I LOVE U MAN!

Dude on a Pale Horse

Why are they the cHeat?

WWIN

I'm a Canes homer and a cHeat Hater!!

I HATE everything about the cHeat! Lol

TonyCane

Where is Beasely? Is he out for the series?

Dude on a Pale Horse

I know the stat. I'm saying these two teams could likely represent the 17%, that's how good they can be. I do think this series comes down to how bad the Heat want it, how hard they play D.

Terrance Sullivan

The Dude the winner of Game 3 has won the series 83% of time by far the highest indicator when a series is 1-1.

Terrance Sullivan

Charlotte or Bust. F all the rest of that noise. if we go 10-2 and don't win the Coastal yall can be happy but to me its another flop failure of a season. SMDH.I guess I am the only one tired of our team coming up short and cant get to Charlotte. Duke, GT, and VT have been but we haven't SMGDH.

Ohio_Cane

@joshdarrow: Miramar DB Tyrek Cole listed his Miami, FSU and Alabama as his top 3. Will OV Bama, UF, South Carolina, LSU & FSU. Can visit UM anytime

^^^ WANT!!

Dude on a Pale Horse

TS,

Game 3 is usually a big game, but I think either team could rebound from a game 3 loss and win game 4. If Heat win they go up 2-1, win game 4 and its over. If Heat lose game 3, game 4 becomes a must win. Game 4 is now a must win for one of the 2 teams. Good series.

Wade left Green a few times in the 4th qtr gambling on D. That's as dumb as leaving Ray Allen. Heat need to gaurd the corner 3's better since almost everyone on the Spurs roster can hit that shot. Heat also lacked good offense without LeBron. Wade is having touble in the paint scoring. Someone needs to set a pick for him.

TonyCane

Terrance, that's a good point. Had not thought of it.

Realistically, the scenario above is optimistic and presumes an upset of Louisville and Nebraska. I think that the Cardinals have to be favored due to the inexperience of quarterback and that it's away. Nebraska too will be difficult, as the majority of their best players will be 3rd year or above players. A 10-2 regular season would be great for the team at this point, but I think 8-4 is the more likely result. A 10+ win season is very likely in 2015 provided that we can avoid a rush of early departures for the NFL.

I hope that I am pleasantly surprised.

SinisterCane

10-2 but if we lose to Duke just scratch my whole list

1. Miami at Louisville Loss
2. FAMU at Miami Win
3. Arkansas State at Miami Win
4. Miami at Nebraska Win
5. Duke at Miami Win
6. Miami at Georgia Tech Win
7. Cicinatti at Miami Win
8. Miami at Virginia Tech Loss
9. North Carolina at Miami Win
10. Florida State at Miami Win
11. Miami vs. Virginia Win
12. Pittsburgh at Miami Win

Terrance Sullivan

TonyCane we wont go to the ACC Title game by using your metrics because VT aint losing 3 conference games as they don't play FSU, Clemson, or Louisville. So the season would be another epic fail. If we lose to FSU and VT only yea we would be 10-2 and going to some bowl game. I mean at least we would have gotten the 10 win drought out the way but another year not winning the division would suck royally. IJS.

VA,

Congratulations to you & your son. I'm sure that whatever path he takes, he will be successful as a result of your influence.

I knew a guy in college taking pre-pharmacy, making straight A's and looking like he had the world by the ass. He came back to school for 2 weeks at the end of one summer said fk it and took off.

To make a long story short, he got married, had 2 fine boys (one an English teacher in Japan and the other in computer technology). He flew medivac for an ambulance service while working for a large gas/electric utility, went back & got a degree and is now the safety director for the utility.

One just never knows.

I was talking to friend of mine yesterday, He's a manager at a Super Target. He was telling me He interviewed a former Cane, and He said this young man didn't even have employable skills for Super Target. Which is kinda crazy, because 9 times outta 10, most kids coming outta HS & College, end up working in some type of retail. My friend was telling me that the courses He took in College (Humanities,Accounting 101,Statistics), prepared Him immensely for His job at target.

About 3 hours ago my son graduated from HS. An outstanding baseball player as well as DB who played left corner like his old man, wore #40 and was called the Hitman like his old man, he reports tomorrow to work as a pipefitter at a business with a good starting wage. I wanted him to play and go to college, but he said that was not his path. He will have a spot on my staff this summer, and will eventually take over the squad. I am very proud of him.

Letting Haslem go, or trading him, would be almost the toughest decision they could make. Birdman has been playing great too, so that would be a tough one.

CaneRock

What's scarier about the Heat, is with some creative accounting, they can get BETTER! But a tough decision they gotta make, is do they keep Haslem?...or Birdman?

UMike

I read that they knew about the issue before the game or at the start of the game, but didnt tell the Heat until the 2nd or something...

### NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who succeeded David Stern on Feb. 1, said Sunday night that the breakdown of the air conditioning during Game 1 “is certainly not one of my prouder moments of my short tenure” and “wasn’t handled perfectly.”

Silver said that a few minutes before Game 1, the league was told that one of the main circuits that controls the water pump had broken. At&TCenter officials told the league they tried to reset it several times and determined late in the second quarter that they could not fix the circuit breaker. But the Heat was not informed of the problem until during the second quarter.

Glad we offered a kicker/punter. Looking a little light in that key area.

Heat need to finish this at home in game 6, if not sooner. Otherwise, I'm predicting an AC problem for game 7.

Speedster Nathan Cottrell committed to Georgia Tech on Monday, one day after earning an offer at summer camp.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder is only ranked as a 2-star but he has been obliterating the camp circuit with his 40-yard times. The running back from Knoxville, Tenn., committed to Georgia Tech in a hurry.
“Well the situation I’m in with them being the first big school to offer, it put them in a situation where we are committed to you if you are committed to them,” Cottrell told the AJC.

This summer, Cottrell has been turning heads with his blazing speed. He was clocked at 4.36 seconds at Middle Tennessee State and 4.36 at Duke. Cottrell was timed at 4.33 by Georgia Tech, which generated an immediate offer.

“I ran a 4.33, and (Paul Johnson) said we have some 4.4 type guys but it’s very rare we see a consistent 4.3 guy,” Cottrell said.

Two former Trinity High School football stars and current in-state college players were cited for possession of marijuana by University of Louisville police on May 26, according to U of L police uniform citations obtained by The Courier-Journal.

U of L receiver James Quick and University of Kentucky defensive end Jason Hatcher, who both will be sophomores in the fall, were in Quick's apartment on U of L's campus when university police responded to a complaint of marijuana odor in the building.

The officer who wrote the citation noted he found 39.5 grams of marijuana in Quick's possession, plus a digital scale and a marijuana grinder, which prompted Quick's citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

CR.. that is true... unless the Heat beat themselves.. a 3pt barrage normally does the trick lol... Really every player they got can be scary, they are very deep.

I think so, too. But like I said in my previous post, Green is good for at least one more monster game behind the arc.

YUP!

But I will say, the player that scares me most on SA, is Green. I think He's good for at least one more game, where He just goes ballistic behind the arc. Seems like that's the only way to beat the Heat LOL.

UMike

The detailed routine can be so tiresome, so tedious, that Ray Allen admits he feels “like a prisoner to it.”

But there is never any internal questioning of it, no respites from a way of life that includes thousands of pregame shots every season, carefully watching calories, visualizing bald eagles and avoiding the midcourt line (more on this later).

In his estimation, the commitment to the relentlessly repetitive regimen is a big reason why he’s still thriving at 38, why he still has signature moments like those in Game 1, when he produced 16 points, five steals, three rebounds, three assists and an electric out-of-nowhere dunk.

“He’s never deviated from the routine, and that’s what I find most astounding,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “I sat him out a game last year against Charlotte right before the playoffs. His ankle was sore so I wasn’t going to play him that game. He still took a cab over to the arena. He couldn’t do his whole shooting routine but he still did his whole free-throw routine, still there four hours before the game. That’s why we call him Everyday Ray.”

Here’s what Everyday Ray looks like on game day:

Pancakes in the morning, followed by a team shoot-around, a banana and peanut butter or a turkey sandwich (if he burns calories at shoot-around), then a 90-minute nap, followed by a 2:30 p.m. meal featuring chicken or fish, a vegetable and a carb (preferably white rice).

He arrives at the arena 3 ½ hours before tip-off (long before most players), has his head shaved before every game; stretches and launches anywhere from 120 to 200-plus shots during a grueling session that he has done every game since 1997, his second season in the league. (He will take more shots if he’s missing many of them.)

“Before the [expletive] workers even get here, he’s at the gym getting shots up,” marvels Rashard Lewis, who values Allen’s mentoring dating to their years in Seattle together. “I don’t know how he does it. I’m taking a nap and he’s probably at the gym getting ready for the game. I don’t know that I could be as disciplined as he is. It’s unbelievable.”

Each session begins with a post-up, and “I have to make a basket touching every part of the floor.”

He believes the Cavaliers cheerleaders once tried to sabotage him during his pre-game shooting: “They littered the floor and started dancing. It was intentional. These are the distractions I deal with all the time. They turned the lights out in Sacramento but I kept shooting.”

Allen used to take a cab to the arena for road games, but the Heat last season began paying for a bus to drive Allen to the arena early, often with James Jones and then-Heat swingman Mike Miller, and occasionally others. Most of the players come to the arena on a later bus.

For Allen, there is also a psychological element to everything he does. During the National Anthem before games, he visualizes big baskets in his career, big games that he’s played in, even memorable moments in other sports. Essentially, “things that have inspired me to be better.”

One of those visuals that come to mind during the Anthem “is watching bald eagles fly. Eagles watch everyone from above.”

Allen believes he has a few behavioral tendencies associated with obsessive compulsive disorder but said he doesn't use that term “out of respect” to people diagnosed with the condition.

“I can’t touch certain lines on the floor,” he said. “If there’s a timeout, I won’t walk on the line across the middle of the floor. I will walk around it.”

He tries to clean up scuff marks on the court. If his children walk around a pole, Allen must walk the same way they did. They don't believe in splitting poles, so to speak. He weighs himself twice a day and adjusts his diet even if he gains half a pound.

The Boston Globe relayed a story several years ago about Allen walking on the airplane one night and telling Paul Pierce: “You’re in the wrong seat.”

Pierce responded: “Man, there’s a hundreds seats open. Leave me alone.” Pierce, good-naturedly, has called Allen crazy.

This season, Michael Beasley parked in the spot that Allen likes to use at AmericanAirlines Arena. “He had a fender bender and I said, ‘That’s what you get for parking in my spot,’” Allen said.

When he was child, Allen forced himself to make five right-handed layups and then five left-handed layups before he could leave the gym. If he ran out of time or was forced off the court by others, “I cried,” he told The Globe. “It messed up my day.”

In Boston, Allen would scold Eddie House for shooting half-court shots at the other team’s basket during halftime, saying it was bad luck.

Ask him if he has any friends in pro sports outside of the NBA, and he mentions one: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They text occasionally during their seasons and golf together during their offseasons.

Allen knows he’s still plenty good enough but will decide in late June whether he has the desire not only to play next season, but to do everything in his routine that allows him to function with a clear mind. It would be surprising if he retires.

Go Canes.. Miami is definitely capable of beating them in 5... Wade asnt even got going yet and we have yet to have a big 3 point game from any of our shooters. If we commit to playing D we can beat them in 5... BUT.. the Spurs are a dam good team and it would be very hard to do. They are mentally tough and very talented.

In game one the Heat was totally gassed by the end of the fourth, both from the heat and not having LeBron playing his normal rotation of minutes. They were up seven and in control half way thorugh the fourth when James went down and the wheels fell off.

A healthy James and a working AC and the Heat are up 2-0 in this series.

I can see the Heat winning this thing in 5 with three of the next four at home.

UMike

CR.. most of those 3's were wide open looks. The D was great before James went out an then the rotations were VERY slow. Its crazy watching a 6'9 260 lbs forward chase and cover someone as quick as Tony Parker.

If Spo doesnt take out James for a rest in the 3rd who knows how many more points he goes for lol

CaneRock

If Miami could play D like they did in the 4th all series they wouldnt lose another game.

Posted by: UMike | June 09, 2014 at 07:21 AM

Miami's actually played em' pretty good in both games. What killed Miami in G1, was that scoring (3pt) barrage the Spurs went on in the 4th Quarter. And when you break it down to the lowest common denominator, the Spurs don't match up to Miami defensively, even with their "deep bench". Splitter can't handle Bosh...Diaw on James is a glaring mis-match...and Leonard isn't the "James Stopper" they say He was. But I'll tell you what else too...that 7 game series against the Spurs last year, made Lebron James a better player than ANY other game He played BEFORE that. They forced em' to shoot jumpers, and He MADE EM'!...SIMPLE!

Not at all. I've suspected this taking before, but this was pretty obvious. I think that they were upset that they almost lost to us yesterday and were down to only 4 kids (due to fouls) in the last minute of the game. We should have won, but you can't when your guys go 2 for 12 from the free throw line.

If we ever play these guys again I hope we bring in our entire varsity squad onto the roster as well. Then we'll see who celebrates.

VA Cane

Sounds like they mixed the squads...and play who they want. does not sound quite fair does it?

TonyCane

Perhaps VA Cane can answer this...yesterday my son's JV AAU team was playing in a tournament against a team that was a bit short handed with 6 players. Today, missing our best player, we got knocked out in the semifinals and had to play the same team from Saturday in a consolation game. This time out opponents had 13 kids. I asked a father from the other team where these kids were yesterday. He said most of them were football kids who were playing yesterday.

So...what is more likely:

1) That there is summer league high school football?

2) That our opponents mixed their varsity and JV squads!

VA Cane

I know we all want to win; not winning often is tough. We did win 9 last year, but we fell apart at the end. I make no excuses, it just happened.

I hate to lose. I have not lost hardly any in the last 7, and if I do it is not different to me. If we win, I am happy for my boys and its all about what they did. If we lose its tough; we have lost 1 regular season game, but we won the SB anyway that year. 2 times we have lost in the playoffs and did not get to SB. Those were painful to me, but there was no excuse we lost to a better team that day. I take it in stride and learn from it. You learn a lot from losing; you figure out better preparation and approaches, and you realize you hate it!!!

Terrance Sullivan

Great stuff VA.

VA Cane

I love UM. I love the history, the glory the great players I have been able to meet. I met HS when he first came here as he was a neighbor to my aunt and uncle. I went over there with my uncle several time; he was amazing how he saw and felt about the game. I was just getting into coaching and he had a big effect on how I thought. He was great. My favorite Canes are odd in ways; Rusty Medearis was such a great player he never quit ever. Even hurt he fought and I loved him. My all time absolute fav always will be Rohan Marley. He was a little man playing a giants game like a giant!!!! Pound for pound he hit harder than any Cane I have ever seen. ST26 a great great man who overshadowed everyone on the field. I never cared for the talkers like Sapp and Irvin. I loved their play just too much mouth. Damn I love the Hurricanes.

I am also a realist and I look at things as a coach. We have had great times, and some real lean ones the last 10. Clappy and Randy just did not do the job right. Good men bad job of coaching. AlPa has done good under some trying times; I like him as a man, ands hes going in the right direction. I like the recent additions like Duke, Chad Thomas, and I like Kaaya a lot. I think he sees an alley a direction to go in. He has a tough schedule this year. I think if some basics come together...a QB develops into a leader, the line really steps up and we can run it strong, taking pressure off QB and then we can pass....the D improves and ST show up...we can have a good year. I do not predict records, never have really. Lets go out make a great showing, give it all we got and I think it will be a good year.

I love the Canes, but I am not a homer, I try to see it in real time and color...only way I know. JMO

Canes hate to lose! There's nothing wrong with that.

Good call, Monte. Still don't care what anyone says about this lucky as hell regular season. We couldn't hit water from a boat. There is consistently one major flaw in Morris squads that prevent them from being serious contenders. Gotta cut the guy loose.

Gollege baseball...

In 2014, Monte Lee completed his sixth season as head coach at the College of Charleston. Lee, a former College of Charleston standout and South Carolina assistant coach, was named the Cougars' head coach on July 3, 2008.

In December of 2012, Lee was named one of Baseball America's Top 10 Head Coaches Under 40 in all of college baseball. He was also named to Perfect Game's Top 10 Rising Head Coaches list.

Miami should make him an offer...

Dude on a Pale Horse

Ugh, hockey.

Just kidding tonights game was good because there was a lot of scoring. Hockey would be so much better if there was that much scoring on average.
