Shaquille Quarterman excited about Miami's future

Oakleaf High in Orange Park, Florida recently produced current Miami Hurricane Darrion Owens. Now they have another future Hurricane linebacker in 2016 stud Shaquille Quarterman.

Shaquille committed to Miami on June 24th, a few days after attending the Al Golden Football Camp. His commitment helped start a recruiting hot streak for Miami as the 'Canes have added a total of eight commitments in the 2015 and 2016 classes since that date.

As one of the premier linebackers in the country, Quarterman was a massive pickup for the Miami staff. Why did he commit to Miami so quickly?

"I've been a die-hard Hurricanes fan since I came out of the womb," said Quarterman.

"For me I just love it there. It is home. They offer what I want academically. I really love the defensive scheme and how they plan to use me. I just want to call Miami home," Quarterman said.

At six-foot-one, 233-pounds, Quarterman is a physical freak. He describes himself as physical, and unstoppable on the field and would compare his playing style to San Francisco 49ers star Patrick Willis.

Quarterman believes the transition to the next level will not be too difficult because of the similarities in scheme with his high school and Miami.

"Coach (D'Onofrio) and his scheme is what I am used to in high school," said Quarterman. "It should be pretty easy to adjust to that when I get there because I'm ready to make an impact on day one and earn playing time as a freshman. I mean, I am on a mission."

Quarterman says Miami fans have a lot to be excited for the future.

"The program is already going in the right direction right now. I feel like I am going to be a big part of that too, because I see myself having a prosperous career as a Miami Hurricane. I know we are going to win a lot more games and we are going to get back to the old Miami."

Quarterman credits wide receivers coach Brennan Carroll as the coach who has made the most impact on him during his recruitment.

So Miami is still paying Miller for Cleveland, Miami still owes Cleveland a draft pick AND Cleveland got James back... kinda sucks lol

It really does suck. Arison should've just ate that tax hit last year...when you think back on it, it actually was a different team without Miller.

UMike

CR.. IDK if they would of won a title cause the Spurs were so dam good, but it hurt. Miami is now paying Miller to help James lol... I still think Miami will be a top 3-4 team in the East next year, especially if Wade stays healthy and keeps his percentage up. Spo has a good system and we got good players. If Rose is healthy I think they are the clear cut #1 in the East. Pacers just lost a major player.

CaneRock

Pacers just lost a major player.

WOW! That was news to me, I didn't know He was signing with Charlotte. Look at MJ makin' moves LOL.

Go Canes

They weren't going to beat the Spurs with Miller.

To me this is LeBron's camp adding further spin to his "Ohio kid goes home" campaign, to be sure he gets as little bad press as possible.

CaneRock

I didn't say they would've beat the Spurs with Miller, but I do think it would've been a different series with Him in the line-up. But I do agree with Lebron's camp wanting to much access, good thing Riley told em' to GTFOH! with that $h!t!

UMike

I dont think James should be getting any bad press, he didnt do anything wrong or shady. The east will be wide open next season.

Ohio_Cane

My guess on playoff seeds next year for the East:

1 - Chicago
2 - Cleveland
3 - Toronto
4 - Indiana
5 - Miami
6 - New York
7 - Brooklyn
8 - Washington

Can/Will the HEAT get Boozer?

Terrance Sullivan

Ohio Cane Washington is better than both New York and Brooklyn come on man. SMDH.

Ohio_Cane

We'll see this year TSully. I'm not a believer yet. Thought they had a good run this year, but I'll be surprised to see it again.

CaneRock

Lebron will have to cover more defincicies in Cleveland, than He did in Miami. Where are the shooters? Where are the guys that can bang the boards night in & night out? Who on that team can hit a jump shot consistently? No doubt, that Lebron's talent & presence is good for a 20 win increase, but I don't see that squad winning 12 games in the playoffs to get to the NBAFs...and I definitely don't see them winning 16 to win a 'Ship.

UMike

Im not sure Cleveland climbs that high.. unless they end up with Love. They are young, never played together and have a rookie (NBA) head coach. Miami and Indiana couple trade spots. Indiana could drop as low as 7-8. Miami could end up anywhere from the 1-6 seed. It will certainly be wide open.

They still have cap space for 1 more, so we'll see.

UMike

I think he has to clear waivers first, from what I understand it is possible, but may be hard to pull off.

Wishful thinking by Ohio for his beloved Cavaliers.

Love U too, Lurker.

-----------------------------------------------
This will not work due to the divisions they are in. Chi, Cle, Ind are all in the same division. Winners of the 3 divisions are ranked 1-3.

The battle for Mia will be with Wash as they are in the same div. Winner is guaranteed one of top 3 seeds. Wash is good, they need to prove it again before one can say they would beat out a Mia with a proven DWade/LikeaBosh combo.

So many unknowns going into next season in the East. Heats post LeBron, Cavs youth w/ LeBron, Washington's emergence, Rose coming back, Ind losing w/out Stevenson. Regular season will be way more exciting, that's for sure.

UMike

30 I agree man.. lots of unknowns. Should be fun to watch.

Ohio_Cane

30, I'm just randomly thinking about teams and what I saw last year plus what I've seen added. I didn't go through and make sure it would all work out exactly. Lol

CaneRock

On another note, WITW! was Riley thinking in 08'! He took Beasley, over Westbrook & Love! Can ya'll imagine a D.Wade in His prime, running the open court with Westbrook & James...CRAZY! And we also took Chalmers 1 spot before DeAndre Jordan!

Ohio_Cane

James Jones to the Cavs lol

UMike

CR.. that happens every draft.. Beasley was thought of as a sure pick then..

Dam JJ.. but then again, the Heat didnt use him that much.

UMike

I have a feeling Ohio is secretly happy right now lol

UMike

Does Allen go to the Cavs too???? lol

UMike

Just watched the Bethel video.. now I will never ever be ok with a man hitting a woman.. but it certainly doesnt look as bad as I thought. She hits first and he kinda gives a quick jab and then walks away, he knew he messed up lol

CaneRock

UMike...maybe, but what Riley saw in Wade, He should've saw in Westbrook. And I remember watching Beasley that year, and He just didn't really jump out to me.

UMike

I think Bethel thought she was a man lol.. their balling she fighting for rebound when she gets aggressive lol

UMike

I thought Beasly and Rose were the clear picks.. although I dont follow college ball that much. I never heard of Westbrook to a few years ago lol

Ohio_Cane

I just find it funny the shooters are following Lebron

Ohio_Cane

UMike, where U see the Bethel video?

UMike

Ohio.. he draw so much attention and all they have to do is sit and wait lol..

Someone posted a link on Twitter, TTU released a video.. was only a 24 sec clip

Beasley and Rose were the top 2 picks at that time. Beasley was a scoring and rebounding machine at KState. He was supposed to be the #1 pick throughout the whole year until D-Rose made that tournament run. The run plus him being the hometown kid locked Rose to Chicago.

The Heat had the worst record that year before and were "supposed" to have the #1 pick. Friends and I always talk about the what if's with Rose and Wade. No matter what, it worked out great in the end for the Heat. With Beasley, Riley saw he was not the answer and formulated the plan to clear enough cap space for the big 3, the rest is history.

CaneRock

I think Bethel thought she was a man lol..

Posted by: UMike | July 16, 2014 at 01:18 PM

That's the only reason I'll give Him for hitting Battle...but if He knew otherwise (which I think He did), He should've walked away from that one.

UMike

CR.. I agree... just saying it wasnt as malicious as I once thought. Seems like a quick reaction to being him and you can tell he immediately walked away.

UMike

I mean your playing ball and someone bigger than you is fighting for a rebound and then pops you.. not sure "wait thats a woman" is the first thing to pop in your head lol

Recall, it was LeBron who often implored Spoelstra to utilize Jones more often. And it often was Spoelstra who opted for others.

Lurker

Jusy watched the video. Still a punk bitch move by Bethel. He absolutely knew it was a girl because he was all over her on the layup. Yes, she turned around after his foul on the layup and flailed at him, bad on her, but then he very deliberately pops her. Sorry, it's totally unacceptable. It certainly isn't self defense.

Notice how every player on that court goes after HIM?

This video does not excuse or change anything. He deliberately hit a woman over nothing.

Anybody that justifies this behavior should not be around women, because you've either hit a woman, or would under certain circumstances. Unless it's self defense from death or serious injury - YOU DO NOT HIT A WOMAN. EVER.

CaneRock

True. But still, RW would've still been on His rookie contract, He didn't sign His 2nd contract till' 2012.

Ohio_Cane

Lurker is secretly in love with Amber Battle

UMike

haha Ohio.. Lurker.. I was now justifying it.. just when I first read about it it seemed like he just whooped some woman lol

UMike

I was NOT justifying it****

Lurker

He did whoop her though. There's no distinction.

Yes you're right I love her, but that love pales in comparison to your mancrush of Lebron wearing vomit yellow.

Ohio_Cane

At least my crush would've whooped Bethel's azz and not sat down in the corner. LOL

roachcane77

Not a classy move by Bethel, but I do NOT believe, "in the heat and context of this sporting incident." that this deserves a felony assault charge.

He should have to attend mandatory counseling, and perhaps community service at an abused women's clinic at LEAST.

I do NOT want anyone with this history and attitude representing the U, that's for sure.
