Game Day Blog: Miami vs Louisville

The moment you have all been waiting for have finally, and mercifully, arrived.

Talk is cheap and easy.

It is now time to walk the walk.

Time to put up or shut up.

The shorts and shirts give way to pads and helmets under the Labor Day lights.

Your Miami Hurricanes take the field tonight in Louisville to show UM fans and the entire Nation what the 2014 team will be made of and what they will be able to accomplish under head coach Al Golden.

Golden enters his fourth year as the lead dog in Coral Gables. It is time for his team to live up to it's bark and have some serious bite if they are going to be successful in the ACC this season.

A convincing win starts the season off on the right foot, satisfies the fans for at least one week and sets the stage for a potentially breakout season for the Hurricanes.

A loss, while not crippling, puts a damper on the Spring and Summer of hope and expectations derived from excellent recruiting, improved talent and depth on the roster.

Coaching, leadership, game planning and execution will be the key operative words of the day as Miami looks to extract some serious revenge (you can forget what the politically correct say) from the same Louisville team that spanked the Hurricanes badly in the bowl game at the end of last season.

Tonight on a national stage under the lights at Papa John's Stadium on Monday night your MIami Hurricanes will tell you if they are back all the way, half way there or not ready for prime time.

We can't wait to see the message they send.

AG isn't going anywhere. The administration has 3 requirements of the head football coach:
1) Do not embarrass the university (ie Shapiro)
2) Graduate Players
3) Go to bowl games

AG is doing what the university requires of him. He will not be fired.

Not even 400! Plus two turnovers and several sacks. They're coming along -- not as fast as one would like, but they're coming along.

But the offense continues to regress. And Kaaya did not strike me as being markedly worse tonight than Morris last season. Coley's playcalling is just bad. And sometimes, we couldn't evaluate the play call, because the offensive line executed so poorly, we couldn't even figure out what the play was intended to do.

Coaching stunk too. Horrible play calls and L's botched plays helped us stay in it for first-half. This was over after the 1/4.

D certainly not great but played well enough to win.

Special teams poor, especially the punter. Inexcusably bad kick off coverage.

Kayaa ok, with a performance about like one might reasonably expect.

Coley is an awful play caller. Manages to almost always get it wrong which is difficult. No feel whatsoever on when to run, pass short, pass long.

And the biggest problem --the O line. Grade at F. Horrible pass protection. Few run holes. The holes that were created were on the inexperienced right side. Hate to say it, but this supposed strength again is poor. May be time for Kehoe to retire.

What happened tonight is Not OK. I understand some people out there feel the need to protect Al from unreasonable criticism. But it's not unreasonable to say that this was not an acceptable outcome.

Louisville was exploitable. Not bad, by any means, but hardly playing perfect football. I can point to a couple times where the defense actually did exploit Louisville's weaknesses. Not nearly enough, but it DID happen.

But on offense, that Walford deep ball was the only play I can think of that effectively capitalized on what Louisville was doing.

I'm tired of being told that we need to wait until the recruiting has us on a par with a low-end NFL team before we can expect to keep these kinds of games CLOSE, much less win them.

Disgraceful. If Al has any sense of shame he'll admit that.

D played pretty well. Feel sorry for these kids, they are a poorly coached group. Can't put this on a freshman QB but he has looked very bad at times. Another long season ahead us. I'd keep D'No ahead of Coley.

Al's decision to start Kaaya now screams to me that he feels no heat from this administration. The boy is obviously not ready yet. I think he'll be good under a better OC in time but this was too much too soon for this young man. Heaps can't be THAT bad, right? Sorry to be negative, but I'm tired of watching this show- the ending sucks every time against good competition.
