So apparently, the quarterback quandary has finally, mercifully, been solved.
True freshman Brad Kaaya has been named the starting QB of your Miami Hurricanes for the 2014 season. Now that is big news indeed!
Today University of Miami head coach Al Golden officially named the player affectionately known as "Trinidad Brad" the starting QB for the 2014 season.
And it couldn't have happened soon enough for UM fans who desperately wanted an answer.
“I think the biggest thing was we saw how much he was devoted to it, how many sacrifices he made, how well he learned and how it translated to the field,” Golden said. “A guy can be good in the film room or out of the book, and then it doesn’t translate. It has translated here.”
After watching Kaaya battle with senior Jake Heaps, redshirt freshman Kevin Olsen and freshman Malik Rosier over the previous three weeks, Golden decided on a starting quarterback Sunday morning and informed the players of his decision prior to practice.
“It was a tight battle,” Golden said. “It was a battle that none of us could have foresaw at the end of June or July or the beginning of camp. I’m excited about that position. In Ryan’s absence, those two had a great battle. I think Kevin Olsen really improved, so I am excited about him. Right now, Brad nudged out Jake and he’s our quarterback.”
Jake Heaps, the senior transfer who was in strong contention to play for Miami this season, will play a back up roll to Kaaya. Apparently Trinidad blew the UM coaches away with his talent, work ethic and dedication to learning the system.
So, QB Brad Kaaya is now King of your Miami Hurricanes.
How do U, as Miami fans, feel about that?

3. Virginia Tech has nine true freshmen on its two-deep depth chart for its season opener against William & Mary. WR Isaiah Ford is listed as a starter, and TB Marshawn Williams is listed as a co-starter for an offense looking for playmakers. Ford had three TD receptions, each covering at least 26 yards, in the Hokies' final preseason scrimmage on Friday

Hmm... interesting list by Joe Zagacki. I think Hester and Jackson will contribute some also.

Person familiar with QB race: "It was like Brad decided to make the decision himself. He didn't win the job. He took it.

Impressed with Golden and his decision making. Heaps seemed to many like the safe choice, but he truly let the competition take its course, and then declared the winner the starter, even if it was close. This is a good sign for Golden and his decision making.

I hope everyone on the team takes a good hard look at the differences in effort between Brad Kaaya and Kevin Olsen.

Can we say definitively that WWiN didn't have something to do w/ Kaaya being the starter? I don't think so. So because there's no disproving it, we may as well accept it as fact that Kaaya's meeting with WW launched his career at The U. Thanks WW!

Now Corn Elder... there's one I think I may have to admit to being wrong on. I thought he'd've made a fine RB and we needed the talent there last year. I guess I still stand by that statement, but after watching the practices, that kid has the best CB hips on the team. He could be special there, although he's usually the one getting scored on in the plays of the day.

Winemakers in California's storied Napa Valley woke up to thousands of broken bottles and barrels as a result of Sunday's earthquake.
"It's devastating. I've never seen anything like this," said Tom Montgomery, a winemaker for B.R. Cohn Winery in Glen Ellen, California.
The epicenter of the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Northern California, the strongest in the area in 25 years, was just six miles southwest of Napa, California, the center of California's winemaking region.
B.R. Cohn lost "as much as 50 percent" of its wine, Montgomery said. The winery focuses on high-end, single estate wines that retail between $40 and $100 a bottle.
At Dahl Vineyards in Yountville, California, a rack full of wine barrels was teetering and in danger of coming down. One barrel containing $16,000 worth of pinot noir fell and was lost as a result of the quake. The owners were trying to save the rest, removing the barrels with a forklift.

Kaaya leaves Cali, named starting QB at the U, earthquake happens in Cali. Just a coincidence? I think not!

Think this staff has proven again and again they have and are implementing a long term plan that unfortunately was delayed at the beginning.
Starting Kaaya, keeping Corn at DB and what's happening in recruiting act as examples of what and why they are doing what they do.
Now....just beat Louisville.
Posted by: Go Canes | August 24, 2014 at 08:39 PM
Golden still loves starting only seniors? or nah?
Posted by: 30CINCO | August 24, 2014 at 08:42 PM
WWIN...CaneRock says he was FIRST on everything so there is no way to really know. I have my doubts, but who knows?

"Starting Kaaya, keeping Corn at DB and what's happening in recruiting act as examples of what and why they are doing what they do."
But Brandon Washington at LT though...Curtis Porter as a DT/CB hybrid though...
