Dude on a Pale Horse

No offense to anyone, but some of you guys think you can pick a QB like its an EA Sports game. A coach is obligated to his team to start the BEST QB whether its a freshman or journyman senior. You don't start a freshman with some idea that it will prepare him for next year. Kayaa is preparing for every day from now until he graduates whether he starts or not, when he is the best option to play, that is when he will start. If Kayaa wins over Heaps, so be it, if not, he'll get better by virtue of simply practicing his @ss off every day until next year. Even if he redshirts, I imagine he will travel with the team to an important road game or two. Kayaa and Heaps are battling for a position, may the best man win like at every other spot on the team.

Per Manny Navarro, Rayshawn Jenkins' surgery was a success and he'll be able to leave the hospital tomorrow.

Sure, Gore has the most carries (2,187), rushing yards (9,967), rushing touchdowns (60) and 1,000-yard rushing seasons (7) in team history. But can you even fathom the 49ers reaching the NFC title game in three consecutive seasons without the hard-charging running style of number 21? Not possible. Even with a reloaded receiving corps, Gore - a five-time Pro Bowler - figures to spearhead a large chunk of San Francisco’s offensive attack heading into 2014.

“Frank loves the game of football, and he loves being a part of a team; loves overcoming,” offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. “It’s just been the story of his career, so why would it be any different now? He’s got a heart. You can’t measure how big his heart is. What does that mean? Well, what it means is every play he plays all out and with a great will.”

RCCF...the original Canespace 12% bus had just 24 seats and they were all filled up. That was of course until yesterday when Hassan and Keoki showed up with STRONG arguements as to why they should be on the bus:

Hassan: active duty military intelligence officer stationed overseas in active combat areas. Also an original Canespacer from the very beginning and strong contributor back in the day. Has been to UM games with him and also State HS champioship games in Orlando. Does not get to blog much and hates to be left out of blog lists and activities. Self proclaimed 12%er.

Keoki: Designated rum master and originator of the infamous Keoki Rum Punch that has been known to take the paint off of cars, put people on their butts and win games at Sun Life all by itself. Original Spacer and BIG time donor to the Canespace blog. Verified 12%er.

I am sure there are a few I left off also. So I took the bus into the shop today and they are gonna add a back bench seat with cutom orange and green upholstery that can hold 4 additional passengers.

If you allow Hassan and Keoki to ride then that still leaves 2 open seats on the back bench seat. U make the call!

AA: Miami does have a hole at quarterback, a hole I have pointed out repeatedly (and much to the chagrin of Miami fans). But I don't mean to sound like a broken record here. Talented skill players have this way of making their quarterback look good. Driskel has struggled, in part, because he has had no help. Miami will provide its starter with a plethora of help, from potential 1,000-yard receiver Stacy Coley, to deep threat Phillip Dorsett to tight end Clive Walford. Just to name three. Aside from Johnson, Miami is deep and talented at running back, too, and its offensive line has been solid. I am not going to win any arguments between the Miami D vs the Florida D. Gators have the edge there going away. But a talented (and high-scoring) offense can easily cover up for an average D. Miami has one of the tougher schedules in the ACC with difficult crossover games, just like the Gators. In the Canes' case, it's Florida State and Louisville. They've also got a tough nonconference game at Nebraska. When I look at the schedule, I think Miami has 10 winnable games. Doesn't mean they are going to win all of them, but it means they have a better shot at getting there than Florida.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Chris Freet has been named Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations and Strategic Communications at the University of Arkansas it was announced by Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long on Tuesday.

Freet will join the athletic department’s senior leadership team and oversee the department’s external areas including marketing, licensing, media relations, public relations, ticket operations and the Razorback Sports Network. He will also be the department’s liaison with the new SEC Network, leading the program’s strategic engagement with the new television channel and digital platform.

Freet joins Razorback Athletics after spending the past four years at the University of Miami where most recently he served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Communications, Marketing and Ticket Sales.

“I am excited to have Chris join us and lead our external team, especially at this important time of year,” Long said. “Chris is bright, intelligent and someone who works extremely well with people. He is experienced in implementing strategies to reach our fans and I am eager to see his impact on our program.”

At Miami, Freet was a member of the department’s executive staff where he oversaw the communications, marketing and ticket sales offices, the official website HurricaneSports.com, digital and social media platforms and all television and radio opportunities, as well as licensing and trademarks (Fermata) and the program’s relationships with Learfield Sports and IMG College. He also had direct sport oversight of the men’s tennis and women’s volleyball programs and served as the department’s liaison with university communications.

“I am beyond fortunate to make this transition during such a pivotal and exciting time for the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Southeastern Conference and intercollegiate athletics as a whole,” Freet said. “My family and I have grown and learned an incredible amount during the last four years and we cannot thank the people of Miami enough. But, the time is right to join Jeff Long’s team and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds.”

Several of Miami's running backs had impressive showing on Monday, led by freshman Joseph Yearby. The former Miami Central standout rushed for a team-high 71 yards, including a game-best 33-yard run. Duke Johnson, Gus Edwards and Trayone Gray also had several impressive runs.

Fifteen different Canes caught a pass on Monday, with freshman Braxton Berrios leading the way with five catches for 48 yards. Seven Hurricanes has multiple catches and senior tight end Raphael Akpejiori recorded his first catch in a scrimmage.

Need one of those extra long business cards to get title on there.

C'mon Soup. Your pick can't be whoever starts at QB, you gotta pick one and man up on it!!

WHOA! WHOA! I am not asking for charity here...I can indeed man up and tell you that as a 12%er my LOF is our QB because whomever it is is gonna ball out! Who is our QB? I do not know, so if mannning up means waiting until a starting QB is named then I will do that, otherwise put me down for whoever gets the start!!

Ive got many of the same arguments as Hassan. Although I am not currently deployed at the time. I also sure as hell don't claim to be intelligent. Just a ground pounder that lives off his intelligence to make decisions. Been around for a minute. If I don't get a seat I am taking my soon to be company in the 82nd to high jack the bus when it comes to Atlanta for the GT game.

From the Sentinel. 1st paragraph on a new article.

"After missing Miami's second scrimmage of fall camp, Hurricanes quarterback Jake Heaps told ESPN.com he was held out of Monday night's scrimmage as a precautionary message."

Precautionary MESSAGE? what was the message? Your not the starter?

Cane Since 1982

Also since I brought up the GT game. Im going to start asking now. Who is going to make the road trip for it? Only game Ill get to unless I swing a 3 day pass for the FSU game.

USAFCane

I'm also active military but should not have a seat on the bus. Unfortunately I am not ready to join the 12%. Hope I'm wrong and pleased to finally see some former Canes saying we look more like Canes now.

From the ESPN ACC Blog

Jake not the starter Heaps speaking

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Jake Heaps wants to assure everybody his arm is just fine.

It may not have seemed that way Monday night, when word started to spread that he missed the evening scrimmage to rest his sore right arm. Given how much importance coach Al Golden has placed on quarterback performance in the preseason scrimmages, doubts about Heaps started to grow all around the Twitter-sphere to the repeated tune of hmmmmmmm ....

Such is life in the middle of a quarterback competition. One bit of news gets magnified tenfold until another bit of news comes along to tamp it down. So here it is, completely tamped down from Heaps himself:

"Everything is fine," Heaps told ESPN.com Tuesday in a phone interview. "I'm feeling good about everything, and just excited to get to practice Wednesday."

Heaps says he was held out of the scrimmage for precautionary reasons. While he sat on the sideline, true freshman Brad Kaaya threw two touchdown passes to grab a few headlines. But the competition to start at Louisville on Sept. 1 remains open between the two.

"They haven't given us a timetable on a decision," Heaps said. "They've kept everything pretty close to the vest, which I think is good because it just allows us to focus on every day and not worry about where we stand in certain points in time. It's about going out there each and every day and trying to take advantage of one practice and one rep at a time. That's all I'm concerned about, just trying to string a bunch of good days together and see where it falls. We're approaching Louisville here quickly, so I would imagine something would come in the near future, but I'm not concerned about that. I'm just focused on each practice that comes up."

Heaps says he has made the most of his two months on campus, since arriving as a transfer student from Kansas. Though there are no guarantees, he remains hopeful he will win the starting job.

"Obviously I'd be extremely disappointed if I didn't, but it's a long season and anything can happen so you have to have that mentality," he said. "At the end of the day, I don't regret anything. I've gone out and done everything that I could and laid it all on the line. At the end of the day, I have to look in the mirror and know if I gave it my all and I know that I have. I feel good about that. I'm just excited to continue practicing and see how everything ends up unfolding. I'll definitely be excited if I'm the guy."

Great point The Dude, I feel like if Kaaya is better then he should start but I believe that Golden will choose Heaps and it's great that he is here. We have more weapons than BYU and Kansas. He will fare well

YES to all of the above. UMike will have about 5-7 with him and Sarasota about 7-10.

Plus IF you hang with Sarasota's crew then U will be hanging with one of the UM players parents and family. I will not say which one due to privacy issues but trust me he is a starter.

Cane Since 1982

Not sure if I can get anyone to go with me but my instructor in the course I am in is a 2005 UM alumni. Id like to think he will go to the game with me. Although he upset me when I went to talk to him about Barrow leaving and Harris being picked up as a coach and he snapped back at me with "I don't follow it that closely" like he was irritated about me talking about the Canes to much.

I wanted to crush him and yell at him about how I would have given my left nut to go to UM and he has the balls to say I don't follow it that closely after getting a free ride there from an ROTC scholarship. But hes my instructor so I had to let it go. And hes a tanker. I never trusted someone that doesn't have the balls to walk on the ground.
