have to make big plays and be a leader for the team because if no one steps up then I might as well step up.”

Pinder has some goals for himself next season and one includes establishing himself as the best receiver in South Florida.

“My goals for next season are to be the #1 receiver in my class and my goal team wise is to play as a family and play for one another and not individuals, just play for each other and help each other out. “

Pinder has garnered offers from some of the top programs in the country already including schools like Miami, Cincinnati, Louisville and Clemson.

“University of Miami, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Louisville, South Carolina and Clemson.”

While it’s early in the process for the 6’5 190 pound receiver, the Hurricanes seem to have the early lead for his services.

“Miami is in the lead because they make me feel at home, they show me the most love ever out of all the other schools. I also like that a former friend of mine, Jamal Carter, he talks about it saying he loves it. I know if he loves it then I’m going to love it.”

The current Hurricane safety, Jamal Carter, has put in quite the word with Pinder and told him all the positives of Miami.

“He tells me everything, he says the foods good and he likes everything about it and he loves it.”

The towering receiver speaks with linebackers coach Michael Barrow and says he feels almost at home with him around.

“He’s a really cool guy, he’s funny and he shows me top respect and he makes me feel like family and there’s a connection.”

The school that trails the Hurricanes is Clemson, mostly because he idolizes Sammy Watkins.

“Sammy Watkins, he broke records as a true freshman and it’s amazing.”

Pinder plans on hitting up a number of schools this summer including a trip to Coral Gables.

“Next month, me and a couple of guys from my team are going to the University of Miami, Auburn, Alabama and USF.”

When it comes to making a choice, feeling comfortable will ultimately decide where Pinder lands.

“I just want a school to make me feel comfortable and like help me out academically. Not only focus on football, but also focus on academic and not just use me.”

The Dude… I getcha… very good point.

Is it just me, or does Allison still sound pretty wide open on his "commitment?"

UMike

roach... I would think any 2016 commit, and some 2015 commits.. are all still wide open. At least until NSD lol

UMike

Also roach.. that interview above was done BEFORE he committed to Miami... not sure if that is what you were talking about

Safid Deen

So UM just offered this stud, 2017 Coconut Creek WR Emmanuel Greene, who made this crazy play on Sat.

UMike

Coconut Creek and Gulliver we need to get a strong hold of.. A LOT of talent coming our of those programs the next few years

Go Canes

Steele's good but his yardage formula is absurd.

We were over by what, 16 yards a game? Defense may have struggled but we probably added 20+ Yds per game to our average in yards given up during garbage time in the Pitt, Virginia, G Tech and Gator games alone. Not even counting third and even fourth string yds given up on some of our routs.

Go Canes

Great pickup by our staff too btw!!

UMike

Kid is already 6'5 190lbs and is just going into his junior year lol

DAMN! good post BEER.

When we start seeing future 1st rounders running down field bustin' somebody's @$$ on kick-offs, that's when you know WE'RE BACK!

UMike

I dont even wanna ever hear "we're back" or "The U is back" etc until we AT LEAST win the dam coastal!! lol.. and I mean win it outright, not because another school is on probation or something lol

UMike

I think Miami is getting better at it, but there are still to many ELITE local players we are missing out on. I know we cant get them all, but we need a higher percentage of the elite guys from our own backyard.

UMike

If we picked up 1-3 more of the ELITE players from our area over the last 5 recruiting cycles this would be a different program right now. Its the difference between us and FSU right now. Hopefully we can win this season and next because as usual, South Florida is really loaded and winning will help keep kids home more than anything else imo

Predictable and means nothing.

Ohio.. I agree.. just mentioning it.. hopefully all 3 opt out.. which is probably the plan

UMike

Will be interesting to see if we can hold onto these 2016 kids. Winning will go a long way in helping with that.

Gotta hold these guys for a long time...
