The countdown to the 2014 football season is well underway as the University of Miami football team will officially begin Fall practice on Tuesday August 5 in Coral Gables. UM head coach Al Golden will head into his fourth season at the helm of a team that on paper appears improved but also has some serious questions about who the starting quarteback is going to be.
To help kick off the festivities of another exciting college footbal season, the Hurricanes will host their fans on campus with the annual BankUnited CanesFest on August 23 from 4-7 p.m.
For the first time in history, the event will be held at the recently opened Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence and the newly upgraded Greentree Practice Fields. The event is free and open to the public.
2014 BankUnited CanesFest Events
- Interactive games for kids, including a baseball radar gun, a timed 40-yard dash competition, soccer, volleyball and rowing stations spread across the athletics facilities, as well as inflatables.
- Guided tours of the new athletics facilities, including the new football locker room.
- An autograph session featuring student-athletes and coaches.
- A photo booth for fans of all ages, and photo opportunities with Sebastian the Ibis, the Miami Maniac, as well as a “Dress Like a Cane” station where fans can try on the football uniforms new for the 2014 season.
- The one-of-a-kind opportunity to run through the smoke out of the Miami helmet, a tradition unlike any other. Feel what it’s like to be a Hurricane on game day!
- An interactive picnic area set up on the Schwartz Center patio including food trucks, official Miami Hurricanes merchandise for sale, ticket sales tables and Hurricane Club representatives.
- The UM Sports Hall of Fame, adjacent to the Hecht Athletic Center on San Amaro Drive, will be open for all visitors.
Miami opens the 2014 season Sept. 1 against new ACC member Louisville at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
You can secure your seats to Miami’s home games vs. the defending National Champions Florida State and the North Carolina Tar Heels (Homecoming) today with a Two-Game Mini-Plan. Plans start at just $108 and include the same seat to both games plus a complimentary hat ($30 value).

T-Sullivan, I've never had a spat with u. So I'm going to let that ride. Please don't insult me again.
All I did was present a blog posting that the author claimed was been repeated on other website. There are many of u on this blog that are very good at gathering information. I just expect one of those to dig deeper and see if there is any merit to the claim. It is does not warrant any insult. No one respects barrow more than me as we were friends back @ um. He was in my classes. We hung out together @ the student union building many times & he was a class act back then as he still is now.

Nigerian...I know that U probably did not mean any harm but repeating negative rumors found at any of the completely out-of-control, unmanaged and ridiculous media sites (MH, SS, BP) is NEVER a smart thing to do. Even IF it is possible that it could have some merit it is just NOT a wise thing to do. Blog on!

Valentine still NOT qualified at LSU:
LSU head coach Les Miles says two players have yet to report to LSU for fall camp, but for two very different reasons. Freshman defensive tackle Travonte Valentine is being held up on his arrival to Baton Rouge from his Miami home due to a communication hold-up with his certification from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Safety Jalen Mills is still serving a suspension following an arrest in May.
“Communication has been regular, us and the high school,” Miles said (via The Times-Picayune). “The reality is the high school and the Clearinghouse have to communicate. I think they’re doing that, I think they’re trying. Sometimes there’s easy answers and sometimes not. Hopefully this will be an easy answer.”
Miles is optimistic the resolution with the NCAA Clearinghouse will be settled. Valentine had previously been committed to Maimi but opted to name LSU his new favorite at a time when it was rumored Miami head coach Al Golden would be a potential replacement for Bill O’Brien at Penn State. Golden ultimately stayed put in Miami, but Valentine stuck with his decision to stay away from Miami and committed to LSU.

TS The opener vs Louisville will set the tone. we will need a very solid running game to come out on top. If we win the first game... 11-3 is realistic and would be an excellent season.
Go Canes!!!

With practice around the corner any word on how Raphael Kirby is coming along? We really need some depth at lb he came in all world was a spring legend and true to recent pattern has just seemed to evaporate. Can we count n the young fella or what? Btw I would really not count Malik rosier out. Think about the qbs coley has coached... Rosier fits that athletic mold far more than Kayaa. Now brad is supposed to be great and I hope he is but Rosier ain't one to sleep on!

Seantrel has a chance to be really special in the pros. I call it like I see it. He was the most talented offensive lineman I have seen play live in college. I wish him the best.

BWC1,
SH77 was more talented than Eric Winston? How about Bryant McKinnie? Not calling you out, I just disagree and wanted to hear you elaborate.
