The story about the humble beginnings and later phenomenal success of University of Miami offensive lineman Jon Feliciano cannot be overstated.
From being the first in his family to graduate from college to being a starting guard (and tackle) on the Hurricanes' offensive line Jon has consistently set the bar very high for himself, his family and his teammates.
His mother, the always friendly and personable Mrs. Feliciano, is always fun to hang out with at tailgate parties at Sun Life Stadium.
We have had many meaningful and insightful conversations with her before and after games in recent years.
So from all of here at Canespace we want to say that we appreciate Jon and his significant contributions to the UM football team.
His strong commitment, incredible dedication and consistent performance on the field have been a steadying force for the Hurricanes.
And even more than that we want to say that we respect him for what he has achieved in his life so far and wish him the best in whatever his future holds.
Is it so?

Not sure if this was posted....Ariz...
**Florida State has made a major move with JaQuan Johnson after his visit there last week. FSU had never really been a true contender for him before the visit, but that has changed. I'm told that Johnson was feeling the environment in Tallahassee. Tim Irvin remains a key to Johnson's recruitment. Irvin will be visiting Miami again once the coaches get back in town.
**Nobody would be surprised if Mark Walton were to decommit from Miami at this point. As I've posted for about a month now, Miami has recruited him as a 2016 kid and have been content with their current hail at running back for the 2015 class. Miami obviously wants Walton, but the uncertainty of his reclassification status has made makes the situation tricky. Also, I'm told that reports that Golden was not answering Walton's calls were false. "Golden doesn't reject people's calls."
**I reported last week that the Cronkrites would be meeting the staff this week to work through any lingering issues, but that meeting has not happened yet because Golden wants to be in town for it. This is still expected to take place soon and things continue to trend upward as far as the chances Cronkrite stick. Ohio State has been persistent in trying to get Cronkrite up to visit during the summer, but still nothing has been planned.
**Over the past few months, I have not been shy in saying that Trayone Gray qualifying would be a long shot. Over the past month though, Miami had changed their tune to "cautiously optimistic". Now, they are full out expecting not only Trayone Gray, but Darrell Langham to both be here by the start of camp. I'm not sure I can put into words how big of a pull Gray would be. The guy is supremely talented but some schools stayed away because of grades issues. This would be one of the great gets of the Golden Era.
**Carlton Davis is set to announce on August 12th. Davis is near the top of Miami's board at corner and they are absolutely enamored with the physicality he brings to the position. The thought of him lined up opposite Artie Burns is scary. As far as Miami's chances, I'm told that he has not made his decision yet but the Canes are hopeful.
**Look for Miami's newest 2016 commit Ahmmon Richards to play defensive back here.
**Reminder that Tallahassee Godby OT Brendan Loftus will be announcing his decision next Tuesday at a school ceremony. Miami remains the favorite. Other top targets at OL are Jalen Merrick and Bar Milo. Miami has a good chance with both at the moment.

4.21 seconds and 40.5 inches: Senior wide receiver Phillip Dorsett’s team-low average 40-yard dash time, which broke Sam Shields’ team record (4.26). Dorsett, who was the fastest Cane last year at 4.29, ran 4.16 on one of his heats according to UM. Dorsett also had the top vertical leap on the squad (40.5 inches), blowing by running back Duke Johnson (36.5) and receivers David Njoku and Herb Waters (35.5).
362 and 318 pounds: The power-clean marks hit by running back Gus Edwards and left guard Jonathan Feliciano (362) and safety Jamal Carter (318). Each set a new high at their position. Edwards broke Willis McGahee’s record (unknown), Feliciano set a new record at his position, and Carter topped Sean Taylor (308). Edwards and Feliciano’s 362s were the best power cleans on the team – Edwards also ran a very quick 4.58 average in the 40, with a top heat of 4.49. In the power clean, next in line were defensive end Anthony Chickillo and right guard Danny Isidora (352), defensive end Ufomba Kamalu and linebackers Raphael Kirby and Denzel Perryman (342). Freshman linebackers Darrion Owens and Juwon Young (332) were after that. Carter tied right tackle Taylor Gadbois and rush end Tyriq McCord at 318.
605 pounds and 4.49 seconds: Perryman’s team-best squat max was the best of any linebacker in program history. Perryman (6-0, 245) also had the third-fastest 40 among linebackers, with a 4.71 average. He finished behind junior Raphael Kirby (4.64) and sophomore Jermaine Grace (6-1, 210), who blazed his way to a 4.49 (with a top run of 4.43). His average was eighth-fastest on the team, behind Dorsett (4.21), receiver Herb Waters (4.39), Johnson (4.42), receiver Malcolm Lewis (4.43), cornerbacks Corn Elder (4.46) and Antonio Crawford (4.47) and receiver Stacy Coley (4.48).

From ESPN Bills Blog
Undrafted rookie linebacker Jimmy Gaines received some first-team reps in team drills in place of Nigel Bradham, who stepped in with the second team for some parts of the drill. Gaines made his presence known on one play, diving to break up a Manuel pass to Brown in the flat. The Bills are trying to piece things together after losing Alonso for the season, and Gaines is the latest player in the mix. The favorite, and the most experienced of the bunch, remains Bradham.

I wonder how anyone would know our coaches told a kid to lose weight, just for highschool.
And if we added 30 pounds to him he'd be a 6'1" 260 pound linebacker.
Don't see may of those on our roster.

Quick Monday morning UM update:
The Jake Heaps/Kevin Olsen quarterback battle will be the most fascinating story of UM camp, with Heaps' starting experience at BYU and Kansas giving him one clear advantage.
Freshmen Brad Kaaya and Malik Rosier will be given a chance when practice starts Aug. 5, but it would be very surprising if either starts Labor Day night in Louisville. Al Golden will cut the quarterback competition from four to two fairly early in camp, and Heaps and Olsen are front-runners to be those two.
UM expects Ryan Williams to be back at some point this season but genuinely doesn't know when that will happen. Williams keeps saying he's targeting September, but that would be far sooner than players typically return from ACL injuries.
Couple comments from Heaps from today's conference call:
### Heaps said "it's absolutely vital" he wins the quarterback job. "I didn't come here to be the backup. You have to come and earn that. Nobody is going to give that to you. I have the ability to perform to the level this team needs."
### "I'm a pro style quarterback, a drop back quarterback. I can read defenses extremely well, manage the game. My strengths fit really well with what we're trying to do here. [Offensive coordinator James] Coley's offense is a true pro-style offense. I feel good about who I am, feel very confident in my abilities as a passer."
### What does he need to improve on? "When the pressure is coming on, making sure I'm making the right decision. I'm definitely not a runner, but I'm confident in my abilities in being mobile and moving around in the pocket."
### UM "was a situation it was too good to turn down [with] the personnel here and how talented they are. This receiver corps is extremely strong."
### "I've been here since the end of June and engrossed myself in football. I've stayed in the dorms, studying football 24/7. I feel very comfortable with where I'm at. I've been here [in the football building] as much as I possibly can. The only time I go back to my dorm room is to sleep."
### Heaps, who transferred from Kansas this off-season after the Jayhawks changed quarterbacks and offensive style, said: "It's been vital to show [UM teammates] what a hard worker I am. The only way I can gain their respect is" through work ethic and "show these guys how much I love the game and be out here every single day."
### Heaps, on Al Golden: "I wouldn't say it's a disciplinary style. But doing things the right way is how I would describe it."
### Heaps, on UM's freshmen quarterbacks: "Brad is more of your true drop-back passer. Malik is more throwing and running. Those guys are going to be good here."
The hunch here is if Heaps and Olsen are comparable in August, Heaps would have the edge because of experience, especially with such a difficult opening game. But Olsen could win it by clearly outplaying Heaps in August. We'll see.

Grantham seems like an aggressive DC...I can see a screen or 2 going for big gains. And if our line can give whomever's under Center AT LEAST 3 seconds, were in business. Either way, we gotta make em' pay for stackin' the box with the pass game, and/or, we gotta make em' pay for playing 6 or 7 in the box with the run game. I prefer the latter...throw to run.
