The third thing is coaching. How do you not have two guys marking the only player who can beat you in the final minute to deny him the ball or at least hinder him enough to deny the wide open lane to kick the perfect cross?

Posted by: 86Cane | June 23, 2014 at 10:25 AM
----------------------------------------

They have plenty of guys who can beat U. Nani specifically. Doubling one leaves another alone. There were 2 guys near the header that tied it. Just a perfect ball.

Klinnsman's strategy worked for 94 mins on Ronaldo. He basically did nothing.

Again, turnover by Bradley changed to dumping the ball deep and we're talking about how Klinnsman is a genius and shut Ronaldo down.

UMike

That is what I thought.. I seen plenty o other guys try to make passes but that one was dead on!! Was a great play... but as SOUP mentioned shouldn't of been allowed to happen lol... but correct me if I am wrong, but the US is playing better than expected?

Better than expected, yes. Good enough to win the Cup? No.

UMike

Ohio.. but were never suppose to win the cup right? lol

UMike

I cant believe I watched 90 mins of a soccer game.. and none of my softball or basketball girls were in it lol

Me either, but I guess it was USA Pride!

I was actually depressed when Portugal tied it in the last minute and for a while after the game.

Canes baseball just got a commit.

AfriCane

Ok cane clan, I've been busy following the World Cup, with my two favorite teams in it; USA & Nigeria.
Coaching was awesome in the game. The German called the perfect game; right substitution, good spacing. Portugal was nuteralized, especially Reynaldo. For that one pass he made, he screwed up so many others. And Monday morning QBing is awesome. We can go ahead & criticize on a play that happened 30 seconds to the end of the match. And yeah, most team seat on the ball with 2 min left to the end.

The Dude

I think the strategies in soccer are questionable sometimes. You have the ball in their territory so you pass all the way back to your goalie and he kicks a jump ball to center field? Its like they dont value ball possession. Then when you have Portugal reeling you slow down the game instead of stepping on their throats.

It's the way it should be everywhere. I can't believe I'm about to type this: good for USC.

USC has done something heroic by offering 4-year schollies? Where was all the praise when others did it 2-3 years ago?

AfriCane

F that! U give 4 year rides off the bat, u r promoting laziness & lack of competition. Do it the jimmy Johnson way. Earn your keep; earn next year scholarship based on what u do this year.

YUP, and it usually prevents U from winning.

UpNorthCane27

Ohio couldn't agree with you more Bradley killed us with the turnover and Geoff Cameron fell asleep in his marking of varela. 5 minutes of added time was ridiculous there was only one stoppage of play due to injury. But US has only themselves to blame and they gave Ronaldo to much cushion on the cross they should've never been in that spot the ball should've been played down to the corners or out of bounds.

Ball possession is valued in soccer that's why when you see that they are in the attacking third and then decide to go back to the defense it's because the opponent is "parking the bus" and you have to pull them out and create space by playing back and wide.

Many of the SLS renovations will be done for the 2015 season; will be completed by 2016. http://gocan.es/slsmodernization

AfriCane

Bradley has been a disappointment in this world cups. He plays timid; slow, can't escape tacklers, can't catch up to tackle anyone. Doubt if he ever plays for the USA again. This is the coming out party for USA soccer. They have arrive and the standard for future players is raised. The future of USA soccer lies with children of European, African, and Latin America immigrants, plus more international players joining the MLS. Root for david beckham's team boys. I follow the team & I always knew the world was in for a rude awakening. No matter what sport, that American tough minded spirit is always the same. Go USA!

Ohio_Cane

^^^^ Garfinkel said the modernization of the stadium would be done in two stages and construction could begin within a few weeks. The goal is to have all of the work done before the start of the 2016 season.

UpNorthCane27

Nigeriancane, as bad as Bradley has played in these two world cup games he is still by far the heart and sould of that midfield man. I have faith in Bradley but eh does have to step it up big time.

it sucks to see Dempsey having to play that high holding forward when his game is best suited as that high attacking midfielder right behind the forward. Either way the future is bright for the US.

Yep. Tell U what, too... Yedlin is gonna be a star for us, IMO. Kid came in and played well, hustled, and played SMART. He actually held the ball in the corner after setting up the go-ahead goal.

UpNorthCane27

Hell yea Ohio I was gonna say yedlin also kid has that speed and courage to play gotta love it. World cup always shows you future stars.

Montreal-Cane

Last Wednesday, Miami offered elite WR prospect Equanimeous St. Brown, from Anaheim, California. EQ is rated 95 and ranked #10 in the country. You have to wonder why the Canes continue to go after such elite talent outside of Florida. St. Brown will be a tough pull, but it’s been done before by UM.

One thing for certain, coach Golden is not playing games with the “divas” from South Florida…And i love it!

THE WORD ACCORDING TO STEELE:

So here are the final 15 teams that met all of the criteria and in my opinion fit a championship mold for the upcoming season based on the last 22 years. While there may be a couple of teams left out (UCLA, Oregon, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina), 14 of these teams made my preseason Top 32 (12 in Top 23) including my top 4 who I forecast to make the first college football playoff in Florida St, Alabama, Ohio St and Oklahoma!

The Final 15 Teams Who Fit the
National Championship Mold in 2014
Alabama
Baylor
Clemson
Florida St
Iowa
Kansas St
Louisville
LSU
Michigan St
Ohio St
Oklahoma
Ole Miss
Stanford
USC
Wisconsin

Phil Steele needs to put the moon shine down. This cat got Ole Miss,Iowa, Kansas State, and Louisville in the mix. Sweet baby Jesus Take the wheel cause this fool has lost his cotton picking mind.

86Cane

TSully...he used an interesting 22 year old formula based on all the teams that have won the title over those years for the preditction. It is PURELY by stats not his personal beliefs.

Terrance Sullivan

Okay Soup that sounds better.

Mountain Cane

Steele proved you can combine statistics in a way to produce meaningless results. Garbage in/garbage out.

roachcane77

Not so fast my friend… Steele's "formula" makes sense, and has proven fairly successful as a predictor. It also makes sense why Miami got eliminated.

"Every National Championship contender for this year would have had to allow 409 ypg or less and this eliminated nine teams in Miami, Fl (426 ypg), Auburn (421 ypg), Duke (418 ypg), Missouri (417 ypg), Houston (416 ypg), Northern Illinois (415 ypg), Ball St (414 ypg), Arkansas St (413 ypg) and Boise St (413 ypg)."

Yes… thanks to our STELLAR D'No defense, (or lack there of), we are NOT figured into the National picture this year.

Let's hope our D sees this and rises to the occasion!

Terrance Sullivan

LOL Phil Steele also said Florida would win 11 games, and that we would only win 7 games so spare me on the great Phil Steele. This clown is guessing like everyone else. Yawn!

Mountain Cane

Roach, you can have Baylor, Clemson, Louisville, Kansas St and Ole Miss for your entire net worth. No more than 2 will be in top 15 and none in top 5.

Terrance Sullivan

4 wins is a long ways from 11 wins. But he is supposed to be the gospel in predicted season records. LOL pure comedy.

BEERicane

No one provides more comedic prognostication than "Dr" William Gray. That clown is in landlocked mountainous Colorado yet he predicts the activity of the hurricane season. What is that? Dude has probably never seen a hurricane (trained in hurricane-less Chicago). And then gets a do-over midway through the season and messes that up 100% of the time. Now that guy is a joke.

Mountain Cane

Really, beer, you need to be in the tropics or at least the sub-tropics to predict hurricanes? You think they just look out the window?

He may suck, but has nothing to do with where he lives.

BEERicane

Mountain, yes, it sure does help. It helps to actually be on the seas collecting the primary meteorological data live in the regions where these weather systems develop. It's akin to me knowing how to invest, but have no clue how Wall Street or the transactions actually work. Certainly those on the ground floor have a distinct knowledge advantage than I.

Per Ariz, Jack Allison commits to UM. I know it's 2 years away, but this is a BIG! pick up.

Yeah. I'm screaming at my TV after Dempsey's goal! Screaming! Push the ball! Push the ball! Go for the throat! Go for the throat! Instead they slow it down and try to milk the clock. I'm asking my soccer buddy wtf are they doing? They haven't won yet, why are they acting like they did? Keep the ball by putting shots on Portugal's goal! Keep up the pressure because they're about to fold! Instead... we get a tie that feels like a loss. I'm so mad about that strategy. Then I hear all of these soccer "experts" saying the U.S. did the right thing but Ronaldo just made a great play on bad defense and how the U.S. needs to play for a tie against Germany. I'm thinking, okay, this is another reason why I can't understand the appeal of this game. That was the equivalent of thinking you had the game won while sitting on a field goal. Why couldn't the game be extended with a tie? To see if someone could come out on top? Like an overtime period? Soccer will never replace football in the U.S. that is for sure, thank all that's holy for that. Way too many times, teams give up the ball for no reason. I see all this space to run with the ball and guys want to pass it. The goalie kick deep is dumb, its a 50/50 ball at best. I'm ready to start coaching again and change this sport, lol!

The Dude

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | June 23, 2014 at 07:57 PM

Its statistical vomit.

The Dude

He also calls himself the most accurate blah, blah, blah, blah! I know he says he was the ONLY magazine to have Carson Palmer on his Heisman Watch. Ugh, dude, you're the only magazine with like 50 guys on their list.

The Dude

On that list, Ohio State makes the most sense. They'll play a weak Big 10 schedule and will be massively over-hyped by week 7. They return their QB and a bunch of players.

Joe

Jack Allison is a game changing commit. The guy is simply a monster. Incredible pickup.

QB U is coming back slowly but surely.
