Should we send out a amber alert for 30CINCO

Ohio_Cane

He said 10 or so. I read that to mean if we struggle, Golden is done.

longtimecanefan

Good news...we're ranked 114th on offense...

bad news...there's only 122 teams....

longtimecanefan

As noted, D is ranked 94 out of 122....

Any chance we can still blame Shannon of Coker??

Cane Since 1982

so your telling me theres a chance

RCCF

is D'No Fired Yet?

Love to hear the OldCANES Sound Off...Especially the Defensive Players..

s/o to Shalala for as much good as you do you are really starting to look like a heel to these Football boys..

NO FOOTBALL is NOT more Important than education but COME ON this guys BFF is dragging our team to the mud..

All you people screaming the defense played well...........wait for it

THEY SHOULD HAVE THEY ARE JR'S AND SR'S.....after all this time if they don't get his fluff system (which Im sure they undstnd fully) AND they are Good/Great recruits...problem is even good and great kids can't cover for a poor scheme...Nothing is smart about having 3 down linemen repeatedly against 6 offensive linemen...Nothing is smart about taking a kid whose hand is built in dirt cover a WR who is light years faster and athletic...if it wasn't for the smarts of the kids saving their own pride....Im Sure EVERY part of DP52 wants to audible his boys to a 4-3 all game against the wishes of his coaches but guess what....he is a good kid and won't.. The Plus like I said is Kaaya doesn't have to do the StephenMorris sideline check and they didnt pat legs to start a play... Obviously an upgrade there...he is a FR. he is allowed his mistakes if anything I say upper classmen need to hold that guy down better...dont let your QB sit outside the huddle on the sideline sad at himself yes you all have been there before but your QB hasn't pick that kid up make him feel welcomed..

I'm hoping that once the talent level is where it should be, suddenly Al Golden becomes Butch Davis of 2000. And they are not that far off. I've said it all offseason...this team reminds me of the 1999 squad. It will be better than last year but have a worse record.

Yes, Butch beat Ohio State in the first game of 99. But that was with Kenny Kelly, who had two years sitting on the bench and backing up Covington and Clement. Put Dorsey in game one, and the result might have been the same as last night.

Also, Butch lost to East Carolina in 1999. I'm not sure how much worse last nights coaching effort was to that.

Finally, Miami does have more talent than everyone they play save FSU. VA Tech and Bebraska are the closest. So a lot of this is on coaching. But starting a true freshmen quarterback may negate a lot if that advantage.

CaneRock

It will be better than last year but have a worse record.

Posted by: TonyCane | September 02, 2014 at 03:56 PM

TonyCane, alluding to what UMike said, we have enough talent, not to have a worse record than last season. And let's face it, experienced QB or not, Al Golden does not have a track record of beating teams that He shouldn't. As it stands, unless He can turn it around, yesterday's comparison stands...Al Golden, =s Ron Zook...

LQ

Wheres art Kehoe ??

CaneRock

And if I'm the administration, to use Al Golden's words against em'..."If He's lookin', we're lookin'!" I hope they have a list of candidates should He get the wanderin' eye again...BUSINESS NEVER PERSONAL!

Go Canes

I agree 100% Tony.

The revisionist history regarding Butch on here is staggering.

j.w.

UMike, agree again. The issue isn't that we lost. It's that we don't even look like we're competing with any team that has a pulse. We get pummeled at home, dominated on the road, and the common denominator is we look lost in every game. When we hear all the quotes about how Kaaya is so mature, and how Crawford is a natural at S, and how the DB's and/or the OL will be strengths, you start to believe we've finally started to climb back to where we used to belong. The ACC still sucks, so there is hope, but I'm damned sick of getting killed against every good team we play.

Go Canes in the house!!!! Do you have any idea why Golden lost 5 of 7 games?

CaneRock

I'll tell ya' what's staggering, comparing Mr. ".520 Winning %age", to anything that has ever come through UM...that's staggering.

CaneRock

And Mr."We're Only Gonna Lose 1 Game The Rest Of The Season" still hasn't answered my question...when's the last time we've had a TRUE FRESHMAN QB win in Blacksburg...

SinisterCane

Mr. 520 love it

CaneRock

David Cutcliffe used 2 words to motivate His team last year..."THAT PLAY"!

But we used 2 words to CONFUSE the entire damn team..."STOCKDALE PARADOX"?! And we made a whole damn production out of it on Raising Canes.

Those inner-city Miami kids probably looked at Al Golden like He was crazy as hell. Stockdale Paradox...LMAO!

Canezitis

Gotta say go canes is right about comparisons to butch. We hated the show butch was giving us the first few years, until '99. Don't think I'm defending Al, he's been a joke on game days, but I thought the same thing about butch as well. Moving forward, Al has to make some tough decisions regarding his coaching staff if things don't improve like right now. I think the decision to start a true frosh in that kind of atmosphere was obviously the wrong call. Now you're stuck with him or you really kill his confidance. I think he'll be good, but I saw nothing last night that would tell me he should start over a 5th year senior. It's time that Al steps up or steps out. Period. Tired of waiting. Is 10 years not enough?

Go Canes

I'll easily answer both questions. We lost 5 or 7 because last year, by the end of the year, we were thin and not very good.

And this season we lost last night.

That's about accurate right?

And as far as a freshman winning at VT, I don't know and don't care.

I care about this season and this team. In my opinion we win last night with a QB with a few more games under his belt.

The real question is why some of you get so giddy ripping people who want to believe this team will improve this season and be ready for the heart of it's schedule comes around.

Do you so desperately want to be right that you have to call that person Dumbass or whatever the hell gives you validation?

I like interacting, agreeing and disagreeing with people with respect.

Some of you are incapable of that, which is something I will never understand.

So if you don't like what I post, ignore it.

Pretty simple.

J.w. I agree with you bro

Yes, Butch Davis -- who coached the team through significant scholarship reductions -- had some tough years. And people doubted.

Naturally, then, because people doubt Golden -- who has not been subjected to significant scholarship reductions -- Golden's situation is just like Davis's, and the doubters are fools.

Logic!

Go Cane great post.

RCCF

Im Really sick of seeing kids bite the bullet for the idiots we call coaches "we were prepared we just didnt execute" i.e. "we tell coach all the time this scheme is stupid, but they trust the scheme and each other and everything will work"....WELL DUMMIES they came to daU because they trust each other they know each other can play ball BUT if you put them in stupid positions you cheat them and the team as a whole and the fact that D'No NEVER has anything to say for himself should be all the more telling...I hate how Golden always deflects his conversation to offense and QB play etc etc...Everyone knew that would be our issue a young QB but to still be marginal at best on Defense and have the coach call it Elite is Maddening to say the least..

Should Miami replace Gus the so-called "the bus" by Trayone Gray...3rd and goal...

jsy

With the secondary we have why not constantly blitz the opponent and crowd the line and dare the other team to throw. Instead if rattling the opposing qb we sit in a prevent 8 man coverage and still have guys running over the middle free. The Louisville offense was not very good and it should have been held to single digits. At least were ranked in the 90 in defense and not 100s

No, Gus has no control over whether or not defensive players are hitting him at the handoff.

I don't remember a play where i saw Tracy Howard last night...5 star ???

Montreal-Cane

Yes, some people are getting impatient. (You don’t say?) Former Cane Allen Bailey tweeted: “Man, it has to be some major changes done.” And ESPN’s Jesse Palmer said: “The excuses are over. There’s a lot of talent on this team.”

I second that.

LQ

What's up with three Jersey kids ? AQM, Hester, and Olsen??

VA Cane

I think there is room for all to take credit for the loss; Coaches and players. It was a rough start, but even though there were many mistakes on many people parts, a few breaks, touch of luck, simple conversion or even a bounce and we are in it. I am disappointed, but 36 years of coaching tells me all had a hand in a badly baked cake. You have to learn from the errors and mistakes have a short memory regarding how bad you feel and get ready for the next Big Push cause you got another game coming.

I agree, and screw that "gettin' em' ready for the NFL" crap...get em' ready to WIN IN COLLEGE! Let the NFL, get em' ready for the NFL!

LQ

Tracey played last night. I saw AQM suited up just didn't get in the game. Artie was again getting beat up again by WR's. Last year it was the kicker. Gtfoh.. soft

WWIN

Okay...

Kaaya was into a bad game with that play calling! We should have threw a bomb to PD4 at least once on 1st down just for the threat of it, even if we overthrew him! All of Kaaya's passes were soft floaters, his best pass of the night was the one that was called back to Duke! He was never comfortable due to play calling and O-Line play. O-Line has sucked since Stoutland left, it was a reason why nobody wanted Kehoe after his first stint with us!! They are soft and weak, even thi they put up some helluva bench press numbers! I told Jordan Bridges, "here comes Gus into the game so you know that means a run up the middle"! I like how Coley brings in 4 WR in goal line situations as if he's going to trick the defense into thinking it's going to be a passing play! Lol

Defense benefited from dropped passes and bad play calling by Louisville. All you have to do is send a WR deep and send another one in the flat of that same side and it's wide open all day, also the middle was pretty much open all night! Don't get me wrong tho, defense was better than last year at times and was our best unit last night. The best player was Tyriq McCord, he was a beast coming off the edge!

AG better be worrying about his 2015 class, cuz parents are NOT feeling him, but I won't say names bcuz you never know who's reading this. The "Cloud" didn't affect recruiting last year his game day coaching did, Valentine seen the writing on the wall.

Face it folks, he's a snake oil salesman! Look at the lies he's told!

WWIN

TonyCane,

This is your new assignment, go back to when Golden was at Temple and see the talent he had there compared to the other teams in the conference and report back!!
