Gray skies opened up for the second consecutive day and once again postponed the start of day 2 of the University of Miami's Fall training camp, this time for over an hour. As you can imagine, the players grew restless as they waited for the gray clouds to clear so they could take the field and get in some quality work on Greentree Field.
Speaking of gray (or is it grey?), day 2 of Canes camp saw the emergence of the freshman player that some have already anointed the next "Great One" at Miami, RB/ATH Trayone Gray. Gray struggled and had to work hard just to get qualified at UM and was finally cleared for practice on Tuesday.
Gray didn't waste any time once on the field as he showed flashes of why many believe that he will be an impact player this year along with running mate Joseph Yearby in the Hurricanes backfield behind possible Heisman Trophy candidate Duke Johnson and hard running Sophomore Gus Edwards.
Gray, who measures 6'2" and weighed in at 222 pounds, is big and fast. On one play that showed what he is capable of, he took a simple screen pass from QB Jake Heaps and rambled past the UM defense for what would have been a touchdown during 11 on 11 drills.
Offensive coordinator James Coley suddenly has a backfield crowded with talent which is always a nice problem to have. With Duke getting a majority of the touches this season it may be tough to keep all of the running backs happy and well fed. It will be up to Coach Coley to figure out how best to do that.
As for another shade of gray (or is it grey?), former QB Gray Crow showed that he is fitting in at his new H-back position, catching the ball nicely from all of four of the Hurricane QBs.
Crow, a hard worker and long-time Canespace fan favorite, will hope to get some quality playing time at his new position this season.
We wish our man Gray Crow, newcomer Trayone Gray, anybody else named Gray that we may have left out and all the UM players, a healthy and productive training camp and a successful 2014 season.
#Go Canes!

The conferences will fall all over themselves to lower admissions criteria, pay the players the most money, build luxury housing for players, buy an insurance policy for everyone, etc.
Question: Will the NCAA still enforce their graduation rate and other academic standards for players to remain eligible?

Yes but there is always a little possibility that a little "accident" could be arranged that could change this VERY quickly. U should tread lightly my friend, very lightly. I would hate to have to throw U under da bus only to see U get run over and then back up and do it again just to be sure?

I don't see the autonomy measures as the end of CFB as we know it. With the revenue sharing & TV money the schools in the Power 5 conferences get, those schools can afford to cover the gaps with those cost-of-attendance stipends. Remember, these kids on full rides don't get money in the Summer...even Feliciano said that He could use an extra $2500.00 in the Summer to cover His expenses.
Posted by: CaneRock | August 07, 2014 at 03:12 PM
I could have used $2500 during the summers of my college years too!
Posted by: NavyCane4Life | August 07, 2014 at 03:21 PM
And as far as admission standards go, I don't see them lowering that either. Heck, I think every school has higher standards than the NCAA's.

WWIN...if nobody was on that Cleveland team besides Lebron, and He played with washed up has beens in Miami, then why did He win in Miami?
Posted by: CaneRock | August 07, 2014 at 03:59 PM
But WWIN, I kinda agree with you though...if Pat would've had a better draft in 08, we would've been in better shape today. We took Beasley over Westbrook & Love in the 1st Round...and we took Chalmers over DeAndre Jordan in the 2nd Rd. Imagine if we had Love, Miami would've had Cleveland by the jewels right now.

The autonomy has no effect on eligibility rules. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solomon/24651709/ncaa-adopts-new-division-i-model-giving-power-5-autonomy
Changing eligibility rules will be very difficult, there isn't much will out there to lower the standards. The real issue is making sure the sham courses some of these players take are investigated. And I have no idea what they're going to do with that.

From CIS:
Ice Harris stuff
-Locally, he's taking over Barrow's schools: Homestead, Killian, Westminster Christian School, South Dade, Booker T. Washington, and Edison among others
-Barrow also had Jacksonville and Atlanta but Golden said Harris' north FL and out of state assignments are TBD
-Harris will likely take over the recruitments of: Jaquan Johnson, Tim Irvin, Devonaire Clarington, and Mark Walton
-Harris will likely assist in the recruitments of: Jordan Scarlett, Dexter Williams, and Jordan Cronkrite

Expansion of the Big 5 seems inevitable. ACC should try to grab Cincinnati or UConn or both.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | August 07, 2014 at 04:46 PM
Big 10 should add SMU and if they can increase their foothold in more populated areas. UCF, USF would be nice targets.

Like I've said, the nba wanted Lebron to win some ships just like they want what's going on with him now to happen! First ship he won they were not even picked to win it against the Thunder, second ship was luck and took a miracle comeback that all heat fans left the arena cuz they knew it was ova!

The National Guard said in a statement posted on its web site it spent $32 million on its NASCAR sponsorship and $12 million on its IndyCar sponsorship this year, and noted that ''sports sponsorships have played an important role in helping the guard build strong brand awareness.''
Military funding has come under increased scrutiny in Congress as Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo, has called the sponsorship ''wasting a bunch of money on a very expensive sports sponsorship.''
I loved #3, and love Jr, but she is so right; the NG/military budget/govt has no business spending a dime on racing.....$44 mil last year? how much over time? All that $ could go to our vets needing medical attention and shelter...I 'm just saying.....
I got on the bus last night but guess there was no room for VA Country Azz Cane. I'll just stick to my 12-0 dream for my guys this year and for us to win 6 of last 8 SBs crusing along in that Raider color F-150 looking to Tatumize all in my path...Apocalypse Now football is probably more my style anyway!!!!
