The countdown to the 2014 football season is well underway as the University of Miami football team will officially begin Fall practice on Tuesday August 5 in Coral Gables. UM head coach Al Golden will head into his fourth season at the helm of a team that on paper appears improved but also has some serious questions about who the starting quarteback is going to be.
To help kick off the festivities of another exciting college footbal season, the Hurricanes will host their fans on campus with the annual BankUnited CanesFest on August 23 from 4-7 p.m.
For the first time in history, the event will be held at the recently opened Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence and the newly upgraded Greentree Practice Fields. The event is free and open to the public.
2014 BankUnited CanesFest Events
- Interactive games for kids, including a baseball radar gun, a timed 40-yard dash competition, soccer, volleyball and rowing stations spread across the athletics facilities, as well as inflatables.
- Guided tours of the new athletics facilities, including the new football locker room.
- An autograph session featuring student-athletes and coaches.
- A photo booth for fans of all ages, and photo opportunities with Sebastian the Ibis, the Miami Maniac, as well as a “Dress Like a Cane” station where fans can try on the football uniforms new for the 2014 season.
- The one-of-a-kind opportunity to run through the smoke out of the Miami helmet, a tradition unlike any other. Feel what it’s like to be a Hurricane on game day!
- An interactive picnic area set up on the Schwartz Center patio including food trucks, official Miami Hurricanes merchandise for sale, ticket sales tables and Hurricane Club representatives.
- The UM Sports Hall of Fame, adjacent to the Hecht Athletic Center on San Amaro Drive, will be open for all visitors.
Miami opens the 2014 season Sept. 1 against new ACC member Louisville at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
You can secure your seats to Miami’s home games vs. the defending National Champions Florida State and the North Carolina Tar Heels (Homecoming) today with a Two-Game Mini-Plan. Plans start at just $108 and include the same seat to both games plus a complimentary hat ($30 value).

Seantrel is good but Most talented I have seen....not by a long shot, shot sure what FB you have been watching.
Maybe I am lost but why do we talk about Crow so much, it has been a running joke on here for a long time that I am not in on I guess. It is kind of disrespectful to be honest because no one really thinks he is a great FB player. He probably is a great kid but to talk about him like he is Peyton Manning when everyone knows he is not a big time player is kind of stupid.
On the serious football note getting Choc to play this year could win a game or two for us, the kid is that talented. He could easily be a return man and a 4th WR that there is NO way another team has a 4th coverman anywhere near good enough to cover Choc, that kid is a DADE COUNTY all star.

The eve of Training Camp and hope is anew. Not a troll to be found on Canespace, nor any reports of players down with the flu. Four QB's will battle for the crown jewel, let's hope that one, preferably two, show us they can be the offense's fuel. Defenders are bigger, defenders are quick, let's hope a few copy Perryman and learn how to deliver a lick. We've had coaching changes, but worry not at all, because Duke Johnson is primed to prove he's Heisman bound this fall.

Hassan,
SOUP really loves him some Crow. Really. I'm just helping SOUP with the fun puns. Besides, I love me so Crow also. I love all my boys in orange and green. There is no disrespect when I say: When the going gets tough, the tough get Crowing!

Man I must be drunk because after reading j.w.'s post for the third time I now realize it rhymes.

Soup, stop with this gray crow stuff. He should be happy to have a scholarship at QB for miami and that be about it.
One more day til fall camp
And I told you all Seantrel would beast in the pros ! JPP is one of the best DEs in football and Trel had him
Posted by: LQ | August 04, 2014 at 04:20 AM
Seantrel obviously has the great size and athletic ability. He is a more impressive athlete with better measurables than any Canes lineman I have seen. And when Seantrel was on his game, he was very very dominant. He could dominate a matchup in a way I have not seen. Seantrel had his problems and demons while he was here but if (and I know its a big if) he can put that behind him and become consistent, the sky is the limit in the NFL.

I finally got to set foot on the UM campus Saturday for the first time in my life!! It was beautiful!
So I'm walking on campus and it was totally empty, seen maybe 5 people. I started walking towards the new Schwartz building and taking pics and here comes Brad Kaaya and Standish Dobard walking out the doors, I felt like Go Canes lol! So we took a pic and had a nice lil convo walking back to our cars, they were parked right behind me. After the talk with Kaaya, I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he starts now! Pretty cool first time experience to UM for me!

Tito...
With 3 running backs currently sitting in the Miami Hurricanes 2015 recruiting class, 2015 Westminster (Fla.) running back Jordan Cronkrite wouldn’t label himself as a solid commit.
“I gotta meet with the coaches to talk about some things, talk about the future and what’s going to happen.”
The 5’11 196 pound running back has been in contact with other schools including South Carolina, West Virginia and Florida.
Cronkrite is looking forward to speaking with the coaches and is looking for his questions regarding the other running backs in the class to be answered.
“Just to see what they’re going to do with running back situation and just see what happens from there.”
The Westminster product has no visits set up until during the season where he will be able to catch a couple Hurricane games.
Cronkrite, like many, was surprised with the recent news of Hurlie Browns switch to Linebackers coach and Ice Harris move as the new Running Backs coach. Cronkrite is familiar with Harris’ reputation at the high school level.
“I met him when I went to the school one time, he clearly knows what he’s talking about and he knows how to win. I don’t know much about him besides what he did at Booker T.”
*Will not be attending U Day due to a school function.

Alabama accused of encouraging recruit to transfer to high school that would “take care of him”
Aug 9th, 2012 @ 10:01 am › Michael Carvell
One of Alabama’s top football recruits was allegedly encouraged by an Alabama assistant coach to transfer high schools to help with his academics, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
Defensive tackle Darius Paige transferred from Washington High School in Pensacola, Fla., to Alabama’s Foley High School this week. Washington assistant George Schellang charged that Paige was encouraged to transfer by Alabama assistant Jeremy Pruitt.
“Darius came in the office one day during the summer after (former head) coach (Mike) Smith left and sat down and told me coach Pruitt, who is the Alabama coach who was recruiting him, wanted him to go to Foley High School,” Schellang said. “Basically, he said (Foley High) could take care of him academically.
“My reaction was shock and dismay that a Division I coach would tell a high school athlete that he needed to transfer, that they had people there to help.”
In a Thursday story, Washington’s coaches stood by the allegations to the Pensacola News-Journal.
“When I talked to (Pruitt), he told me that he knew the coach at Foley (Todd Watson) really well and that he could take care of (Paige) academically,” Schellang said.

Off the top of my head: Jaquan Johnson, Tim Irvin, Rashad Fenton, Carlton Davis, CeCe Jefferson, ANY great DT (at least 1, 2 would be great), and hold on to the other commits.

Although I am completely unsurprised that a top SEC program would do such a thing, this is just another anecdote that shows the consequences of having no minor league football. You don't hear about this kind of garbage in college baseball recruiting, because a kid who can't cut it in school can just go straight to the pros.

Is anyone here familiar with the hiring process and background checks? I got my fingerprints taken Friday, an the lady said 3 things came up, but with "no disposition", and she was waiting to get them. What is that? Is that like the judges final order or something? All 3 things were just traffic violations, but wondering what that meant if anyone knew.
Posted by: UMike | August 04, 2014 at 09:32 AM
The Miami Hurricanes are one of those teams where, if they simply take care of business in their backyard, they will have a very highly ranked recruiting class. The program's four highest-ranked commitments in the class of 2016 are from the Broward/Dade area, the main reason they are No. 1 in 2016.
The Hurricanes have not had a top five recruiting class since the class of 2008. Last year's 2014 class spent much of the summer and fall in the top five but ended up No. 12 after Signing Day.
Miami hasn't threatened the top five in the class of 2015, though there is still a long way to go.
Perhaps 2016 will be the year the Canes net a top-five class.

UMike:
No disposition: "The problem either was not resolved - still in the process or was dropped. Or the criminal history is not up to date - the agency has not updated the outcome to the federal government or state depending on what scope your background on i.e. local or nationwide."
Normally that would mean that the case is still open. It could also be a clerical error meaning that no one put the final resolution into the data bank. It is very important that you get in touch with the clerk's office for the county or town in which these crimes occurred to determine whether or not the case it still open. You want to make sure that there are no warrants outstanding based on your failure to appear in court.
I would contact the courts by phone, or in person, to get the information as soon as possible. Good luck.
Basically, the court has to forward them info and you're fine, it seems.
(I researched this. None was my personal info)
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | August 04, 2014 at 09:56 AM
Ohio.. I did some research.. and I think the results didnt show the disposition. I do know they are all closed. They HR lady said she will get the info, so I am not sure what I should do besides wait. They were just traffic stuff.
Posted by: UMike | August 04, 2014 at 10:02 AM
I even searched via the county clerk and the only thing that came up was a ticket from 07, way after the stuff she is looking for. Leave it up to the Broward County Court system to delay my employment lol

The Hurricanes coaching staff will have unlimited access to one of its top recruits this fall.
The school announced on Friday that tight end Bowman Archibald of Pasco High signed a grant-in-aid agreement with Miami.
Though the financial aid agreements are non-binding for prospects, they do mean schools who offer them have to provide that prospect a scholarship and that coaches can have unlimited contact with the prospect through the recruiting process.
It also means schools can speak about the recruit.
Archibald is considered one of the top tight end prospects in the country. He is rated the fifth best tight end in the nation by ESPN and is ranked No. 189 on the ESPN 300. Both Rivals and 247 Sports have him ranked the 17th best tight end in the Class of 2015.
Archibald, who verbally committed to Miami after considering offers from Florida State, Florida, Alabama and Auburn, had two touchdown receptions last season and had 22 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries at defensive end.

FYI as of August 1st, 2014 our Miami Hurricanes have sold 29,442 Season Tickets last year on August 26,943 Season Tickets Sold. So Much for the Season Tickets sales being way off for this year because we aren't playing the Crocs hahaha. Also our Miami Hurricanes have sold 2,800 2 game packs aka the FSU/UNC game pack as of August 1, 2014. Of course this doesn't include students which take up 10,000 seats and away teams fans who are alloted 10,000 seats. Let's kick some major league arse this season. Go Canes!
