NEW BLOG IS UP!

VA Cane

My son although only 9 is starting his 5th year of football, that includes both spring, fall and optional workout football. a solid 10/11 months a year. My son is in shape like you would not believe and it almost broke him. Fucking tears.

Posted by: SOUP | July 30, 2014 at 08:21 AM

Very nice to see a young man that dedicated. This is what it takes to be the best. There are so many important things that go into this game; dedication, conditioning and strong fundamentals good player development and coaching are the foundation. If you have that, you can succeed.

We start officially Friday, but my guys have been at it all year round; we started doing our group stuff in June when schools out. Not one of the 31 other schools does group activity. The rules say you cannot have organized practices like in the season, but we do not. We throw catch do drills in shorts shirts. We play basketball to build wind, and ride the bikes for long distance to develop stamina and wind. The league ok'd my activity long ago after someone questioned it as practice. They said it was a group doing things together. The others could do it, but other coaches say they can get 4 or 5 but not the whole team. Say the kids want to do other things.

Funny I tell everyone who can play for us they can come if they want to, but not mandatory. Has nothing to do with your status in the season. All are welcome, and all will play. My boys told me yesterday we got a new kid who just moved here that is 6+ 200 already, wants to play, has played. He is coming today via my guys inviting him out. Looks like another big OL/DL guy. I welcome them all.

Funny how other teams do not see we work at success as a TEAM; my guys do other things but football is important to them. They want to WIN, they want to be the best...in life family school and football. Thats why I love my guys; they see the big picture of winning in positive ways in all things. That is my message to them, why I keep doing this in year 36!!!!!

For People not from Florida and want to know how serious football is in this state here goes. My son although only 9 is starting his 5th year of football, that includes both spring, fall and optional workout football. a solid 10/11 months a year. He wakes up every day. does 100 push ups, 100 sit ups 100 kicks with each leg 100 punches with each hand. Does 100 jump ropes and runs 5 back and forth sprints with the parachute on 100 yards or close to it. My full block. He is 2 belts away from second degree black belt and I hope he has it by March of next year if not sooner. They had their first day of pad's practice today and although my son was not one of the many kids to stop because he was feeling sick or was puking, I saw tears of pain running from his eyes, My son is in shape like you would not believe and it almost broke him. Fucking tears. That is why Florida produces the best of the best, BAR NONE.

I like this very much.

That is all.

VA Cane

If you'd like to settle down and respond in a civil manner, I'll gladly respond in a civilized manner. If not, this conversation is ended.

I didn't know I was settled up....there is nothing to settle no harm no foul just different opinions and approaches to the game. We might not agree on the merits of shownmanship; I look at it as a passing fancy and fad from the past...and it does not fit into what I teach and develop on the field and in my opinion it does not covey winning. It may have then, maybe it was their bond. Either way we all have a right to our opinions and if thats what you like I am 100% behind you.

Lurker

Hell yea

I loved those days. Gators hadn't even sniffed their first NC yet and we had four. They hated us.

CaneRock

and I'd be willing to bet you were into the canes just like they were too.

Posted by: Lurker | July 29, 2014 at 11:59 PM

ABSOLUTELY!

Lurker

Really I thought this was between him and me, but ok.

If you noticed, I didn't accuse him of lacking self control in "real life", my comment was that self control should carry over to when you are challenged, politely, on something you've written.

Also I absolutely do not apologize nor have any regrets about totally immersing myself in that type of attitude years ago when I was younger. A lot of people don't think that was a lack of sportsmanship, but just an expression of culture and joy. Of course, those are 15 yd penalties now, so those days are gone.

As far as I see it, it was only the oldtimers, gator lovers, and starched fuddy duddies back then that constantly complained, and I'd be willing to bet you were into the canes just like they were too.

30CINCO

Lack of sportsmanship for that? All Cane nation would be guilty. It's a bit of a reach.

CaneRock

Also, as a parent, volunteer coach myself, I would think you would have a well developed sense of self control which is essential in dealing with youth.

Posted by: Lurker | July 29, 2014 at 11:37 PM

LMAO! Oh no you didn't!:

So if you can assume that VAC lacks self control by His posts, He can also assume you lack sportsmanship by yours.

"I loved it - winning with FY swagger."

Posted by: Lurker | July 29, 2014 at 06:39 PM

Lurker

Seriously, I'm not understanding your line of conversation.

Let's recap. You came on with an absolute condemnation of players with that old loud Miami swag, I just checked you politely, by pointing out that that was EXACTLY Miami the first 4 of 5 NC's.

Also, your constant wishing of injuries on players you don't like, you might want to rethink that attitude. This is the first time I've ever read a canes fan taking satisfaction in a Canes injury: "It did not hurt my feelings when he got carried off" --- "he" being Michael Irvin.

So what's your comeback? That screed you wrote up there? You need to think through some of your comments, in my opinion. Also, as a parent, volunteer coach myself, I would think you would have a well developed sense of self control which is essential in dealing with youth.

If you'd like to settle down and respond in a civil manner, I'll gladly respond in a civilized manner. If not, this conversation is ended.

Yes the last one 10 years ago...That may have been the way it was in the day...way back when... UM got the best players in the country and there was less of a level playing field for that talent...but where its all gone Bro? Oh how things have changed since then in football, the snake eats it's tail eventually. Of course you loved it....you were a young non-playing fan who did the same thing. Congrats!!

I knew I saw you somewhere...at the 2005 Peach Bowl vs LSU, 2008 Emerald Bowl vs Cal, the 2009 Champs Sports Bowl vs Wisconsin, the 2010 Sun Bowl vs Notre Dame, and the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl vs Louisville....and the last 4 years winning at 57%....still dancing, trash talking, giving the world the finger.....and ...Oh.....losing badly losing but still displaying that FY swagger yea its nice to finish in the second 25 on a regular basis in the nation and talk about it...all the while giving yourself a hand job with a glove on instead of competing for the title in the New Age of Reality.....sing on singer, play on drummer....keep believing thats how the game is played....you will get there Bro .....yea LOL!!!!!!

Don't be surprised if Gray plays this year and make an impact. Gray was a five star talent. I saw Gray play several times and I saw Gray play against Central and he was one of the best (IF not the best) playmaker on the field.

MO CABBAGE:

“If Muschamp's job is in jeopardy, yeah I think they can lose those guys,” Tyson said. “But if they go 8-5 or something like that, which is certainly not ideal, but if recruits see that they are competitive in every game and they look like they are turning the corner, then they'll still get some of those guys.”

So the recruits are really no different than the fans. Before they can make any judgments, everyone wants to see this offense under new coordinator Kurt Roper. If it shows promise, then star players are likely to show a commitment.

If things get ugly, this class could be one of the worst in the SEC. It's already turned strange for the Gators. They only have seven players committed to the 2015 class, the least in the SEC, and it's almost August. Mississippi State has 26.

Makes a person wonder, for sure.

Posted by: SOUP | July 29, 2014 at 10:08 AM

Exactly what happened to Miami in 2010 during Shannon's last year. If they get off to a slow start, that number could dwindle further.

This is Florida's window of vulnerability. Golden needs to capitalize and work on flipping some players!

Is North Marion the school that Stephen Fields is at? Stephen Fields was the former MNW HC, FYI...

CaneRock

The Canes hosted North Marion LB De’Amontae Jackson two weeks ago, and he tells CaneInsider that his visit to Coral Gables elevated the Canes into his Top 3.

“I’ve spent the last couple of weeks taking visits to Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, and Miami,” he said. “I toured UM’s campus with my coach and later that day, I spent some time with Artie Burns, and he told me about what it’s like to play at Miami.”

Jackson revealed that the Hurricanes made up a lot of ground on his visit.

“After speaking with my coach, we both liked our visit and now I have a Top 3 of Auburn, Miami, and UCF. That’s who I’m thinking about.”

Jackson says Hurlie Brown and Mark D’Onofrio are recruiting him, and that they’ve discussed playing fullback instead of inside linebacker.

“The coaches told me they like how I move around for a big guy, so there’s a couple of possibilities at Miami for me.”

North Marion’s standout talked about what will be important to him as decides on a program to play for on the next level.

“The feeling of being at home is important to me. I also want to attend where I feel like the coaching staff that recruited me will be there for my whole career and a place where my family can come see me play,” he said. “I’m also looking for a solid education and early playing time.”

The 6-foot, 245-pound linebacker said he’s been invited to the US Army All-American game scheduled early next January.

The Defense overall, the OL being mobile smart and hostile, and that QB slot making good decisions and not in panic mode will be the key. If we can protect the QB, block for the backs, stop some people and get steady play out of the QB whomever it may be we will be ok this year. Need to be ready, win and finish strong.

Very strong recruiting by staff. Great job. I take it with a grain of salt, but hope for very best. We need to take care of business this year. Ensure these guys are not verbal commits, but rather solid committed recruits. Win this year is all it takes. Strong year, strong finish will be a great positive factor. We will see how it turns out.

I am hopeful for Mike Jr and Tim I, but I am not impressed with Loudmouth Uncle Mike acting like its his decision to make. I hope they do come, but let the kids decide what is best for them. They are kids and should be given their space to decide.

Mike was a great player; his character and big mouth are another thing. It did not hurt my feelings when he got carried off; they were looking to punish him for all the talk he did. Great great player; too much talk too often for me. Yea, sure Mike, the last crack pipe you got caught with was one you took from your brother and were getting rid of, but forgot to do so. Had to load it again huh?
Again great player; cannot watch or even listen to him, Sapp or Lamar Thomas. Mike and Sapp great HOFers; Thomas not even close, ever. I would rather hear someone else.

SMU sells nearly $350K in beer, wine at ball games

DALLAS -- Figures show SMU sold nearly $350,000 in beer and wine at basketball games since sales began in January.

The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/1nDuSn6 ) reported Tuesday that the $350,000 is for gross sales. Details are from the state comptroller's office and university records. Part of the proceeds go to vendor Aramark.

Athletic department spokesman Brad Sutton says beer and wine sales, which started Jan. 4 at Moody Coliseum, made up more than half of the $650,000 in food and other concessions sold at games.

SMU students age 21 and older were limited to three beers per game, with stubs on a wristband used to confirm purchases.

The school will allow beer sales at football games this fall. Alcohol is already permitted in luxury suites at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

-----------------------------------------------

UM on Canada DL's recruiting map

4-star DL Neville Gallimore isn't your average recruit.

For one, he grew up in Canada and currently plays at St. Catharines Prep Football Academy in Ontario - they play against U.S. teams.

Also making him anything but ordinary: He's punted for club teams, and growing up he split time between playing football, basketball (he can dunk), soccer, volleyball and, yes, handball.

Certainly there's no denying his talent on the football field. He was timed at The Opening at 4.96 seconds in the 40, and he benches 365 pounds and squats 505.

At 6-3 and 311 pounds he's being recruited to play both end and tackle.

Gallimore currently lists 27 offers, including Miami (the Canes offered in May).

"I've done my research on Miami," Gallimore said. "When you talk about Miami, a lot of Hall of Famers come from that program. When you hear the name Miami, the Hurricanes, there's a lot of history behind it. When it comes to football they stand out.

"It's a good program, a school I'm definitely interested in. The amount of good players they've brought that have gone on to the next level ... there's a good education there, it's a well-respected school."

Gallimore says he has no favorites right now, and so far he's taken unofficial visits to Ohio State and Eastern Michigan. He has no other visits set up right now.

He says he is in the process of narrowing down his list and will have that done at some point this fall.

He says "it's a very great chance" he will visit Miami, but he says he's talking over his visit plans with his family and coaches.

Coach James Coley is recruiting him to UM.

"I talk to him often, and coach (Al) Golden, we talk over Twitter as well," Gallimore said. "They just let me know how important I am to them, how much I can definitely benefit the program. They're doing their jobs but also show how much I can value the University of Miami."

Gallimore says he plans to announce a final decision "most likely on signing day, but if not then it'll be during the U.S. Army game."

Of what he wants in a college, Gallimore said, "The connection I have with coaches, the program itself. And academics. The main thing is no matter where I go I'll be far away from home so I want it to be a home away from home, have a very strong connection with teammates and coaches."

And FYI:

Huge OL haul. Those 2 committing would put us at 6 commits with us leading for Bar Milo.

I think the rumors of T-Rob being in trouble with the NCAA are true. Like I said, they're just rumors, but that's a lot of decommits, especially a few DBs, which are his specialty.

HEY IS THAT SWAMP CABBAGE I SMELL OVA HERE?

Four players have dropped the Gators during the past week, including three defensive backs in Julius, Lewis and Jacksonville Trinity's Deontai Williams, who flipped to Georgia. Jacksonville First Coast receiver Tristan Payton also pulled out of his UF pledge and suddenly Gator Nation is starting to wonder what's going on with their beloved Swamp inhabitants.

It's human nature to think that something might be amok, but it's too soon to start jumping to conclusions. Sure, coach Will Muschamp and company have their work cut out for them in recruiting the 2015 class. On the heels of the worst season in memory in Gainesville, the Gators are looking to right a sinking ship.

“As an average fan, sure, I would be concerned,” said Derek Tyson, ESPN's SEC recruiting reporter who has covered Florida recruiting for much of the past decade. “My dad is an average fan and he called me and said, ‘Hey, what's going on with Florida?' That's the response.”

Barry:

"The Dolphins originally wanted UM's Stephen Morris to be Devlin's competition for the No. 3 job, but Morris accepted an offer from Jacksonville instead of an offer from the Dolphins immediately after the draft."

WTH is wrong with ESPN...those damn clowns said that UNC had a good chance to beat FSU AND Clemson. And that's AFTER they said that UNC only had 53 scholarship players last year. WTF! (CaneRock waving both His arms profusely) HERE WE ARE! HERE WE ARE! HELLOOOOOO!

Go Canes.. it might not have been Duke, could of been Perryman.. but in a recent article it said they lost 5 lbs cause they felt slower at whatever weight. But was surely one of those two lol

It was Perryman. He played at 240 last year and bulked up to 250 this spring. Unlike some random dudes off the street, he felt he was too slow and is now down to 244.

That Auburn defense was stacked, I forget they were pickin' us off for recruits a few years ago. Wasn't AJL a UM commit at one time?

2015 IMG Academy OL Tyree St. Louis is committing today at 2 O'clock. Gators have long been front runner, but some are saying he goes #UM.

Terrance Sullivan

TS,

You're thinking we lose to FSU twice and who else?

Go Canes

If you look back, Auburn had five consecutive top 10 classes going into last season.

Despite it's record that team was loaded with talent.
