Isadora's penalty negating a great throw by Kaaya to Duke to get us down to the 2 was a back breaker. Close game late and that happens. Next play? Sack back to the 50 with ZERO blocking on the right side.

That play sticks out more than any other.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | September 02, 2014 at 10:14 AM

The sack was on a play action....why run play action when the defense knows your going to throw the ball. Kaaya's play action is awful.....Way tooo slow! Why do we run play action then role out the QB?....And he roles out to his back side. Unbelievable coaching!!!!

TJL

renewed???? L ville renewed another butt whipping on us

AfriCane

LOL @ TJL! That's a good one.

Our favorite team is a "CaneWreck"!

VA Cane

Being a great coach on game day in game situations is trying. I did not see that from anybody last night; I think there's a lot of room to share the blame.

I think Louisville on D played well; they jammed the line and their DL won. Their LBs and corners filled holes but also ran to the ball. They got a lot of pressure on young Brad. He was hesitant, understand that. Threw a lot of balls that could have been picks. We got beat up front bad. Lot of walking around, feet shuffling, poor stances, foolish penalties, not thinking....but also a lot of passive non aggressive play up there. Duke and Co had few chances to do anything. If you cannot run, you cannot open things up. Those damn passes to the WRs kill me. Waste.

Defensively, we did better. We did get some pressure, we tackled better, but we still gave up some gashes inside and out, and the middle of the field is open. We lay back off the ball as DBs and we are off the ball in general.

Louisville was better prepared, executed the fundamentals well and were aggressive attacked. Their QB was average, but did have a short memory.
2 FGs hurt bad; fumble needs to be TD down there. ST TD was awful.

I am not saying we should have won, but had we executed fundamentals, went all out aggressive on them, not beat ourselves and thought some, we could have won.

We have work to do fellas; I'll be on the next plane to take over the reigns and get it straight!!!!!!LOL!!!!

AfriCane

Fire Al now & save the season.
He did it for me with the Penn state fiasco. And now he's just pushed me over the edge.
Al must go!

VA Cane

Too much big belly syndrome on that line; nobody picks their feet up. They shuffle and trot. I died at that; the line was awful all night. no run or pass block...lot of looking around walking around. That is unacceptable. Louisville looked very quick fast athletic aggressive. Their backs busted peoples ass. They are not a bad team they come right at you. Petrino may have screwed up back then, but the man is a good coach, has good fundamentals prepares his kids right, drives their asses and compliments them when they do well. They came ready and played hard; not perfect not #1 in the country, but a good solid aggressive team that will get better with him and staff.

CaneRock

It was the D'Onofrio's fault...we should've scooped & scored on those 2 fumbles. But we're so used to NOT doing it, that the defensive players didn't know what the drill was when a live ball is on ground. It was as if, they looked at each other, and said..."Look, theirs a ball on the ground, what do we do"...I'm surprised we didn't hand it back to the QB LMAO!

CaneRock

And no disrespect to Ice, but we should've brought back Soldy as our RB coach...

RCCF

Ice has nothing to do with it....People don't let your anger spill into areas where we are good... D'No is THE Problem..

RCCF

The I coach who needs to be let go at seasons end is Art, the Oline has underachieved since his return to the U

Sarasota 'cane

VA Cane the way the UL LB's ran to meet Duke almost every time he tried to attack the edge reminded me of the UM teams of the past. Our game plan was soooooooo predictable and soooooooo vanilla.

Bobby P. was licking his chops all week leading up to last night. Hell the Duke coaches lick their chops when they know they will be playing this "CaneWreck".

UM needs to decide if they want to compete at the highest level, or if they want to take the money and run like the GT's of the world. Why would anyone co-sign this mess with ticket, clothing, and memorabilia purchases?

It's a CaneWreck, and I understand...

VA Cane

My biggest concern is the deer syndrome. We looked scared hesitant passive unsure like we had never played the game in a hostile environment. I love playing on the road; we take and own players coaches and fans souls. We never say a word but are merciless. We were afraid last night so it appeared. Not many playmakers were visible. We have to regroup and get better fast.

RCCF

Soooooooooooo how long until the old players come back and get in the coaches faces? How Long Until the Old Regime Does Like the Old Regime Use To? Playmaker said "it was the responsibility of the Old Canes to come back and show the new Canes about this legacy and uphold it".....again not blaming the kids so when does someone come back and we hear of a fight between and OldSchool Cane and D'No? I mean it is far beyond time...

Im starting to think crazy azz Uncle Luke might be right about Shalala lol

Doesnt Golden have a contract for like the next 20 years or so? lol.. Um aint buying their way out of that haha

Every damm UM commercial Donna always throwin' up the U and don't have a F@@kin' clue what it means.

Since she is so involved with athlethics under her watch: Fired Coker, Fired Shannon, Golden?????

LQ

RCCF,

They have voiced their displeasure. I just saw it on twitter but davon johnson was asked about Coley and he said it isn't him it's somebody above him... Golden ? I'm not sure but the playcalling was horrid last night. And to D'No.. didn't lose us the game. But we should have blitzed more. We finally see what's it like to have good DTs. . Need Kirby to play better as well as grace. But that OLine needs work. Where was Kehoe ? Day off ??

Has Golden ever fired anyone.. ever?

I think if Golden would bring in a DC and OC that know what they are doing and kinda keep his hands off it would be great.

You are what your record says you are..."Alverage O'fer"! LMAO!

Itsa_Canes_Thing

The biggest reason we are always out coached is because Golden fills his staff with High School coaches and not established D1 level or NFL experienced coaches. When we did (Jedd Fisch) you saw the result. Our success is not for a lack of talent it is a lack of coaching.

I bet more than anything Golden thought he was going to Penn State after last season so he didn't put any thought into re-evaluating his staff. He was just going to leave everyone at the alter. Time for a change!

1mg of epi

Golden is not going anywhere... So long as he doesn't start buying recruits who are unable to graduate.
Miami Head Coach Responsibilities:
1) Do not embarrass the school (ie Shapiro)
2) Graduate players
3) Go to bowl games (more often than not)

This is what the admin wants, and so this is what we will get.

CaneRock

But straight up...would Butch Davis, have coached, and recruited better, under the proverbial "cloud"?

CaneRock

And I keep tellin' ya'll @$$, keep ya' other eye on UVA. Like I said awhile back, Mike London's on the hot seat...Mike London's the 2nd highest paid coach in the ACC...and Al seems more comfortable recruiting up there...IJS!

CaneRock

Aaaaaand, who did Al just hire...that's right, another VA guy. He damn sure didn't hire em' to lock down SF, I can tell ya' THAT!

RCCF

I like Al....he just needs to get rid of his Bff..

RCCF

1mg of epi

Butch probably would've recruited better and probably would've selected better coaching staff... But he's not coming back so....whatever

Dude on a Pale Horse

I think Go Canes would have to be the AD if Al is to get another HC job.

THE MAN

There were many things (too many to list) that were unreal last night. I think too many times these coaches try to make this game of football more complicated then it is. For example, they blizted a lot which means you do something misdirection or screen pass or pass out in the flat to slow that sh!t down. Throw down field every so often to keep them back, etc. Very easy basic stuff, but it seems like that is chinese to these coaches. Many times we had 3 rushers which means there were 8 in coverage and there were still guys running wide open! How is that possible? Just baffling all around. Those wr screen passes kill me too. So you are expecting to have a freshman QB take a snap turn his body completely to the side and deliver a strike all timing to even gain a few yards when instead he can take the snap and deliver a short throw to a receiver crossing, or a swing pass, or quick throw to a TE. To me those would be much easier to complete then that WR screen BS. Just my opinion.

pbcfrcane13

Everybody on here hated Butch Davis and wanted him fired till 1999. Not saying Al and this staff is going to turn it around I'm just saying . If we had canespace back then I bet it would sound just like this Butchs first 4-5 years.

Itsa_Canes_Thing

Butch would have hired better and one of the biggest differences is he would have COACHED better. Wasn't Sean Taylor or Ed Reed a 3* player. They were coached right and you saw what happened after that. Al is not a very good gameday coach. How many years has he been doing this and nothing has changed. Last night looked just like we did last year. It was terrible.

pbcfrcane13

Butch used to be called the worst game day coach ever. Man how we forget. What did Butch do in UNC with all that talent he recruited?

pbcfrcane13

Bring me Cutcliff from duke! Forget Butch. You can win at Duke and develop qb imagine what you can do here

UMike

when instead he can take the snap and deliver a short throw to a receiver crossing, or a swing pass, or quick throw to a TE. To me those would be much easier to complete then that WR screen BS. Just my opinion.

Posted by: THE MAN | September 02, 2014 at 11:52 AM

This is exactly what they did to use... cause their staff understood it would work lol

UGoCane

Sarasota cane:
Loud and clear...Wish what you would like to do, but Butch will never Coach at the U as long as Donna is President.
Loyalty is a trait that cannot be taught. You either have it or you don't. Davis has none.In Donna's book as a politician and leader, that is the first Commandment.

QB's are the engine that runs the team. If you have one that misfires, shuts off, or stumbles, you are not getting very far.
We do not have a QB.
Starting Brad was a necessity, not a preferred choice.
Jake was injured more than announced or he would have started. Ryan who knows? There is a QB cloud over the team!!.

The D played their hearts out and DP as we all saw on his face was in 1,000% .

Enough of the get rid of Golden..We do NOT have the money for a buy out, so they need to have a sit down with him, and get a short term, long term development plan to show how he will FIX these Coaching issues.
This has been one of the worst called games for an OC that I have seen.

If we need to make our disappointment known then force Al to change his approach into a more aggressive rather than passive team.

That can be done with immense pressure from the AD.
Will he do it?.
We do not know..But we can only hope that this team improves tremendously.

UMike

Is 4th and 4.. and you are down 11 and in field goal range. You have a true freshman QB and havent even been able to convert on 3rd down.... and instead of taking the points and cutting it to a 1 possession game.. they went for it. This aint freakin Madden lol

Go Canes

I'm sorry but I have to laugh at some of these posts.

So if Kaaya continues to get comfortable and improve and we go to Lincoln and win, what will some of you say then.

I've seen this blog go from we can never win with this staff, to we've improved so much we can't lose any games and back in three hours.

Last year the screams were about the 500 yards every week. Saw dj post Louisville is 91st in the country after week one. Still need to fire the D coordinator.

We get two turnovers in their redzone, someone says with a better D coordinator we would have run them in for a TD.

Everything is so knee jerk on here.

Kaaya will get better as he goes. We will open up the playbook.

Interested to see what happens if he continues to get comfortable and improve and we go to Lincoln and win. What will some of you say then?

Last night sucked. Our QB looked like the true freshman he is. Playcalling was too conservative. We all know that.

Sounds like everyone from Shalala to Ice Harris needs to be fired.

So since that's not going to happen I will watch our QB to see if he improves like I think he will and look forward to the Husker game.

pbcfrcane13

Can't agree more the most frustrating play of ghr night or one of them at least was not kicking the fg

UpNorthCane27

Heres the scary part people...

Next year we don't have Denzel Perryman!!!!

WDF are we going to do?

UMike

Go Canes.. I know u dont take offense to this stuff so it wont bother you.. but you are really a blind homer. I use to be like you, but years of this BS and turned me into a realist about my Canes. This staff, or at least a good amount of them, cannot cut it. You think were gonna go to Lincoln and beat Nebraska??? I wouldnt be surprised if we struggle against Arkansas State lol

Ohio_Cane

First down from the 2 (that got called back) isn't guaranteed 7 points, but U assume our kicker makes a 50 yard fg? LOL

Canesteeler

Same old shit. The U will not return to greatness with this joke of a coaching staff. Golden is in way over his head.

CaneRock

You know what I have to laugh at, some DUMASS! saying we're only going to lose 1 more game with a true freshman at QB. Maybe that DUMASS! isn't aware of how loud, cold, and possibly wet it will be in Blacksburg,Virginia. And then that same DUMASS!, had the nerve to say that UL's D, is the best D we're gonna see all year LMAO! MAN!, talk about some comic relief LMAO!

trianglecane

that fg would have been 50 yards, not a gimmie.

dj moonbat

Last night sucked. Our QB looked like the true freshman he is. Playcalling was too conservative. We all know that.

But you act like we have every reason in the world to expect the playcalling to improve. We don't.

j.w.

Agreed UMike. Good kicker, a QB who hasn't executed all night, and you don't try to stay in the game? Great, you gave the kid experience, it only cost any shot at winning, but that's what we've become I guess.
It was a bold choice to go with Kaaya, and I don't see how anyone could think it was the right choice after seeing that performance. Should have gone with Heaps if for no other reason than you save Kaaya the thumping in his first game.
As for Kaaya, he is probably like every other freshman QB. 3 turnovers, should have been 5, one or two good passes; locked onto one receiver over and over; held the ball too long; not enough data to evaluate him yet, but he isn't that wunderkind they told us he was just yet.

CaneRock

Seriously, is DUMASS! even aware of the last time we've had a TRUE FRESHMAN QB!, win in Blacksburg... Loud, cold, & possibly wet Blacksburg...LMAO!
